y now the Spring season is ending and everyone, enthusiastic and inpatient, is waiting for the arrival of Summer! Taking inspiration from the proposals presented during New York Fashion Week, under the guidance of the experts of the Pantone Color Institute, we reveal the latest Spring Design Trends that will however be perfect to accompany you in the first Summer months. In our selection (starting on page 16), you will find both the more muted colors that convey us a sense of comfort and safety and the new dynamic shades to express our creative side.

Always staying on the other side of the ocean, there is an interesting preview on pages 46-51 that deals with the New York fair, ICFF - a "must visit" for all fans of contemporary original and sustainable furniture design.

Lastly, a series of residential projects where each offers a wide range of design ideas for your new works. From a Scandinavian-style apartment (page 58) to a minimalist house (page 70) to a trendy penthouse (page 100).

For today’s women The Room Studio presents its latest project - Juno House, a female members' club. The creaDve concept and its development were presented in two months. It required the designers to be very strict in defining the programme of use, in a totally empty space, with a specific volumetry, and which maintained the sensiDvity and soKness that the brand wanted to transmit. The Nave and the Farinera are two spaces with different needs but balanced and with the same aestheDc language. NEST Ukrainian designers Yana Machukayte and Aleksandra Smirnova from Amici Buro designed the first floor apartment with Scandinavian style accents in the port city of Gdansk, northern Poland.

T

he original structure of the apartment has been maintained as it satisfied the needs of the clients. It can be divided into three areas: the living area located in the center of the house where the family spends time together, a wing consisting of the parents’ and daughters' bedrooms, and an opposite wing with the boy's nest.

The design of the whole apartment is very clean characterised by the white color that forms the largest and brightest spaces, by the use of wood that gives a cozy touch, and the presence of plants - essential for a sense of vitality.

At the entrance the designers have positioned a white wooden console, a round mirror but all the attention is turned to a comfortable pouf whose interior acts as a mini closet for various objects. Next to it, a wardrobe has been placed to store outerwear and accessories.

On the left, we immediately find a cosy living room designed in Scandinavian style.

The walls are white except one which has been painted a deep gray and framed by wooden beams. Together with the adjacent modern fireplace it creates the atmosphere of a country house. As for the upholstery, the designers opted for a white lounge chaise and two sofas in gray colors that perfectly match with the geometric carpet below. Their light wood finishes highlight those of the round coffee table.

Next to it, there is the dining area by the minimalist design: the dining table and chairs - all with simple shapes.

A large window floods the entire space with natural light, so the only lamps we find are essentially decorative ones.

The living area is completed with the kitchen bordered by wooden beams; they were also chosen as a decorative element.

wall was created to position the kitchen columns with integrated appliances to give more space to the worktop. To give a more eccentric touch, a couple of pendant lamps and kitchen utensils, in brass, have been placed.

In the master bedroom, the designers accentuated the window opening with a brick finish. While everything else is a white sheet with lush stains of wood, greenery, terracotta and cosy rattan fabrics. The lampshade creates very suggestive light patterns on the walls.

The walk-in closet is next door and was the most functional room according to the designers as they combined the workplace with a dressing room.

In the master bathroom for the parents, a large worktop has been placed over two sinks. While a combination of concrete and patchwork finish tiles was used as an ornamental element. Despite the dark colors desired by the customers, the bathroom is very welcoming thanks to the use of wood.

Next to the main area, we also find the children's room for the girls. The designers divided the room into work, rest and play areas. The desk was developed to allow them to study while a large closet serves

for storage. In the center of the room is a hanging swing that the girls wanted so much. A double bed with cherry-colored steps and polka dot wallpapers complete the interior of the room.

Even the boy's bedroom has the same subdivision as that of the girls: the work, rest and play areas. The workspace is connected to the wardrobe and seating area. On the side of the desk are open shelves for textbooks. The bed extends over the edge of the wall. Shelves from the bedside table and closed containers from the corridor have been added for compositional balance. In addition, the space above the door was used to store the mezzanine. By combining the entire room in color, the designers highlighted the Swedish wall with a durable paint to protect the surface from damage during operation.

In this part of the house, there is the main bathroom with a washbasin and a mirror with raw leather. Here too we opted for porcelain stoneware with a concrete finish and tiles with a wood finish (in the shower area, the herringbone finish to highlight it).

rom the street, the house has a discreet, modest presence and passers-by see little more than a slatted timber fence. Through the front door with its protruding and recessed panels, as you

enter and descend into the living spaces.

Floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors embrace the view over the city towards the ocean and let in abundant natural light.

OKHA decided to embrace the contrast and harness this spirit of place. That idea of ‘slow time’ is the golden thread that brings together every interior decision in this house. OKHA rigorously pared back the detail and dialed down the colours of the interior to create a refined minimalist setting.

This leads to a large living area consisting of a kitchen, dining area and two lounges, one of which is formal. The walls are white, and pale oak has been used throughout for the floors, cabinetry and screens. Whatever colour there is comes from the natural materials. Apart from the timber, OKHA’s choice of stone, such as the leathered Spanish Nero Marquina marble around the fireplace or the waxed steel used in some of the furnishings, retains a rawness that expresses their natural materiality. These raw, textured finishes have been chosen because they absorb and soften the abundant natural light, creating a soothing atmosphere. Perhaps the most important animating feature of the house and the element OKHA responded to most profoundly in this project is the natural light that filters into the interiors.

When the light falls on the internal volumes, you get beautiful modelling and shaping of the internal space - with that in mind, OKHA has created strong sculptural forms and clever detailing that catches the light. The play of light gives form enhanced definition and impact. The extensive use of fluted plastering, for example, creates patterns of light and shadow, and the sculpted, geometric forms, around the fireplace allow the light to become an active agent in modelling and expressing shape.

This approach inspired a design language of solid and void in several of the interior architecture details and bespoke furnishings in which the voids become features in themselves. This is evident in the design of features such as the timber screens and in key items of furniture, such as the Void Barstools in the kitchen.

The sliding screens are clearly stylistically Japanese and add versatility to the openplan layout, they open up and close down spaces, allowing rooms to expand and contract, becoming expansive or intimate as required. For example, the perimeter of the house can open up to an internal courtyard on one side and city and sea scape views on the other.

In the same way, also in the master bedroom, large timber pocket doors can disappear entirely, another instance of the essential duality at the heart of this home’s character.

Here, the notion of multifunctionality is included in the bespoke, built-in furnishings like the bed

units that combine the functions of bed, desk and side table. More than furnishings, however, they are installations that define the whole room. As the room, also the adjacent master bathroom enjoys an elegant design and a breathtaking view of the city.

T

he original apartment had first housed three students, each with their own room and a common space which was shared. Sometime between then and now they outgrew their living arrangement, which meant that the place needed to be reimagined as to best express this new stage and the needs of the young woman who is left as its current only resident.

Functionally, the designers firstly needed to assign new programs for the three previous bedrooms.

They were transformed both in purpose as in size.

By reshaping the formerly rectangular entrance hallway into a zig-zag space, the first room was made smaller and named the study and an occasional guest room with a pull-out sofa bed.

The second room was divided into two spaces - the utility is accessible from the hallway and the walk-in wardrobe (now, it's connected to the biggest room - the new master bedroom).

The rest of the apartment has been made into a fluid open space, revealing new views from each new standpoint. From a closed rectangular space, the slightly diagonal hallway now leads you towards the light coming from the living space and when you turn the corner, the living room appears in all its colors, leaving the kitchen and the dining space to be fully seen only from the other end of the room.

Apart from the efforts of the designers of fulfilling all the client's functional and storage needs, it was crucial that the vibe of the refurbished apartment also reflected the unique and daring style of the client.

Together with her, the designers delved into colors, explored different pattern options and aimed at forming an interesting and clear graphic composition, which could be read throughout the apartment. In some aspects, the design is bold and saturated, and in others it is balanced out by minimalist whiteness and sharp details.

In the kitchen the black and white checkerboard pattern gives depth to the juxtaposing colors. This pattern appears also in different rooms of the apartment like in the floor tiles by the entrance, in the midst of bathroom tile patterns or on the headboard in the bedroom.

The style of the apartment is thus quite

eclectic, ranging from minimalism to Memphis style, accompanied by some modernist pieces. Being well educated and interested in the feminist movement, the client was also a perfect fit with a wellknown local artist Mina Fina, who is the author of the two impactful graphic prints in the living room.

JUMA architects designed a house on a hill in the Flemish Ardennes, Belgium which offers the landscape view to the north and the relaxation area with the swimming pool in complete privacy to the south.

he north side of the plot offers stunning views of the surrounding fields with picturesque church towers in the distance. In contrast with this open setting, the infinity pool, set like a mirror in the terrace, calls for a southern orientation and protection from the elements. In response to these contextual factors, JUMA architects positioned the residential volume at a right angle to the street, in this way creating a connection between the 'north-south' axis.

At the level of the carport, the front façade has been opened up through the use of wooden slats which keeps this area from becoming too dark or somber. At the same time, it arouses curiosity as to what might lie behind it. This gives the house an inviting character, a place the whole family can enjoy coming home to. The theme of the wooden slats is also repeated in the volume of the first floor, and they also recur in pairs to support the concrete canopies.

The rather horizontal aspect of the house, as well as various elements such as the

black façade cladding in burnt wood, are intended to deflect the attention towards the surrounding nature. The motif of the wooden slats is continued in the concrete canopies and ceilings with wooden formwork that typifies this architecture.

The black theme is also reiterated in the driveway, which features a washed concrete slab with black pebbles. The floors of the terraces and living areas are laid in Ceppo, the colour of which closely matches the concrete look of the ceilings and canopies.

The interior is designed in light tone-ontone colours that harmonise with the architecture. Interior and exterior flow seamlessly into each other through the consistent use of a uniform colour palette.

The burnt wood cladding, for instance, is continued in the entrance area. The earthy, handmade tiles in combination with the woven cabinet doors of the cloakroom immediately set the tone.

From the entrance, a long corridor begins which leads up to the master bedroom; walking along it on the left there are a series of French windows while on the right there are the living areas: the dining room, the kitchen and the living room. The ambiances are separated by the walls but there are no doors - this allows you to move smoothly from one space to another.

In the dining area, a light tadelakt has been applied to the walls. The same technique is reflected in the table by Armand & Francine that stands cosily on a handmade carpet designed by Carine Boxy.

In the kitchen, most of the bespoke cupboards have an oak veneer while the kitchen worktop is beautifully finished in sandblasted Travertine. Besides, when weather conditions allow, the sliding windows on both sides of this volume can be opened up completely, blurring the boundary between interior and exterior.

Outside, the terrace on the north side is covered and has a wood-burning stove - it makes possible to enjoy the vast surroundings almost all year round.

A refined design continues in the living room. A custom-made industrial-style bookcase blends perfectly with the black of the window recesses and the lighting finishes. These straight lines blend together with the round shapes present in the room: a dark glass coffee table, the semicircular table lamp, the conical base of a chair. A 96 | G&G _ Magazine

cosy sense is certainly brought by the lightcolored upholstery that convey a sense of softness.

The living room, like most of the ground floor rooms, overlooks the huge swimming pool. Here, a garden wall along it creates privacy and offers protection from the wind.

On the upper floor, there are three identical children's bedrooms with a shared bathroom. This makes this house a home to grow old in, since the upper floor can be closed off when the children have left their parental home.

The master bedroom with ensuite bathroom and dressing room offers the luxurious feeling of a hotel with its terrace that allows one to walk straight out for a splash in the pool.

The house features black accents throughout, except in the master bathroom. Here, JUMA architects opted for brass detailing, such as brass taps by Vola and brass accents around mirrors and lights.

fter years of living a busy life in the bustling city of Tel Aviv, this professional couple decided to make a life-style change by moving to a new city. Designer Oron Milstein was chosen to revamp their new property due to his renowned passion for the fashion scene, his endless creativity, and his out-of-the-box approach to creating luxurious, smart and homey apartments.

It's a mini-L-shaped penthouse apartment that takes up an entire floor and offers the breathtaking view of the endless ravishing green fields of Hod Hasharon. Originally a 6-room apartment, Oron Milstein decided to completely redesign the space creating 4 spacious rooms for the parents and their two children.

The entrance leads directly into a wideopen space that includes the living room, kitchen, and a spacious dining area. To complement this area and create a unique and seamless clean look, Milstein chose large Basaltina floor tiles that give the apartment an elegant dark-grey tone.

Milstein injected the kitchen space with a striking and unique feel by creating a broad Corian niche surrounded by storage cupboards.

The upper cupboards were painted in a deep graphite shade for a sophisticated look. The center of the kitchen contains an impressively large dining table, surrounded by funky upholstered chairs by Philippe Starck.

A closer look at these chairs reveals their unique print, portraying known cities from around the world.

Above the dining table hangs a light fixture that had been custom-made abroad. The constructed geometrical double light source hangs from the ceiling lighting up the space from two different angles.

In the center of the living room, located at the other end of the kitchen, is an aluminum-wave feature wall that imitates soft and airy drapes that are constantly in motion. A cosmic print rug by top designer Marcel Wanders, defines the center of the seating area on top of which sit two matching steel coffee tables net-style, and

two bubble-like sofas on each side that give the space its inviting feel. A gorilla shaped light fixture, imported from Italy, is the pièce de résistance of this living space and sets as ravishing evidence of both the designer's creativity and the couple’s openness and passion for design.

Also, there is a balcony that serves as an

alternative entertainment space for family and friends. With multiple lounging areas and luxurious fashionable accessories such as an elegant and comfortable chaise lounge, a tall table facing the view and a special purpose-built structure that adorns the wall with foliage reflecting the spirit of the owners’ profession.

The master bedroom contains a sizeable custom-made bed, upholstered in rich luxurious fabric designed by Jean-Paul Gautier. The internal wall is in fact a carpentry masterpiece and serves as a wardrobe closet with integral brass doorknobs. Two geometric textured nightstands, designed by Tom Dixon, are positioned on either side of the bed, and compliment this indulging room. As a finishing touch, hanging from the ceiling, are two unique light fixtures.

In front of the bed, without any door, there is the master bathroom which from one point of view seems to be a continuation of the bedroom while on the other, its area is delimited by the floor which is no longer in wood.

The children’s bedrooms are lovely and that include en-suites and walk-in wardrobes. The daughter chose a light and elegant shade palette, whereas the son opted for an urban-chic style, with darker and deeper tones.
