EDITORS NOTES We are back once again with a massive bang to 2020! Tons of events lined up across Asia, the releases have been relentless and a new trend of moving pre order dates earlier and earlier suggests that brands are starting to feel the heat of competition being turned up. In some cases, you can order May and June releases now. It’s a race for your pockets and it’s a race to earn a place on your shelf. Questions like, should I sacrifice two 1/64 cars that would now cost the same as a 1/18? Or, do I need a fourth job to keep up or do I stop myself buying every single variation of the same car that comes out every month, that has got me frothing at the mouth even though I’m still paying off for the last 6 I bought? These are questions that will keep you up at night which will lead to you staring at your collection in pride for a while. But we are not here to make it easier. In this issue we show you some monsters and where they are hidden. Bavarian Beasts to be specific. So sharpen your traps and load your weapons the hunt has begun. Welcome to 2020 its going to be mad.

Its great to be back after the Holiday Hiatus with you folks. 2020 started off with a bang but it has been a real roller-coaster and its only March. While the world reels from the fast spreading CoVID-19, we would like to take this opportunity to tell everybody not to panic, wash your hands often and that some of your models are going to get delayed, its alright, they will get to you. This year, Castheads Magazine is going to be a part of the Singapore Diecast Expo in April and the Malaysia Diecast Expo in July. The magazine was represented by the gregarious gentlemen of Future Diecast Expo at the recently concluded Nuremberg Toy Fair (Spielwarenmesse) 2020 where they met some of the world's biggest model car and toy manufacturers and seeded some great relationships. We are also expanding to providing more lifestyle based content than reviews of model cars, we want to tell you the stories behind the models themselves. We hope that you enjoy it. And since most of you are now spending a lot of time indoors, we got some great content in this magazine to digest. Enjoy!!

JAGUAR PROJECT 8 While GT-R’s and Porsche’s have been taking center stage in 1/64 this one has come in highly underrated and understated even within the elite Hot Wheels circles. This sleek Jag in burnt orange has gotten a nice set of front tampo’s and a beautiful paint job, really a good demonstration of Hot Wheels really pulling it off when they want too. This should be in your collection this year no doubt.

ALFA ROMEO GUILIA Matchbox has given us a bright red Alfa Romeo Guilia and we are in love with it! By far one of the nicest looking 1/64 models you can find in the same range. Great mold details both metal and plastic. Great tampo details on the front and rear. And, the Matchbox wheels are perfect for the shape of this car. This is a rocking one from MBX

bugatti Chiron

Since the Veyron, not many people were sure we would see another Bugatti from Hotwheels. So, when this was announced collectors were on fire. One thing is for sure, HW is making sure they don’t lose this license and a lot of care has gone into doing this model. A lot of hype around this car, there is a black variation as well and we love the tiny logo set into the horseshoe. The lines of the car have been done well, the choice of wheels also go well with the car an all-round good job, now we have to see what the customizers make of it.

French tuners Alpine thought about reviving the A110 and as far as the automotive world goes, everyone’s pretty happy with the outcome. James May bought one which could help sales (some would say au contraire). And Hot Wheels churned out their version and they made every effort to impress. Great Tampo placement on both front and back including the Alpine car badge that goes across the rear lid. Hot Wheels is dropping some winners this year.

CASTING REMARKS - THE EURO LAP Majorette Scale 1:64

McLAREN P750

There is no mucking about with Majorette. These guys take their cars very seriously. Great body mold, plastic headlights, great detail on the rear from molding to tampo and is another great supercar for the collection. Bruce would be very

pleased to see the current line of McLarens that’s have been coming out of his factory just as much as we are pleased seeing these models coming out of the Majorette factory. Unfortunately this model is

one of the very few cars that do not have opening parts whereas quite a few of the other Majorettes do.

Tarmac Works Scale 1:64 Tarmac Works does other cars! And, to be honest we have had no quality issues with them so far. We also review cars based on how you would see them every day on your shelf or in your display unit. The R8 line has proven itself to be a formidable race machine that grips the road like a pit bull. I like the 1/18 versions from TW and the 1/64 versions are quite slick.

AUDI R8 LMS

This is the latest model released. Edoardo (Edo) Mortara the king of Macau’s 2016 R8 LMS and quite a successful racer in his own right. TW has reproduced a lot of his Audi R8’s and even a few AMG’s that run Edo’s liveries. If you are a big fan, these are the models you should getting plus, they look outstanding on race based dioramas.

CASTING REMARKS - THE EURO LAP

It is Ferrari’s most imposing V8 yet and, their fastest, according to them. 0-60 in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 340 kilometers in an hour. I think we can safely assume that most of us reading this will NOT be making plans to have a Pista stored in our garages next to the old Nissan Sunny. We are incredibly happy about the design departments return to the sharp-nosed layout which we saw in the 80’S. The last few decades we have seen a more snub-nosed style.

Bburago Scale 1:43

FERRARI 488 PISTA Looking for a Pista on a terribly affordable budget? Bburago is value for money! As primary holders of an all important FERRARI license Bburago has quite the line of Ferrari cars in different grades and scales, This Pista is a 1/43 version from their signature series which, is on the high side of their budget cars. Great exterior detail, simple interior but with a color logo on the steering wheel and a nicelooking engine in the engine bay. Opening parts would have been nice

You can trust Alfa for two things; unreliability, and fast everything. Fast sedans, fast saloons, fast spyders, fast coupés and of course in this case fast station wagons. The 156 to start with is a cult classic a massive favorite amongst executives that wanted to shine a little more than the CIVIC driving toff. When the kids come the CIVIC goes and gets himself a Honda Grace and the speed savvy, Italian appreciating, social climber gets a SportsWagon.

If you are an Alfa Romeo fan then this a hands down, easy choice for you. The reproduction is Otto Mobile quality with no issues, We love love love the Alfa iconic wheel rim style which resonates so well with the 156 and artfully recreated. Also, because of its nice sloping shoot brake design, on the shelf nose forward, the car easily passes off as the sedan 156 version.

PARENTAL TURBO BOOST

This was the kind of station wagon you would brag to your friends about and try and get a ride in, as much as possible. Voted the best VOLVO Model for 2019 by the Volvo Model Car Club on social media this perfectly crafted icon was a 240 BHP beast in its heyday. In fact, someone in the design department threw down his lunch and said in his thick Swedish accent, "we are tired of eating meat balls everyday ja, sometimes we want chicken!" So, they took everything they had and turned a meatball station wagon into cordon bleu, drizzled with the finest swiss cheese. Even today the T-5R is in demand and so is the exquisite example from Otto Mobile which is like the fondue of car models.

CASTING REMARKS - THE EURO LAP Otto Mobile Scale 1:18

VOLVO 850 T-5R

The exterior is perfect without a single thing out of place the decals at the back are pasted on perfectly, no paint errors anywhere and all attached parts fit in place with no gaps. The interior is unmistakable Otto Mobile quality and level of detail, like the red wood paneling around the gear lever in the center console. One of the things that made the design of this car so iconic is the rear lights mounted vertically along the rear pillars. This gave vehicles behind the Volvo better visibility but also gave them an idea of how wide the vehicle was in low visibility. Perfectly re-created right down to the structural design of the lights themselves. Love this so much, we are going to look for an actual car as the company ride.

Being a car of the future, you can of course expect to see enough carbon fiber to make a small dinner table as well as LED lights in strange shapes on the car all carefully and truly replicated. Even the door hinges look like high quality hydraulic as opposed to the dog leg hinges we usually see. The interior looks amazing too with visible stitches on the upholstery. This is a pricey model and a bit on the high scale, but the level of detail matches the price. A really nice model to have.

GRAN TURIS MO Thankfully the Alpine brand refuses to die. In fact every once in a while it chokes and splutters to life coughing up a rarity of epic proportions and then they settle down for a while going all quiet like nothing ever happened. To celebrate 50 years ALPINE dropped the A110-50 or curiously also known the The Renault Alpine ZAR.

Majorette has done two versions one in the Alpine A110 blue sporting the anniversary logo’s and a large rear downforce wing. And, the other one you use to pick up a super model and head out for dinner at your favorite high spender restaurant, Both very interesting cars to have in the collection. They don’t have plastic lights because the lights are too narrow so in this case you’ll find them as tampo’s.

Couple of issues back we featured the NISSAN Concept GT-R by TLVN. Now we follow it up with Majorette’s version and quite honestly for 1/3rd the cost Majorette has done a supremely awesome job. I love how the racing yellow stripes line up with new Nissan branding on the nose. We did some research into Yasid Design which in the side of the car and it turns out to be a crazy design studio/dude who has crazy prints for sale. Wonder if Majorette would do a CastHeads Magazine branded car.

Secretly we prefer the red and white variation by Majorette.

Slowly growing in popularity and vegan friendly Formula E is set to electrify the motorsport in a big way. Not too mention Felipe Massa’s career as well. Add, this to Majorette’s brilliant production line and we have another winning race set from Majorette this year. And we all saw what they did with last year’s race series and the rally cars so this year we can expect nothing but great things.

So far it looks like we’ll be getting 4 teams, DS TECHEETAH from China, MAHINDRA from… you guessed it… India, NISSAN E.DAMS from France and PANASONIC JAGUAR Racing from the UK. Upon close inspection of the images we have received it looks like there will plenty of detail right down to the electric motors that spin those wheels silently. Even Pod Racers on Star Wars were noisier

This almost true-toform model closely reflects the actual model that will compete in the 2021 races. AERO FEATURE STORY - NEW TECH CONCEPT

This is what happens when engineers get together, strange machines appear. This is the Aerocar built by Eugenio Grosovich and Gianfranco Bricci from the city Cordoba. Obviously, one was made and it stayed in concept stage thankfully. Otherwise this would have been the perfect thing to lop dissenting citizens heads off after a failed revolution. Powered by a V6 4 Stroke Chevy Engine this 90 HP ‘concept’ car of the 1950’s has been re-created by Autocult in 1:43 scale and limited to 333 pcs. If you like collecting rarities especially in the motor world this is a great topic of conversation. The big question on your mind. Did it work? Of course not. Apart from being one of the most dangerous things to be put on 4 wheels the propeller generated massive amounts of wind, which would be useful for drying laundry for the neighborhood or a spot of kite surfing. But in a city situation this wasn’t practical at all in fact it was the test run was a hair-raising experience. Again, it is a great piece of motoring history that you should have on your shelf.

CASTING GREATS - BARONESS EWY ROSQVIST

Why aren’t there female race drivers? Which is how the conversation

started. There were the juvenile usual responses about driving inabilities, which led to a more a serious discussion as to whether the sport has been geared towards being dominantly male, whether that’s a perception and whether it has something to do with physical fortitude (I have seen pictures of women on Instagram that could probably throw my large body like a javelin across a field think the last argument was a cop out).

Seventh Argentine Touring Car Grand Prix (7 Gran Premio Internacional Standard Supermovil YPF), 23rd October to 2nd November, 1963. Eugen Böhringer and Klaus Kaiser take off after a hump in their Mercedes-Benz 300 SE (W 112). In a triple Mercedes-Benz win, Böhringer and Kaiser finish the race ahead of Dieter Glemser/Martin Braungart and Ewy Rosqvist/Eva-Maria Falk.

So, I though the easiest thing to do would be to deal with the fact that question needed to be asked at all. And the simple answer is, there are and have been around for centuries.

Matchbox Scale 1:64

MERCEDES 220SE What’s awesome is, with YouTube you can watch how the Baroness thunders down mercilessly in her Mercedes 220SE raising dust hell behind her, catching air over hills, drifting through muddy alpine passes all while maintaining the calm composure of a Baroness taking her Mercedes out for a spin and some high tea.

CASTING GREATS - BARONESS EWY ROSQVIST The Argentine rally from what I watched online in 1962 looks like it was wonderfully scenic but hell to travel on unpaved roads, where gravel corners curves could spin you off into un-survivable drops. But here’s the thing, watching her drive was as exciting and entertaining as watching Sebastian Loeb or Tommi Makinen and she’s doing it in a car that was built for cruising despots. And when Ewy Rosqvist was told she would not be able to complete the race she not only won it but did 3 hours ahead of everyone else.

November 1962. Ewy Rosqvist / Ursula Wirth, wins the Grand Prix Argentina in her Mercedes-Benz (type 220 SE W111)

Ewy re-writes the rule book of motor racing at the time, right down to shattering the myth of how motorsport drivers at the time came from privilege. Ewy was a career woman who earned her ability, to win rallies by driving between remote towns on terrible roads as a practicing vet. Her first gig in racing was with VOLVO as a factory driver. Two years later seeing her impressive win Mercedes jumps in and buys out her contract. She ends her career with Mercedes Benz but remains a close friend to the brand, she ended a career without any accidents or broken cars leaving behind a fantastic racing legacy.

That is the story behind this beautiful hat tip to the past by Matchbox and though it was done as symbol of empowerment for young women it would serve as a great history lesson and lesson of respect for our young men.

In a world where everything oversized is celebrated, it’s hard for me to wrap my head around so many RWB haters. But these are same people who take part in tame Porsche Club Sunday drives sipping cheap champagne and eating traffic light sandwiches, Downtown Abbey with fancy sport cars. Tarmac Works’ rendition of the Rotana in 1/43 scale is super slick to say the least. And I know Tarmac Works has been getting a lot of heat over their QC issues but the Rotana I hold in my hands is flawless. And, one of the things I was worried about was the structural integrity of the double stacked rear wing, to my surprise its wellbuilt. The matte purple is blemish free and the body lines all match perfectly with no gaps or indents. Maybe 1/43 is Tarmac Works sweet spot.

TORQUE

GARAGE

This is another terrific addition to the TW’s RWB 1/64 collection which you must have as part of yours. Finished of in RWB’s signature matte black and based on the 993 this chunky monkey looks mean and bad especially with the blacked-out rims. We like all the RWB bases which are designed to go with the car but the color combination on the base of the Oba Bone really stands out. This coupled with the new RWB garage set is an excellent piece to get.

GT Spirit Scale 1:18

MERCEDES BENZ AMG GTR PRO

AhhMeinGott!

Opening this box was like opening 10 years of birthday presents all at once. I wanted to laugh, cry, scream all at the same time. It is a thing of beauty and yet so beastly in so many ways.

For starters I love this car, I have it many iterations, which is the least I can say the rest of my car collection even in the Ferrari section. I love the long imposing nose that ends in an all mighty air sucking grille. The AMG engine that growls underneath, and it does growl, angrily and loudly. In real life this car is pure presence. It cannot be ignored. Owning one is a very very slim option unless your deal with devil includes a debit card. Or, you could get yourself this 1/18 scale beauty from GT Spirit.

The unboxing was truly a breathtaking moment as an “Ay Caramba” quietly slipped past my lips. I was super excited. Now, the problem with resin is that the weight varies depending on the preparation of the resin. And sometimes the resin model turns out to be heavier than the DieCast Alloy and Metal. In this case I was totally unprepared and didn’t have a good grip on the car. To counter dropping the model I placed my fat thumb on the rear wing….and broke it. In 1:1 life it would be akin to me sitting my thumb like frame on the actual rear wing and breaking it… I was devastated.

SPECIAL REPORT:

BAVARIAN BEASTS

Having gotten past the initial horror of what happened I proceeded to take a more introspective look around the car albeit very carefully considering I had just an earful from our co-founder about my ‘supposed’ clumsiness. This car for me represents, one thing. The dream to be stupid rich. If I was rich I would get one supercar but if I was stupidly rich I would have a supercar for everyday of the week. This would be my Wednesday car. Even the paint work says I’m all business with a streak of insanity.

For the record, GT Spirit does not mess around with QC all the cars come with cards that stand for a QC inspection done, so needless to say, ours was flawless. As you can very clearly see every detail that can be thought of has been gone over with a fine-tooth comb. A great prank would be to hide someone’s actual car and leave this in its place…maybe not. For now, just having one of these sitting on the shelf in the CastHeads Headquarters gives us a sense of satisfaction, like we’ve achieved something…. like we’ve made it (we haven’t). So many emotions from a 1/18 scale model, GT Spirit obviously you have done something super right.

The details are extreme right down to the structure of the lights. These are not, slapped on pieces of plastic but intricately detailed to replicate the real thing right down to the last reflective fin.

Now that’s wheeeel goodness, right there. 10 Spokes is just enough to show off those slotted discs and AMG caliper. The trinity of class sits in the center.

The annoying thing about resin is that, when I see the actual car on the road I run up to it like a dog discovering a new fire hydrant and peer through windows panting against the glass, with resin I’m still doing it……..arrrggggghhhhhhhh!!!!! If you are addicted to carbon fiber, don’t buy this model…you might eat it and try to make it one with you.

Sitting in the CastHeads studio garage our AMG ponders what new diabolical feeling to invoke upon me, while I go off to look for some model glue… for my rear wing.

3.0 LITER BEAST RWD REAR ENGINE WITH SO MUCH TORQUE IT NEEDED A BBQ TABLE SIZED SPOILER TO DEPLOY SOME HARD DOWNFORCE The darling of stock market executives and partnered lawyers through the late 70’s hampered unfortunately in the 80’s by US emission laws. Turning the car into a rarity on American and Japanese roads. This model from Solido is not overly complicating. Exterior details are perfect and as always, I love the FUSCH wheels pioneered

by Porsche and the bronze alloys pair well with the blue. Unfortunately, the only opening parts you get are the doors and the interior is as sparse as the real thing and the details muted. Final verdict would be: great value for money as a shelf shown model a nice piece of Porsche history to own on budget.

PORSCHE GT3 RS 4 Apart from the scale model Elitists there aren’t many complaints to hear about Bburago. Personally, I have quite a few AND they seem to weather being owned by me far better than more expensive brands. And, just because it is expensive keeping it in the box forever seems like a real waste of money. If I wanted a collection, I could hide away in a cupboard I would buy sneakers instead. So, when this rocked up on our

desk, I was a happy camper. Great body shape, opening doors, hood and rear engine, no mistakes with the paint and significant improvement on the details in the lights. The interior was surprisingly detailed. Two tone colors black and red (a bit odd) but detailed steering wheel that’s steerable, fairly detailed gear shifter (including paddles) and dashboard with entertainment system…yep it’s a Bburago, haters.

I REALLY LIKE THIS PORSCHE GT3 AND I THINK BBURAGO HAVE DONE A SOLID JOB. EXCEPT, FOR 3 THINGS. 1. THE REAR EXHAUST SHOULD HAVE BEEN MATT SILVER LIKE THE ALLOY WHEELS AND NOT CHROME. 2. THE STRUTS FOR THE REAR WING WOULD HAVE BEEN NICER MORE CUTOUT. 3. THE AERO WINGS ON THE FENDERS NEED MORE ATTENTION RIGHT NOW THE CAR LOOKS UPSIDE DOWN AND SURPRISED TO BE SO.

MENTAL IS ONE REALLY GREAT WAY TO DESCRIBE THIS MODEL. BOTH IN REAL SCALE OR 1/18 SCALE IT JUST OOZES THREATENING VIBES...YOU DO NOT WANT TO FIND THIS UNDER YOUR BED

Check out this green goblin with its bronze shoes and tinted headlights. Yet another GT Spirit I’m in love with. I love Audi station wagons that being said I love sporty station wagons. They have enough space for a small party and enough speed to throw shade on most sedans. This AUDI, however, would throw more than just shade. We are talking total blackout!

To be honest, this was the first time I was hearing about ABT and to me the more tuners in the world the better especially the ones that get a nod of approval from the parent brands. Because you know what’s under the body works perfectly with upgrades that are made to fit. So, I went over to the ABT website to learn more, there I found the ABT configurator and two hours later…. i’m back to writing this. What I did learn is that ABT do upgrades on almost everything including the interior, so, if you look inside your GT Spirit Model you will see the ABT interior not the just the upgraded exterior package. This is a gorgeous looking car in a unique color that usually on scale models reserved for Lamborghinis or Vipers. It will stand out in your collection and by far one of the best tuner looking station wagons (or estate cars) that I have seen in a long time. It may even factor into my 1:1 goals.

Ahhh the E30, it's fast becoming a classic car that must be owned and is increasing in classic car value. Might be an appropriate time to pick one up! In the meantime, you can get yourself a 1:8 scale version to help mentally inspire you.

IS FOR MONST

There is no doubt that this might cost you a few fingers at the very least and, quite a bit of space. Maybe anger your life partner as well. But there is no denying the awesome feeling of owning a giant BMW model that will have all your car mates drooling and salivating over. It will quickly become the toast of Instagram and you will be known as the man with the ‘big beemeer’. 30 years from now something like this would be equivalent to getting a Ferrari 330P4 model today. It is undoubtedly one of the best looking boxy shaped cars of the 80’s that was an awesome ride on the road. Fantastic handling due to its compact frame and brilliant steering, explosive power

It was also a model that was very popular and successful on track. This red beauty has the mark of approval by GT Spirit and at this size all the details in all its clarity will give you goosebumps. If you have owned this car in your life then this model will take you back, if you currently own this car then this model will fit perfectly into your life. And if you don’t have a BMW M3 E30 this model will definitely make you want to own one.

Otto Mobile Scale 1:18

BMW E30 325i The perfect classic for tropical weather specially with the top down, wind in your hair and possibly some other nasty stuff can blow in as well. Fortunately, we are talking about the 1/18 scale kind and this gorgeousness from Otto Mobile is definitely a charmer. In one of the apartment blocks I lived in, there used to be one of these sitting in the basement garage, taken out very rarely for a show or BMW get-together. I used to admire it everyday until one day it wasn’t there anymore. I cried.

THE CONVERT

BMW I’m really glad Otto Mobile have re-created this fantastic car. I love the dark green metallic paint with beige interior typical of 80’s color combinations. The whole overall retro look of the car is captivating and much like the earlier BMW spoken of in previous pages this invokes a ton of nostalgia.

E30 325i Being a convertible the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate the amount of work that goes into creating these models is admirable. The steering wheel, instrument cluster, dashboard, gear lever, all carefully crafted and put together in this fine 1/18. Even the side door panels have not been spared the details. We can’t wait for more.!

MinGT Scale 1:64

BMW E30 M3

Right now, everyone is going gaga over new BMW E30 (white version) that MINIGT has released. In addition to the white on a red one will be released soon, which is kinda cool. Because if you get the red one from MINIGT and the Red one from GT Spirit you will have the same cars in two extreme scales. So far MINIGT has not put a foot put of place. They do great 1/64 cars with no issues except for the fact that they are milking the LBW Nissan GTR for all its worth. But look at this BMW and tell me you don’t want it in 1/64 scale. Especially with those authentic 80’s chic rims.

TIC TAC M3 MINTY FRESH MONSTER

The DTM Tournament held in Europe has some of the coolest liveries in motorsport we’ve seen in fact they come a close second with NASCAR when it comes to body art. Famous German loved brands slathered across Mercedes, Audi’s, BMW’s etc all dancing on track in a not so graceful battle of speed, wills, energy and color.

This particular model was driven by Allen Burg during the 1991 DTM utilizing the Tic Tac livery as well as being part pf The Tic Tac Tauber Racing team. Unfortunately, the Tauber didn’t do too well with Allen dropping out of the table at number 43. But

it just goes to show how the right branding can keep cars memorable even if they weren’t victorious on track. What’s interesting is Micheal Schumacher was also in this race and had placed 20th driving a Mercedes Evo2 2.5 Liter for Zakspeed. Champions with smaller beginnings. Of course, this is a great piece by Solido, we love the gold BBR race lace rims and the quirky tic tac livery. Also cool is the stark white race interior with a single seat and roll cage.

ELIŠKA

JUNKOVÁ CMC Models Scale 1:8

BUGATTI 357

“If he’s going to be the love of my life, then I better learn to love these damned engines” were the famous words of Eliška Junková talking about her husband’s racing interests and career (for some nowadays this would called ‘couples goals’). Born at the turn of the 20th Century this woman took the love for her husband and turned it into one of the most successful racing careers any woman had at the time.

CASTING GREATS - ELISKA JUNKOVA She and her husband were not weekend warriors, they were the real deal with a passionate love for Bugatti’s. Her big chance came, when her husband’s old war injury prevented him from being able to shift gears easily and she went from riding mechanic to driver out pacing their rivals and killing the competition. She won her first solo race in 1924 driving the Bugatti Type 30 at Lachotin-Tremosna in Czechoslovakia finally getting the attention she deserved as a formidable Bugatti racer which was no easy task for anyone considering how hard it was to drive those machines. In 1925 she won the Zbraslav-Jiloviste Hill Climb and in 1926 she went after the famous Targa Florio race in Sicily.

Á

Of course the men drivers teased and mocked her abilities saying that she did not have the physical make up to complete such a race. But, what she lacked physically she made up mentally by spending a month memorizing the 67 mile track and all its 1500 corners which was something she would regularly do in future making her one of the first race drivers to do so. She led the Targa Florio in 4th place till she had steering failure and crashed out. She then went on to win the 2.0Litre class Grand Prix at Nürburgring becoming the first woman to win a Grand Prix but suffered two broken ribs after she was enthusiastically hugged by the overall winner of the event Otto Merz. 1928 she attempted the Targa Florio in a newer but much harder to drive Bugatti, however she led in second place before suffering a flat tire and broken water pump leaving her to finish fifth. Sadly 1928 was the last year Eliška raced. During the German Grand Prix her husband was killed and a devastated Eliška gave it all up to go traveling. Ettore Bugatti gave her a new touring car for her trip to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka home of Castheads Magazine) to drum up export business for Bugatti. She was known on track as ‘Queen of the Steering Wheel’

The Cigarette branding and the Gillette World Sports Special which showed a lot motorsport and racing sports at the time. Up until 2005 the GUIA Race of Macau was a one-off race that filled the Macau race calendar featuring Touring Cars a bit like the Asian DTM. Due to its popularity the race is now a part of the FIA World Touring Car Championship.

This car looks stunning in real life as it does in pictures. Those deep dish BBS rims are incredible

Hans Joachim Stuck is not just a veteran race car driver but a man who hails from a racing family. His father Hans Stuck was a famous race driver during the early part of the 20th Century and both his sons continue the legacy. The man learnt to drive on the Nurburgring for crying out loud that’s legacy material right there. His second race at 19 was the 24 hours Nurburgring where he won driving a BMW. This beautiful 625i is what he drove in Macau and won the Guia Race in 1983. In the following year he raced the same car but unfortunately came third. Though this was provided to us by Tarmac Works and we found this on their site this is a collaboration model between Minichamps and Tarmac Works. Which is why you will see Minichamp logo’s all over the box. But hey, who is complaining especially if you bought other BMW’s from Minichamps you know what to expect. I keep saying the car is as good as it looks in the pictures. But as I gaze at it while I write this I think differently. One more Beemer before we hit the road and this one comes in the shape of a new M4 built by Maisto in 1/24 scale. Both Bburago and Maisto do some pretty decent 1/24 scale models.

I have a pretty neat collection of 1/24’s from both Maisto and Bburago and I do love adding to it. This time becoming part of the fleet is this striking bright Orange BMW M4 with those crazy sick wheel rims (great choice Maisto) in silver and orange paint. Features wise there is not much to look at. Strange, because a lot of their other models 1/24 would have had tons of opening parts. Whereas this one has only the opening and closing doors. This one definitely fits into the ‘car collecting on a budget’ category but on the high side which means it will sit perfectly in your BMW collection without you feeling guilty about buying this loud and brazen model at a great price.

Randomly trawling through the Castheads Instagram account my eyes caught a post that was shared with some really curious looking art. Unfortunately, I have a hyperactive fat thumb that had over-scrolled too far and was taking time to scroll back. And, I am glad I did. I ended up discovering this guy from Indonesia and boy he takes it to the next level. All his work is done by hand and usually on top of the existing paint work of the car. But what really breaks the boundaries of his design is the sort of thought process that envisions how the outcome is going to look.

CUSTOMS OFFICE

At first glance, it looks like a lot of randomly drawn lines at weird angles, making up weird shapes. But follow the lines closely and you will see insane method in this madness. He pushes the envelope further by developing matching bases so that when you look at the car on the base at a certain angle it looks like a complete picture painted on a canvas blending a 3D object into a linear 2D design.

You can get your own piece of stunning art created by father_holzmobel and shipped to you complete with a display case and packaging. Next time you are looking to buy someone a car related gift and you want it to be exclusive and personal this is the guy to check out on Instagram.

T S A L E H T & T S R I F

GREAT S This is not a comparison! This is more of sales pitch to buy two 1/18 scale Subi’s for your collection. The only similarity between these two cars is the amount of passion and quality control that goes into these cars by their brands. The Subaru GC8G STi is by DNA Collectibles who have so far made a massive impression

SUBIES amongst collectors for their eye in the details. The ‘HawkEye’ Subaru Sti is from Ottomobile another brand synonymous with quality and detail. Put the two evenly matched in quality standard brands together and you’ve got a cool Subaru stable.

DNA COLLECTIBLES I struggle to find things to say about this car without sounding cliched, but the fact of the matter is, this is another stunning piece from DNA. No paint issues at least not out of the box. Simple details like lights, door handles, headlight washers, indicator lights on the fenders everything you know and expect on the real car is there. Interior is detailed and of course highly accurate right down to the type of seatbelt and seatbelt locks. DNA have built a reputation for quality and it’s not being let down by this I can assure you.

OTTO MOBILE

Like the older brother by DNA Models this stunning car does not lack anything in the quality assurance and detail department. Check out the details the headlights themselves hold and the imagine that quality expedited throughout the rest of the car. Again, like the DNA model this is a sealed car but like a voyeur you can peek through the windows and enjoy a sight of great detailing at work. Put these together and your Subaru fan friends would just drool a pool and want to spend many sleepovers at your place. Which your wife and kids will not find amusing.

Undeniably a car that set the world on fire especially in the hands of the man Colin McRae and still one of the most sought-after cars amongst the younger speed racers of today. DNA have done an excellent job of capturing the perfect example of a car that captured AND broke many hearts and wallets all at the same time.

Design wise it always hard to beat the newer model simply because its sole purpose is to beat its predecessor. But it’s really cool to be able to look at the two cars and appreciate the evolution of design that has gone on between the two spectrums. And of course, OttoMobile have had years of experience creating excellent scale models of which we have yet to see a single complaint. Subi fans and lovers you MUST have these two.

SCARLET RED SCUDERIA FERRARI, SPENT A WHOLE SEASON LAST YEAR DISAPPOINTING ME AND HAD ME SHOUTING AT MY TV BUT ONCE A FERRARI FAN ALWAYS A FERRARI FAN AND THIS BBURAGO 1/18 2019 FERRARI IS COMPLETELY BLOWING MY MIND.

The helmet inside is the one of Sebastian Vettel and I have to say this model is a really great close up glimpse of the what the real thing looks like when its not zooming around race tracks at 300 kmph or sitting under a cloak inside the pits. Just looking at this model makes me feel excited by the impending season and reminds me of the hustle bustle and noise of a race weekend.

Hopefully 2020 will be a better year for Renault and together with Esteban Ocon, Daniel will be able to pull out more of his racing charm and start bringing some real season points to the table. In the meantime we are enjoying all this F1 love sitting in the office with this on the table.

UNFORTUNATELY 2019 WAS NOT THE YEAR FOR RENAULT AND TO BE HONEST IT HASN’T BEEN RENAULT’S YEAR FOR A LONG TIME EVEN WITH THE INCLUSION OF THE TALENTED DRIVER DANIEL RICCIARDO THIS TEAM HASN’T BEEN ABLE TO PULL A PODIUM SPOT IN A LONG TIME. SOLIDO HOWEVER DESERVE PODIUM FOR THIS MODEL.

ITS RENAULT VS. FERRARI AT THE CASTHEADS TESTING TRACK. YOU CAN SEE THE BITTER RIVALRY BETWEEN THE FORMER TEAM MATES. WILL DANIEL TAKE IT LYING DOWN OR WILL SEBASTIAN HAVE TO FIGHT FOR HIS PLACE ON THE SHELF?

THE RENAULT IS STANCED PERFECTLY WITH ITS NOSE SO CLOSE TO THE GROUND, ONLY A SHEET OF PAPER CAN GET THROUGH. AS YOU CAN SEE IT MAKES A FANTASTIC LOOKING CAR ON TRACK

SOLIDO’s representation of the Renault F1 car had me giddy like a school kid from the minute I got it. I’m an F1 fan and I will take great joy in all that is related to F1. If you share the same passion then you should share in my joy and order the 2019 Renault F1 car into your collection

I LOVE FERRARI SOME EVEN SAY BLINDLY. I’VE DONE SO EVER SINCE MY FIRST F1 CAR FROM A PACK OF FROSTIES DRIVEN BY NIGEL MANSEL. SO HAVING THE BBURAGO 1/18 SCALE IS HEAVENLY

Together the cars look like they are from the same company. The scales match which is always hard to do between brands, great for diecastographers and influencer. I love this model and sometimes when I steal a glance towards it, it makes me feel like I have arrived.
