For some it has been a really rough ride and we hope you guys bounce back, remember this is a community of millions around the world all there for each other.

We at CastHeads also believe that the entire world is equal and that’s that. We are ALL the same and we all have an equal right to live on this planet (except maybe... Hot Wheels scalpers. They can have an island to themselves and 1 Hot Wheels case will be air dropped per month in the center of the island). The only colors we see are the colors of models in all scales.

The last few months has brought out some nice creative collabs and discussions. I myself having the pleasure of talking with Scott Nadeau all the way across the globe from Live and Let Diecast and we hope to do it again. It has been an interesting start to the year. And to be honest I do not want to overplay the good times out of respect to those who have had hard times. Some have had to sell their entire collections to put food on the table and that still has not been enough. On the flip side we have heard of fellow collectors sending money to other collectors to help them make ends meet and that has been truly heartwarming, people from different countries bound by the hobby helping and being helped. If you are one of them reading this, I salute you and our team salutes you.

On that positive note we have strived to put together a whopper of a second anniversary issue and every single brand has been absolutely brilliant in making every effort to get stuff to us and show you some positively good vibes. Remember….

“The simplest gesture of kindness can fill a galaxy with hope.” – Bail Organa

Two years... It's been two years, of one of my life's greatest rides. As I sit writing this, I look back at the roller-coaster that has been Castheads Magazine. A germ of an idea that started out as two idiots getting together to design and make display shelves and Desktop Dioramas for 1:64 scaled models. Short lived as it may have been, it gave birth to what now hopefully is, in my mind at least, one of the best scaled model magazines on the planet.

The two years have been potpourri of emotions, tears, laughter, joy and many others that are too numerous to mention here. Castheads Magazine has been through a lot, and these past two years we have met some incandescent people who have seen potential in our little publication that could. They gave us the models, shared information and assisted us to grow to where we are now. And there is no direction except up for us in the proceeding years. We want to thank the readers, the brand managers and brand owners, the photographers, the diorama makers, the little diecast makers, the big corporations, the toy makers, the big kids who never grew up and most of all, the fans that spend a little of their lives leafing through our magazine. We do it for ourselves as well as you, but most of all, for you. Thank you for the love.

While you are reading this magazine, we are going to pop a bottle of bubbly, and pour one out for all of you that have made this an outstandingly incredible journey.

LAMBORGHINI LAMBORGHINI HURACAN EVO ARANCIO BOREALIS 1:64 SCALE BY MINI GT

CASTING REMARKS

I wonder if the old school brands are starting to feel the pressure. mini gt has come such a long way so fast it is incredible. As good but cheaper than Kyosho, it would take a lot of convincing for me too choose a TOMICA Premium over MINI GT This has been a question that has been mulling in my mind for a while. And it comes at a time when TOMICA is forced to increase prices due to production costs going up. And here I am looking at MINI GT’s new Huracan (pronounced oo-racahn) Evo in one hand and Kyosho’s white Ferrari F50 (pronounced eff-fiftee) in the other and I’m thinking TOMICA Premium is going get edged out of this segment especially with European Exotics. They better hope and pray MINI GT doesn’t go full JDM. Diving into the actual model we’ll start with the paint. These guys take their paint really seriously and one of the things that connects the scale model to the real thing is

the paint, actual car paint. Arancio Borealis is an actual pearl finish that comes for the actual car. And it makes all the difference in the finish of the scale model as well. Take any lesser priced car and the paint always looks like it has been applied, the newer MINI GT’s look like the metal IS that color. That is the best way I can describe it, the way the paint wraps around the body like a liquid melding onto metal. Wheels spin, treaded low profiles wrapped around the fancy lambo wheels that spin. The wheels didn’t have any abnormalities or deformities which is an exceptionally good sign, if care was taken with something as small as the wheels. Both the

headlights and the rear lights are plastic which is something some TOMICA premiums don’t have. However, the MINI GT doesn’t have opening parts, which would be a little disappointing to some diecast photographers. Pitching a quick direct comparison or two. The Lamborghini Huracan EVO by MINI GT has serious appeal, no doubt. Even the little details like painting the exhaust tips won’t go unnoticed and unappreciated because this makes for a great piece in the collection guaranteed. And usually I’m not for variations but like MINI GT’s R35 which I am a total sucker for, this would be my undoing if they do release this in other colours.

LAMBORGHINI LAMBORGHINI HURACAN GT ROSSO MARS 1:64 SCALE BY MINI GT

At the rate we keep getting LBW and RWB’s the next world war might get ignited by fans of the tuner cars because their repertoire keeps growing as fast as their fan base and soon the world will be divided by the two. Which is kind of ironic with this model that is painted in the same paint and finish as the real car which is why it’s named specifically after the paint code ROSSO MARS. Now one can surmise the Rosso Mars would be referring to the ‘Red Planet’ however, it could also refer to Ares (Mars) the Roman God of War and Rosso referring to Vengeance or Vendetta. The God of War’s Vendetta? Has a nice ring to it. But the LBWK mods do make the Huracan look worthy of battle. This particular body kit is from the Silhouette series and as usual MINI GT has been consistent with their quality, so the casting is

fantastic as well as intricate which is further highlighted by their mad paint detail which the by the way, is from the Metallic Range of finishes.

Decals and badges are clear and sharp, the exhaust tips are painted blue and even the plastic bits have been nicely molded along with the mesh textures. Again, another winner amongst the competition in the same price range. After talking up the EVO there’s hardly more we could say about this because honestly the quality and attention to detail as well as all the features are consistent and similar.

There is no doubt that you are about to embark on a long and perilous journey into the world of MINI GT. Doing things this well is no doubt a temptation to collectors who like things well done. It looks like a completely new case will be required for MINI GT and the future it holds. Already this casting is slated for two more colour variation releases. One will be the collaboration car between Tarmac Works which will come in a Magic Green that changes shades and hues of blue and green. The other will be in brilliant white. Lovers of variations, this will be your waterloo.

CASTING REMARKS

Has this car been mis-represented and named wrong? I did my research and uncovered something really odd about the hot little Alfa GTA from Hotwheels that turned up in the Door Slammers Car Culture Set. So, on the card the name of the car is the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA and, when I did a search online, I did find a similarly painted real Alfa with the same model name. The colours were the same in fact only the race numbers were different and curiously enough the body shape, which didn’t strike me as odd when I first saw it until I discovered the GTAm. Now the GTAm cars are different in horsepower and weight with some of them clocking over 200hp and given the size and weight of the car we are talking serious power to weight ratio’s here and that squat chassis layout makes for

23

great centre of gravity. Lighter and faster, most of them were painted in the same duo colour livery and the rear has slightly wider wheel arches at the back, fatter wheels and lowered stance.

Now this model from Hot Wheels has all the hallmarks of being a GTAm except of course the lowered stance. Not that it makes much of a difference because the casting is nice and solid, it actually has a nice solid weight to it running on real riders which rolls nicely along our Dream Customs city street mouse pad. With a good wheel swap, they would make serious contenders on the DRC. (Diecast rally Championships by 3DBotMaker) Hot Wheels in total has 4 variations for this casting and all four of them look nice in their own way. One of those rare times owning all variations can be fun and make a worthy collection.

MAJORETTE ALFA ROMEO GUILIA 1:64

As good-looking sports sedans go this for me is a no-brainer. It is an extremely handsome machine which has been brought down to 1:64 in exquisite fashion and so far, all the different models we’ve seen, look stunner. The Majorette version just looks like it means business with those smoked out headlights. This is the new gangster getaway car! Even the way the light moves over the scale model’s curves looks sinister. The front grille is shaped and indented with the grille set inside topped by the Alfa Romeo badge, for a mainliner it is incredibly detailed.

Majorette does a lot of great castings, but this is in the top 10 castings for 2020 for me.

The rear has sharp tampo’s, rear lights and badges continuing with the great detail for a mainline car. The addition of opening doors is also a great thing that give this car a fun approach to photography with some nice opportunities for diorama builders / photographers. I also like the wheels Majorette has chosen for this model. Like a

set of chainsaw blades that add to the whole gangster demure of the car giving it an added ‘don’t mess with me’ look when rolling. Majorette does a lot of great castings, but this is in the top 10 castings for 2020 for me. The deep wine red gloss finish, indented grille, everything comes together like a nice little package.

When this landed on a desk at the office I wondered long and hard as to how I’m going to do this. So far, we have reviewed, Italian exotics, American Muscle, German Ingenuity and innovation and of course high-flying queens of the JDM scene. So, this one was going to be a break from the normal or as they say nowadays… ‘The New Normal’ The good news is, the Renault Twingo does have bragging rights that beat the pants off its two-door hyper and sporting cousins. And that is 2.6 million cars sold up to the release of the second generation Twingo that came with a burp of a little more power. I will decline on commenting about the overall looks of the Twingo but I can tell you it looks nothing like a Megane. The Renault Twingo from SOLIDO is not spectacular in any way but it certainly has character infused into its design.

With a quirky name and quirky looks the Twingo became a favourite of the younger generation that just wanted a car to move around in which added to its youthful mannerism. The model by SOLIDO is great tribute to the car and a shout out to the generation that made it so popular. Unfortunately, and surprisingly by SOLIDO the only opening parts are the doors. The actual car itself is quite basic so unfortunately there isn’t much to write. Except there are a few things that are cute to say the least. What was supposed to be a fun little city car not expected to be anything other than that turned out to be one of the biggest icons in motoring history with a really nice and long production run. This is an awesome groovy little model and I’m so so glad it was sent to us because up close in person this looks really cool. First of all, it’s the MINI COOPER version which is a tuned version from the famous tuning house COOPER WORKS. So, you can expect aggressive flared wheel arches, rally headlamps, MINI COOPER badging, the famous (magnesium-esque) Cooper styled wide rims, duo-tone paint with metallic British racing green, white body trim and racing stripes, low profile racing tires and the sporty roof radio antenna. For a MINI fan this is a delightful piece and honestly its hard to imagine a MINI owner not wanting to get his hands on one of these. And, even though the scale is 1/18 because it’s a MINI, it’s a nice size have on the desk or bookshelf. Unfortunately, the only opening parts are the doors that reveal the typical sparseness expected from a MINI but the interior sticks with the sporty décor by having a sport steering wheel and sports seats trimmed in white.

SCHUCO

1:87 MINI If the 1:18 scale is still too aggressive in cost and size then you can settle down for the same thing in 1:87 scale from Schuco which is even cuter. It is quite heavy for a tiny model but it as all the features of the bigger scale with opening doors.

Finally, we have another French modern classic that is almost as famous and iconic as the MINI Cooper. But unlike the MINI the 205 didn’t build its popularity on the backs of celebrities and influencer's of its time. No. The 205 Gti built its iconic status in the mud and bogs of European Rallies with broken shafts, shattered gear boxes and stiff competition from man, nature and machine. And it was quite the spring chicken with two engine version on a 1.6 Ltr the other a 1.9, propelling this

car well over 200 Bhp and along with the lack of weight this could hit 60 Kmph in 3.6 Secs. AND at the end of its production run the GTi had sold 5.2 million cars. This one by SOLIDO is the 1.9 Litre version and one can tell by the 1.9 GTi badging on the rear fenders which means this is one of the coolest cars that Peugeot has ever built. The gloss dark grey colour is one of the more original well-known ones along with the famous GTi pinstripe that goes right around the car. It also comes with the yellow fog lamps, hood mounted radio antenna for that sporty look and of finally the lap of luxury A REAR WINDSCREEN WIPER!!!! You cheeky Frenchmen. The interior is bright red and grey. I don’t why the entire floorboard is stickered red the GTi did have a red interior, but this is like sitting on a Hollywood Premier entrance. And back to reality, no ones going to really sit in there, so I don’t know why I complain. The rest of the red trim on the seats and the door side panels are cool and give the dull dreary bare bones interior a bit of sporty fun. And when I say barebones, I mean barebones not like cars of today that have a fancy cover or cowling for everything. Forget about a centre console you just have your handbrake on the floorboard in front of which a thin sticky gear leaver sticking out of the ground. The dashboard is not to bad on the detail front. I can make out ac vents, temperature controls, factory fitted radio and driver cluster.

It’s not a Ferrari or a Maserati certainly not a Shelby Mustang or a Dodge Viper, it’s not a Japanese pocket rocket it’s a famous little French car with lots of Sacre’ Bleu!

How did the mighty TRUENO cross and stitch together car culture, manga culture, drift and race culture, tuning culture, animation culture and the love for JDM cars? With a little TOFU. I Seriously doubt the creators of the comic series Initial D had any idea of the sort of cult following they would create not just for the cartoon but for the actual cars themselves. Never has the Toyota Trueno or the Mazda RX-7 been chased after so fervently in any scale.

In this issue’s Casted by JADA we look at the new 1/24 scale Toyota Trueno AE86 that was dropped by JADA Toys recently and we have nothing but positives to say about it. Included in the box with the car is also a diecast figure of Takumi Fujiwara and its little thing like this that propels JADA Toys into proper collector market with products meant or better suited for display purposes.

TRUENO AE86 SCALE 1:24

CASTED BY

Unfortunately, and this is really not a concern on my part but I do believe that some my find that the pop up lights being up permanently is a bit of a deal breaker and would have liked to have some switch to have it retracted. But the rest of the car opens and closes awesomely, and there is so much room at the back Takumi was able to shove an entire spiderman figurine in. For the car culture hobbyist this is really cool option to have. We totally buy into and the inclusion of the Takumi figurine means that diecast photographers can have some fun. But more importantly we need to give JADA a big shout for the massive effort that goes to bringing the legends alive.

Not as sparse as one would expect. In fact, better detailing than usual. I always do like a coloured tachometer and instrument panel. It shows that effort has gone in to make this as real as possible.

Under the hood it looks like the car has got a lot of figurative horses in it’s badass chrome pained engine. Not the most detailed but again but most definitely a grand effort to make this car as interesting as it is.

PORSCHE SERIES 2020’s MOST TALKED ABOUT PORSCHE COLLECTION IN 1/64

Ever since the 2020 Toy Fair which was one of the last big events we got to witness before we got knocked back with the pandemic, we have been waiting for the release of Majorette’s Porsche line. We got a glimpse of the line-up followed by the Toy Fair 2020 presentation model which got everyone super excited. There was no doubt from the pictures we saw that Majorette had cottoned on to something big. To be fair the Porsche 939 and the 911 GT3 have been around since last year and this year we see the inclusion of the Carrera S and Targa models. But this year instead of a few sparse models here and there we are looking at a complete set of cars in varied colours, liveries and models. There is even an exclusive set with a couple of cars that won’t be distributed as singles. Honestly it was exciting doing the shoot with the Porsche’s so many great cars in great colours that its hard not to buy the entire collection. And there are some really iconic pieces. Majorettes license agreement with Porsche is being spent well and we are hoping this is a trend that will continue into the next few years because the lord knows how many Porsche models there are in the world. So over the next few pages join us as we flip through Majorettes new repertoire of Porsche.

911 CARRERA S We first took stock of this casting at the Toy Fair 2020 held in Germany earlier this year and got really excited at the prospect of these coming in. Out of the CARRERAs this is the nicest by far. Gloss black with a red racing stripe right down the middle with the letters PORSCHE on the hood in the red stripe is a gorgeous touch. Classy in its simplicity. Just above the side skirts is the famous CARRERA S in black on a red stripe. The badges both in front and at the back are well sharp and the body cast is fine.

The doors open and if you have tiny 1/64 scale luggage you can put it in the front boot because that’s an opening part as well.

You’ll find this and the Orange colour variation in the deluxe series which also incidentally adds rubber wheels into the mix making these Porsche’s quite the value for money. When you see these on the pegs you will definitely appreciate the way Majorette is stepping up their game and diving into the scene with a nuclear submarine.

Really digging the burnt orange paint on this Carrera. If you were lucky enough to get your hands on the Toy Fair version add these two and you’ll have a really nice set.

911 CARRERA S(urf) Hold on to your sun block cause we are hitting the beach and we are taking the Porsche. Complete with hood rack and surfboard this 911 is ready for the summer. We love the add-ons the Majorette likes to put in with their models simply because it adds a little more character and flavour to the daydream. There is no way you bought that street print mouse pad and not run some of your cars over.

Having wanted a bicycle rack Steve wondered whether the guy at the dealership knew what he was talking about or whether he knew anything at all.

I have to say this model is very inspiring and I wonder if the wonderful world of customizers will give this model a bit of extra magic. Maybe a custom surfboard or maybe a Peace Vibe beach theme paint job. Could Majorette put more fun into the hobby with these little additions. I certainly hope they’ll keep it coming.

718 BOXTER What’s the point of having a convertible if you can’t take the hood down? This has to be one of the questions fired through the Majorette design team. And they delivered. The TARGA version of the new BOXSTER 718. We have the usual accolades, great attention to detail on the body work, gold bladed wheels (best way to describe them) painted in a handsome sky blue much like our Carrera S(urf) but the gimmick on this is the removable roof. Once the roof is off the car is much faster due to the reduction of weight. Not really, but it is a cool look for the car. Another thing noticed is the effort to make the side mirrors look more like side mirrors as opposed to the metal stubs you usually find.

After the surfboard / bicycle rack fiasco Steve decided to let his hair down and cruise around with the roof up. He had just done his hair.

911 911 GT3 RS Truffle Hunter. It’s beginnings is a strange story but even stranger is how this livery caught on and became iconic in its own right with several iterations manifesting itself over the decades. The story goes, in 1971 Porsche was putting forward a car that was the Frankenstein result of marring the best features of two versions of the 917. The result was a car so hideous looking sponsors Martini & Rossi were like “uh uhh, we are not having our branding on that car”. Instead they tell Porsche designer Anatole Lapine to have at it and the result is a pink car highlighted by cut marks similar to what a butcher uses to carve up the ol’ piggy. The inspiration coming from the resulting design of the new car which due to various reasons ended up looking like a pig. Since then over the decades the livery has appeared several times on track, on a RWB, a privately-owned Porsche and in 2020, on the body of a Majorette 911 GT3 RS.

Other names for this livery include ‘The trufflehunter of Zuffenhausen’ and ironically enough Big Bertha the same name of our video production head.

911 911 GT3 RS Weissach Package Though it isn’t mentioned anywhere this beautiful 911 GT3 in black and yellow is known as the Weissach Package. Weissach is actually the name of a place in Germany where the Research Centre for Porsche resides. A place created to make fast cars go faster. One of the primary objectives is weight loss. Much higher performance in a much lighter car. One of the visible changes in the GT3 after going through the Weissach conversion is the black hood and roof representative of them being replaced with Carbon Fiber. This model can be found in the exclusive 5 pack released with the new Majorette Porsche range and as you can see has the black hood and roof on racing yellow looking exactly like Weissach Package GT3. It’s also one of the most striking colour combinations the casting of the GT3 is well done and we see that the quality is carried through all the versions of the GT3 available. This year it’s been the purple one, the Weissach, the truffle Hunter, and the Colour Shifter.

Float like a butterfly sting like a bee is the best way to describe a Weissach powered GT3.

Brumos 934 Majorette continues keeping famous Porsche history alive with a few nods here and there to some important names in Porsches racing lineage. Last year they had the famous Valiant Porsche from Kremer Racing and this year Majorette drops the 934 in the famous Brumos livery. Brumos Racing hails from the USA started in 1953 by a racing enthusiast known as Hubert Brundage. Unfortunately, the brand over the course of 50 years exchanged hands many times and Brumos finally shut its doors in 2016. This 934 Brumos is a great piece with iconic livery and its nice to see Majorette keeping some important names and memories alive. Brumos and Porsche have shared a rich history together and its nice to be reminded of that once in a while. This model is superb.

911 CARRERA S In Germany when you dial 911 this is what turns up. Service vehicles are a huge subject for some collectors and Majorette hits the nail on the head with the Carrera Police car. We’ve already talked about how awesome the 911 casting from Majorette and this certainly carries that brilliance forward. To be honest the police livery suits the Carrera S and makes a great addition to the 911 collection.

Built for speed this 911 is the new enemy of the Autobahn racers.

This brings a close to the 911 selection for 2020 from Majorette but at the rate these guys are going we are sure 2021 is going to bring some more awesome Porsche and we are already excited.

PANA MERA Whoop whoop its’ the sound of the police, whoop whoop it’s the sound of the beast! The beast being the Porsche Panamera Turbo, Talk about getting carted off to jail in the lap of luxury. The Panamera does the POLICE black and silver look and its suits the shape of the car making a nice piece for the service car collection.

Think of all the dough-nuts one could get into a Panamera

At the back there is a tow hook which is kind of cool because that means you can hitch up any trailer made by Majorette to the Panamera if you like. Altogether it’s a fantastic range of cars and Majorette has done a fantastic job of making some exciting Porsches for us to get our hands on.

The 80s was a loud decade. The excess was all around, everywhere you looked. From the big hair, big shoulder pads, and of course big spending. The cars got louder too, from how they sounded to how they looked. It was also the decade that gave a kick up to those who would take a street beast and make it a megazoid. Business was booming in Germany in the late 70s and 80s... Cars were getting built, people were moving, it was a good time to be alive. It also saw the rise of tuning houses like Gemballa, Brabus, and Koenig. People like Uwe Gemballa and Bodo Buschmann brought beef and brawn to Porsche and Mercedes (respectively) it was Willy König that took it a notch higher with models that was a tad different. The BMW 850i was already a bonkers car. It was introduced in 1990 and was unlike anything that they had put out, a brand new line that featured a model with higher specs and looked like the beautiful progeny of a GT coupé that had an illicit but torrid affair with a Ferrari. Boasting a 6.0l V12, it has the power and the curves to make it a truly beautiful car. König, aka Koenig decided this rolling work of art wasn't good enough. It needed an extreme makeover, Deutsch-style. First was putting some sass on that body. Skirts on the front and sides and a three-part wing, with the two side dams molded to the body kit and main part bolted on to the boot lid.

They might appear as one. They rolled on the 3-part 5-spoke rims (eerily reminiscent of those seen on some famous Fezzas) in chrome. BMW badging replaced with KS and Koenig Specials front and rear to let anybody know that this was more than a BMW 850i. If you think he limited this to just cosmetic changes, boy you are so wrong. Suspension upgrades, engine body and transmission/ exhaust tweaks pushed this car upwards to 450hp and a 300kmph supercar territory. Why not, many of us will only get to see the real version on the internets... So lets talk about the version many of you (well 997 of you) may be able to get your hands on. GT Spirit took the same path Willy did, they took his model, shrunk it down and made a truly spectacular version in 1:18 scale. The paintwork is superb and the details are, well, outstanding. The only gripe we have is, we couAld have done without the KS8 decals on the rear bootlid. It looks too big and out of place on an otherwise sweet as Jawbreakers models. But given to rate this out of 10.. . Its a solid 9.9!

This is the Ferrari Bburago that shuts down the critics. Too many times we’ve seen complaints about Bburago’s quality and lack of new Ferrari Models. Now is the time to put your money where it needs to be and we expect this model to be a sell out. You wanted new, you wanted one eighteen scale, you wanted details and, you want it at a great price...here you go.

When I first saw the MONZA SP1 reveal on the Ferrari channel my mind had already set about planning on how to get this when it would be made into a diecast model. I still don’t have a model of my favorite FERRARI which is the F40 but that could wait I really wanted to get my hands on an SP1. Finally news broke that Bburago was going to make one and based on the fantastic experience I had with the FXXK EVO by them I was confident this was going to be awesome and I was hoping would come soon because I knew this would there vindicating model for the year. They had the DIVO, the FXXK EVO and now both the FERRARI MONZA and Lamborghini SIAN (which we also have and will be in full review next issue). We inquired of them about the MONZA and they sent us one. I refrain on telling you what I did when I found out.

STOP!!!!! Take it in, if this doesn’t take your breath away, we’ll do another shoot. We thought the colors of FERRARI and Maranello would make a great drop back for a car that is just beautiful to look at, to be honest nothing in the world would get a second glance next to this car. FERRARI set out to build something captivating and they freaking did it, like they have some sort of secret recipe book somewhere that requires unicorn meat to feed the engine of their creation.

I’m glad my first experience of this in scale model format is at 1:18 simply because as a real car without any sort of windscreen, limited storage and single driver configuration curiosity is heightened and with a larger scale you can really appreciate the design cues. For example, this is a wind screenless car that goes extremely fast very quickly, however the front design of the car diverts air away from the driver and passenger in some magical engineering sort of way.

The car is painted in the same standard colors as the 1:1 which is a gloss finished gun metal grey with a yellow racing stripe across the bonnet. The only other yellow highlight is the roll over guard behind the driver with the model name on it, of course the way it’s done is just James Bond classy. From every angle of this car you can see it has been designed to make maximum use of wind and aerodynamics to achieve both high performance as well as incredible mounts of stopping power again, easily seen and appreciated on a larger scale.

Open hoodless car means open interior. Super detailed considering the price points. If you look closely you would see carbon fiber detailing, steering wheel details complete with launch control and track setting buttons. The dash board, the really tiny one is a little graphic and the seat has been done in brown to mimic the leather in the actual Ferrari.

Beauty

THE

of

Monza

Towards the front of the car under the hood you’ll see more, and extensive body work done in carbon Fibre this body construction is part of being a special line of cars that are being actually produced by Ferrari. The line is called ICONA where design cues for the new cars are taken from old cars creating a hybrid of beauty and mechanical symphony. The SP1 and the SP2 exploit design cues from the 250 Testarossa, the 750 Monza and the 166 MM and the outcome has been salivating.

You also get a clear look the engine bay and will be treated to FERRARI’s V12 with the bright red engine cover and FERRARI branding in Silver. If you look closely you can also see that the engine cover is supported open by two hydraulic stands that support the hinges in keeping the bonnet open. BBurago 1:18 scale cars have always strived to be completely open-able, and this one certainly deserves to do so. What is very encouraging was that both myself and another friend didn’t believe the whole car was openable because the were no noticeable gaps as evidence to opening parts in fact the car look more or less sealed. So, when I did gather the courage to apply a little force in hope I was rewarded with the complete works and my initial disappointment was washed over by drunken joy. I may have cried a bit as well. There is no shame in being emotional. You still buy Hot Wheels.

In finale I would like to point out that as many as there are people who will love this there are those who will find many negative things to point out which is fair but always remember this is not in the astronomical price range like BBR or Amalgam (who I’m sure will release their version which will be flawlessly perfect but will cost a ticket to space) or even CMC. In fact this wouldn’t even touch a 100 US dollars unless you are buying it off the Japanese eBay in which case the actual car might be cheaper.

FERRARI 308 GT The

Have you heard the name Giuliano Michelotto and the connection he has to the ancient town of Padova in Italy? What has that got to do with the Ferrari 308 GTB Gr. 4? And did Magnum know at the time that his car model was once a mean rally machine?

Fortunately, we can answer two questions and none of the answers has anything to do with Magnum. Guiliano Michelotto on the other hand was a guy who started a secret workshop in Padova Italy and turned the brand Michelotto into the Skunk Works for Ferrari. They started in 1969 and still modify Ferrari’s for racing purposes to this day. Now, you may ask why Ferrari needed an AMG type outfit to work on modifying Ferrari’s for racing when they were already known to be motorsport

stalwarts, but the answer is simple. When Ferrari abandoned all other sports to concentrate of F1 (which they haven’t been doing a good job for the last 8 years) it left a vacuum for Ferrari drivers to compete in.

Pregliasco thought a quick nip down to the shop in daddy’s Ferrari might be ok until he encountered a muddy pass.

So, in a secret workshop in Padova the Michelotto team with Maranello’s blessing, support, technicians and chassis they built 11 rally 308 GTB’s over a period of 10 years from the ground up. The Michelotto workshop is so secretive there is no advertising

because are built to order and they do not believe on wasting resources on adverting. There are no official photographs of the workshop even on the odd chance a motorsport journalist gets invited. And their current website just has a contact number and address. They did however like the 308 GTB and created 11 monsters that partook and won quite a few rallies before they were all banned in 1986 and the Group 4 was replaced by the now Group B making way for a new breed of rally cars to come in. This is not the first Ferrari RALLY GTB to be dropped by OTTO Mobile and we sincerely hope it won’t be the last. The details are perfect and right on the money and by far this is a fantastic model to have especially now that you know its vivid background. The communications antenna that sits on the roof comes separate in the box so keep your eyes out for it.

The interior details are as brilliant as the exterior its just such a shame about this being a sealed model

RENAULT 5 TURBO MOTORSPORT FEATURE

This, is the ELF sponsored Renault 5 turbo of Walter Röhrl one of the most successful and long time driver from the rally circuit. He is a man that has driven almost every car in the group class as well as raced alongside many of the other rally greats such Michele Mouton.

1:18 SCALE BY SOLIDO

The Renault 5 Turbo came out strong during its famous rally days and to be quite honest was really really successful in the hands of a driver called Jean Ragnotti who racked up many rally victories in this harsh little hot hatch. In 2004 Sports Car international listed it Number 9 in its list of Top Sports Cars of the 1980s. This was at one time the most powerful French production car. A lot of accolades for the little hatch.

This model by SOLIDO is excellent. Looking at it I can feel the resplendent rally history the car exudes reminding me of the 80s when I would sit as a child, watching cars like this being flung around dirt tracks and roads thinking to myself ‘here’s a fun job’. Seeing all these great cars whizzing around exotic locations in a fight for speed, stamina and victory. I vaguely remember seeing the Turbo 5 jumping over little hills, crashing around corners narrowly missing spectators and reporters, mud everywhere… look at me taking a trip down memory lane.

That’s why I love SOLIDO’s drop of this car and similar cars like it, the sense of nostalgia and history that come with it and the fact that I can pass on this legacy with a little example of what my childhood was like in terms of how and the way cars can define and shape our lives. This little hot hatch is a thrill. The forward mounted engine hood pops open to reveal the main spare tire. Sadly, because this is a midengine car, we miss out on seeing the tiny but mighty 1.4 Litre engine that produced 158 Hp and then subsequently the factory would push

the envelope several times before reaching the maximum (R5 Maxi Turbo) 345 Hp they could squeeze out from the engine. The detail on this SOLIDO model continues to astound as I delve further into the car. The attention to maintaining the original features deserves praise and appreciation. Pop open the rear door to find the spare tyre strapped in as well as can catch a glimpse of what a rear wind diffuser looked like in the 80s.

Little things that could have been easily missed. Good to know SOLIDO has been thorough in replicating this. The interior has also been given a little attention. Red racing harness which appears to be made of fabric, roll cage, racing steering wheel, beige interior mixed with the barebones ‘stripped down’ to race body of this Turbo, not too shabby at all.

This is certainly one for the rally fans because even though this is homologated car it was actually built to be a rally car. The way the weight is distributed, the centre of the car’s gravity, the ride height the flared rear wheel arches with air vents to help with additional cooling on the rear wheels all these little things that scream born to race.

4 WRC VICTORIES | 9 PODIUM FINISHES This was obviously a woman who wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps and like to do things her own way which is the sort of drive that catapults a person to greatness. But to be a World rally Champion as a woman in a male dominated world is not easy. Michele had to deal with disbelief, ego’s and outright sabotage by race officials to get where she did and not once did she let any of them see weakness instead she churned out so much talent that the respect Motorsport teams have for her till this day is undoubted.

According to Michele “Then my father said, ‘I know you like to drive. I will buy you a car and pay for one season. If you are good, then you should get some results.” Obviously the results were good.

Rallies in those day were severely grueling and took an extensive toll on both human being and machine. In some cases some rally drivers just couldn’t cut it especially on tracks like the African rally circuits. But Michele in her Audi Quattro would see it through decimating the competition.

Michele Mouton to this day works to encourage more women into the world of motorsport and uses her own experience to show easily the glass ceiling can be broken.

AUDI QUATTRO

I think my favourite quote from Michele would be when photographers would come up to her during races and ask her to smile for the camera. “I would hate it when the journalist would come to me at the end of a rally and say, ‘Can you smile?’ I would say ‘OK, you go and find Blomqvist or Mikkola, ask them to smile and then you come back to me’.”

The winning car at Pikes Peak 1985 The Internet is the perfect place to go to learn more about Michéle Mouton. There are plenty of articles that do her life history justice and we certainly encourage you to check it out. And when you feel moved enough to want to own a piece of that history you can check out the Michele’s winning AUDI Quattro in 1:43 scale at SPARK MODELS. What’s interesting is, this is car that silenced all the critics and naysayers who tried to sabotage her run at the famous Pikes Peak which she won in 1985.

Mark Valdes

Having to face the ups and downs of rallying is not easy there are some days you can have an excellent run and there are some days your car won’t even start. Through this roller coaster of emotions Michele would ride it out and prove that gender does not define how well you succeed in sports but success comes from how you handle failure. “Not the kind of day you forget,” she says, “and it gave me extra mental strength, because I realised that if I could score one victory then it was likely I could score more – so it was a significant launching pad. To know that I could win at that level… it mattered a great deal. – Michele Mouton

Top: In its fight for gender equality, AUDI and LEGO have created the action #ElPilotoEsElla #SheIsThePilot to pay tribute to Michèle Mouton, the first and only woman to win a World Rally Championship event, to inspire a whole new generation of women drivers.

We especially like the young, fresh and cool reporting, which is POSITIVELY DIFFERENT FROM THE USUAL REPORTING ABOUT MODEL CARS. We are curious to see where the journey with Schuco and CastHeads will lead us. LAURA GIES • SCHUCO

964 993 1:43 964 993 SCHUCO GETS RAUH

FEATURE : SCHUCO GETS RAUH

Just when we thought 2020 was already going through a RAUH period over spilling from last year, we get some new contenders throwing their champions into the already highly contested ring of RWB heavyweights.

Glinting in the sun sitting on my worktable are Schuco’s new 1/43 scale stars that come in four colors and a limited number of 500 each. Two iconic Porsche models given the RWB treatment with a Schuco Finish is a true treat for RWB collectors. Also, you will find that Schuco believes in integrity towards intellectual property rights which means you can be sure that these models have passed all the licensing hoops it needs to jump through before getting to you. Which in turn increases the value of your limited-edition models in leaps and bounds over a period of time. Another thing I’m grateful to Schuco for, is the decision to make this a 1/43 scale model which comes in their acrylic box displays. A

1/18 RWB scale is actually hard to display due to its wide body design but at 1/43 the scale is perfect for appreciating the awesome finish and detail of these classics. And, they go well with another brands 1/43 scaled RWBs. The two models that Schuco features with these four models are the Porsche 993 RWB and the 964 RWB, the 964 comes in a fiery metallic red and royal

FEATURE : SCHUCO GETS RAUH navy blue whereas the 993’s come in a gorgeous purple and green respectively. All four colors are completed in a very high gloss finish so it's just as well that their luster is unmarred by dust thanks to the base and acrylic cover. A word of caution though. As tempting as it is to open these up constantly to take glam shots of your 1/43 RWB garage these are display models that are quiet delicate and as much as I didn’t have any major incidents there were a few heart attack moments when I thought I done some irreversible damage to the car.

Usually I would pick purple over any other colour, but Schuco made it hard by creating such great finishes that its hard to choose between Red, Green, Blue and of course purple. Personally, I think owning all of them is the easiest way to go.

Flawless is probably the best way to describe the castings of both the 993 and 964 I have flipped twisted and turned each model upside down looking for a blemish or damaged spot maybe an issue that QC missed but honestly the cars we have been sent are perfect. The edges are curved beautifully, the large rear wing mounted solidly and no gaps on the body means as far as these go one would give these cars a very clean bill of health.

FEATURE : SCHUCO GETS RAUH Moving on to other parts of the models, we love the headlights on both version of the cars because they have again been replicated to follow the real thing which includes those 80’s / 90’s textured headlamps, period correct YAY! The wheels are similar across all 4 models with slight variations in colour but they are all deep dish, forged 5 star rims wrapped in low profile tyres with the famous idlers painted on the tyre walls. There also the little things that sets Schuco apart from the rest like chrome painted exhaust tips and meshed intakes on the front buffer of the car, neat little tow hooks on the front of the cars. All little details that get missed or dropped from smaller scales.

Schuco’s ability to build beautiful detailed 1/43 scale models has translated well onto their RWB effort and to be honest we are super stoked that they didn’t go 1/64 instead. First, the 1/64 market is saturated beyond words especially with RWB’s not like it’s a bad thing. But more importantly the second point, is the fact that at 1/43 you can appreciate more of the car with more detail without compromising on display space. I hope and pray that we will see more RWB’s from Schuco!

FEATURE : SCHUCO GETS RAUH

We do hope that Schuco will continue to make more limited edition RWBs because they seem to be really good at doing so.

Lincoln Continental Mark III Standard Edition Automodello™ presents a distinctively American vehicle that was the epitome of opulence and comfort Ph o t o s/Writ t en b y Lan c e Mü l l er

The Sheer length of these "Land Yachts" were impressive to say the least.

The 1:1 model, being a two-door coupé, was 216.1 inches (21ft) long and 79.4 inches (6ft) wide!

One the best things that happened to me was stumbling on the Automodello™ site. In the search for fine scale models to include in the magazine, I managed to stumble up on the Automodello™ website. I was quite impressed by the selection of models listed and made it my personal goal to bring news of these fine models to collectors all over the world. Jim Cowen, the CEO of Automodello™ And I connected via email and discussed how to begin this partnership, and he was kind enough to share a selection of pictures of current models that I could use in the magazine, and then pleasantly surprised me by sending a few delectable models that I could write about. Among the few that he couriered across to me was this beautifully detailed 1970-71 Lincoln Continental Mark III Standard Edition from their ONE43™ collection. I am positively wax nostalgic when it comes to old models. While I love almost everything automotive, big American metal

holds a fascination for me. Why? Because growing up in Asia, you are surrounded by Japanese econo-boxes and little European runabouts. Only the ultra-rich could afford American cars (its still the case) and being a righthand drive country, American cars were severely limited. Alas the few classic American motors that are seen on our roads has to be fitted with a placard that states "LEFT HAND DRIVE" on the rear. Also fuel here is ultra expensive, so gas guzzling big V8s was almost never an option when purchasing a car. The biggest American cars, mostly station wagons were converted to hearses here. A few Lincolns and Cadillacs still see service, but mostly are now replaced by purpose built Volvos. But we digress, so back to the Lincoln Continental Mark III. The Lincoln division of the Ford Motor Company was tasked with creating luxury vehicles and to compete with Cadillac in terms of everything

and then surpass it at every given opportunity. The Mark III was introduced in 1969 as a successor to the Mark II, though officially not considered part of the Lincoln line-up, it was sold through the Lincoln-Mercury dealer network. It didn't share any underpinnings with its predessor, but was totally unique. It was mounted on a modified Thunderbird frame. The vehicle is a whopping 216.1 inches (5.4m) long and 79.4 inches (2m) wide. This is a two-door four seater mind you. It featured leather twin high-backed lounge style seats in the front, adjustable steering, a custom-made Cartier clock among the instrument cluster on the walnut veneered dashboard, and many many comforts for the owner. It was indeed the epitome of luxurious driving in the early 70s. I think I wrote a lot about the 1:1 version, now lets look at the model.

Automodello™ Combines impressive details and attention to period authenticity which makes their models a splendid addition to any collection.

Nothing fronts like a classic American car, concealed headlights, recessed wipers and ABS before ABS was a thing.

This model is from the Automodello™ ONE43™ Line, which features some highly desirable models. This Continental Mark III Standard Edition in silver with a matte black top, red interior and rolling on a white-lined tires with the iconic ribbed design hub caps in silver. Its glossy metallic finish does capture the light quite well.

A Continental ad from the 1970s featuring both the Mark III and the Lincoln Continental, two distinctly different models.

A Continental 1971 brochure photograph featuring the car on a shag carpet... can it get any more seventies than this?

Automodello™ has chosen to render as a premium 1:43 curbside resin-cast model. The standard model is 143 pieces while the Tribute Edition is 71 pieces. And the Homage Edition in Black is limited to just 24 units. All are hand-numbered and officially licensed by Ford Motor Company. This model, and others, are available on www.automodello.com with extensive details, payment plans and you get to accumulate points with each model that you buy which goes towards exclusive offers. They also have an extensive dealer network worldwide, so getting your hands on a model wouldn't be too difficult. We will have many more models to review with each issue, so till next time, have a good one.

CASTHEADS COUTURE

CREATING

WRISTORY A very apt term for what the guys from REC Watches are trying to achieve. And with fantastic results. They believe in recycling bits of history into their brad of amazing watches. Imagine looking at the timepiece on your wrist and knowing that it fought in world war 2 or has battled the elements in an unforgiving rally. To REC every watch needs to tell not just the time but also a story of historic significance. REC – RECover, RECycle and REClaim. These are the 3 processes that go into constructing each individual limited-edition piece. Truth be told these are not your regular run of the mill TAG or Seiko with prices starting at US 1,000/- but sometimes the history is just priceless.

DIAL IS CUT DIRECTLY FROM THE 911 RS AND COATED WITH A GREY, SEMI TRANSPARENT LACQUER, ENSURING THAT NO TWO DIALS ARE IDENTICAL.

THE YELLOW THEME

THE 901 RS BLACK AND YELLOW COLOR SCHEME IS A TRIBUTE TO THE ORIGINAL COLORS OF THE DONOR VEHICLE

THE BRACELET

THE 901 RS FEATURES A STAINLESS STEEL BRACELET, EFFORTLESSLY FOLLOWING THE DISTINCTIVE SOFT LINES OF THE 901 CASE.

PORSCHE and Motorsport go hand in hand but now the combination can adorn your hand in the classiest form of a REC limited edition time piece, which as you can see here is completely stunning. Colours, layout, materials, everything has been looked at through the lens of a 901 RS Porsche and put together in the most amazing fashion.

THE CASEBACK

THE CASEBACK IS INSPIRED BY THE ICONIC 911 OTTO FUCHS RIMS – INCLUDING THE ROTOR DECORATION RESEMBLING DRILLED BRAKE DISCS.

THE CROWN

THE CROWN IS DESIGNED TO MIRROR THE HORN CAP OF THE EARLY 911 STEERING WHEELS.

THE VIN NUMBER THE 901 RS IS ENGRAVED WITH THE ‘VIN’ OF ITS ORGAN DONOR.

What’s awesome is the history doesn’t stop at face value (watch pun). The brilliance permeates throughout the time piece so that even the rear doesn’t miss out on representing everything this time piece is all about. The 901 RS is limited to just 250 pieces and rocks in at a price tag of $1,995 USD

THE DIAL

DONOR CAR HISTORY VIN 9113600237 Starting off the 901 RS didn’t see a huge production run with the number of cars produced coming in at under 100. So finding one is really hard. The donor car was made in 1973 and then went into the hands of German rally driver Peter Rumpfkeil who in turn thrashed the car around many rally circuits including the grueling Monte Carlo rally for 3 years. In 1982 it was sold to a car enthusiast who took 30 years to restore it until it was finally sold in 2015. During the restoration there were many pieces of the car that were left aside and unable to be used and these parts are the ones that have gone into the limited edition REC watches. After hearing about the REC project the son of the Rally Driver who originally owned the car contacted REC to find out more about the project which resulted in him being able to supply REC with more information and photography relating to the origins of the car and its early rally days. For example, the very first owner of this car was the famous German Racing Driver Clemens Schickentanz. So much history in one car and this is the excitement stories that REC watches bring to your hand.

THE Rauh - Welt BE The metal dial is handcrafted and is taken from the left over parts from Akira Nakai-san's personal RWB 911 build, the famous "Stella Artois". Its protected by a stainless steel case topped with a Sapphire crystal glass with three layers of anti-reflective coatings.

The stainless steel caseback isn't run-ofthe-mill either. It features laser engraving and deep etching of the multispoke wheel design and REC and RWB logos with the limited edition statement

The case is 44m in diameter, 46 with the "body -kit) and a height of 14.5mm. It also weighs a 130g.

The case features black and gold PVD coating that will enable it to handle most activities.

RWB STELLA It’s crazy or ironic that REC watches would take two of my fav RWB’s and put their genius spin on these wonderful and stunning time pieces. For those who don’t know Stella Artois is the favourite beer of tuner and RWB founder Akira Nakai. What makes each RWB special is that personal touch of his and which is why part of the package is him naming the car.

EGRIFF COLLECTION The 901 RWB Rotana is a more modern approach, featuring distinctive pieces taken from the parts left overs from the build of the second of Akira Nakai-san's personal rides, the 1995 Porsche 911 (993) that became the iconic RWB Rotana

The Caseback features deep etching and engraving of the 5-spoke wheel design of the Rotana and REC x RWB logos with the limited edition statement. Remember there are only 305 pieces of each design in the world. While it features the same materials as the 901 RWB Stella watch, the PVD coating is black and purple. The Black rubber strap (FKM, Flourcarbon (Viton®), features debossed textures, RWB logos and a quickrelease system.

RWB ROTANA Inspiration strikes in the darndest of places and that is how Akira Nakai’s weekend racer ‘Rotana’ was born. The great part about Akira’s genius is that he can derive inspiration from the oddest of things and then translate that back into his RWB project. Doesn’t it feel special to finally be able to own a part of that inspirational genius!

PORSCHE 911 GT3 RS BBURAGO 1:18

The anticipation of opening up the package containing footwear and clothing from Porsche Design x Puma 2020 line was unbelievable at Castheads HQ. Here was a collection that contained some ultra cool pieces and we just couldn't wait to slip into and take out for a test drive. We can wax lyrical about the feel of the fabrics, the cut, the fit and no doubt every word would be true. They have gone to great lengths to fuse modern tech and slick functional style into clothes that make you feel oh so cool (in every sense of the word). Porsche Design has always been known for clean lines and sometimes Spartan aesthetics, but with Puma getting into the mix, the clothes just pop with accents and colors that makes them stand out in every way. We can get into the tech, but any brief search will tell you about all the future tech and sheer Earth-friendliness they have weaved together into these clothes. The feel of the basic tees and pants, made for the relentlessly active among us, is soft, breathable, and light, while the sweats and outerwear will keep you warm when the Celsius (or Fahrenheit) drops, and wick away the moisture when it gets hot AF. The footwear just cocoons your feet and provides a sensation of just air-walking (remember those things?) without the cumbersome springs (seriously you don't remember them?) The LQDCELL trainers we tested felt like dipping your feet into a lightweight all encompassing sheath and with the tech that's gone into the sole, you know that your high-impact antics won't have a jarring shock to your system. You need to experience that for yourself soon... Or now whichever is first. We love the eco-friendly yet fashion forward vibe of this entire collection. Time to start collecting a lot more than scale models.

PORSCHE 911 TURBO RSR SOLIDO 1:18

TURBO BOOSTED Car culture breeds a lot of clothing that is some that iconic and some, well most, that are here today, and gone gone tomorrow. The Puma x Porsche Legacy collection is headed into the former territory. Combining the smooth and always-in-time design of Puma and the jaw-dropping style of the legendary Porsche 911 Turbo, this selection embodies footwear and apparel that are "must-haves" for any casthead, gearhead, motorhead and sneakerhead with an ounce of panache. Lets get one thing straight, this collection is targeted at the crowd that understands understated elegance and those who understand that true style is timeless, and those that require their clothing to keep in tune with their lifestyle, just like the icon they take their cues from. Most of the clothing has the classic "Turbo" logo emblazoned on the back... just like the view of the 911 which drivers will end up seeing. The graphics blend into the clothing most of the time, but sometimes it contrasts in a unmissable manner like in the white crew neck tee that features the logo in black across the back. And they have again woven technology and eco-friendliness into the materials used. The footwear stands out and we are quite certain that its going to be a hit. We tested the Porsche Legacy Future Rider, a design based on one of Puma's most iconic designs from the 80s, the Fast Rider. These sneakers have blocks between the sole and the cushion to provide support for your feet... How cool is that? This is a wardrobe we would like to have filling our closets. CAT WITH CLAWS SCOTT NADE AU

The story of how this model came to my collection began in February early last year. Live and Let Diecast received an unexpected direct message on Instagram from the Cultivated Collector. These guys have been building a reputation around the concours circuit bringing around their one of six Schuppan 962CR's and even more notably, big cats like the Jaguar XJR-15. Of the 53 road cars build by TWR and Jaguar Sport, at least 7 of them have passed through their Connecticut showroom here in the States. It turns out they were searching for a 1:18 scale model of the lesser known and overshadowed XJR-15 super car from the early 90's. Unfortunately, no such model existed in that scale, but out of disappointments come new opportunities. They asked me to persuade a manufacturer to produce a commissioned run of Jaguar XJR-15's; they wanted to make this model happen no matter what!

I quickly fired off as many emails that I could to every quality model manufacturer who's portfolio would welcome an XJR-15. I heard back from only a handful, thanking me for reaching out but they all were ultimately not interested in producing the Jag at the time. It wasn't until I reached out to my good friend Patrick Strong of Model Citizen Diecast when our quest picked up steam. Patrick is beyond knowledgeable of the scale model industry. He agreed to join me in my mission and began to put together a list of contacts that we could reach out to about a potential XJR-15 run. As part of

"Cult models were the first to bring the XJR-15 to 1:18 scale glory is enough to earn my respect. The car is well executed, and brings about the same level of quality you would expect from a high-end model."

his due diligence, however, he received some intel that Cult Models were already ahead of the game and had a planned a release of this Jaguar in the final quarter of 2019. I reported the good news back to the Cultivated Collector and we all waited patiently for the car's release. Cult Models is known for their high-end resin models of off-beat and eclectic cars, and the Jag was a perfect fit in their collection. The XJR-15 ended up being my first model of theirs in my collection, but I quickly added an '88 Aston Martin Virage. The Jaguar was released in both blue and orange, but I ordered a blue car like the two I had the honor of viewing in person at the Cultivated Collector's showroom when I paid them a visit.

Just the fact that Cult models were the first to bring the XJR-15 to 1:18 scale glory is enough to earn my respect. The car is well executed, and brings about the same level of quality you would expect from a highend model. There are, of course, a few things that I could nitpick about on the model. First off, I don't like the color blue Cult decided to use for paint. The shade is more of a navy color, rather than the brilliant Mauritius Blue that most of the XJR-15 wear. Second, albeit a sealed resin model, the sealed grilles on the side vents look unrealistic. I hope they decide to reissue the car in yellow as well, or even replicate the ultra unicorn Jaguar: the XJR-15 LM.

STEFAN BELLOF IN 6:11.13 MINS AROUND THE NORDSCHLEIFE

T ex t : L u k as L ang / Pictu re s : Nick Mü ller

I am very happy to present you the l atest joint project of my good friend Lukas and me. The text is completely written by him I contributed the pictures again. The Porsche 956 and its successor the 962 are probably the icons of the Group C era in the 80s. Numerous victories in Le Mans, the World Sports Car Championship and national championships can be attributed to the prototypes made in Zuffenhausen. At the wheel of the up to 640 hp strong factory cars, only the best of the time took their place. Jacky Ickx, Derek Bell, Jochen Mass are just a few well-known names.

From the 1983 season onwards, a certain Stefan Bellof was part of the Porsche works team. In this car the young German was to celebrate great successes in many races. Thanks to the manufacturer CMR you can put some of the successful Bellof-Porsche in scale 1:43 in your own showcase. I would like to describe three of these models in more detail.

1983

The first car in the bunch is the 956K in the version of the 1000KM race at the Nürburgring in 1983. Already in his first year in the factory team Bellof causes a sensation again and again. This was the case at the last 1000KM race in May 1983 on the old Nordschleife of the Nuerburgring. During the qualifying, Bellof pulverizes all previous lap times. With an average speed of 202 Km/h he circles the Nordschleife in a fabulous time of 6:11,13 min. This lap time will be undercut only in June 2018 by Timo Bernhard in an unregulated Porsche 919 Hybrid. With the victory in the 1000KM race it will still be nothing for Stefan Bellof and partner Derek Bell. Bellof loses the 956 in the lead in the "Pflanzgarten" - area and crashes into the safety barriers.

1984

The second 956K was used by Team Brun Motorsport in 1984 in the Supersprint at the Nuerburgring as part of the German Racing Championship. Bellof won this race after a distance of 32 laps. At the end of the 1984 season he was not only German Racing Champion, but also became World Champion with his partner Derek Bell in a factory Porsche sports car. He also drove for Ken Tyrell's team in the Formula 1 World Championship. Here, too, Stefan could convince with good performances in an inferior car.

1985

The Third 956 is from the 1985 season and was also entered by the Brun team. Bellof had left the Porsche factory team and continued to drive F1 for Tyrell. In addition, he still drives in the sports car world championship with partner Thierry Boutsen. The model corresponds to the version of the 1000KM race at the Hockenheimring in July 1985, but unfortunately the race was not successful for either driver. Back in the lead, the Porsche was left without fuel in the tank shortly after the halfway point of the race. However, a few weeks later, in September 1985, victory on the circuit at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, should be possible. But when trying to overtake Jacky Ickx in the factory Porsche in the Eau Rouge, both cars touched each other and slide into the crash barriers. While Ickx is able to get out of the car unharmed, Stefan Bellof was killed in this accident in Spa on September 1st, 1985.

THE MODELS

All three models are, as already mentioned, made by CMR in 1/43rd scale. One clearly notices that the quality of workmanship has improved and so the models of CMR do not have to hide from miniatures e.g. of Minichamps. Many beautiful details paired with harmonious proportions and flawless paintwork leave nothing to be desired.

Hello my name is

a s s i l e M and I'm addicted to toys I’m a sentimental soul. Most of my diecasts have a connection to some happy thought. It could be a movie or television show, an adventure I had with someone special, or even something I’ve longed to do or have. A photograph is like a memory frozen in time forever. Whenever I combine these two passions I’m able to express those feelings for others to see. I have many styles of photography. I shoot most of it in natural light because I like to play outside! I first thought to photograph toys to practice photography in general. I instantly fell in love with it because of the creative magic it stirs up. I also photograph Lego minifigures. Usually to direct a scene that involves people interactions. When I photograph cars they are usually 1:64 scale. Sometimes I shoot them portrait style and other times I prefer action style. Growing up, I just wasn’t your average little girl. I preferred cars and star wars action figures over Barbie Dolls. It’s more popular for girls to play with cars today but it’s been a long time coming. I guess that’s why I get excited when I meet other women who collect or photograph diecasts! I’m thankful that Instagram has connected me with so many people that share my interests, like Castheads Magazine! Especially during these troubled times. It makes the world seem friendlier and a lot more fun.

HAVING A LOOK AT THINGS THAT ENHANCES A COLLECTORS... COLLECTION.

ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US

As any collector will know, most larger, and higher end models come in rigid-foam packaging and is a pain-in-the-behind to properly display. It's intricate details have to be protected from a host of things including, but not limited to, dust, spillage, fur, hair, dandruff, and a million other particles that somehow is immediately attracted to (as if by magic) the moment you let the model out of the package. And if the need arises to display the star of your collection on your office table or corporate boardroom and protect it from handsy people, the options available to cocoon it in a safe environment may be quite limited. And if you aren't satisfied by cheap plastic cases that do no justice to your dream model, we might have a solution for you... Well, actually Atlantic Case might have a solution for you. Atlantic Case is a company based in Turkey that produces display cases that range from 1:8 to 1:43, ramps, limited edition diorama cases, and multi-model wall mounted displays. It comes in a range of sizes from 1:8 to 1:43 and colors to make your model pop. The hand-stitched base is highly reminiscent of upholstery found in the interiors of expensive cars. While it's available in the basic shades of black, beige, burgundy and brown, there are over 15 colors to choose from, a racing green, bright orange, brilliant white, sunshine yellow, corsa red and even turquoise. All the cases are hand-made and no two cases will be alike. The little variations found in each case is because they are crafted individually.
