Congratulations to our Newest Air Quality Professionals (CAQP)
To mark Australia’s and New Zealand’s National Volunteer weeks, CASANZ recently said thank you to many of our society volunteers with shout-outs on Linkedin and in our newsletter. These were just some of the few of our hundreds of volunteers who work together to make our society a special place for our air quality professionals.
Finally, our climate change SIG was re-invigorated in June this year. Well done to our Climate Change SIG Chair Alida van Vugt for taking on the position and empowering our enthusiastic SIG committee members to bring climate change impacts back into CASANZ in a focused way. The SIG was launched through an online event held on 6 June which tackled the topic – exploring the interconnectedness between air quality and climate change. Thank you to our speakers and audience that contributed to meaningful discussions on the day. Although climate change has certainly been an important issue for some time, it feels like we are currently in a time in history where more changes than ever are starting to be made in both government and societal spheres. Of note, the NSW Government recently announced a new Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions target for NSW being a 70% reduction on 2005 levels by 2035. It’s amazing to see more and more of our members being intricately involved in understanding the connections between air quality and climate change and paving a way forward for important changes in policy and societal behaviours. I’m certainly looking forward to hearing about the important work that is being done at our next conference.
