CASCADES ACADEMY | 2022 - 23 ANNUAL REPORT 1 2022-23 ANNUAL REPORT

Dear Friends,

What a joy it was to celebrate our 20th Anniversary! Reuniting our incredible community of alumni, families, and friends brought back two decades of collective memories. At events throughout the school year, friendships were forged and rekindled. It was profoundly rewarding to reflect on how far we’ve come.

So many of you made gifts to honor this milestone year. Because of your generosity, we can enhance the student experience well beyond what’s possible with only tuition dollars. An impressive 21% of last year’s budget came from your philanthropy.

One of the brightest spots of our giving report is our bump in giving participation. 91% of our current families made a gift, while 100% of our faculty, staff, and Board of Trustees gave. That overwhelming vote of confidence in our mission, coming from the people who know us best, means as much to school leadership as the largest gifts we receive.

Thanks to your support, we fulfilled our objectives for the year. We continued to grow our commitment to a diverse student body. Tuition assistance allowed 28% of our students to attend Cascades Academy – a higher-than-average ratio for independent schools nationwide. And as we grow and diversify, we double-down on our commitment to cultivating a sense of belonging for every single child.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we sincerely thank you for caring enough to support our school’s mission and vision. You’ve set a strong foundation for our next 20 years.

With sincere gratitude,

LEAVING A LEGACY

With a career spanning over four decades in education, Blair Jenkins has made an indelible impact on the lives of countless students and educators. After serving as the Head of School at Cascades Academy from 2009 to 2016, she has continued her commitment to its community by joining its Board of Trustees. Now, she is forging a lasting legacy with a generous bequest in her will, a provision that designates a donation to be given to the school after her death, aiming to support its mission for years to come.

For Blair and her husband, Steve, the decision to make a bequest to Cascades Academy was natural. With no children of their own, they saw an opportunity to invest in an institution they sincerely believe in and one that holds a special place in their hearts. Blair explains that of all the institutions she’s worked in, “Cascades Academy is the school in which we believe the most. We feel our gift can have the largest impact there.”

Blair’s ultimate hope is that this transformational gift will enable the school to further cultivate its strong academic community, attracting students and teachers who love the institution as much as she and Steve do and who will carry its values wherever they may go. She envisions a world made better by the caring, climate-conscious, and positively engaged individuals nurtured by Cascades Academy.

Recalling her time at the school, Blair’s memories are filled with the faces of happy, active, and engaged students and teachers. She cherishes the positive and caring

learning environment that fosters growth and development. “The teachers know they not only teach a subject but help individual students grow into adolescents and adults who will contribute positively to their communities,” she remarks.

Blair’s deep respect for current Head of School Julie Amberg’s leadership and the unwavering support of the Board further solidified her decision to make the generous donation. Her confidence in the school being in excellent and capable hands adds to her assurance of its bright and promising future.

Through her legacy, Blair Jenkins exemplifies the true spirit of philanthropy. Her generosity will continue to shape the lives of future students, teachers, and communities, exemplifying the profound impact a single gift can have on shaping the world for the better.
