My editors car pic on the month is the Nissan GTR Snap-on livery from Tarmac Works. It is the first TW I purchased from JLHobby and the one that inspired us to start the magazine. Once again thank you!

1995 Mercedes-Benz S124 AMG E36

The Mercedes-Benz 124 hearkens back to an age of vehicles that was built to last years, through almost anything that could be thrown at them and some serious mileage. This was before AMG got their hands on it. Then we go into insane territory. Upgraded to a 3.6L six-cylinder 24-valve M104 which pushed close to 272hp. OTTO Mobile perfectly recreates this iconic model right down to the Monoblock Aero II wheels and the paint scheme. The model is presented in Azurite Blue with a black leather interior and wood trimmed dash and center console. Be aware that production is limited to 1500 units. GT Spirit

1992 Bentley Turbo R The Bentley Turbo R was an elegant and a decadently luxurious predecessor to the Mulsanne Turbo. The "R" stood for road holding, which this model needed because its powerful 6.75L turbo Bentley V8 certainly propelled this beast to incredible speeds and times (under 7 seconds it seems) that belied its weight. The model is painted in Rhapsody Blue and has a cream leather interior. Scale 1:18 Status: July 2019

1969 AC Cobra 427 MKII Caroll Shelby's contribution to American Motoring is legendary and none is more so than the AC Cobra. Built to bring the A-game to American and European motor sports, this light chassis mated with a Ford V8 proved a winner in every sense of the word. This particular model, the 427, was launched in 1965 with a reconfigured chassis, widened tires, buffed up wings and a 7L engine that produced an astonishing 410hp! Solido presents us a highly detailed model in a gloss metallic purple with black leather interior. Scale 1:18 Status: July 2019

Range Rover Velar While the entire collecting world is twinkly eyed at the return of the Bugatti and Toyota license to the Mattel fold, one model has largely gone unnoticed among the Hot Wheels aficionados around the world. And that is the return of the more luxurious end of the Land Rover family. Last time we saw the Range Rover in the Hot Wheels line up was in 1999. Hot Wheels debuts its Range Rover Velar this year and it's a stunner. Metalflake silver with a black roof-line, side mirrors and fully tinted windows. I am sure many will bemoan the fact its not clear windows, but how many Range Rovers do you see with clear windows? With tampos all around including the lights, "Range Rover" on the front and back, with the also the rear lights and logos done right properly. Its rolls on 10SPW wheels. 2016 PORSCHE 911 RSR When it comes to racing, Porsche has stood out among its contemporaries for bringing hard-fighting models to these ultra-competitive sports. The Porsche 911 RSR is not exception to this longstanding tradition.

This particular model was built from scratch for the grueling racing in some of the World's most challenging courses. Amalgam Collection has faithfully recreated this amazing machine with complete accuracy. This was enabled by

scanning the actual car and creating the CAD data it and strict scrutiny by a team from Porsche themselves. The model arrives in a luxury black box, set on a polished acrylic base protected by a clear dust cover. Scale 1:8 Status: Available US$ 685.00

Toyota Supra with Brian O'Conner Figure (Fast and Furious 2001) The first Fast and Furious film back in 2001 created a global phenomenon that is still going strong. The first spin-off, Hobbs and Shaw just released a few days ago. But the iconic orange 1994 Toyota Supra Mk IV driven by Brian O'Conner (played by the late Paul Walker) remains forever etched in the hearts of castheads, car enthusiasts and movie buffs alike. Jada Toys presents the car in every minute detail with opening parts and a removable targa top. It is also accompanied by a 7cm metal figure of Brian in his classic black t-shirt and jeans. 1973 Mitsubishi Galant FTO GSR The Mitsubishi Galant FTO (which stood for Fresco Turismo Omologato) was a fine example of the finest blend between Japanese and Italian motoring technology. The 2-door coupé was built between 1971 to 1975. This little lightening bolt could race to 180 kmph OHC inline 4. Norev brings us this fine model in light green and a drak red leather interior. 1974 Maserati 124 Coupé 2+2 Italdesign

This Maserati 124 Coupe dubbed the "Green Arrow", was a model that was going to bring Maserati up from the brink of financial ruin in the early 1970s. So the design of this new model was builders of Italdesign Giugiaro S.p.A. or short Italdesign. The designers under

the personal stewardship of its founders, Giorgetto Giugiaro and Aldo Mantovani, created this delightful silhouette that everybody was quite proud of.

1974 the prototype was exhibited and open to the public for the first time at the annual Turin Auto Show. This model will be limited to 300 pcs.

TomyTec reaffirms its position at the apex with the upcoming release of the GSR Lancer Evo IV in titanium silver and pearl black. 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX SG54 Masterpiece Collectibles (MC64) Singapore's homegrown premium diecast brand is celebrating the Island's National Day with the release of a super limited edition Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. The car will feature a red and white livery with images of the Merlion, SGP and 54 emblazoned on the car. Citroën 2CV The iconic car, first released in 1948, wanted to motorize large numbers of French farmers. Featuring some innovative engineering and low maintenance, the model was produced till the 1990s. Majorette released the model in Burgundy and black with silver accents. The Sleeper WELLY NEX MODELS SCALE 1:24

PORSCHE 911 TURBO

"FUCHS" styled wheels painted in matte black. There was a bit of overpainting of silver from the rim but nothing a little touch up can't fix.

While trawling various FaceBook pages for a decent deal, I came across this Welly NEX Porsche 911 Turbo at 1:24 scale.

1:24 is a great scale for me, like Baby Bear’s Bed in Goldilocks, just right. Not too big and cumbersome

as 1:18’s go, but still big enough for some good detail. And at the price point this has pretty exceptional detail. Nice paint job (Pink Porsches are all the rage these days) diecast body smooth, rear flared wheel arches are curved nicely, the ride height sits well. It's a must have for a Porsche fan.

Graffiti art on the Berlin Wall

Wheels turns, wheels roll, doors open, and the rear engine bay opens and available in assorted colors. My choice is a good striking color. The interior is the heaviest ‘meh’ you can use, however the exterior is really really good. I want one in every room in the house. It is a good casting of a childhood fantasy.

Air cooled happiness, the stuff of dreams for Tuners around the world RUF, RWB, SINGER (not the sowing machine brand, seriously…) tinkered and toyed with this generation of 911’s and produced monsters that thunder down the highways of Asia

The Future TOMICA LVN SCALE 1:64

NISSAN GTR CONCEPT

A Mythical Beast still in its concept stage but super slick. The Nissan Gran Turismo Concept done exceptionally well by Tomica Limited Vintage Neo.

Right now TLVN are the darlings of 1:64 while other brands battle their demons, Tomica delivers consistently every time. This one was cherry picked because of its striking paint job but if you fancy other colours it also comes in Wine Red and Silver. Rubber tyres sit thinly on the five blade shaped alloy wheel with visible discs and brake calipers although it would have looked extra bomb if the discs were slotted instead of plain.

Plastic lights for the front with the rear ones painted on, of course machine perfect. I’m impressed with the Nissan logos as well. It could well have been something the designers couldn’t be bothered with, but, because they are Japanese they did sweat the small stuff and it looks good. At every angle this is a classy piece of work.

The Beater HOTWHEELS CAR CULTURE SCALE 1:64

77' PONTIAC FIREBIRD

A Pontiac Trans Am Firebird in Hollywood is as iconic as Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween. Its most famous role was in the hands of Burt Reynolds who played the Bandit in the famous car trilogy of the 70’s Smokey and the Bandit. And like the screaming phoenix on the Bonnet, the Pontiac keeps making its appearance on screen generation after generation mesmerizing and captivating new fans every time. Proof would be its re-surgency into Hot Wheels 2019 Car Culture ¼ Mile Muscle Series and this is the best they have ever done it. When it was first announced I knew I had to have it and when I did get my hands on one without having to buy the entire set I wanted cry tears of joy because, it looked fantastic in the flesh (blister pack) and wasn’t a letdown like some cars can be.

Paint finish and graphic details can’t get better and it’s clear that Hot Wheels realize the 1/64 competition is stiff because they have stepped up with their Car Culture Premiums. Sans opening parts this, is bordering on Tomica Premium levels. Nice one Hot Wheels, nice one.

No expense spared or corners cut. All the tampos, graphics, logo’s, lights emblems etc, are in place. While writing this article I keep glancing to the side to look at this sitting on the desk, it’s a show piece this one.

Rubber tracked wheels. Wider and larger at the back (this is a Hot Wheels thing and not an accurate replication of the car) Hot Wheels has done a great job on the DeepDish depth and low profiles. For those who enjoy a bit of rolling action, the tires coupled with the weighted metal on metal body make it a nice smooth experience.

Hot Wheels have been doing this casting for a while now most of them coming out in the flame series. The first generation had a shorter wheelbase but then the cast was re-done and the car was made longer and stanced lower.

MCLAREN SENNA McLaren build an ode to Senna, Mini GT do a fantastic replication of it, everyone is scrambling to get one.

AYRTON SENNA 1993 HELMET While walking around AMCORP mall Malaysia looking for good deals on a Sunday, which is what Sundays are for. Our friend from GnS Miniatures points out these Minichamps Helmets at one of the corridor shops. Ayrton Senna 1993 and 1992 F1 helmets. Heavy, on a base in an acrylic case, RM40, bought. End of Story

MINI GT is flexing its muscles and proving to the competition it is not to be trifled with or ignored. Consistent quality, better detailing in the price range, better licensing agreements so a decent amount of product runs and don’t forget MINI GT is owned by True Scale Model, these guys know what they are doing. Paint finish, love the paint job, love the colors available Grey, White, Orange and Onyx Black. Also, seems very acclimatized to tropical weather.

Bodywork, from fin to spoiler to the Senna’s jet fighter styled exhaust have been faithfully replicated, as we would say in office ‘DID’ (detail is dope). In the future we may see Ferrari do a ‘Schumacher’ we hope by then Ferrari licensing will continue to be with the current associates, if not I would think MINI GT would be a great possibility.

WORTH WATCHING SENNA DOCUMENTARY Since we are on the subject, check out ‘SENNA – No Fear, No Limits, No Equal’ the perfect cliché’ to put on the back of your car instead of ‘Real men use 3 pedals’. A great documentary that will tug at your heart strings, but a great way to get to know the man and passion behind the name SENNA.

MERCEDES AMG GT HELLO KITTY

Even if you are not a Hello Kitty fan it’s hard to ignore the stylishly designed Mercedes AMG GT3 in a black, white and pink combination. Top body finished in gloss white, the bottom in a matt black finish with pink highlights outlining the black including pink wheel rim protectors. Even the side mirrors have the have been perfectly re-created with the tiny print on the back. Looking at the actual car TARMAC WORKS has done a great job at replicating this into a 1:64 scale model. This car was entered into the 2017 Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup by the German race team Kornely Motorsport and driven by Yoshi Mori and Kenneth Heyer.

RACING MIKU Mercedes AMG GT3 Researching the background into who Hakune Miku is, took me to some interesting places and videos. Hakune Miku is actually a vocaloid software that sings in over 10,000 Japanese songs and made by a company called Crypton Future Media. They then took this voice and turned it into a cyber based singer and has had successful LIVE concerts with Hakuna as a hologram. Goodsmile Racing took Hakune and slammed her on their 2017 AMG GT3 race car. The result? An anime plethora of color and cool on the racetrack. This car was entered into the 2017 Super GT GT300 Class by GoodSmile Racing and Team Ukyo. Driven by Nobuteru Taniguchi & Tatsuya Kataoka

JADA TOYS 1:24 SCALE

SPEED RACER MACH 5

Growing up in the 70s and 80s would make it impossible to miss the famous the team behind Speed in the cartoon series Speed Racer. Speed drove the MACH 5 which looks like 3 plane fuselages’ strapped in tandem and together with his supersecret friend or brother Racer X they join forces to combat evil all over the world. The 1:24 scale model from JADA Toys is a great nostalgic nod to the series and the character Speed Racer. JADA does some really great TV and Movie based models and once in a while they like to throw in something a little obscure. Like the MACH 5 with opening doors and metal body.

CASTING REMARKS BRUMM 1:43

LUPIN THE 3RD FIAT 500 Another great Japanese Animation that grew around the world for its cheeky charm and racy storylines. It’s a great series and definitely something we would recommend for watching purposes, however its Brumm’s Lupin special edition set that we are interested in getting our mitts on. The main collectible is a 1:43 FIAT 500 F limited to 500 pieces driven by Lupin while the character Jigen takes aim from the roof top. In the box set the FIAT 500 comes in assorted color variants, each with a corresponding character and full cover art tins for the cars once taken out. Unfortunately, the cars don’t come with opening parts but the connection to such a cool character and series along with the striking packaging will look good in your collection.

WoodStock Bus

In 1968 leader of the band ‘Light’ Bob Grimm approached his friend Dr. Bob Hieronimus a painter and doctor of symbology to paint his VW T1 Bus or known as the ‘Light Bus’ named after the band. The result, a cacophony of beautiful colors and symbols that represented peace and love. If you want to dig deeper into the meanings of the symbols on the bus, there is site online called ‘Lightvwbus.com’ which is quite interesting.

The bus a year later made it to Woodstock and the from there became one of the most celebrated and iconic VW Buses in the world, to this day where it celebrates 50 years of being the symbol of peace and love. Sunstar Models have re-created this beautiful art piece and it is stunning. To capture all the details perfectly they have created the bus in 1/12 scale, complete with opening parts and, a full section of band accessories like speakers and instrument cases. Even the packaging has been given the Dr.Bob treatment and the box is decked out in art from the bus. 1970 FORD MUSTANG BOSS 302

Brands using cars as advertising billboards has being going on for a while now and some collectors like to specialize in collecting in brand cars either because they love the brand being advertised or they love the way the car has been used to become a creative advertising medium. While in Malaysia for the Diecast Expo 2019 doing the usual rounds of the seller’s booths I came across a whole bunch of M2 Machines on the pegs and a lot of them were sets with Coca-Cola branding. After conferring with the seller I realized I was getting a sweet deal on a set and got myself the RC02 Hobby Version Release in the M2 Machines Coke range. And the reason for this specific set was the 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302. OK, first it comes in an acrylic box, black plastic base which is covered by an actual piece of metal bus board, not stickered. The acrylic box is thick with a nice display quality quite different to other brands.

M2 MACHINES 1:64

1968 PLYMOUTH BARRACUDA HEMI

Just before the Summer that really made an impact on Bryan Adams life the Plymouth Barracuda got itself a HEMI upgrade. I love the coke M2 Barracuda. The cheeky ‘Zing!’ on the rear quarter panels, that oversized air scoop with ‘HEMI’ on either side overlooking the big white ‘Coca-Cola’ on the front. The red’s much brighter and the paint job is quite clever. It has the same features; quality and opening parts as the Mustang BOSS except all the windows are tinted red. And when we say quality, even the underside of the front engine hood is finished the same as the rest of the car glossed and coated.

Opened, the paint job is premium it looks thick and that gloss shine pronounced, lettered tires and year of manufacture on the number plate. The details are sick, door handles and keyholes in chrome, the rear lights and features outlined in chrome, even the tiny Mustang lettering on the back lid is perfect. The front, same story the lights are actual lens not painted, the mustang logo on the grille is an actual chromed piece and the air lip under the grille is metal not plastic. Opening parts, doors, interior pretty detailed, steering wheel, hand brake gear etc. The open front hood reveals a plastic molded engine with super charger

unit and cool air pan for the carburetor painted blue. Finally, since this car is 85% metal it is severely and reassuringly heavy YOU DO NOT WANT TO DROP THIS ON YOUR FOOT! Underrated in quality M2 is serious business, they have great display qualities and feel premium and to date I have yet to have an issue with M2. Forget Greenlight if you want American Muscle go M2.

The gold paint is something you will really need to see for yourself, I love the call to action painted on the sides ‘Have a Coke’, the hood ornament is actually a tiny hood ornament and in addition to the red windows this one has red headlights as well. Procurement: “Da**it Jim we still have too much red plastic”. Production: “Er, ok…lets do red headlights as well!!! Ok.

I do like the Chase set and will try to make the complete set mine one day. I especially like the red wheels and if the gold one has chromed up metal works then the red metallic will look stunning.

It’s worth repeating when I say M2 has some serious quality and I’m really impressed with all the M2’s I have managed to get for myself over the years of collecting. It is shocking but I feel I must remind you that these are 1/64 scaled cars with a very impressive level of detail.

Put this on my Wishlist and yours, this is absolute bonkers. In the set which is “Release RC01’ you get the 1965 Shelby GT 350R, the 1969 Chevrolet Camero ZL-1 and the 1969 Dodge Daytone HEMI. The one we have picked to feature here is the SuperChase Model, even M2 knew with their build quality and that slick grey on red paint job this is going to be the one everyone wants.

Tiny HK is blowing our minds and rocking the diecast world all at the same time. Now this time round they have taken some really ‘cool’ cultural icons and merged them into a super collectible. We are talking box set super, 36 MINIs in 36 different colors and shades. The Pantone guide is a standard in color put together by a printer and an advertising chap who wanted to standardize color reproduction regardless of ‘on what’ or ‘where’ the printing would take place. And it has been the guide for color on screen and in print since the 1950s.

Classic MINIs are highly sought after by young advertising guys, not expensive but tasteful enough to impress the young advertising girls, nimble enough to beat anything bigger or faster in traffic and it has been the car associated with ‘cool’ ever since its inception.

Put the two together and you get a box set of 36 cars that have opening parts and modeled quite well. We have always been impressed and we feel that so far TINY HK is killing it on the MINI front. They have got two new racing MINIs out and we hope we will be able to get our hands on a pair for the next issue.

I have been bitten by the PANDEM bug badly but have also been fortunate to be able to get them fresh off the press without paying the debilitating prices on ebay. I have missed a few but smack me silly and call me a mad monkey I managed to get my hands on the Andromeda pair. The Nissan GTR and The Toyota GT86 and the paint job is stunning. It really is all the hype, from Blue to Purple seamlessly it feels like some fancy camera trick at play. It’s a paint job that’s a work of art.

The guys at ‘Top Secret Tuning’ are nuts, creatively, thank god. They took a GT-R35 engine and other needed parts and put them into a BNR32 SKYLINE, the result is a sleeper of monstrous proportions, the challengers will never see it coming. Ignition Models have done a stunning red paint job on this car it will look fantastic on top of your white IKEA bookshelf.

NISSAN LEOPARD TWIN CAM V30 TURBO

The 80s was full of big overbearing cars that guzzled petrol and had massive engines that displaced a lot of power. The Japanese car industry was eying the US market and was constantly dropping wide body luxury sports sedans. The ULTIMA aka Leopard is the perfect example of how Japan could also make cars fast and big. Check out the Dark Blue version from ignition Models with the two tone finish classic 80’s paint style LOVE IT!!!!


Ok sh** got real, GT SPIRIT has thrown in their contender for the streets meanest ride and I don’t care what anyone says… I LOVE IT!!! If I had this, I would go to bed with it every night for 1 month. And when I die, I want it to be buried with me.

LAMBORGHINI MIURA LIBERTY WALK TUNED

Now, there are some who will be horrified at the disrespect to such a fine machine a wonder of design by itself, but we’ve been through that already (see Vol.002 Issue 001). There will be those relieved of their club memberships for their unabashed intrigue for this peculiar model. Fear not, because as there are two sides to a coin there are just as many fans of this beauty launching in September. From what we can see the paint looks to be close a nice gloss black, hand painted, and color matched to manufacturer specs, in this case Liberty Walks. The paint process at GT Spirit is very similar to hand painting an actual car with two layers of paint followed by a layer of varnish giving the car a much deeper color as well as accentuating and highlighting the body’s curves. Interesting to note that the car that was built isn’t an actual Miura. In fact Wataru Kato had to create a new body that fit a FORD GT40 chassis and built up from there.

FXXK EVO THE ART OF DESIGN When we opened the giant box from Bburago and Maisto and saw this we thought to ourselves ‘we need to get this car on track for a shoot and video reveal’. So we woke up early morning one day and drove all the way down to Sri Lanka’s international Karting track and much to the amusement of the staff started to click away. First impressions, wow. Comparing it to a 1/1 scale version Bburago hasn’t left anything out, carbon fiber bits actually look like carbon fiber, the Pearly white paint is a nice subtle classy touch and all the extra body work add on’s, make this car look like it’s from another planet. The other great thing is its all opening parts on a diecast body. The replication of the actual car is really very good. The body work is perfectly molded line for line curve for curve, even the little things like the numbered air splitter has been replicated. All the opening parts sit really well and the back lid even has support bars to keep it open. For the price tag its one of the best models you can get in the 1:18 scale and it certainly looks very impressive.

The interior makes heavy use of the carbon fiber effect and the details are not to bad. But I feel that if the steering wheel has the Ferrari Logo in Color, they could have gone all the way and filled in the other lights and switches as well.



Pop the rear lid and reveal to yourself the 6.3 Liter naturally aspirated V12 engine, there is even some cool bright orange piping that runs from the engine and disappears down the side.

Fitted together it was a beast of an endurance car and had 600bHp under the hood. Jacky Ickx and Jochen Mass were the drivers that won with this car in 1976.

RED BULL X2014

A slight twist in the norm and we feature a non-production car created for the popular video game Gran Tursimo 6 commissioned by Kazunori Yamauchi. The car was designed by Adrian Newey with the Red Bull team and the scale model replica built by the well-known brand, AutoArt and its designed by Adrian Newey, did we mention that already? If you don’t know who Adrian Newey is, he’s the Technical Director for the Red Bull Formula 1 team. His claim to fame was being responsible for the cars that Sebastian Vettel won all his championships with. Master aerodynamist this man can build a car to go superfast which is what he did for the game Gran Turismo 6 and incidentally it follows a line of ‘X’ models starting from Gran Turismo 5. When you are given such interesting and challenging design to work with, you tend to put your best foot forward which is what I think AutoArt has done. To accommodate the intricate bodywork and wings this model has been produced under AutoArt’s Diecast Composite series. Using composite plastic for the body gives the ability to re-create all the different vents and slots with perfect and consistent exactness and there are a lot of these slots, fins and things. The cockpit is covered by a little plexi+plastic shell which, retracts up using folding hinges to reveal a futuristic but very detailed interior. Our favorite thing about the model is that giant fan at the back that sucks in air from the undercarriage (vents under the car) and squeezes it out the back thereby pasting the car to the ground round the corners at high speeds. This at 1/18 scale is stunning and definitely going into our growing and never-ending wish list.

Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters is the place you go to see all your favourite German touring cars battle it out on the race grounds of Europe. DTM is like a high tea party in the world of race.

But don’t let your favourite luxury brands like Audi, Mercedes, BMW etc fool you into thinking this is some weekend warrior type of deal, no no no. These DTM cars are seriously modified to go really fast, stop really fast and go around corners really fast. This Audi A5 driven by Mattias Ekstrom (sounds like a character out of Angels and Demons) is made by Bburago in their 1/36 scale series. This is a lovely metal body casting with plastic parts and red rubber side mirrors, The car is weighted well giving it a premium feel as opposed to the cheap toy store lightness of some of the models available unbranded. Perfect size as your desk buddy and dressed in Red Bull Livery to impress.

RED BULL RACING TEAM TRANSPORT

All racing teams that travel need some hot looking team transporters and we love the Red Bull team transporter from Majorette. It’s a MAN truck, thick truck like wheels, great paint job and really nice casting. There are two versions of the truck. One that comes in a single pack and this model with comes with two F1 cars as well. We like the wheels on this one much better.

RED BULL F1 RENAULT RB6

Its exceedingly rare we get to see an F1 casting at 1/64 so it was very exciting to see this RED BULL RB6 from Majorette. This comes with a set celebrating Red Bull winning the 2010 constructors in F1, two cars and the transporter (pictured above). It looks a great piece of casting and we are really surprised we have not seen it this side of the world in Asia.

This and the rest of the Red Bull rally series by majorette is in high demand and we’ve seen some of the crazy prices being paid for them. So, obviously this series is a little hard to find. Unsurprising though the cars look really nice and for those who like collecting Rally cars these make a fab addition.

Ford and rally racing is like Ferrari and Formula 1 they’ve been doing it for a long time and gotten really good at it. This 1/43 scale from IXO is another well-put together model with no opening parts but great exterior and comes on a slanted display base.

Its’ a DAKAR model! You don’t see too many of these and when we do we get excited. This Peugeot looks super mean and looks like it took the desert plains of Africa and beat them into submission. This is another great detailed casting from IXO although we are not too sure about the color of the base.

So, let’s take it to the next level and check out the 1:18 version from IXO models. Obviously more detail although we really find the hair like roof antenna's a little annoying, especially when you want to take the car off the base. No opening parts, sadly we will just have to enjoy the car from the outside only.

BMW M6 GT3

This beast in real life has a V8 M Twin Powered Turbo 4.4L engine that drops 585Hp without a sweat. The Tarmac Works version has great detail and is a perfect replica of the 1/1 scale car. As always it comes in an acrylic box and the base has a racing track design printed on. You can see the disc brakes; print on the side mirrors and of course the Falken color paint job that gets us all excited. Driven by Peter Dumbreck, Alexandre Imperatori, Jens Klingmann, Stef Dusseldorp at the Nurburgring 24H TARMAC WORKS 1:64

So the grand uncle got himself some FALKEN livery as well, but with that light body and excellent power to weight ratio shoved through rear wheel drive he’s become a bit of the drift king on track. This is a general build from Tarmac Works not really representative of and specific entered race but more of an ode to all the Falken Supra’s that have raced so far. Out of all the Supra’s that Tarmac Works has done this is our number 1 because it’s a FALKEN!

MITSUBISHI LANCER EVO X

The last Falken from Tarmac Works and it’s on the Mitsubishi EVO X that was entered into the Nurburgring 24h race. It features a special gear system from tuners ‘GETRAG’. Also, unusual is the gray paint the covers just the top of the car. Normally a FALKEN car is covered in covered in their corporate blue. Another great model, the one we got didn’t have any QC issues thankfully.


Looking for a kick ass FALKEN Rig? We found a nice one amongst JADA’s big rig series. A Peterbilt 387 Semi. At the scale of 1/32 you should be able to load up a couple of FALKEN 1/64’s or even a 1/43 scale model in the back. One thing for sure, if you have a dedicated FALKEN shelf then this is going to fill out your collection nicely. HOT WHEELS 1:64

TOYOTA OFF-ROAD

Probably one of the best FALKEN 1/64 scale models out there for us, the Toyota HILUX Super Treasure hunt with Real Rider Truck Wheels and Metallic FALKEN paint. Till the Team Transporter came out this was the last brilliant job Hot Wheels did on a FALKEN liveried car. Hard to find, but not impossible!

This is one of the Street Fleets everyone has been waiting for and its hitting the pegs right now, although they wont be there for long. This set features the ever charismatic Mercedes 190E Evo which as a Hot Wheels makes rare appearances hence the scramble to get them. Also, Hot Wheels has their own line up of FALKEN’s from mainline to Super Treasure Hunt so the force of the FALKEN is strong in the HW Community. Happy to report, that HW’s has of course done a great job on pleasing the fans and we say if you are lucky to have one cross your path, get it!

Still one of the best mainlines with the plastic headlights. The white GULF variation is also quite nice.

1965 FORD GALAXIE 500 Hot Wheels does many GULF liveried pieces but recently this has been one of the nicer ones. The deep-dish wheels are super cool, the car weighs heavy and on those wheels it rolls like butter sliding down a hot frying pan. The Gulf paint is also really nice with the bottom half and wheel arch outline in orange and the rest of the car blue of course the customary orange stripe down the center is prevalent as well. Definitely worth the pick up.

Talking about the GT40’s yet another race beast that was well known for sporting the GULF Livery. This is an AutoWorld Mijo exclusive limited to about 3500 pieces. But lovely detail for a scale so small bordering on being 1/72 even though its claimed to be 1/64.

MITSUBISHI LANCER EVO X A rally GULF car from Tarmac Works on a good old Mitsubishi EVO X driven by Juha Salo of Finland winner of the Finnish Rally Championship 9 times. We wonder what he does in his spare time? Maybe makes killer ELK Burgers, he really can’t spend all his time practicing the same course. Back to the model at hand once again and as a 1/64 display car we really can’t find any fault with it. It’s the 2010 version which is a year he won in which makes this model a Championship winner. Which leaves us to wonder, are ELK burgers real? HOT WHEELS 1:64

FORD TRANSIT SUPER VAN A popular van that was known to be modded with some insane engines. The Supervan had a FORD GT 40 Chassis and a 400BHP FORD V8 engine fitted in the middle to make this van absolutely mental and then some. Of course aerodynamic proved to be a kill joy and the van would achieve body lift after a while. The GULF Hot Wheels version is adorable with its orange rimmed wheels and little flared wheel arches.

SPARK models are Germany’s big scale model maker and they usually have a lot of nice GT Racing cars in their portfolio like this 991 RSR GT3 GULF Porsche. Really great details and, at 1:43, a nice size. Racing in the LM GTE AM category this is the GULF Racing UK team’s car and is strong contender in the World Endurance Championship.

A LeMans winner the 935 of 1979 was also know as Moby Dick due to it’s long tail optimised for drag. This model by SPARK has the most beautiful racing lace wheel rims we have seen in a long time. BBR 1:18

FERRARI 333 SP There is now doubt that the Ferrari 333 SP is a beautiful car, but when BBR do a 1/18 version of it we are talking close to the highest lever definitely next level. BBR are known for their insane attention to detail so we can expect to see some realism brought in.

First up is Maria Navas from Arlington, Virginia. We were out shopping for toys and we saw these Hot Wheel cars and not only did he want them, but I found myself wanting some too. I have never been a car enthusiast but I found myself wanting one and now I have over 500 in my collection. Not only did I like collecting them, I loved photographing them. I am definitely an opener. They are way better loose in my opinion. Before it started with mainlines then I found out about the regular and super treasure hunts. The hunt was exciting." 3 4 : 1 The RWB madness continues and TARMAC WORKS is not going to make it easy for anyone, seriously!! After slaughtering our bank accounts with an onslaught of 1/64 RWB’s they bring in a bigger scale at 1/43 and we want them, what’s better than a 1/64 RWB? A 1/43!!!

STELLA! STELLAAAAAAAAA! No, it’s not the final curtain call for A Street Car named Desire nor is it the curtain call for the urban street tuned car that fuels desire. The Stella Artois and probably THE most famous RWB returns bigger and sexier in a 1/43 scale version. The excitement in seeing this taken a scale up is almost maddening.

The Apple Machintosh RWB is also back, as probably the second most famous RWB in all its Apple Macintosh glory. This like the Stella Artois version will be returning in 1/43 scale. We cannot get enough of the RWB and we so no reason why we should stop now.

Adding to the line up of 1/43’s the RWB ROTANA the first turbo charged RWB to be built using GReddy turbos. It’s a 993 body but with a 963 3.6L turbo engine and the ECU management controlled by HKS. Most importantly its coming to your desk in 1/43 scale soon.

THE INCREDIBLE DIECAST PHOTOGRAPHY OF PRIYANKA SUMAN IG@priyanka.reborn

In the vast wilderness of Instagram photography, its rare that you stumble upon an oasis of scale model photography that's just done right. And Priyanka's photos of 1:18 models shot against both real and not-so-real backdrops is such an oasis. She uses a phone, and the myriad backdrops her city and travels across India offer, to capture the beauty and essence of these models. We will let her tell you the rest of her story.


I am presently studying in Class XII at a Kolkata school and preparing for next year's board examination, my early childhood days were associated with dolls and soft toys like many other girls. But I also grew up with lots of diecast scale model cars around me as my father is a diecast scale model collector. As I grew up, my fascination for these scale models grew more and more. I came to know many interesting stories about the history of these beautiful cars from my father. And I gradually fell in love with these scale models while my dolls went quietly inside the cupboards. When I took to Instagram, I used to post random pictures taken by me with the help of my mom's mobile phone. Then my father suggested why not pictures of diecast cars in Instagram! And from then on my journey as a diecast photographer started in Instagram. I still take my photos with my mom's mobile, at times going outdoor locations and most of the time on our apartment rooftop, and post them in Instagram after editing a bit. As it happens, I love shooting my models under natural skyscapes. And if there are sunset or sunrise moments, I feel my scale models look all the more vibrant and moody. If that opportunity is not available, I tend to shoot indoor with as much natural light as possible. At times I also make some small dioramas to have a distinctive backdrop for my images. With each passing day I am trying to learn something new about photography compositions so that I could incorporate them in my images.

50Years of Ferrari IN THE LAND OF THE RISING SUN

The Model Car Critic takes us on a visual journey by reviewing a very limited edition Ferrari J50, a 1:18 scale model of the real model that was built to commemorate the marque's 50th anniversary in Japan


GUEST CASTHEAD

During a special celebration held at the National Art Centre in Tokyo to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ferrari in Japan on 13th December 2016, the Ferrari J50 was unveiled to the world. Just 10 examples of this car will exist - each one being fully bespoke and tailored to the owner's specifications. Estimated to cost their lucky owners in the region of €2.5 - €3 million, only Ferrari's one-off Special Projects cars are rarer.

The J50 is a two seat mid-engine roadster that is based on the 488 Spider, but uses an uprated 681bhp version of the critically acclaimed 3.9 litre turbocharged V8 engine (which won the 2016 International Engine of the Year Award). Gone is the Spider's folding roof, replaced with a pair of carbon fibre targa panels. Coupled with that wraparound visor-style front window, the look is certainly super sleek!

Looksmart Models is a member of the MR Group and a sister brand to MR Collection Models. The MR Group is an Official Supplier of Ferrari and this 1:18 Looksmart Ferrari J50 is, of course, a Ferrari Official Licensed Product. Available in 6 colour variations, here we have the J50 finished in French Racing Blue with gold wheels, black brake callipers and Carbonium wing mirrors



(product code LS18_016C). Open the Ferrari red box and you’re greeted with the 1:18 Ferrari J50 sitting on a blue leatherette base with an acrylic cover on top to protect it while on display. The first thing you notice is that the French Racing Blue is simply stunning to behold in person! The second thing you notice is the super glossy carbon fibre applied around the model – from the twin air channels on the bonnet, to the rollover hoops behind the driver and passenger seats. Don’t forget the massive piece across the rear wing and fighter jet inspired lower diffuser! The interior has a great combination of black and blue on the dashboard along with some carbon fibre and yellow pinstriping that matches the fabulous blue and yellow seats. Whoever specced this car in real life has great taste and Looksmart Models has replicated it really well! My only issue with this model is the overuse of resin cast material to replicate mesh grilles in the side air intakes and around the rear. Luckily the massive air intake in the front is proper perforated mesh, I just wish they would have replicated this across the entire model.

In the world of diecast collectors, diorama builders hold a very special place. They are the people who create extraordinary miniature worlds for castheads to show their treasured pieces on worlds built especially for them.

Harith also credits a lot of people in his life for being supportive of his miniature world building.

Harith Gunathilaka is an emerging diorama builder and customizer who's taking his learning as an architectural student at university, and coupling it with his unique eye to create, and sometimes recreate, the world around him in scale.

He also wants to share credit with his B7 Custom Works partners Pamitha and Dumindu, and others like Lance, Sajja, Hasindu, Sadheva, Ian, Yazir and Niranga and all the others who helped him in many ways.

Most of his dioramas turn ordinary parts of Sri Lankan streets, by lanes, and roads in to amazing backdrops to show off scale models. Harith takes pride in his work, and that clearly shows off in the amount of detail that goes in to each piece.

He thanks his parents and sister for their immense support, and the understanding of his girlfriend, Aish.

IAN DIAZ Customized for Charity

Stephanie Crabbe Kicking off our first CHM Community section is a true heartwarming story from the FB Group ‘Diecast Junkies’ (shout out!) in June about a collector who had been ripped off over a VW Kombi custom AND had to wait a whole year to get her hands on it. She arrives home, again, after a dreadful day to find customizer Stephanie Crabbe had done a fully pro job on a VW Kombi Candy Striper and sent it over… just like that.

From what one could tell from the picture, it looks straight up gorgeous. Lovely wheel choice for starters, great shade of pink and chromed rear bits all came together in the hands of Stephanie Crabbe to make the silver lining in someone’s day.

Out and about at AMCORP mall 9 hours before our flight back home and in between being one of the partners for the Malaysia Diecast Expo 2019 on a Sunday was treat (literally we were like kids at a free all-youcan M&M’s concert). We meet a more enterprising kid. Young Adam flew in with his dad to set up shop on the 5th floor of AMCORP Mall for the weekend flea market (that is another story in itself). Turns out he knew of us and got really excited which had a contagious effect

resulting in Lance giving Adam everything CastHeads related on his back (one badge) and selfies, thank god he wasn’t wearing the Castheads t-shirt…. Awkwaaaaard! Adam is on the top floor on the weekends and he has some super awesome prices, I was in tears when I found out how much of a difference a few floors made in terms of pricing. In this issue the TLVN NISSAN CONCEPT reviewed was picked up from Adam at the best price I have ever paid for a TLVN car. We learnt two things that day one, start at the top floor and two, take more Castheads Magazine merchandise for our fellow Castheads! (P.S. We barely made the flight back)

One thing we’ve noticed on our CastHead adventures across Asia that we need to bring to light is the amount of effort the Diecast Community puts into raising money for charity. We have been to many event auctions where the proceeds go to charity, usually for kids or animals and so we thought we’d highlight some of these in the community and celebrate our social heroes.

This month we feature Ian Diaz of Sri Lanka. Ian is a master customizer whose work has visited some really far corners of the globe and pictured with famous race cars and teams (www.instagram.com/meiandiaz).

Wielding his talent like a Ninja carrying Hatori Hanzo steel, Ian created three custom cars based on three popular and successful Sri Lankan sportsmen. Completed with custom packaging they were then auctioned off to Sri Lankan collectors. The proceeds were donated to the Little Hearts Foundation in Sri Lanka which is raising money to build a Critical Care Wing specialized for Children. We are proud as you are to be a part of this community.

It is unbearable” - Enzo Ferrari This is the sort of passion and pain the book ‘Go like Hell’ captures within its pages. I was quite excited to get this book and read the back story to one of the greatest rivalries Le Mans had seen. I’m also impatient to see the new movie starring Christina Bale and Matt Damon about this famous battle and the birth of the FORD GT40, but this book shows far more than Hollywood’s romanticized version of American Muscle being the underdog to European speed. It is not a frivolous story about two men’s ego’s and the machines they made but a history lesson into the lives of the drivers and their loves and fears. A peek into the emotional side of Enzo Ferrari and the price he had to bear every time a driver died in a Ferrari during a race. There was political wrangling, engineering strategies, managing people and the loss of people, it really is a revelation. AJ Baime the author has gone through great lengths to capture all the sides of Le Mans, from the pleasure to the pain, from the victory to the disappointment, its all there in its naked glory. I found it hard to put the book down at times and it really had some fantastic insight into the man Enzo Ferrari and the people he surrounded himself with. It also gives the readers a fantastic comparison between the American approach to dedication and focus and the European approach. A great book to read especially if you want in depth understanding into one of the greatest motorsports battles in history FORD vs. FERRARI at Le Mans.
