It’’ s About Making A Living – It It It’’ s About The Lifestyle We’ve all heard it. Farming and Ranching isn’t just about making a living – It’s about the lifestyle. Here’s a thought. It’s a hell of a lot more fun having a lifestyle when it’s easier to make a living.

I could write the typical opening letter welcoming you to our sale to see a great pen of bulls with muscle, good hair, fleshing ability, fertility, feet, etc. but we strive to not be typical. What I can tell you is from experience we can help your lifestyle. For 44 years I’ve been at this and the cows have had to do their own thing more than we would sometimes like. Our cows have gotten us through a couple droughts, through a national cattle crisis, flooding, and even paid for my first divorce – but I don’t want this to sound like a country song! My truck didn’t break down and my dog never got hit by the train.

Our cows and this industry have allowed us to raise our family in a great environment. Now days everyone likes to tell their stories on social media. I can’t believe all the folks out there that still dread calving season. That’s the starting point of the lifestyle. Life happens, but here’s the deal.

Our cows work for us. We’ve had family health issues, we have kids in sports and various cattle activities. There’s more time that we’ve been away from home at critical times than we would like but our cows pull up the slack. That is a fact that I am extremely proud of and no EPD’s or numbers can promote that other than if you begin tracing back through our pedigrees and see generation after generation of home raised cattle that have proven to breed, calve and raise a robust calf that is profitable.

Our job is to raise genetics to make your life easier and more profitable. Through calving ease, calf vigour, fertility, maternal instincts, performance, quality, as well as disposition. We care about you and your lifestyle.

Please join our family March 14th when we will present our crop of bulls including yearling Black and Red Angus, one two year old Red Angus and our first home raised Black Simmental bulls. We are really excited about the depth of quality in this offering.

Following the sale will be our annual steak dinner and entertainment. The evenings festivities will be a little grander this year as we will be hosting a fundraising event for the Barrhead Cancer Clinic. The entertainment will be provided by none other than the 2019 ACMA nominated male singer and entertainer of the year Trevor Panczak. There will be a chance to win a heifer, $500, or even an autographed guitar as well as numerous silent auction items.

First number indicates the year, and the next number series is the tattoo.

All BCC bulls carry the 5 point star brand on the left shoulder, the BCC Brand of Quality. An individual freeze brand with their own number on their hip means no more reading tattoos when the bulls loose their ear tags!

Breeding Guarantee: All bulls are sound and right, selling with a responsible breeder guarantee of satisfaction. In the event of

any unlikely dispute, the regular terms and conditions, standard with the Canadian Angus Association shall apply. All complaints must be reported in writing by the buyer to the seller within 6 months and any animal returned must be free of disease and in good health.

Terms of Sale: 50% cash or cheque payable to Brandl Cattle Co. on sale day and a post dated cheque for the remaining 50% dated April 15, 2020 or pay the full amount at time of sale. No release will be given until satisfactory settlement has been made.

Using Yearling Bulls

We firmly believe in the use of yearling bulls and feel that it is one of the best years of their lives. It is a time when they are easy to manage and introduce to the herd and their only concern is breeding cows. When yearling bulls are managed appropriately they will perform better over time than bulls purchased as two- year-olds. Here are some guidelines for care of your yearling bulls:

• Upon arrival at your ranch, keep yearling bulls separate from older bulls and feed them a maintenance ration of 5 - 8 lbs of grain or pellets and free choice of hay. Then reduce the amount of grain so they are on straight hay or grass two weeks prior to turn out.

• Where possible try to limit the bulls to 45 - 60 days of pasture service the first year. At this time remove them and put them in a separate pasture with plenty of grass or good quality hay.

• A winter feeding ration of 3 - 5 lbs of grain or pellets plus free choice hay will put the bulls in condition and allow them to grow and develop. You will also benefit by one and probably two or more years of use out of a well-managed and healthy bull purchased as a yearling.

Elite Cows What makes an elite female?

Minimum of five calves, four of which must be registered, to determine her regularity of calving and ability to consistently produce calves with a superior weaning weight year after year, display early puberty, breeding and early calving, followed by regularity of calving and high performance offspring. The Canadian Angus Elite Cow Report identifies superior cows in the Canadian Angus herdbook.
