A Fun and Enjoyable Business Welcome to the 15th Annual Brandl Cattle Co. Bull Sale and our 41st year of raising purebred Angus cattle and selling Angus bulls.

Since 1976 we’ve certainly experienced many things on this roller coaster of life in the cattle business. It is nice to be in a period of sustainable profitability as we look forward to the future of our industry.

We have always strived to maintain some difference to our competitors, whether it be pedigrees, or type, or breeding philosophies.

It is with these thoughts that I devised a little visual graphic the other day.

I have always believed that the core strength of the Angus breed is our strong females. Angus is a maternal breed. From that we have cattle that are bred for calving ease, some for performance, and some for muscle and carcass quality. Some Angus cattle will overlap and excel in more than one, or all, of these qualities, but they should all have maternal strength. Every Angus bull should have the capability of leaving you females with fertility, longevity, good feet and udders, and the will to wean a healthy calf year after year, while maintaining a good disposition.

This time of year as I read through the multitude of sale catalogues in the mailbox I can’t help but notice the herds that say they are #1 at calving ease or #1 for growth, or carcass traits. I’m not quite sure how or who determines these rankings. To my knowledge I don’t think that evaluator has ever been here. The best evaluation comes from the 41 years of listening to our customers and enjoying the repeat business that keeps our bills paid around here.

We welcome your appraisal of our cattle. This is a fun and enjoyable business to be in. As a family we like that our cattle work for us and not us working for them. We would like the opportunity to show you how our cattle will work for you.

This year we will also be featuring an outstanding set of commercial Angus Cross females from several of our bull customers.

These will sell in groups of five.

Join us March 11th as we will present a group of Angus bulls that are athletic, good haired and ready to go to work. Come for the bulls, but please stay for the hospitality afterwards. We will host a customer appreciation steak supper followed by entertainment and dance featuring “Dylan Hansen” as well as “Kailey Brandl” and possibly the “Brandl Band “??!!! It promises to be a fun and entertaining event.

We would like you to attend our sale, but if you cannot, Byron or any of our sales staff can personally handle your purchase. Call them with your specifications and discuss the offering, preferably a week before the sale. Byron or any of the sales staff will gladly assist you with your sale selections and represent you on sale day. We guarantee full satisfaction upon delivery or you don’t own them.

Brandl Cattle Co. will deliver bulls free of charge at our convenience following the sale. Farther than 500 KM of Jarvie will be at cost.

Option 3 - Development

Yearling bulls can be left at Brandl Cattle Co. after the sale at the buyers’ risk for no charge. After April 15 a charge of $3.00/ day until buyer wishes to transport their own bulls. Insurance is recommended.

Note: All bulls 2 years and older must be in buyers possession by March 25th.

BCC Freeze Brand Number

All BCC bulls carry the 5 point star brand on the left shoulder, the BCC Brand of Quality. An individual freeze brand with their own number on their hip means no more reading tattoos when the bulls loose their ear tags!

First number indicates the year, and the next number series is the tattoo.

Example: Born in 2016 with the tattoo 33.

Yearling Bull Herd Health Protocol

Using Yearling Bulls

We firmly believe in the use of yearling bulls and feel that it is one of the best years of their lives. It is a time when they are easy to manage and introduce to the herd and their only concern is breeding cows. When yearling bulls are managed appropriately they will perform better over time than bulls purchased as two- year-olds. Here are some guidelines for care of your yearling bulls:

• Upon arrival at your ranch, keep yearling bulls separate from older bulls and feed them a maintenance ration of 5 - 8 lbs of grain or pellets and free choice of hay. Then reduce the amount of grain so they are on straight hay or grass two weeks prior to turn out.

• Where possible try to limit the bulls to 45 - 60 days of pasture service the first year. At this time remove them and put them in a separate pasture with plenty of grass or good quality hay.

• A winter feeding ration of 3 - 5 lbs of grain or pellets plus free choice hay will put the bulls in condition and allow them to grow and develop. You will also benefit by one and probably two or more years of use out of a well-managed and healthy bull purchased as a yearling.

Canadian Angus Elite Cows

Minimum of five calves, four of which must be registered, to determine her regularity of calving and ability to consistently produce calves with a superior weaning weight year after year, display early puberty, breeding and early calving, followed by regularity of calving and high performance offspring. The Canadian Angus Elite Cow Report identifies superior cows in the Canadian Angus herdbook.
