I was an exceedingly quiet kid. Born in rural Northern California , I spent most of my childhood in my own imagination, creating stories and universes that existed only in my mind. I never would have guessed I would grow up to be outgoing, and deďŹ nitely never that I would pursue a career where I got the chance to use that imagination and those universes to alter the real world around me.

I believe that architecture is, ďŹ rst and foremost, for people. It is to shelter us, to inspire us, and to serve us. It is the intersection of creativity and pragmatism. I believe that buildings should work with their surroundings to create beautiful, liquid spaces that are both elegant to inhabit and capable of sustainably resisting the test of time.

STUDIO WORK
UNCAGED SANCTUARY SITE SUMMER 2018 LOCATION Tuscany, Italy Uncaged is an organization working on combating sex trafďŹ cking on a global scale. Their Sanctuary Site aims to provide trauma therapy, education, and life skills to help rehabilitate survivors back into everyday life. A circular plan was chosen as conceptually it is all-inclusive and protective. Functionally the circle wraps the site and pulls each dwelling towards one another. There are four primary axes off of which is one Stage 1 complex and three clusters of Stage 2 cottages. Four secondary axes provide support services. Layers of social spaces and sizes all focus inwards to allow self-reection and a sense of community, while numerous elements spiral within the circle to provide a sense of unity. Both a connection to nature and designated quiet places serve as therapeutic elements to survivors on a path to recovery. IN COLLABORATION WITH Zach Sherrod, Intern Coact Designworks

The University of Oregon currently has a sizable architecture program that focuses on collaboration, sustainability, and ingenuity. A new building for the department should encompass these beliefs. A central core shifts apart from two wings to allow for a large courtyard and for light to penetrate the core spaces. On the Western side the building it has a photo-voltaic sunscreen as well as a water catchment system that drains into bioswales in the courtyard. The two wings house support services and communal spaces while the core houses classrooms and studio space. All the studios are in groups that open up to one another, easily facilitating collaboration.

The building also pulls back from the street and pushes back the parking lot to create a more pedestrian friendly entry to campus. With bike lanes and a double tree arcade it aims to create a pedestrian thoroughfare for the South edge of campus.

BILDing Hope WINTER 2018 LOCATION Eugene, OR The OregonBILDS program is a design/build studio that offers students the opportunity to design a low-income single family home and to follow it through to ďŹ nal construction documents and permitting. Although the studio ends up designing only one home, each student initially presents their own idea both as individuals and groups. This concept aimed to lower the footprint of the building so as to allow greater room in the backyard and a possible future ADU should the family need to expand. It focused on creating warm, comfortable spaces for now and on longevity and adaptability for the long term.

SWISS PAVILION AT THE VENICE BIENNALE FALL 2017 LOCATION Venice, Italy
The Venice Biennale attracts thousands of tourists each year to view its outstanding art and architecture. At the Giardini venue stands dozens of different National pavilions, housing the art contributed for that year’s show by that country. The Swiss pavilion aims to capture the daring cut aways and cantilevers of Swiss architecture while also paying attention to careful details and delicate plays of light. It stands as a sculptural experience, a further iteration of the art housed within.
