An Insight Into The Past

Founded in 1867, Our magazine was one of the first fashion publications for women. Fletcher Harper the founder was very fond on expressing her politics views through the use of the magazine. Harpers Bazaar regularly ran articles on the importance of women working and education for women. the publications always supported the womens suffrage efforts (Harpersbazaar, 2016). Thankfully, all of Harpers politic views came to light in modern day. Im sure she would have been happy to see it.

Harpers Bazaar never just focussed on the clothes they were also writing about cashmeres, spices, perfumes, silks and gems. Fahion to them was anything that could “comfort the heart and delight the eye”. There was articles on fiction, poetry, family and work. this magazine wasnt just for the materialistic women of the 20th century it was for all the women who wanted their own independance and a voice for themselves.

The cover doesnt include any photography just a drawing of a woman. Bazaar has come a long way since these days and have followed the womens rights movement till this very day.
