Greetings from all of us here at Anchor 1 Angus Hello once again friends, fellow cattlemen, valued customers and welcome to our 14th annual bull production sale. The past year has been tough on everyone facing the global pandemic, having rules put in place forcing us to stay in our homes and not shake hands with friends, neighbors and new acquaintances, as well as keeping families from coming together at Christmas time and for other special occasions. This is certainly not the lifestyle we, as cattle producers, are accustomed to. On top of all of this craziness, we still have to deal with the day-to-day challenges of taking care of our livestock, looking after our loved ones and sometimes saying goodbye to the ones we loved so dearly. As many of you already know, our father Ralph Geinger passed away in August of last year, just 1-month short of his 61st birthday. Ralph was an astute cattleman, who took great pride in our operation. For 13 years my father Ralph has written this very same welcome to all of you, and now with tears in my eyes and sorrow in my heart, I know I have big shoes to fill. What helps me get through each day is knowing that “The Big Guy”, my Idol, is up there having a cold beer, watching Shane feed the yearling bulls with Gunner sitting on a pail in the tractor cab, thinking, “That’s one hell of a pen of bulls, boys” and “Look at the ass on that son of a bitch”! Ralph cherished the relationships we built with our customers over the years and always looked forward to meeting ambitious new cattlemen that showed an interest in our program. We shared a passion for selecting the right bulls to walk our pastures, and semen packages to purchase for each new breeding season that in time has helped strengthen our cow herd. Dad always said he was very proud of the direction our herd was headed, and we truly believe the pen of bulls we have on offer this year for you, our customers, will stand behind his statement. As always, our 2021 sale bulls were selected for calving ease, correctness, marketability and very strong maternal qualities. Our bulls are fed to perform well on pasture, with their physical health and body structure as a top priority. They have not been overfed, but fed to stand the test of time. We have a wide selection of exciting new bloodlines on offer in both our black and red angus programs, as well as continually proven breed enhancing genetics. Our cowherd consists of 420 highly productive, extremely functional, registered Angus cows both red and black. Through careful herd bull selection and nearly a decade and a half of vigorous culling protocol, we now have a herd that is very easy to maintain and we feel each and every cow family is making important contributions to the overall production of our calf crop. We are very proud of our momma cows and would be happy to show them to you at your convenience. After much thought, and positive feedback from last year’s customers we have decided to run another live online bull sale this year, broadcasted by the DLMS crew. This is a very easy to use bidding system that gives everyone equal opportunity to bid on the bulls from the comfort of their own homes. We will also be hosting a 2-day open house at our farm with the bulls penned up in smaller uniform groups for easy viewing. The sale lots will be on display April 8, 2021 and April 9, 2021 from 11am-7pm. Extra catalogues, current weight and scrotal sheets as well as the sale order will be available at the bullpens on these days. If the online bidding is something you are not comfortable with, please contact us in advance to make alternative bidding arrangements. “Who’s That” was a promising young herd bull that we sold a few years back to the good folks at K-C Stock Farm. 9C bred cows for the Dodgson’s for 3 years with great success leaving them with a beautiful group of productive females. Dale liked the bull so much that he convinced me to make a trade for some heifers to get him back home. Standing on perfect foot structure and still strutting around our herd sire pen with swag at 6 years old we are sure glad that we got the opportunity to use him here as well. With much of the same results in our herd Who’s That, is siring big topped, easy doing bulls with solid structure and maturity, as well as beautiful females that will be impressive producers as time goes on. Purchased “in dam” with our last purchase of females from Hamiltons we used him here at Anchor 1 for the tremendous female traits in his pedigree. “PTO” is a bull that we did not know a whole lot about when Kevin Blair sent me a text msg asking if we wanted in on 1 of the 1st packages of semen. We did know However, that he had an outstanding pedigree and the phenotype to go with it. After a little further research and a phone call to Kevin we found out this bull was really starting to create a name for himself around the world in the show ring. “Merlot” is a newly acquired herd bull that we purchased in the spring of 2019 at the highly anticipated, U2 Ranch annual bull production sale. We chose Merlot out of that very strong set of bulls because of his stacked pedigree, outstanding performance data and overall structure and attraction. Since then, we have had the chance to admire him breeding cows in our pastures for 2 years. With 2 calf crops now on the ground and several of his last year born bull calves in our bull sale offering this year we are now certain that he was the breeding piece we were searching for. Kodiak 86E is the last bull calf raised by probably our highest $ accumulating red angus cow to date Red Crowfoot Stretch 4320P. We bred her this way late in life because we were hoping for a son that was made right to carry on her legacy and breed maternal greatness into our herd long after her time. “I’ll be dammed” if the stars didn’t a line right in front of our eyes with 86E. Kodiak 86E is a big bodied, deep sided, hairy rascal with tremendous eye appeal. Having ample impressive bull power hanging around the last 2 years we have not used him for much more than a cleanup bull until this year and even almost sold him a few times over the past couple years. Now that he is maturing, we couldn’t be happier that he is still here because this year he bred 50ish cows and his calves will “Blow Your Hair Back” all displaying consistent uniformity, low birthweight and outstanding growth potential. The maternal quality in the females 86E and his sons leave behind will have the potential to take any operation to another level of production.

This guy is the definition of a high performance calving ease herd sire. 53D is an attractive dark red bull that stands on a very solid set of feet. His offspring have great length as well as natural thickness and they profile as good as any in our pen. His sire Red Brylor Red Kodiak 3A is a bull that made significant improvements in our red herd in a very short time and we strongly believe a son from 53D could help further improve your programs as well. His dam 3Y is a model Red Angus Cow and you will want to hold on to as many daughter’s as possible if you purchase a 53D son. Kodiak 53D is going to be a key building tool for us in the years to come.
Special Blend was the high selling Red Angus bull in the 2017 Wilbar Cattle Co. “Tools of the Trade” bull sale. “SB” offered us fresh exciting genetics but what made us want to chase him to the end was his undeniable attraction, strong calving ease features and impressive growth credentials. Incredibly stylish, high performance calving ease herd bull. Sired by our most highly regarded Black Angus herd sire Thor 42A and raised by a gorgeous, functionally correct Red Angus female. Thor 29D was retained back into our herd not only for his own strong qualities but also as a portal to introduce Thor’s proven bloodline into our Red Angus program. The outcome is exactly what we had hoped for; He is siring red hided calves with the same style, thickness and fantastic disposition that we have admired over the years in our black program. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. BID Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. DISPUTES In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final. PURCHASER’S RISK Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable time. ANNOUNCEMENTS from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautionedto pay attention to any such announcements. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY The proper Registration or Recordation paper, as the case may be, will be duly transferred and furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement has been made. SHIPPING Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale but no risk is assumed by Sales Management or Seller. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instructions when making settlement. GUARANTEE All animals will carry standard breeding guarantee as specified by the Canadian Angus Association. In Loving Memory
September 10, 1959
We never expected that we would have to say goodbye to our loving father, grandfather, husband, and son so soon in life, but on August 15th, 2020, Ralph William Geinger passed away after losing a hard fought battle with his heart. When we lost dad, one of our mentors and a huge part of our farming operation was gone and an overwhelming workload still remained. Our family was incredibly blessed and so appreciative of the heartfelt love and support we received from our extended family, friends and our community. We were very thankful to Mark Shologan and thought it was quite fitting and special that dad’s service could be viewed on cattle vids, the very same place our bull sale videos are viewed each year. While getting prepared for the day, one of our dearest friends described the online gathering as “The grand champion bull’s final auction”. As we move forward, we’d like to honor him and pay tribute to a life well lived as we continue to build his dream and work in the industry that he loved, on the farm that meant so much to him. Ralph was born on September 10, 1959 and raised along with his sister Linda, by their loving parents Frank and Fern Geinger. As a child, he was easy to raise, and he never caused much grief for his parents. Right from the time, he was old enough to walk, Ralph was interested in farming and spent an awful lot of time outside with his own dad and his grandpa Bill watching, asking lots of questions and learning. His love of learning continued throughout his school years, as he strove for perfect attendance and top marks, which would eventually earn him the honor of being the class valedictorian. He attended school in Mayerthorpe and went on to study agriculture at Olds College, but after only one year he decided he’d already been taught everything he needed to know about farming from his own father and grandfather so he chose to stay home and work on the family farm where he could be closer to the woman that he loved. Ralph married Karen, his highschool sweetheart, on October 25th, of 1980. They were married in the United Church in front of their friends and family and shared 40 wonderful years together. Shortly after marrying, they began a family of their own. Over the years they were blessed with four children, Amanda, Kevin, Kyle and Tenielle. Ralph enjoyed watching his kids grow and shared many of his favorite hobbies with them. Aside from his family and farming, Ralph had a few other loves. He was in a couple of different bands over the years. As a child he played the accordion in a band called the Country Kids. They knew five songs and enjoyed playing at local dances. In the early 1980s Ralph started a band called White Line. This venture brought some great friends into his life and although things were busy with farming and raising young kids, we will never forget the joy in dad’s voice when he spoke of those years. Another of dad’s most beloved hobbies was curling. He watched his parents curl from a young age and was intrigued by the sport. He began curling in high school and spoke fondly of the memories he made with his teammates. After he graduated, curling became a pastime that Ralph and Karen enjoyed together, and later on,

Kevin and Kyle were fortunate to curl with him as well. They remember many laughs created by Ralph, upstairs in the Mayerthorpe Curling Rink. Last but not least, growing up, we heard many stories about his fastball days, the ball, the boys and the fun times they had. Dad’s eyes lit up every time he talked about his old team and many of the best times of his life were had with those guys. After fastball ended, Ralph and Karen got into slow pitch. It was great because it was something they could do together with other couples; Ralph did not enjoy the ball quite as much, but the company was just as good. No matter where dad was or what he was doing, he always surrounded himself with good people. A family friend, Darla Masterson, sent a message shortly after his passing that made all of us smile and cry at the same time. She said that whenever there was an event somewhere, everyone wanted to get near to where he was sitting as you were always guaranteed a great time with full on belly laughs. We think that truly describes our dad. Ralph’s grandchildren brought so much joy into his life. They meant the world to him and all of them loved him so much. His favorite thing to do was cuddle up with as many of them as he could on his chair. No matter how tired or sore he was after a day of work, he still put everything he had left into showing his grandkids how much he loved them. We wish that they could have had more time with him. Being a third generation farmer, it was never just a job to Ralph, it was a way of life and he loved it. Dad’s truest passion besides family and friends was farming. He is often found watching it and we wanted to share a last thought from our dad with you that we feel really sums up how he felt about farming and how proud he was of Anchor 1 Angus. “The simple things we get to bare witness to every day like the magic of a baby calf being born, his mother’s instant affection for him and his jubilation at discovering that first teat as his tail waves rhythmically in the air with every swallow or just seeing those older calves take off at a 100 miles an hour across the pen on a beautiful sunny winter’s day. I know grain farmers often comment on how they love watching their crops grow and mature throughout the summer but for me that’s a little akin to watching paint dry. For me, as well as I’m sure for many of you, watching those baby calves running and playing, growing and developing especially if you take one of these Anchor 1 bulls home to work your pastures this summer, (just a little plug there), is what it’s really all about and is always the highlight of my day. I’m excited about the bulls we have for offer this year, probably some of the best ever and even more excited about the direction our herd is heading.”
