EDITORS NOTES Almost half the year has gone, how’s your collection looking so far? First and above all wherever you are in the world we hope you and your family are safe. We are far from being close to the end of this pandemic so we might as well get used to the long social distancing haul. Ship ‘drifting’ seems to be the new nautical sport. Its where large ships try and cut through canals sideways, sometimes getting it wrong and ticking off the entire world so much, that now they can’t move without ponying up some serious cash all the while people’s models sit waiting to get home. However, the new releases keep coming and the diecast world keeps revolving quietly and successfully which is a great sign. Even we, will have some great news coming very soon. A short and sweet note this time, but keep your eyes peeled on social media, because we will have a lot to say in the coming weeks. Till then thank you for reading and ENJOY THE SHOW!!!!

Nigel

Finally got around to doing a more two-wheel focused magazine. I personally love diecast motorcycles and they don't get enough love from the diecast media side. So it was time to feature models from a variety of scales and price points. Most of the gripe from collectors is that they aren't the "proper" scale when it comes to displaying them alongside four wheeled models. Understandable, but at the same time, more and more makers of to-scale two wheelers are popping up all over Asia, where motorcycles and scooters are a big part of everyday life. 2021 is also the year that Vespa is celebrating their 75th anniversary. I really enjoyed sifting thought info on this iconic brand and showing off their history via scale models. We used only a limited number of brands, as they were very kind to share these models with us for this issue. Tell us what you think about diecast motorcycles. What would you like to see in upcoming issues with regards to our two wheeled counterparts. Forgive us if this issue is a little bit shorter than the usual, but we are furiously working on the June issue. There is a huge surprise behind it. Watch our pages to know what it is. Enjoy the issue and don't forget to subscribe, and hit all sorts of buttons on our social media pages.

2020 Land Rover Defender 90 The worldwide craze for the new Land Rover Defender models continue with the introduction of the Defender 90 model in to the Majorette Premium Cars lineup in 2021. We like the traditional white top, distinct green and white wheels in the model. Very very Land Rover. This would be one of the few basic models in the world that will have opening parts and be affordable. Majorette plans to ensure that these models are available globally to collectors and players with the roll-out of its new retail connections in Europe and Asia. Hot Wheels Basic

Mercedes Benz 500E Collectors went ballistic when the 500E was announced (leaked). The model was one of the most vaunted in the 90s. A true "sleeper" this 300E chassis was crammed with a 5L V8 with sports brakes and suspension, could barrel down the autobahn in style, safety and knowing Mercedes, in comfort. Hot Wheels has done an amazing number with the first release in glossy black, front and rear tampos and using the 5SPs. The silver metallic is on the way (or it may be already out) and we can't wait to see a few of this in premium versions. Scale 1:64 Status: Available

But that didn't stop the full production being snapped up in a day. While the real car was released in 2019, the Matchbox base states it as a 2018 model (that's a mystery we have yet to solve). The first casting came out in a dark metalflake gray, this is the 2021 matte black release. We can't ever have enough Bugattis, and as much as we like the new Bugs, we would like to see some of the older models making it into the line up. More Bugs for everybody! MAY 2021

THE STUNNING NISMO Majorette has seriously knocked this one so far out of the park the ball went into the atmosphere and hit a Shuttle on re-entry!

This is SHOGUN level of design on MAJORETTE’s part. Details are brilliant and to be honest we have said this before when this casting was first released in white with the same livery.

So what’s the difference? Well, someone in the design team (give her/him a medal) was tasked with taking this casting and making it a little special for this year’s limited edition special series. First, it got painted in this beautiful satin red, then the genius behind this great pairing a pairing as great as Micheal Jordon at the Bulls, they added BLACK FIVE SPOKE WHEELS!!!! This has to be a top contender for best 1/64 this year.

Everything is harmonious, right down to the NISMO add-ons. Majorette is seriously tuning us on these days.

300SL CASTING REMARKS

Graceful and beautiful it is by all means the quintessential contribution to motoring history and design from Mercedes Benz.

Faithfully reproduced into an amazing 1/64 creation of diecast artistry by Schuco. Schuco really do some of the best 1/6 collectibles with great details and finish. First of all the paint job and color are both beautiful and well chosen. A nice shade of sky blue highlighted by chrome bumpers and headlight holders. Even the hubcaps look stunning with the engraved logo and period chrome design. For Mercedes fans and collectors this is an absolutely must have because it ticks all the boxes of being a collectors item. And we have to say BRAVO on the choice of color.

FUN FACT: ‘SL’ In Mercedes terms means ‘Super-Leicht’ or Super Light reserved for their Grand Tourer sports models

CASTHEADS MAGAZINE

Hot Wheels has a good collection of racing livery licenses and certainly wields them well for collectors. This is the newest Falken to hit the scene and doing it on a TRUENO is genius. With the amount of FALKEN cars that Hot Wheels has done, it may be a great idea for the world’s greatest Hot Wheels track maker and race series 3DBotMaker on YouTube to create a great Falken series specifically for all the Falken.

For the JDM fan bois this has become the current holy grail just the pairing alone has the collectors clamoring to pay top dollar to get their hands on this.

It is a new casting for 2012 and has already made a appearance in the Boulevard series with the lights flipped open and nice low stance.

TINY CASTING REMARKS

in size but

HUGE on detail

Not really hits our criteria for being a diecast metal model but the molding on this car is absolutely brilliant. One big reason is the fact that its so small. 1/87 in scale but the details are absolutely spot on and shocking to say the least. The brand HERPA has been around for quite a while producing very high quality kids toys. But as you can see, their models are sitting squarely in the collectors realm and the 1/87 collector segment is definitely going to want to check out the latest offerings by HERPA.

The lights on both the front and the rear are plastic . The various body shapes used for air streaming are well pronounced on the car and even the grille has a textured feel and sits slightly indented giving the front grille depth and realism. We were completely surprised, pleasantly and now we know that we have missed out on some interesting HERPA models. So, to rectify this we are going to try and get our hands on a few more of these brilliant space saving, light, but heavy on the detail models.

C63 AMG COUPÉ BLACK SERIES

This is the Black Sheep of the Mercedes family, the unruly crazy one who’s loads of fun to be around.

From Tarmac Works Global64 line comes this gorgeous Mercedes C63 AMG dipped in Canary Yellow. It’s one of the finest looking sports coupe’s and is built to go complete mad fast. This is a new tooling for Tarmac Works and if you didn’t know this before, on the Global64 Models THE WHEELS ROLL!! And this rolls pretty well especially on our Dream Customs pads which have been brilliant for testing our rolling rides. It’s quite clear that Tarmac Works strategy is to provide a more hands on experience with the Global64 line making them more accessible with rolling wheels, storage box and re-usable clam shell packaging .

Tarmac Works continues unabated with their rise in releases of new castings and collaborations coming out from everywhere. This AMG is a great piece and honestly the premium quality you get for USD13 is a pretty darn good deal, although we do lament the current shipping costs globally with you.

BLACK SERIES DTM SAFETY CAR

Lead and control the pack. In an event of a track emergency thats the job of the safety car, and, more often than not it’s a Mercedes at the helm.

This is not the first safety car released by Tarmac Works and with their history for keeping to the motorsport theme we doubt it will be the last. We already have the F1 AMG GT3 and the MACAU GT SUPRA, with this addition we've got quite the safety car collection going.

Comparing the model with actual photographs leaves us very pleased to note that as usual the team behind the design have been thorough the research with a fine tooth comb to give us the beauty. But the real fantastic feature that trumps all... the price.

MERCEDES needs to have this model in every sales center around the world. I wasn’t too big of a G63 fan but when I saw this from Tarmac Works I immediately called my doctor and had a kidney assessed. This is a wicked looking machine and Tarmac Works knows it. Mesmerized by those big chunky tires attached to that bright lime green body that says to every one “Here I am and I came not to care” In reality this is one of the most luxurious jungle tamers money can buy if you are looking for that exquisite comfort in a hard environment. In my reality this beauty sits on my table as I dream about racing across the Sahara desert in this with the A/C on max, Desert Rose playing on the Spotify, eating an Almond Magnum.

Nelson Piquet, Mario Andretti, Niki Lauda, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Gilles Villeneuve are just a few of the names the ‘Keke Rosberg’ raced against in the 1982 Formula 1 Championship and won.

There is no doubt that Keke Rosberg though not as well known as some of his compatriots is a massive institution on motortsport. His son more recently a winner himself at F1. This had to come from somewhere.

Obviously F1 was not his only racing career. This is his DTM track car and he enjoyed a lot of success on track with AMG greats like this Mercedes EVO 190 E. Tarmac Works has done a commendable job on this piece which wasn’t easy considering the livery

When ones speaks about vintage touring motorcycles, one thinks of Harley Davidsons, BSAs, Ducatis and the immensely popular, and also much cheaper Japanese offerings Hondas and Kawasakis. BMW had been building motorcycles since 1923. And its R range of bikes since the beginning with the R32. The R69, R69S R69US was in production from about the 1950s to 1969.

The R69S, with its air-cooled 594cc opposed twin delivered roughly 42hp that propelled a rider to almost 175kmph, which at that time quite fast. Schuco released this model in Edition 1:10 and the level of detail is astounding. The metal work, coupled with wiring, plastic and rubber work is spot on. This single seat version is beautifully done in glossy black, and we hope one day

Hot Wheels doesn't stick to American iron or fantasy casting, they also roll out some real world models that are quite endearing. Like this Honda Monkey mini bike that appeared in 2016. With the post-war economic development in full swing, Vespa saw a resurgence for cheap modes of transport for most of Western Europe. Let the Good Times roll

DIECAST HIGHLIGHT

Forget that the GT stands for Grand Tourer, it should mean Good Times. That is exactly what the real world McLaren GT promises. It's supposed to be a different look at what a Grand Tourer should be to what most are now. The shape is McLaren's "everything-for-a-reason" design philosophy made tangible. The technology underpins and provides function to the form. Lightness and speed, ensconced in safety and comfort. McLaren truly does understands what a Grand Tourer should be.

DIECAST HIGHLIGHT CASTHEADS MAGAZINE

Longer, more spacious than its other model, the McLaren GT is purpose built for the owner to travel for longer, and not feel the distance or the journey be less enjoyable than the destination. But most of you enthusiasts by now have taken in all the information that the real world McLaren GT has thrown at you. Let's get on to this model from GT Spirit. Biggest gripe. It's a sealed model of something that would look out of this world if at least if one or two bits opened, but hey... Resin has its limitations. We understand that. So sigh...

Personally I like this GT more than the other McLaren models. Older or newer McLaren's aren't exactly my cup of coffee, but this and the Speed-tail are more to my liking. And the bronze makes it stand out even more. I know I am late in showing off this model, again needed to have an opportunity to really spend time with it, and get to know the model before I wrote my take on it. This model would be a good addition if you like supercars. It's a GT Spirit. It's a McLaren and it's nicely put together. And remember to enjoy your models, and share it with us on Club Castheads. Vintage American trucks fascinate me. In the manner that some of them are not the most prettiest around. That's till I saw this Chevy COE from Jada Toys. First thing. I have some deep love for white wall tires. They speak to me of a bygone era when beautiful autos glided across the road... More sedately and had a certain amount of "class". When I saw this particular model came with them, I had to add this to the Castheads Garage.

CASTED BY JADA CASTHEADS MAGAZINE

The model also came fitted with what I assume are drag racing slicks, making this a proper hot rod truck. The slicks have 5-spokes, with the rears being deep dish fats, while the beautiful white wall comes with convex hubcaps that just capture the light. The dual metal flake cherry red combined with gun metal grey with a white stripe makes this an awesomely stylish truck. Best paint combo IMHO for this model.

CASTED BY JADA While researching about the real world counterpart, I learnt COE meant Cab Over Engine. This is why I love this job, you get to learn something new every day. The rear bed has space for you to play with. Let it carry your home made cargo boxes, leave it on your desk so you can use it as either a key or phone holder so even other 1:24 bikes, people or animals... You can actually have some great fun with the model.

As most of the Jada Models in the Just Trucks range come with opening parts, this is no exception. Doors and the rear tail gate opens. The sound made when opening and closing the rear tailgate assures you that this is a solidly built model, just as the real world model would have been those long years ago. For it's price point, this truck is just dapper. It's decently built, the little plastic doesn't feel cheap and I actually think its a great reminder of classic Americana from the 1950s. Don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself and let me know what you think. -- Lance Muller

This is the second F40 to cross our paths from GT SPIRIT and there is no way they could have improved on perfection. But they did change the color and if you are a hardcore F40 fan like me you would do the most natural thing possible... buy the yellow to match the red and wait patiently for the black.

However in true Taylor Swift wisdom we must expect and wait for the cries of protest from people who belive that Ferrari’s should only be red. I wish Enzo Ferrari would be around today to tell those people exactly what he thought of them. At CastHeads Magazine we don’t color discriminate and if an F40 turns up at our doorstep in pink, we will welcome it into our home and it will find its place amongst the other F40s.

Breaking the myth first up: Red is NOT the official color for Ferrari cars. It is the official color of the racing team and was chosen so that the cars would stand out on TV. However with its humble beginnings in Modena the famous prancing horse logo adopts the color of Modena which happens to be yellow

Ferrari has never shied away from its cultural heritage and to this day neither have the people of Modena, Maranello and Fiorano shied away from their pride in Ferrari. Trawling through Instagram looking for cartists and diecastographers (a term for diecast photographers) to feature can be a daunting task. Since nowadays anybody with a phone is a photographer and many many collectors like to show off their models by taking nice photos.

When I was little, I observed cars in the street for a long time, asking myself why they were all different and trying to recognize them. By focusing on bodywork design, I learned to perceive the beauty of all cars, through their aesthetics, but also through their usefulness for their owners. I remember being marked by tuning in the early 2000s, especially with video games. I think of cars as works of art, and I like the idea of putting them together in a museum for comparisons and putting the most beautiful cars together.

By discovering the 1/18 scaled cars, I was able Then I landed on Jonathan to bring a small piece of that art home with me. Geoffroy's insta and knew that I had to feature some of his work. He doesn't have thousands of posts, or followers. But the quality outweighs the quantity. He hails from France and most of his models are 1:18s So I asked him to send his story and this is what he had to say.

I am a collector in my spirit, so in a short time my miniatures have multiplied. Passionate about technology and computers, I wanted to share my collection of miniatures with the public through Instagram where I created @jonmodelcars.

I am happy to have discovered a great community. I show every piece in my collection from all angles with the parts open, just like commercial shots. I also try to play with the perspectives to take pictures that make these toys look like they are life size. Thank you to everyone who supports this passion and continues to unbox their miniatures with children's eyes and happiness.
