CASA DA ANIMAÇÃO is a cultural organization, created in 2001, dedicated to the promotion, in Portugal and abroad, of animated film, namely the Portuguese Animation, contributing to the development of a Culture of Animation.

It develops works in film screening, being the curator of different programs that are presented in Portugal; it develops educational activities, such as courses and workshops, and has a special educational service for students; it organizes meetings and conferences, helping to develop structured consciences and articulated speeches and theories on Animation field; it support the diffusion and the creation of animation cinema; and collaborates at the representation of portuguese animation professionals.

Casa da Animação also dedicates to give expression and structure to the important relationship between animation and the different art forms and cultural expressions, that participate in it.

Within its regular activities, it gives, annually, the Portuguese Animation Award, to honor and encourage the excellent work of Portuguese authors in the animation field.

The films selected for this award have the opportunity to be screen all around country

and abroad, namely for the International Animation DAY celebrations.

Casa da Animação promotes the International Animation Day (28 October 2016), an unique event that celebrates animated film all over the world, it takes place simultaneously in more than 40 countries and, in Portugal, in about 30 cities.

In Portugal, a city is elected, every year, to host the big event, becoming the National Animation Capital of the year. This event includes film screenings, meetings, masters, exhibitions, workshops and other activities specially directed to professionals, students and animation lovers.

It organises the event Illusion of Movement, a meeting that confronts approaches and ways of doing and watching animation, having for guests different specialists of the animation field.

Internationally, the main purpose of Casa da Animação is to introduce Portuguese Animation and contribute to open the doors of the international animation market to the works, projects and authors (through coproduction and distribution), but also to the Portuguese professionals and studios that participate in the construction of great animation works.

Promove a Festa Mundial da Animação, evento único a nível mundial de homenagem ao cinema de animação, que celebra o Dia Mundial da Animação, a 28 de Outubro de 2016, e se desenrola simultaneamente em mais de 40 países, e em Portugal, em cerca de 30 cidades. Em Portugal, todos os anos é eleita uma cidade que acolhe o grande evento, convertendo-se na Capital Nacional da Animação desse ano, que integra cinema, encontros, exposições, masters, oficinas e outras atividades especialmente dirigidas a profissionais, estudantes e aficionados pela magia do cinema.

Organiza a rubrica Ilusão de Movimento, um encontro entre abordagens e formas de fazer e ver animação, que traz a cena diferentes especialistas da área da animação.

Internacionalmente, a principal missão da Casa da Animação, é dar a conhecer a Animação Portuguesa e contribuir para que o mercado internacional da animação se abra, não só às obras, projetos e autores (através da coprodução e distribução), mas também aos profissionais e estúdios portugueses que participam na construção de trabalhos de animação de qualidade.

A CASA DA ANIMAÇÃO é uma instituição cultural dedicada à promoção, nacional e internacional, do cinema de animação, nomeadamente da Animação Portuguesa, e procura, desde a sua fundação em 2001, contribuir para o desenvolvimento de uma cultura da animação.

Desenvolve trabalho na área da exibição, sendo curador de diferentes programas que circulam pelo país; desenvolve ações de formação, cursos e oficinas, tendo um serviço educativo especialmente vocacionado para público em idade escolar; promove encontros e conferências, contribuindo para desenvolver consciências e discursos estruturados na área da animação; apoio a divulgação e a criação de cinema; e colabora na representação do setor.

Tem contribuído para dar expressão e forma à importante relação da animação com as diferentes formas de expressão artística e cultural.

Dentro da sua atividade regular, destaca-se a atribuição anual do Prémio Nacional da Animação, que vem homenagear e incentivar o excelente trabalho dos autores portuguesas na área da animação. Os filmes selecionados para este Prémio têm oportunidade de circular dentro e fora do país, nomeadamente

Uma casa são sempre muitas, sujeito particular e plural: lugar multiplicado em lugares, cenário de vida, contentor de memória do que foi, tela em branco do que poderia ser. A casa como uma máquina de habitar, engenho de sentidos e de tempos, de imagens.

A house are always many, particular and plural subject: a place multiplied in places, the scene of a life, a memory container of what was, a blank screen of what it could be. The house as a dwell machine, a machine of directions, times and images.

Catarina Romano graduated in traditional animation by CITEN of Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, leaded by Zepe and Nuno Beato.

She participated in the Gulbenkian Program of Creativity and Artistic Creation, on the Course of 3D Animation directed by SUPINFOCOM school. She worked as an animator on several author short films and animated series. This is her first short film.

A galloping history of the moving image.

Raquel Felgueiras, é licenciada em Pintura e tem uma pós-graduação em Desenho pela FBAUL. Em 2012 terminou o mestrado em Cinema de Animação na UWE, Bristol, do qual resulta o seu primeiro filme “Branco”. O filme foi selecionado para vários festivais internacionais e recebeu o prémio “Jovem Cineasta Português” no CINANIMA 2012. Trabalha atualmente em animação e ilustração e tem exposto o seu trabalho artístico, que inclui desenho e vídeo, entre Portugal e Inglaterra.

Raquel Felgueiras has a degree in painting and a postgraduate degree in Design from FBAUL. In 2012 she completed a Masters in Animation Cinema at UWE, Bristol, where she directed her first short film “White”. The film was selected for several international film festivals and received the award “Young Portuguese Filmmaker” in 2012 at CINANIMA Festival. She currently works in animation and illustration and exposes her artwork, which includes design and video, between Portugal and England.

Catarina Romano estudou cinema de animação tradicional e de volumes no CITEN da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, sob a orientação de Zepe e de Nuno Beato.

Participou no Programa Gulbenkian Criatividade e Criação Artística, no Curso de Realização de Cinema de Animação 3D dirigido pela escola SUPINFOCOM. Colaborou como animadora em diversas curtas-metragens de autor e séries de animação.

Um último habitante de uma aldeia não se deixa submergir no esquecimento. Num mundo onde a ideia de progresso parece estar acima de tudo, esta casa flutua.

The last inhabitant of a village refuses to let himself sink into oblivion. In a world where the idea of progress appears to be above all, this house floats.

Laura Gonçalves graduated in Arts and Animation at ESBAL (2009). She collaborates with several authors, working in animation, painting, final art and in-betweens. In 2012 she completes the MA Degree in Animation at Arts University College of Bournemouth, with her first animation “Three Weeks in December”.

Graduated in Painting at ESBAL (2010), Alexandra Ramires is an animator, in-betweener and final-artist since 2009. She also works has on etching and printmaking, taking part in national and international artistic residencies and Exhibitions regularly since 2010.

Catarina (uma gata) cruza-se com uma velha paixão, Diogo (um cão) na inspeção das bagagens no aeroporto. Têm uma constrangedora conversa que é interrompida por pequenos incidentes. Mas depressa se apercebem de que o passado foi um lamentável mal entendido.

A story about Catarina (a cat) who bumps in to her old love Diogo (a dog) at the airport security. During a very awkward conversation constantly interrupted by airport security staff, Catarina and Diogo realize that they made a big mistake in the past due to a misunderstanding.

Sara Barbas (Lisboa, 1978) é formada em Escultura na ESBAL (2002) e fez os mestrados de Medias Interativos (2004), de Cinema de Animação (2008) na University of the West of England e de Escrita de Argumento (2012) na University of Bath Spa. Começou a animar na Animanostra e pertenceu à equipa de construção plástica da “Suspeita”. Trabalhou na Aardman Animations e na BBC. Em 2008 ganhou o prémio Jovem Cineasta Português no Cinanima com “Onde Quer Que Vás, Lá Estarás”. É realizadora, animadora de volumes e argumentista.

Sara Barbas (Lisbon, 1978) has a degree in Sculpture and three MAs in Interactive Media (UWE, 2004), in Animation (UWE, 2008) and in Scriptwriting (Bath Spa University, 2012). She started animating for Animanostra and worked on “The Suspect”. Sara has worked for Aardman Animations since 2002 and for the BBC in 2009. In 2008 Sara won the Young Portuguese Director Prize at Cinanima with her short “Wherever You Go There You Are”. She’s a director, stop motion animator and scriptwriter.

Laura Gonçalves licenciada em Arte e Multimédia-Animação na ESBAL (2009).

Colaborou com diversos autores, integrando a equipa artística para animação, pintura, traçagem e intercalação. Em 2012 realizou a sua primeira animação “Três Semanas Em Dezembro”, com o mestrado de Animação na Arts University Bournemouth.

Licenciada em Pintura pela ESBAL (2010), Alexandra Ramires é animadora, intercaladora e artista final desde 2009.

Paralelamente, trabalha na área da gravura e técnicas de impressão, em residências artísticas nacionais e internacionais.

Expõe regularmente desde 2010.

E se houvesse um lugar onde se pudesse revisitar as memórias de uma relação amorosa? Neste arquivo de lembranças que somos guiados através da história de Amélia e Duarte, duas pessoas que se separaram e tentam lidar com os sentimentos que vêm depois de um relacionamento perdido.

What if there was a place where to revisit memories of a gone relationship? In this memory archive we are guided through the relationship of Amélia and Duarte, two people that felt out of love and are trying to cope with the feelings that come after a relationship has ended.

Alice Eça Guimarães studied digital arts, at the Portuguese Catholic University. She made short animated films for several brands (Sonae, Intermarché, Leya) and also educational films, wining some prizes.

Mónica Santos studied at the Royal College of Arts in London. Specialized in both theoretical and practical views on cinema, Monica presented her films in Portugal and abroad. She is currently doing a PhD in film studies. She writes on film and illustration (for several papers). Amélia e Duarte was directed by this duo of directors.

Tu, pobre soldadinho, vais alegre para a guerra, sem saber que já levas a pétala vermelha que marca os que irão nela perecer. Ela, é a morte amarela mostarda que te fará sufocar numa trincheira lamacenta e pestilenta, não sem antes te apresentar a alguns danados que já partiram e lá te esperam nos campos da desolação.

Oh, little soldier, jaunting happily towards the war, you pay no heed to the red petal you carry, marking the ones who’ll fall. Such petal is the sign of the mustard yellow death that will smother you in the pestiferous, muddy trenches.

Not, however, without introducing you to some of the damned that have left already, and who are waiting for you in the fields of desolation.

Filipe Abranches (1965, Lisboa).

Licenciado em realização pela Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema. Professor de Ilustração/ BD no Ar.Co. Lecionou e coordenou os mestrados de ilustração da ESAP. Colaborou com a LX Comics. É ilustrador no jornal Expresso.

Publicou vários livros de BD. Ganhou o prémio de Melhor Curta Metragem Portuguesa no festival IndieLisboa com o filme “Pássaros”. Em 2012 realizou “Sanguetinta”. O seu filme “Chatear-me-ia Morrer tão Joveeeeem...” estreou este ano no IndieLisboa.

Filipe Abranches (1965, Lisbon). Degree in Film Making course at the School of Theatre and Film. Professor in the Department of Illustration/Comics at Ar.Co. Lecturer and coordinator of Illustration Masters at ESAP. Began his work in the LX Comics. Works as illustrator at the Expresso newspaper. Has published several comics. Won the award for Best Short Portuguese Film at IndieLisboa with “Birds”. In 2012 directed “Bloodink”.

His film “It Would Piss Me Off To Die So Yoooooung...” premiered this year at IndieLisboa.

Alice Eça Guimarães estudou Artes Digitais, curso Som e Imagem da UCP (2003).

Trabalha com várias técnicas, tanto em publicidade para empresas (Sonae, Intermarché, editora Leya) como em cinema de animação, tendo ganho alguns prémios.

Mónica Santos estudou na Royal College of Arts em Londres. Versada nas visões teóricas e práticas sobre cinema, apresenta os seus filmes nacional e internacionalmente. Está a fazer o doutoramento em estudos cinematográficos. Trabalha em cinema e ilustra para vários periódicos.“Amélia & Duarte” é realizado por esta dupla que atualmente, desenvolve o seu segundo filme em pixilação.

Das gavetas nascem sons e imagens que oferecem uma viagem entre o novo e o velho, a memória e o devaneio. São flashes na retina de velhos objetos, tudo se combina e metamorfoseia gerando algo novo.

Sounds and images arise from the drawers and offer a journey between the new and the old, memory and reverie. It’s like flashes on the retina of old objects. Everything merges together into a metamorphosis, creating something new.

Vítor Hugo is an Illustrator and 2D Animator/Director. Sound and music were always important in his work. He studied Drawing in the Oporto Fine Arts School.

He worked for 3 years in Cine-Clube of Avanca Studios. He directed an Olivetreedance´s videoclip theme, Airport Tunnel. He collaborates since 2011 with Bando à Parte Studios where he has has been animating in films like Any Other Man, Carrotrope, Soot, and Entre Linhas. He works with Illustopia Agency.

Dona Fúnfia usou saia desde que se lembra e um dia resolve experimentar um par de calças.

Motivada pela nova liberdade de movimentos, decide resgatar a bicicleta da arrecadação e fazer a sua volta a Portugal. Como tem tempo, viaja ao ritmo que as pernas lhe permitem, conhecendo outros lugares e associando os nomes escritos nos mapas a sítios reais.

Mrs. Funfia has been wearing skirts as far as she can remember. One day, she decides to try a pair of trousers. Driven by a new freedom of movement, she retrieves her bicycle from the storage room and sets off on a tour of Portugal. She does have time, so she travels at the pace set by her own legs. She finally matches the names on the map to the actual place.

Vítor Hugo é um ilustrador e animador /realizador de animação. A relação da animação com a música e som é algo que tem marcado o seu trabalho. Estudou Desenho na Escola Superior Artística do Porto. Trabalhou 3 anos no Cineclube de Avanca. Fez o vídeoclip animado para o tema “Airport Tunnel” da banda Olivetreedance.

Colabora desde 2011 com o estúdio Bando à Parte e participou nos filmes Outro Homem Qualquer; Carrotrope; Fuligem e Fim de Linha. Colabora com a agência de ilustração Illustopia.

Author of “Olinda”, “The Prisoners” and “Mrs. Funfia”, short animated films that have been awarded at several international festivals, she has also worked in other animation projects such as “Viagem a Cabo Verde” and the colombian tv series for children “Migrópolis”. After living in Spain, Colombia and Mexico, she is currently living in Lisbon where she is developing animation projects with her own producer company, Pickle Films.

Film for the Interpretation Center of Sephardic Culture of the north of Trás-os-Montes, in Portugal.

Pedro Serrazina estudou arquitetura no Porto, onde se dedicou paralelamente ao cinema de animação. O seu filme “Estória do Gato e da Lua”, estreou em Cannes’96 e obteve 15 prémios internacionais. Em 1996 fez mestrado no Royal College of Arts, onde permaneceu um ano como assistente.

Foi diretor do curso de licenciatura em Animation Arts na University for the Creative Arts. Atualmente é professor convidado da Universidade Católica do Porto e na Universidade Lusófona de Lisboa.

Pedro Serrazina studied architecture in Oporto, where he also works in animation.

His film “Story of the Cat and the Moon”, premiered in Cannes’96 and was awarded with 15 international prizes. In 1996, he got a Master degree at Royal College of Arts, where he stayed a year as an assistant.

He was the director of the course of Animation Arts at the University for the Creative Arts. He’s currently a teacher at the Universidade Católica do Porto and Universidade Lusófona de Lisboa.

Este é um filme sobre a forma como a Guerra se instala no corpo das pessoas que a vivem olhos nos olhos. E, depois, a milhares de quilómetros e dezenas de anos decorridos, contamina, como um vírus, as famílias dos ex-combatentes.

This is a film about how the war enters the body of those who are forced to live it directly face to face. And then, thousands of miles away and dozens of years ahead, like a virus, it can still infect other human beings, the families of former soldiers.

José Miguel Ribeiro licenciou-se em Artes Plásticas na ESBAL e é ilustrador desde 1990. Estudou animação na LazennecBretagne e na Filmógrafo. Tem uma extensa filmografia, destacando-se “A Suspeita” (Cartoon d’Or 2000) e “Viagem a Cabo Verde”, tendo vencido vários prémios.

Em 2007 funda, com Nuno Beato e Eva Yébenes, a produtora Sardinha em Lata.

Em 2012 cria a produtora Praça Filmes.

Acaba de realizar a curta “Estilhaços” e prepara a primeira longa de animação, “Nayola”, a partir do texto “A Caixa Preta” de Mia Couto e Eduardo Agualusa.

José Miguel Ribeiro completed his degree in Fine Arts at ESBAL and he is an illustrator since 1990. He studied animation at Lazannec-Bretagne and at Filmógrafo.

He has an extensive filmography, namely A Suspeita (Cartoon D’Or 2000) and Viagem a Cabo Verde, and won several prizes.

In 2007, he founded the studio Sardinha em Lata, with Nuno Beato and Eva Yébenes.

And in 2012 he creates the studio Praça Filmes. Presently directing the short FRAGMENTS and developing his first animation feature film “Nayola”, based on “A Caixa Preta” by Mia Couto and Eduardo Agualusa.

Margarida Madeira Natural de Canas de Senhorim, Portugal, autora das curtas-metragens “Olinda”, “Os Prisioneiros” e “Dona Fúnfia” todas premiadas em festivais internacionais, também colaborou noutros projetos de animação como “Viagem a Cabo Verde” e a série para televisão colombiana “Migrópolis”.

Depois de passar por Espanha, Colômbia e México, atualmente vive em Lisboa a desenvolver projetos de animação na sua produtora Pickle Films.

António Pinto is graduated in Sound and Image, specialized in Filmmaking at UCP. He was director and animator at “Apple of an eye” (2000). Since 2003 he works in animation, motion graphics and television.

Paulo D’Alva is graduated in Fine Arts (ESAP) and master in Fine Arts Teaching at Universidade de Aveiro. Since 1997, he was director and animator at some animation shorts and series, like “Alfredo”, “A noite cheirava mal” and “Carrotrope”.

A rejected character drawn searches for a purpose in life. It’s a story about the pursuit and confrontation of an unwanted character with the frustrated expectations imposed by its creator who denies its existence and sends it to the universe of sketches that never achieve to be full draws.

Pedro Brito é um autor e realizador português nascido em 1975. Das obras de animação que assinou destacam-se: 2011 “Fado do Homem Crescido” (7’); 2006 “Sem Dúvida, amanhã!” (7’); 2004 “Sem Respirar” (8’); 2003 - “O Paciente” (6’); 2000 - “A Estrela de Gaspar” (26’).

António Pinto é licenciado em Som e Imagem com especialização em Realização, pela Escola de Artes da UCP. Realizou e animou a sua primeira curta-metragem “A menina dos olhos” em 2000.

Desde 2003 trabalha em animação, motion graphics e televisão.

Jerónimo Rocha loves storytelling. Graduated in Painting by FBAUP and post graduated in Pitching and Script Analysis at Madrid Cinema School. He works, since 2005, at TAKE IT EASY (Lisbon) as a director and creative director.

João Miguel Real has a degree in Engineering and he soon fell in love with Audiovisuals.

He also graduated in arts (illustration and animation). He has worked with several production companies: 3Dcities, Mylko, Sardinha em Lata, Bang Bang Animation, Showoff and Take It Easy, being its currently Animation Director and he also co-directs some projects.

Having escaped from Iraqi forces, Moulla, the young Kurd, grew into a handsome man.

Well reputed, he can choose any woman of its tribe. Because of the massacre men are rare.

Religion says he may a whole harem, but the idea of marrying a woman does not fit its nature quite well.

Rui Cardoso é licenciado em Pintura pela FBAUL. Frequentou o curso de Design de Comunicação na ESBAL. Foi Designer na CML (Desporto). Em 1991 funda a Animanostra onde desenvolveu grande parte do seu trabalho de autor, realizador, diretor técnico e artístico de filmes de animação.

Em 2008, cria a Toonelada onde é produtor e realizador. É o autor e realizador das séries “O Patinho” e “A Demanda do Erre”.

Com “O Refugiado” recebe o prémio para melhor animação Clap89 (França) e recebe prémio de melhor filme português com “Voragem” no Cinanima.

Rui Cardoso has a degree in Painting of FBAUL. Studied Communication Design at ESBAL. Worked as designer for Lisbon Municipality. In 1991, he founded Animanostra studio, where he worked as a creative designer, director and art director of animated films. In 2008, he founded Toonelada, where he currently is a producer and director. Creator of the series “O Patinho” and “A Demanda do Erre”. With its short “O refugiado” he won the best animation in Clap89, France and with “Voragem”, the Best Portuguese Animated Film at Cinanima.

Vasco, um jovem rapaz que vive a vida como um sonho, vive numa aldeia distante no tempo, tudo é antigo. A aldeia está presente nesta história como um todo, como um organismo vivo em que todos os elementos são importantes e necessários à sua vida quotidiana e àqueles que nela vivem.

Vasco is a young boy who lives his life in a magical way, surrounded by the picturesque atmosphere of his village. The village is present in this story as a whole, as a living organism in which all elements are important and necessary for their daily lives and to those who live there.

Mário Gajo de Carvalho tem quatro cursos superiores completos em cinema e artes. O seu filme de animação “Os Milionários” estreou na competição internacional do Indielisboa em 2011 onde foi premiado e foi exibido em diversos festivais internacionais.

O seu último filme “O lugar que se mantém” teve a estreia internacional no 10th Berlin Directors Lounge - Contemporary Art and Media 2014 e foi exibido em festivais de 12 países. Neste momento está a acabar a sua próxima animação “O meu Cata-vento”.

Mário Gajo de Carvalho has four complete higher education degrees in the areas of Visual Arts and Cinema. His short animation “The Millionaires” premiered in IndieLisboa in 2011 where was awarded, it was exhibited in several international film festivals.

His last movie “The place that remains” had the internacional premiere in 10th Berlin Directors Lounge - Contemporary Art and Media 2014 and was screened in festivals of 12 countries. He is finishing his next short animation “My Vane”.

“Pronto, era assim” apresenta a história de vida de seis idosos, quatro senhoras e um casal, que sobre a forma de entrevistas dão voz aos objetos que protagonizam este documentário, partilhando as suas histórias de vida em momentos fragmentados que oscilam entre o passado, presente e futuro.

“That’s how it was” presents the life story of six seniors, four ladies and a couple. In an interview mode, they give voice to the objects who protagonize this documentary. They shared their life stories in fragmented moments that oscillate between the past, present and future.

Joana Nogueira studied Fine Arts, at ESAD.CR (2009). Currently she’s studing Illustration and Animation at IPCA. She was at Academia RTP (2014-2015). She works as sculptor, illustrator and animator. Also she teaches visual arts and workshops.

Patricia Rodrigues is graduated in Communication Design and Audiovisual Production at ESART, IPCB. Currently, she’s attending the Master in Illustration and Animation in IPCA. She works as a graphic designer and animater. Between 2014 and 2015 she was at Academy RTP. “That’s how it was” is the first short animated film of the directors.

Rita Cruchinho Neves inicia o seu percurso no cinema de animação, com 11 anos, no ACARTE-Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, onde realiza três curtas-metragens, uma das quais premiada pelo Instituto da Juventude e pelo Clube Português de Artes e Ideias. Licencia-se em Arquitetura e funda o atelier multidisciplinar MODO. Frequenta o curso de Storyboard e Narrativa da Bristol School of Animation, integra o Curso de Animação em Desenho da Faculdade de Belas Artes de Lisboa e conclui o curso de Desenho de Modelo na ARCO. Trabalhou com diversos realizadores portugueses. Vígil é o seu primeiro filme ao qual se segue o Diário de Barba.

Rita Cruchinho Neves started her career in animation cinema, when she was 11 years-old, in ACARTE-Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

There she directed three short films, one of these awarded by the National Meeting of Culture and Development. Graduated in Architecture and funds MODO. She took the Bristol School of Animation Storyboard and Narrative course, joined the University of Lisbon Faculty of Fine Arts course in Animation for Drawing and completed the Model Drawing course at ARCO. She worked with several portuguese directors. Vígil is Rita’s first film witch following Beard’s Journal.

natália azevedo andrade Natália Azevedo Andrade nasceu em 1992, em Braga. Licenciada em Pintura pela Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto, passou dois anos como estudante de intercâmbio no departamento de Animação da Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest. Tem realizado filmes de animação desde 2010.

Natália Azevedo Andrade was born in 1992, in Braga. With a degree in Painting from Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto, she spent two years as an exchange student in the animation department of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest. Since 2010, she has been directing animated films.

Miguel Pires de Matos graduates in Architecture in 1991. Freelance architect, he collaborates as an author, employee or consultant in several architectural projects in Portugal, Hungary and Brazil. He is member of the Lisbon Gregorian Choir and he has recorded 4 CD’s internationally issued by DECCA. In 2006 he was part of the selection panel of the 30th edition of Cinanima. He was coordinator and co-director of the films “aedificandi”, “compositio III” and “40.25.04” premiered at Monstra Lisbon Festival. Since 2012 he is a member of the selection’s jury of this Festival.

Da maravilhosa descoberta de saborear água até ao impulso de matar, é acompanhado por uma criatura misteriosa e enigmática. Uma outra perspetiva de um mito onde nem tudo parece o que é.

The first man, was created on 28 October, at two o’clock ... From a primordial tree, a primordial being is born. Surrounded by a hostile world, he metamorphoses into an intelligent force that will submit all the brutal force. From the wonderful discovery of the taste of the water until the uncontrollable urge to kill, man is accompanied by a mysterious and enigmatic creature – a woman. Another perspective of a myth where not everything looks like it really is.

Tiago Albuquerque nasceu em Lisboa, em 1982. O seu trabalho divide-se entre Ilustração, Animação, Banda Desenhada e Música. Colabora regularmente com diversos jornais e revistas nacionais e ilustra livros e capas de discos. His work is divided between Illustration, Animation, Comics and Music. He works regularly with several newspapers and magazines and made made several illustrated books and album covers.

Inês Freitas and Miguel Mendes grew up creating and developing new worlds, characters and stories for film, games and comic books. Envolta no vento gelado que se levanta naquele dia, a rudeza da relação entre os dois cresce, atingindo o limite. No quebrar do gelo, emerge a inevitabilidade de uma escolha que determinará o destino de ambos.

A harsh winter freezes the surface of a river, close to a house where two cousins live. One day, immersed in the cold wind that rises, the rudeness of their relationship grows, reaching its limit. As the ice breaks, the inevitability of a choice emerges and determines the destiny of them both.

“Fuligem” é o segundo filme que resulta da colaboração entre David Doutel e Vasco Sá. Formados pela Escola das Artes da Universidade Católica, trabalharam em inúmeras curtas-metragens de animação de vários autores portugueses desde o ano de 2007. “O Sapateiro” foi o primeiro filme co-realizado pelos autores, produzido pela produtora Sardinha em Lata em 2011. Neste momento colaboram com a produtora Bando à Parte como Realizadores e Directores de Produção de animação.

“Soot” is the second award-winning short animated film that results from the collaboration between David Doutel and Vasco Sá. Both graduated with a degree in Sound and Image at the Portuguese Catholic University School of Arts, the authors have worked in several animated short films directed by Portuguese authors since 2007. “The Shoemaker” was the first film co-directed by the authors, produced

by Sardinha em Lata in 2011. Currently David Doutel and Vasco Sá are collaborating with Bando à Parte production company as directors and animation production directors.

Filme baseado no conto de Tchekov, A SONOLENTA. Numa casa de aldeia, Maria, uma menina, que é criada de um casal , quer dormir. Está cansada, muito cansada, mas é constantemente importunada pelo choro da criança, de quem se ocupa, e pelas ordens incessantes dos senhores.

Inspired by Chekhov’s short story SLEEPY. In a village house, a young girl, Maria, wants to sleep. She is a servant for a couple of peasants and must also care for their baby. She is constantly harassed by the cries of the child and her masters orders.

Marta Monteiro is a bachelor in Design (1994) and graduated in Fine Arts - Sculpture in 1999. She attended the Norwich School of Art (ERASMUS). She attended workshops of illustration, animated film, printing techniques, and communication design.

Illustration: Award of Excellence, Communication Arts, USA, Merit mention from the 3x3 Association, for the book “Shadows”, 2014. Gold Medal, Society of Illustrators, New York, for “Little People” in 2014.

She directed the animation short “Spirit of Independence”: Audience Award (Monstra, 2012), Honorable Mention (Cinanima, 2011).

Um avião de combate flutua no oceano.

Despenhou-se e o combate aéreo ainda decorre nos céus. O piloto tenta que o salvem e passa horas e dias a tentar sobreviver à noite, à chuva tropical e aos tubarões.

Ao adormecer, ouvem-se músicas havaianas e um séquito de indígenas vindo numa canoa, resgata-o, coroando-o de flores.

A fighter plane floats in the ocean, after crashing, with the combat still going on in the sky. The pilot tries to be rescued and then spends hours and days trying to survive the night, the tropical rain and the sharks. When he’s falling asleep, we hear Hawaiian music and a group of natives in canoes approaches and rescues him, crowning him with flowers.

Licenciado em realização pela Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema. Professor de Ilustração/ BD no Ar.Co. Lecionou e coordenou os mestrados de ilustração da ESAP. Colaborou com a LX Comics. É ilustrador no jornal Expresso. Publicou vários livros de BD. Ganhou o prémio de Melhor Curta Metragem Portuguesa no festival IndieLisboa com o filme “Pássaros”. Em 2012 realizou “Sanguetinta”. O seu filme “Chatear-me-ia Morrer tão Joveeeeem...” estreou este ano no IndieLisboa.

Filipe Abranches (1965, Lisbon). Degree in Film Making course at the School of Theatre and Film. Professor in the Department of Illustration/Comics at Ar.Co. Lecturer and coordinator of Illustration Masters at ESAP. Began his work in the LX Comics. Works as illustrator at the Expresso newspaper. Has published several comics. Won the award for Best Short Portuguese Film at IndieLisboa with “Birds”. In 2012 directed “Bloodink”.

His film “It Would Piss Me Off To Die So Yoooooung...” premiered this year at IndieLisboa.

Numa cidade sem fim controlada por máquinasquimera, um grupo de crianças desvia-se da existência normalizada, descobrindo brinquedos novos e fora do vulgar. A cada episódio as crianças escapam da tirania da “Rede”, e descobrem um novo universo, livre da lógica adulta da cidade, onde dão azo à sua criatividade e aprendem novas formas de sentir o mundo.

In an endless city, overseen by machinechimeras, a group of children deviates from normalized existence, finding new toys and plays unusual. In each episode the children escape the Web’s tyranny, and discover a new universe, free from the city’s “adult” logic and they spawn their creativity and give new senses to the world.

Nuno Amorim graduated in architecture, was art director in ad agencies and author of most of graphic image of Portuguese Public TV in the 80’s and 90’s, where he initiated the Graphic Department. In 91 he co-founded production house Animais where he directs and produces.

Alice Eça Guimarães studied digital arts, at the Portuguese Catholic University. She works in various animation techniques, both for advertising and short films,havin won numerous prizes with her 1st short “Amélia & Duarte”, co-directed by Mónica Santos.

circus Nuno Amorim, formado em arquitetura, foi art director de publicidade e autor de grande parte do grafismo da RTP de 78 a 98, onde criou o Departamento Gráfico. Em 1991, cofundou a produtora Animais AVPL na qual realiza e produz.

Alice Eça Guimarães estudou Artes Digitais, Som e Imagem na UCP. Trabalha com várias técnicas, tanto em publicidade como em cinema de animação, tendo o seu primeiro filme Améla & Duarte, co-realizado por Mónica Santos, ganho numerosos prémios.

Solstício de Verão. Eclipse solar. Sobre o Rossio, a luz rarefaz-se. O alto pilar de pedra espera a vinda do seu mais ilustre ocupante.

Um bando de estorninhos cruza o céu.

Uma rapariga atravessa a praça. Numa barbearia e a partir destas imagens, Arthur vai construindo o seu poema mais íntimo.

Summer solstice. Solar eclipse. On Rossio, the light rarefies. The high stone pillar waits for the arrival of its most notable occupant.

A flock of starlings crosses the sky. A girl crosses the square. In a barber shop inspired by this images, Arthur builds his most intimate poem.

Rita Cruchinho Neves started her career in animation cinema, when she was 11 years-old, in ACARTE-Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

There she directed three short films, one of these awarded by the National Meeting of Culture and Development. Graduated in Architecture and funds MODO. She took the Bristol School of Animation Storyboard and Narrative course, joined the University of Lisbon Faculty of Fine Arts course in Animation for Drawing and completed the Model Drawing course at ARCO. She worked with several portuguese directors. Vígil is Rita’s first film witch following Beard’s Journal.

Um personagem em luta contra a perda de identidade, cujo percurso é continuamente influenciado pelo medo do desconhecido e aproximação à morte.

A character fight against the lost of identity, whose route is continuously influenced by fear of the unknown and approaching death.

Margarida Madeira Natural de Canas de Senhorim, Portugal, autora das curtas-metragens “Olinda”, “Os Prisioneiros” e “Dona Fúnfia” todas premiadas em festivais internacionais, também colaborou noutros projetos de animação como “Viagem a Cabo Verde” e a série para televisão colombiana “Migrópolis”.

Depois de passar por Espanha, Colômbia e México, atualmente vive em Lisboa a desenvolver projetos de animação na sua produtora Pickle Films.

Margarida Madeira was born in Canas de Senhorim Portugal in 1987. Author of “Olinda”, “The Prisoners” and “Mrs. Funfia”, short animated films that have been awarded at several international festivals, she has also worked in other animation projects such as “Viagem a Cabo Verde” and the colombian tv series for children “Migrópolis”. After living in Spain, Colombia and Mexico, she is currently living in Lisbon where she is developing animation projects with her own producer company, Pickle Films.

Natália, presa no seu dia-a-dia entediante e repetitivo, vê num pedido de ajuda a aventura que tanto almeja. Durante este percurso para resgatar um coração roubado, a protagonista é arrastada para perigos e perseguições onde nada do que parece, é.

Natália works in an archive where people have the option to store their hearts, in order not to fall in love. Stuck in a tedious and repetitive daily life, she finds the adventure that she longs for in a seductive call for help. During this journey to rescue a stolen heart, Natália is pushed into perils and persecutions inside a surreal world, in which she has to decide whether to give her heart or to save it for herself.

O estranho paquiderme impressionou a Europa. Foi eternizado por Dürer, e depois de vários acontecimentos, foi oferecido ao papa como prenda diplomática.

This is the story of Ganda, a rhino caught in India, led to Lisbon in a caravel and delivered to King D. Manuel. The odd pachyderm impressed Europe. It was immortalized by Dürer in a picture, and after various events, it was offered to the pope as a diplomatic gift.

Elsa Bruxelas é Mestre em Pintura pela FBAUL. Realizadora de várias curtas metragens de imagem real, estreia-se agora na animação. A história de Hortense constrói-se como um livro de culinária: cada namorado é uma receita. Viajamos pelos seus relacionamentos estabelecendo metáforas entre a comida e os seus amantes. Hortense apaixona-se muitas vezes por comidas/pessoas diferentes na esperança de um dia saborear uma boa refeição.

The story of Hortense is built as a cookbook: every boyfriend is a recipe. We traveled by her relationships establishing metaphors between food and her lovers. Hortense often falls in love for different food/person hoping that one day she will enjoy a good meal.

Um personagem refugia-se num lugar deserto. Vêmo-lo a acordar e a fazer as suas rotinas diárias: levantar-se, caminhar, esperar e ir dormir. As acções repetem-se até que o personagem começa uma jornada. Seguem-se alguns percalços mais ou menos caóticos, que incluem outros personagens.

A character takes shelter in a desert place.

Everyday he wakes up and perform its routines: he gets up, he walks, he waits, he goes to sleep. The actions are repeated until one day the character starts a journey. Then some setbacks more or less chaotic will occur, that includes other characters.

Bruno Borges Formado em Pintura FBAU. Tem desenvolvido trabalho de Pintura regularmente em colaboração com galerias (Portugal, Espanha, EUA). Angola. Três gerações de mulheres: Lelena (a avó), Nayola (a filha) e Luana (a neta) flageladas pela guerra civil. A imaginação de uma órfã reinventa a mãe como heroína nas folhas de um diário onde despontam, encadeiam e se desfazem memórias e máscaras, utopias e crueldades, realidade e magia.

Angola. Three generations of women: Lelena (the grandmother), Nayola (the daughter) and Luana (the granddaughter) deeply plagued by civil war. The imagination of an orphan girl reinvents her mother as a heroin on the sheets of a journal, where memories and masks, utopias and cruelties, reality and magic emerge, mesh together and fall apart.

José Miguel Ribeiro completed his degree in Fine Arts at ESBAL and he is an illustrator since 1990. He studied animation at Lazannec-Bretagne and at Filmógrafo.

He has an extensive filmography, namely A Suspeita (Cartoon D’Or 2000) and Viagem a Cabo Verde, and won several prizes.

In 2007, he founded the studio Sardinha em Lata, with Nuno Beato and Eva Yébenes.

And in 2012 he creates the studio Praça Filmes. Presently directing the short “Fragments” and developing his first animation feature film “Nayola”, based on “A Caixa Preta” by Mia Couto and Eduardo Agualusa.

Adaptação de um conto infantil de Pedro Teixeira Neves. Por vezes parece que a boa vontade desapareceu do mundo. Não se encontra quem esteja disposto a partilhar desinteressadamente com os outros.

“Mais vale partir para a Lua e lá procurar um cantinho para viver sossegado”, pensou o pobre ao olhar para a Lua, a sua única companhia naquela noite tão fria.

Based on a children’s tale by Pedro Teixeira Neves. Sometimes it seems that kindness has disappeared from the world. It seems that no one is willing to share unselfishly with others. “It´s better to go to the moon and to look there for a quiet place to live”, thought the poor man looking at the moon, his only fellow in that cold night.

Rui Cardoso é licenciado em Pintura pela FBAUL. Frequentou o curso de Design de Comunicação na ESBAL. Foi Designer na CML (Desporto). Em 1991 funda a Animanostra onde desenvolveu grande parte do seu trabalho de autor, realizador, diretor técnico e artístico de filmes de animação.

Em 2008, cria a Toonelada onde é produtor e realizador. É o autor e realizador das séries “O Patinho” e “A Demanda do Erre”.

Com “O Refugiado” recebe o prémio para melhor animação Clap89 (França) e recebe prémio de melhor filme português com “Voragem” no Cinanima.

Rui Cardoso has a degree in Painting of FBAUL. Studied Communication Design at ESBAL. Worked as designer for Lisbon Municipality.

In 1991, he founded Animanostra studio, where he worked as a creative designer, director and art director of animated films.

In 2008, he founded Toonelada, where he currently is a producer and director. Creator of the series “O Patinho” and “A Demanda do Erre”. With its short “O refugiado” he won the best animation in Clap89, France and with “Voragem”, th Best Portuguese Animated Film at Cinanima.

José Miguel Ribeiro licenciou-se em Artes Plásticas na ESBAL e é ilustrador desde 1990. Estudou animação na LazennecBretagne e na Filmógrafo. Tem uma extensa filmografia, destacando-se “A Suspeita” (Cartoon d’Or 2000) e “Viagem a Cabo Verde”, tendo vencido vários prémios.

Em 2007 funda, com Nuno Beato e Eva Yébenes, a produtora Sardinha em Lata.

Em 2012 cria a produtora Praça Filmes.

Acaba de realizar a curta “Estilhaços” e prepara a primeira longa de animação, “Nayola”, a partir do texto “A Caixa Preta” de Mia Couto e Eduardo Agualusa.

Bruno Caetano has always been fascinated by animation, since he couldn’t draw, he gave stop motion a try. After several amateur productions he specialized at CIEAM and devoted himself to this technique. In the years that followed he kept working on defying projects, increasing not only his passion, but also his experience in animation.

Currently he works as a production manager, director and animator at EASYLAB. Still doesn’t know how to draw.

Filme de animação que evoca Gisberta Júnior, transexual assassinada em 2006, através de duas narrativas contrastantes: a do quotidiano de transexuais e dos depoimentos dos agressores envolvidos no caso. Tendo por base testemunhos reais e contadas em paralelo, debruçam-se ambas sobre a condição humana.

A film about Gisberta, a homeless, transexual, prostitute, drug user and HIV Positive murdered by a group of teenage boys in Porto. The story is told through two contrasting narratives: transgender’s daily life and statements of the perpetrators involved in the case. Both based on real statements and both about human condition.

Paulo Patrício was born in Huambo, Angola and lives in Oporto, Portugal. He shares his artistic activity between drawing, animation, illustration and multimedia. He studied Painting in the Faculty of Fine Arts of Oporto University – Portugal (1998-2003).

A ideia para este filme nasceu do desenho “Sinalética para um novo dia”. No desenho uma casa em que os adultos têm a forma de pictogramas. Esse lar é “invadido” por 3 crianças na forma de desenhos infantis, aterrorizando a personagem feminina que foge apavorada perante a “destruição” a que assiste.

The idea for this film is inspired by a drawing named “Signage for a new day”.

There’s a house and the adults in it are represented by pictograms. The house is “invaded” by 3 children that have the form of children’s drawings, and they terrify the female pictogram that flees before the visual “destruction”.

Born in Portugal en 1985, Catarina Sobral is a published author and illustrator. After studying Graphic Design,she graduated in Illustration in 2012. Her work is a regular presence in editorial illustration and she has been published in countries including Portugal, Brazil, France, Italy, Sweden, Hungary, Germany, Argentina and South Korea. main areas of intervention are the 2D Digital Animation / 3D, Virtual and Augmented Reality, and Multimedia Production. The digital animation is broken down into various components during the three years of the study plan addressing the motion graphics, character animation and performance animation (real time).

This degree crosses different animation techniques (traditional and 2D/3D), and aims for the creation of animated films. Favors training guided by experienced professionals and academics in the field of animation, audiovisual techniques and visual culture.

It produces annually around 5 short films, documentary and experimental animation.

A licenciatura em Tecnologia da Comunicação Multimédia (TCM) assenta numa visão contemporânea, criativa e interdisciplinar. Orienta-se numa dimensão artística e de inovação tecnológica e persegue uma filosofia de conhecimento transversal, promovida pelas várias áreas de conhecimento que compõem o curso.

As principais áreas de intervenção são a Animação Digital 2D/3D, Realidade Virtual e Aumentada, Produção e Realização Multimédia. A animação digital é decomposta em diversas componentes durante os três anos do plano de estudos abordando a animação gráfica (motion graphics), a animação de personagens e a animação performativa (tempo real), explorando diversas técnicas de interação.

The bachelor in Multimedia Communication Technology (TCM) is based on a contemporary, and interdisciplinary vision. Towards an artistic education supported by the technological innovations it pursues the transversal knowledge sustained by the crossings between different fields. The

Esta licenciatura cruza diferentes técnicas de animação, das mais tradicionais ao 3D, orientadas para a realização de filmes de animação. Privilegia uma formação orientada por profissionais e académicos experientes em animação, técnicas audiovisuais e cultura visual. Produz anualmente cerca de 5 curtas, documentários animados e animações experimentais.

ANIMATION SCHOOLS

Computer Animation is a central area in the new millennium creative industries and audiovisual. The students’ work is oriented towards the creation of animated film projects involving various technical and artistic practices, such as modeling, lighting and 3D texturing; the visual effects that integrate real image and 3D image; design, editing and graphics for video; the study of characters and narratives. The Master in Computer Animation Area confers diferente skills always in conjunction with professionals from other areas of expertise.

Animação por Computador é uma área central nas indústrias criativas e dos audiovisuais do novo milénio. O trabalho dos alunos é orientado para a criação de projetos de cinema de animação que envolvem técnicas práticas e artísticas diversas, tais como a modelação, iluminação e texturização 3D; os efeitos visuais que integram imagem real e imagem 3D; o design, edição e grafismo para vídeo; o estudo de personagens e narrativas.

Este mestrado confere competências para intervir em diferentes domínios sempre em articulação com profissionais de outras áreas de especialização.
