Our family welcomes you Welcome to the 16th annual Brandl Cattle Co. Bull Sale and our 42nd year of raising purebred Angus cattle. We have never been more enthused about the future of our industry and where we are headed over the next several years. Just like a good old Angus cow, things are sustainable and profitable.

We have always believed that functionality is key. A cow must work for us not us working for them. They must calve unassisted, nurture a calf, breed back on time, maintain herself and consistently go about her work in a seemingly invisible fashion for many years. We have always believed that superior quality and structural soundness is paramount.

There’s a lot of chatter out there about size and efficiency. A wise old Angus breeder once told me to stay middle of the road so that when the pendulum swings you can catch everyone on each swing.

With that said we are in an industry that gets paid by the pound. Profitability comes from achieving those extra pounds as effectively as possible.

You don’t need to spend much time at the auction mart to figure out there is a 25-30 cent spread on calves of the same weight depending on quality. Couple that with the spread of prices on weight and you can see a huge premium on quality calves that push the scale down. Our goal is to assist you in achieving those results.

Our family welcomes you to evaluate our cattle at any time. Each of us play an active role here and are passionate about our cattle and our business.

Once again we will have an excellent set of open commercial Angus cross replacement females for sale from some of our top customers. These will sell in groups of 5. This is an opportunity to tap into some of the premium Angus heifers that will be available this spring.

Join us March 10th to appraise our Angus bulls. They will be athletic, sound structured, good haired bulls with a good disposition and ready to go to work. Please stay following the sale to enjoy some hospitality. The customer appreciation steak supper will be followed by entertainment from “Phillip Hofer” and “Dylan Hansen”. As always it will be a fun and entertaining event.

Bull Delivery Options

Option 1 - Immediate Pick-Up

Possession within 3 days will get a $100 refund per bull.

Option 2 - Delivery

Brandl Cattle Co. will deliver bulls free of charge at our convenience following the sale. Farther than 500 KM of Jarvie will be at cost.

Option 3 - Development

Yearling bulls can be left at Brandl Cattle Co. after the sale at the buyers’ risk for no charge. After April 15 a charge of $3.00/ day until buyer wishes to transport their own bulls. Insurance is recommended.

BCC Freeze Brand Number

All BCC bulls carry the 5 point star brand on the left shoulder, the BCC Brand of Quality. An individual freeze brand with their own number on their hip means no more reading tattoos when the bulls loose their ear tags!

First number indicates the year, and the next number series is the tattoo.

Example: Born in 2017 with the tattoo 117.

Using Yearling Bulls

We firmly believe in the use of yearling bulls and feel that it is one of the best years of their lives. It is a time when they are easy to manage and introduce to the herd and their only concern is breeding cows. When yearling bulls are managed appropriately they will perform better over time than bulls purchased as two- year-olds. Here are some guidelines for care of your yearling bulls:

• Upon arrival at your ranch, keep yearling bulls separate from older bulls and feed them a maintenance ration of 5 - 8 lbs of grain or pellets and free choice of hay. Then reduce the amount of grain so they are on straight hay or grass two weeks prior to turn out.

• Where possible try to limit the bulls to 45 - 60 days of pasture service the first year. At this time remove them and put them in a separate pasture with plenty of grass or good quality hay.

• A winter feeding ration of 3 - 5 lbs of grain or pellets plus free choice hay will put the bulls in condition and allow them to grow and develop. You will also benefit by one and probably two or more years of use out of a well-managed and healthy bull purchased as a yearling.

Canadian Angus Elite Cows

Minimum of five calves, four of which must be registered, to determine her regularity of calving and ability to consistently produce calves with a superior weaning weight year after year, display early puberty, breeding and early calving, followed by regularity of calving and high performance offspring. The Canadian Angus Elite Cow Report identifies superior cows in the Canadian Angus herdbook.

The Lewis bull is a true low birth weight specialist. All you need to calve out your heifers is a catcher’s mitt to stop them as they slide out! Longevity and fertility are bred into this bull. His 15-year-old dam is still in production here and is raising her 14th calf.

Option 2 - Delivery Brandl Cattle Co. will deliver bulls free of charge at our convenience following the sale. Farther than 500 KM of Jarvie will be at cost.

Option 3 - Development Yearling bulls can be left at Brandl Cattle Co. after the sale at the buyers’ risk for no charge. After April 15 a charge of $3.00/ day until buyer wishes to transport their own bulls. Insurance is recommended.
