Casterline|Goodman Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in Expo Chicago 2018. This will be the gallery’s second consecutive year at Expo Chicago. The booth will feature great works by renowned artists Mark Bradford, Philip Guston, Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, Ed Ruscha, Richard Serra, Frank Stella, and Jack Whitten. Showcased alongside of these incredible works, will be paintings by LA artist Mark Acetelli and Florida based artist Marcus Jansen.

Mark Acetelli seeks to capture the essence of the female form, in all of its strength and vulnerability in his latest body of work. He believes the beauty that resonates from within has the power to create, nurture and transform the human condition. Mark was raised by a single Mother and this series of works is inspired by her, his wife Lucia and their two daughters Antonia and Francesca.

Mark’s paintings are inspired by the intensely personal introspective journey of life, from the ever-changing complexities of love, loss, birth and death. The context of his work he describes as, "Absence and Presence” pertaining to how someone or something can be physically gone, but the essence still remains. Capturing the physical mixed with spirituality on canvas. His application of paint is an extension of that thought process. Continuously building up and tearing down, layer upon layer, adding and subtracting. A visceral dance between the conscious and the unconscious until the emotion is expressed.

In his new works, Marcus Jansen continues to present the human condition through the exploration of his postapocalyptic world. In these works, he remains true to his tradition of urban expressionism, implementing the chief elements in his artistic approach – abstraction and reality – riding the lines between fact and fiction, surreal and expressive.

Jansen was first influenced by the Graffiti and Abstract Expressionist movement from his birth place New York City, and later, by the German expressionist painters while being educated in Germany. His unique working style is evident on every canvas he touches. With expansive bodily movement, he uses a sponge, his hands, and other painting utensils, to add and subtract from each canvas, pausing again and again to reflect: “I am much more interested in what I feel about a subject than what I see in a subject,” Jansen says. This new body of work, was created on the heels of Jansen’s first solo Museum exhibition titled: DECADE, which began in Italy at the La Triennale di Milano Museum and then traveled to the Zitadelle Museum in Berlin in 2018.

These works will be on view with Casterline|Goodman Gallery at Expo Chicago, from September 27-30, at Navy Pier.
