Don’t let the name throw you off, this model, for all intents and purposes is modeled after the Kia Stinger GTS, the Korean automakers answer to the sport saloons from BMW, Audi and Mercedes.

This sporty yellow model has some amazing detail for a smaller casting. Opening doors, plastic headlights and accents on the grille makes for a great addition to any collector that is a bit tired of all that Japanese, German and American models.

When you take an already titanic Mercedes AMG G63 and make it a planet eater, this is what you get. A 900hp gravity defying behemoth that can hit 100kmph in 3.7 secs!

Most of us will never even get to see one if not for GT Spirit making this model as a limited edition model. It’s finished in the usual level of detail in the Brabus approved Stealth Grey with red accents and carbon fiber bits around. Personally we think the spoiler is extra, but hey, it’s a Brabus.

Racing Champions Mint Release 1 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 427

The Baldwin Motion Phrase III Super Stock Chevelle SS is part of the 6-car Legends of the Quarter Mile collection from Racing Champions. These big block monsters used to tear up the drag tracks and fuel passions both on and off the track. It was a collaboration between Baldwin Chevrolet and Motion Performance. The model comes in Tuxedo lack with gold SS stripes and period correct race graphics.

This car has bears the moniker of the owner of Motion Performance, Joel “Mr Motion” Rosen.

The 24 Hours of LeMons pits cars way pas their prime in a series of races that is a slap in the face to traditional and much more glorified races across the world, of course sans all the grandstanding and politicking. 993 GUNTHER WERKS

The only eye-catching headline this review needed is the name of the car. Of all the PORSCHE tuners in the world, GW is probably one of the most respected Bespoke Porsche Customizers. More reason to celebrate the fact that one of our favourite brands in 1/64 TARMAC WORKS get their hand on such a brilliant license to bring these beautifully designed treasures to everyone’s collection. And we can tell you right now it’s instant love and the following pages are why.

Unfortunately, we got so caught up with the excitement of this hitting our tables we completely forgot to take pictures of the packaging (Google baby) which was quite the production. The main box is similar to the last few TWOC (TARMAC WORKS OWNERS CLUB) boxes, a stylish fold-open box not made with plastic at all and inside the acrylic box within the usual TW sleeve.

The Gunther Werks branding on the box alone has us trashing the tradition of trashing the boxes, so the 993 sits in original packaging like a prima donna on the Tarmac Works display shelf.

AAs you can see by the photos, we have made every effort to capture the detail of what collectors are expecting from 1/64 models from every

angle and we still look at it from afar with loving eyes. Partially because we know that GW cars are limited editions like Tarmac Works. They make a certain number and that’s it. Coupled with TW’s limited editions it almost feels like the real thing.

After seeing Joe Rogan’s bespoke Gunther Werks 993, Timothy wondered if he would get lucky and his podcast would bring this beautiful 993 into his garage… legally.

Some of the things we like about this release are the paintwork. It looks rich and expensive and doesn’t feel or look like a single coat. Then the nice wide arches. Beautifully shaped and filled out with low profiles. Off late Tarmac Works has also upped the ante with their interiors getting a little more than the usual attention.

Yes, the models are sealed but a bit of color inside does go a long way to make the exterior ‘pop’. In this case, the dark orange shade of leather from the 1:1 car has been copied faithfully and reproduced and one of the first things you notice is the gorgeous symphony between the interior and exterior shades while they wildly contrast. Gunther Werk’s design isn’t loud, it drools classy.

Sadly, the beauty of this legendary brand is not solely in its design but also in the magic it makes under the hood which is something we shelf hoarders may never get to experience, but when you’re with your fellow car enthusiasts and the talk turns to tuned PORSCHE’s be sure to pull out this little Gunther from your pocket and lay it proudly for all to see… your very own Gunther 993.

THE OTHER RUF

RUF

Just to clear the air because there may be a bit of confusion but, RWB does NOT MEAN RUF WELT BEGRIFF. Rauf and RUF are two different PORSCHE TUNERS. RUF Automobile thankfully for us, cannot leave well enough alone and is another one of those groups of guys who throw a monkey wrench into an engine and outcomes songs sung by cupids. In this case, the song was originally sung in 1987 when RUF released what they thought the

911 of that time should be. Thus, the CTR Yellowbird was born (A brown TRABANT who has made a great Snufflapagus) Group C TURBO RUF – CTR painted in bright yellow.

30 years later in 2017, we get the REEEEEEEEEMIX! Based on the 964 this model embodies how a great and well-crafted tune can carry forward through the decades to come out back on top. It’s almost impossible to

compare tuners and customers even though some have tried but they all have their personal touch and taste which makes them exclusive that’s what you buy into. For me, RUF sits somewhere in between the posh Gunther Werks and the bonkers RaufWelt maybe next to Singer designs

All are not easy cars to get or own without a kidney transaction or trust fund.

What is affordable however is what MINI GT has got for you and it’s awesome. Pretty much everything you see on the model is on point and MINI GT has been working closely with RUF to make sure their anniversary Yellowbird comes out as beautiful as they intended it to be. This 1/64 scale model is not shy of details in any way right down to how the designers and

moulding guys have gotten the detail of the wheel rims this is the sort of detail that makes 1/64 scale photographers very happy.

Between all three entities MINI GT, the brand RUF and collectors it’s a complete win win win situation. RUF builds cars that are almost unattainable for the average human being, but they find a new revenue

stream and a way to keep the average human being excited about the brand. MINI GT Is on fire with their premium 1/64 scale models giving the old keepers of the gate TOMICA TLV a run for collectors’ money. And there are us the CastHeads and collectors of the world who just can’t resist a goddam good-looking PORSCHE in any size! FREEKING MINI GT take MORE OF MY MONEY!

Yes! The new 2022 911 GT3 RS has been dropped and it is mental. Extreme Weissach package with everything the old GT3 RS had but better and more…much more. But can we forget the old GT3 RS? No way and as the year’s pack on this car slowly rolls its way into being one of PORSCHE’s iconic cars. A car that 20 years from now will still look good and if you are lucky to own an actual car still run perfectly as well.

Because the thing with most German cars is ‘longevity’. Built to thrill for a long time and will always have the parts you need. Another brand that builds to thrill is MINICHAMPS and they have served the model car community for quite a while. They also have an excellent partnership with Tarmac Works and ever so often we get so much-needed action from the two brands. 3 911 GT3 RS colour variations for you to imbibe yourself on.

No complaints in any way, we have seen this car in all scales by various brands and as far as detailed 1/64 diecast models go this is done perfectly right like a fluffy omelette. (because food analogies are something we all know) Of the 3 colour variations launched we managed to get 2. The orange one pictured here and the black reverse version both of which boast great body paint jobs and a clear coat. Detailed wheels with the disc, orange roll cage inside, RECARO shaped seats, all of it a nice amount of detail at that scale.

It’s hard to find a Porsche fan that doesn’t like the old GT3 RS which is why it’s probably going to be a little hard to find these for sale either. Fortunately, the TARMACWORKS.com website has the black version in stock with international shipping. If you have managed to miss the few releases this model has had on other brands this is a perfect opportunity to get one of your own. The model that is.

MINI GT REVS UP MORE TURBOS

Get out of MINI GT’s way!!!!! They are churning out the cars in big numbers and all of them are looking mighty stunning is saying the least. This is the PORSCHE TURBO S 911 and honestly, MINI GT slayed it. Impeccable detailing combined with MINI GT’s reputation for doing stunning paint coats even on the simplest of colors comes yet another beautiful 1/64 scale model.

From the air intakes to the grilles, lights everything has been laid in carefully, with no excess paint or glue marks anywhere at all, even the alloy wheels are crafted and hollowed out to copy the exact design of the real thing. The mirrors are rubberized and come attached unlike TLVNs where some self-assembly is required and they seem pretty sturdily attached but I did notice that the rear spoiler didn’t seem like part of the body mold and used a little force to see if I was correct. I accidentally pulled the spoiler off. Not that it’s not easy to fix, BUT if you drop it, the spoiler can come off and get lost under some carpet lint.

The connection between motorsport and model car collecting is like a love song that is old as time. If cars inspire us, then motorsport is the fire that ignites our inspiration. For decades collectors will always have at least one piece that was driven in the sport maybe Fangio’s Ferrari or Walter Rorhl’s AUDI. Colin’s Subaru or even Nakai-San’s famed RWB. TARMAC WORKS favors the GT3 event cars and have gone from bringing some stunning 1/64 GT3 event cars to life to being named partner on the wings of a car.

This is the AMG GT3 EVO from racing GRUPPO. A Mercedespowered team that has won a lot of races and is quite successful in the IMSA circuit of events, DTM events and GT3 Events as well. Like most Mercedes teams their success is measured by their mechanical might and talented drivers. Seems like almost a nobrainer that a brand like TARMAC WORKS would be associated with such professionalism to succeed.

TARMAC WORKS has turned out this flawless GT3 AMG EVO that was raced during their sponsorship year, so you get an actual racing model with the brand as part of the livery. Also, as Juncadella rises to the ranks his success in the team will increase the value of the model, especially for fans of the team and the driver. Replication of this car and its details are so well put together it looks like being shown off with pictures of the real thing. It’s also great to see brands like TARMAC WORKS getting closely involved in motorsport where we can so more delectable collectables coming up.

Action movies are nothing without fast flashy cars. Ok, not entirely true I forgot the first two Die Hards didn’t have hero cars in them at all. Ok so then maybe most, in some cases more so than others. Opening these two 1.43 scale models from SOLIDO took me back in time to two screen classics. 1998 release RONIN which had an epic car chase involving some hardcore BMW driving and MIAMI VICE where MERCS roamed with FERRARI’s.

The 80s were filled with Mercedes on screen from the big to the silver. There were the darlings of the 80’s opulence and fashion when super rich villains were portrayed as rich it was always with a handful of mercs in tow. Didn’t help that it was the preferred brand to despots and drug lords alike. And MIAMI is where they partied driving around in bright front grille matching the body colors, wide body for more aggressive machismo power and big, deep, shiny AMG rimmed 500 SEC Widebody Mercedes.

Lovely casting, done by Solido with a lot of detail and a great choice of car which comes in two color variations red and black. Although, I like the red more because it looks striking with the matched front grille color and the deepness of the rims looking at an angle. Real OG this Mercedes.

BMWs of this nature zoomed around FRANCE in the Transporter, gave a Peugeot and run for its money in the movie RONIN and even had their online video series with Clive Owen in short stories driving BMWs from this era even, and let’s not forget Mr Bond. The development of the PORSCHE 935 K3 was the highlight of Manfred Kremer’s motorsport life. He and his brother started Kremer Racing and with Manfreds ability to be in tune with engines, Kremer-powered Porsches were super reliable. The 935 K3 proved this by not only winning LeMans but also dominating IMSA GT Championship and the GERMAN DRM series at the same time.

The is the car that led the KREMER team to victory at LeMans in 1979. Driven by Klaus Ludwig, Don Wittington and Bill Wittington comfortably beat Hollywood celebrity Paul Newman who came in second with a not-so-reliable Porsche 935 77A. The car in Klaus Ludwig’s hands was so dominant that together they won 11 of the 12 races entered.

SOLIDO’S race series of 1/18 scale cars are certainly hugely revving collectors’ LeMans collections. So far this year we have had a super helping of some lovely endurance PORSCHE with fantastic details at frankly some of the best prices on the board. After poring over pictures of the real thing for hours you come to appreciate the fine detailed work the SOLIDO team puts together.

Great detail on the outside from livery to welldetailed bodywork, lights, wheels everything including a well-detailed interior. As a collector myself I can attest to the fact that SOLIDO has got it going on and is making big bangs for your buck. Where possible the quality has certainly increased. For example, we don’t get to see any engine bits but with such a well-detailed interior and exterior at their prices building your LeMans collection is going to be freeking fun!

BMW M4 PERFORMANCE

Love it or hate it the BMW M4 Performance Parts has a massive grille which looks like the most flared nostrils you have seen in your entire life. Frightening yet engaging I can’t say whether I like it or not, but it is NOT the biggest grille BMW has put on their cars. GT Spirit is your entry-level collector brand on the high-end side with resin-sealed bodies. Doing justice to the actual model in terms of celebrating design lines and features.

BMW M3 GT

Stock trader Joe lived hard and fast in the 90s with Porsche and LOTUS being their flash cars, but more sensible-headed young bankers and hot-shot young lawyers drove Mercedes and BMW fast coupes. Some of these versions are faster than the Porsche and LOTUS with a smaller price tag. The E36 GT M3 is one of the rarer versions with only 356 cars built and that had a whopping engine that did 295Bhp in factory spec.

It’s amazing to see these two models side by side sharing the same M-Power DNA with over 25 years between them. Amazing in the sense that you feel the legacy the ‘M’ stands for. A performance brand that has every wannabe pasting an M badge on their BMW the minute they get it.

Some BMWs carry more ‘M’ accessories than the actual M-tuned cars. But do you feel the ‘M’ vibe right now?

The M4 looks stunning in the green metallic shade it’s been painted. The beauty of resin models is how easy it is to paint the bodies to get a rich look and color. Perfectly recreated body and painted sitting on nice M Sport wheels that look like they are barely 21 inches. Super detailed interior and I love the green highlighted seats inside, all details accounted for. The only sadness is the fact that it is sealed.

SOLIDO blowing it up with this British Racing Green painted E36, between this and their previously released (and reviewed) E36 Light Weight the modern classics collection shelf is starting to look fancy. Again, the close investigation into the actual model’s story reveals that British Racing Green was indeed the standard colour for the GT and all the M3 branding in the actual car was perfectly attended to by SOLIDO right down to the M3 gear knob. The only difference, on the images supplied by BMW the original GT car came with GOODYEAR Eagle tyres, but the SOLIDO model comes with Michelin tires.

WE HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF MOVIES AND PICTURES OF PORSCHE CARS RACING OFF INTO THE SUNSET…. SO I TOOK TWO OF OUR GT SPIRIT PORSCHES FOR A SUNDOWN SESSION. THE RESULT WAS PROOF THAT THE WELL-KNOWN FORMULA OF PORSCHE + SUNSET = BEAUTY EXISTS. IT’S MATHEMATICS PEOPLE.

This version of the 993 is known as the GT2 a turbocharged car made to compete in GT2 class racing. But the road-legal version was known as a GT wink* wink* with a completely mad engine that dropped 430Bhp in a heartbeat to the fat and wide rear wheels. This model from GT Spirit also comes with the RSR Aero Kit that has active air scoops built into the spoiler feeding directly into the engine.

While Porsche was making tsunamis at LeMans with the 935 on the street the Super Carrera was ruling the roost. 1979 was a year of big change in the world of cars. The leap from purely mechanical to technological assistance was about to happen. The Super Carrera RS is a great example of those last great cars.

I love the color GT Spirit has chosen for the 993. And I love how the color has carried through to the wheels as well. No doubt it made a fantastic model that highlights dusk falling on the city. A shard of bright blue like a silver lining. Makes for positive feelings and happiness.

This car is the amalgamation of many Porsche racing designs and mechanical concepts built into something as comfortable in front of the local farm shop as well as on the track. But for all its abbreviations and model names one thing is reliably sure, Porsche was built to race. The second reason why Porsche is almost godly is its design principles. To this day their car designs remain curvy and contoured, where light doesn’t bounce off the body but just goes with the flow.

Things that I love on the GT Spirit 1/18 model? First of all, love the 911SCRS sticker on the rear windshield, overlooking that mighty spoiler lid big enough for Sunday bar-be-que. So much white I’m tempted to slap a sticker of half-eaten fruit and call this my i911SCRS. This will look incredible in one of those all-white furniture offices (maybe we should call IKEA and design them a room).

The interior in this is cool with lots of great detail. Being a resin model unfortunately means the body is sealed and we can only peer through the looking glass getting a sense of the sparseness Porsche was going for to save weight and race. As a massive Porsche fan I am digging this car and its pedigree it fills a gap between generations.

Never thought I would be appreciative of the color Baby Blue, especially on a car, Tiffany blue would probably be where I draw the line but seeing the red interior inside this 993 for myself was one of the deciding factors for taking this beauty out and shooting it against the dusky city skyline.

It looks beautiful, with well-defined aftermarket parts, and has stunning rims a mix between the baby blue center and polished chrome rims. The wide wheel arch that just sucks up the fat rear tire looks pretty epic and as you can see on the next page, this 993 was built for the city.

RWB NICE & CLEAN

No strangers to the RWB brand GT Spirit has already dropped some really beautiful RWB models but if I’m being honest these two have fast become my two favorite releases. There are two versions of the RWB Akiba and with a lot of research, we know that the two RWB Akiba’s are the same. As for the speedster parked in the back, this is the first time I’m experiencing a chopped roof RWB and it is sexy. So, let’s go people we got RWBs to see.

RWB AKIBA is from the North American chapter specifically California and it is owned by the guy who owns his Anime brand ‘SHWA’. SHWA is a fashion accessory brand with quite a few anime licenses and that is the reason why the RWB is christened ‘AKIBA’. Like this, the car is in its original build. But more recently the owner changed the paintwork and added some manga onto the car. The Manga version was also released by GT Spirit for certain markets. One car two different paint jobs.

I adore the choice of color and the choice of GMR wheels the owner has chosen for his build and being a person who loves art on cars it is quite a step sideways for me to prefer the plain gray version. But again, GT Spirit does a stunning job on the paint and all the details. Just owning this is a work of art. Honestly just looking at it will explain all you need to know. The other cool thing is the wheels are slightly cambered outwards. RWBs are some of my favorite cars to shoot.

Meet ‘Yabai’ Kitchener Ontario’s first RWB and carries the plates from EAR2EAR chosen by the owner and his wife because of his reaction whenever he sees the car. Put together by Nakai San himself and the team of CHOP SHOP this car is just insanely cool and is represented in the name given to it ‘YABAI’ which according to Nakai San means ‘Savagely Cool’ If I had an RWB shrine at home, this would be the centerpiece and I now know what I want my RWB to look like.

The usual stunning attention to detail is something you need when handling a gem like this and I love when GT Spirit does open-top cars because you get the added pleasure of getting a better peek inside their highly detailed interiors. I’m also drooling over these gorgeous Rotiform wheels that look stunning stylish modern updates to the famous Fuchs.

The dark grey paint job sits well next to the lighter grey AKIBA having the two of them sitting together on my desk is just blowing my mind. All I can think of is, that this job is insanely awesome.

STICKING TO THE DETAILS OF THE BODYWORK AND OEM AERO KIT. IN FACT, ON A SCALE OF 1 -10, WE WOULD GIVE THE DETAILS BASED ON THINGS LIKE THE HEADLIGHTS, WHEEL RIMS AND BODYWORK A WELLDESERVED 9.5

The collection is inspired by Ferrari’s iconic 1970s Formula 1 race car. More specifically the 312 B2. Created by Scuderia Ferrari’s then-chief of engineering, Mauro Forghieri, it was aimed to try and reverse Ferrari’s fortunes following challenging seasons in the late1960s. The bold and cuttingedge lines of the 312 B2, were accompanied by one of the most evocative F1 soundtracks ever; produced from Ferrari’s own 515bhp flat-12 engine.
