8.6 Markets and marketing

The market share of solar and wind in global electricity generation grew at a compound average annual growth rate of 15% from 2015-2020. If 48

exponential growth continued at this rate, solar and wind would reach 45% of electricity generation by 2030 and 100% by 2033. Also, the global solar energy market which is our sector, was valued at $52.5 billion in 2018 and is projected to reach $223.3 billion by 2026, growing at a CAGR of 20.5% from 2019 to 2026. Solar energy is also very high in demand, in 2024 it is expected to total 152.5 gigawatts around the world. In 2020, the solar industry generated more than $25 billions of private investment in the American economy. This shows us that the solar industry is very large and continuously growing bigger in size, which of course lets us deduce that the market where we play in isn’t going to die.. And we as a European company are very lucky that Europe has dominated the Solar Energy market owing to the evolution of European solar policies and growing demand for grid solar panels installations across the UK, Germany, France and Spain. All this essential information also shows us that we have a lot of customers who are interested in renewable energy and would also like to help the environment. Solar customers want to save money and the environment. Today's consumers are more concerned about the environment than ever before. In fact, the primary motivators for going solar are saving energy and reducing environmental impact. Solar is becoming more prevalent as time goes on. The numbers show us that our customers are globally based and it isn’t difficult to find them, especially when we utilize our marketing strategy.

Research shows that there are 5 types of solar customers.

1)The Investment Consumer

This type of customer is looking for the best financial return on the investment he can get. He is entirely interested in the economic return they get from their system.

2)The Independent

The independent is more concerned about being in control of his own life above and beyond the economic or environmental savings that solar can offer.

3)The Environmentalist

The environmentalist has a great deal of concern for the environment and saving the planet. He knows the importance of a zero-emissions system that is non-polluting. He also cares that electricity generated by solar panels replaces the one which is created through the burning of fossil fuels. It isn’t weird that these are the most common type of customers for our sector. Easy financial gains with this kind of customers.

4)The Technologist

The technologist is computer savvy, highly technical, and wants the newest gadgets. He wants the most high-tech solution available and she is willing to a pay a premium for the best.

5) The Solar Enthusiast

The solar enthusiast knows more about solar technology than the average solar consultant. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of solar products, installation, and the latest news. In short, he is an afficionado of all things solar.

We can now clearly conclude that there isn’t a lack of customers and there is even in fact a high demand for the solar panels that we produce. Customers mostly buy our products and demand our service around the autumn/winter period.

Our competition are predominantly Asian solar panel manufacturers, mainly Chinese and Thai companies in this sector, who can produce this in a much cheaper way. They are able to do that by having much cheaper labor force. But in most cases their labor force is in very bad conditioning for the workers, this is a factor we can
