Fun in the Sun Birthday Party Package

Make your next birthday party a splash! Pool parties include the use of the Oasis party room and swimming. Parties are 2.5 hours in length with 90 minutes of swimming and 60 minutes for lunch and cupcakes. Lunch is your choice of hot dog, pizza, or chicken fingers with chips, juice box, and cupcakes. Fee is $300 for Cary Park District residents and $450 for non-residents for up to 24 guests. Additional guests (up to 40 guests) are $15.00 each.

Aqua Fitness

Aqua Jog & Stretch

Come out for this unique class that is held in the current channel. Walk, jog, or run against the resistance of the moving water and finish with a good stretch.

Aqua Tabata

Jump in the water and enjoy this fun high energy workout! Tabata format consists of using maximum effort for 20 seconds and recovering for 10 seconds. Work through multiple circuits that include a series of exercises with different equipment, or just use the resistance of the water to build those muscles and work that core. All levels welcome.

Surfboard Yoga

The hottest new fitness phenomenon has made its way to Sunburst Bay! Tone your body while increasing your balance, strength, flexibility, and mobility through this slow flow yoga class. What could be more relaxing than yoga on water? No paddleboard or surf experience necessary. All levels welcome.

Total Body Aqua

Join in on the fun and get a full body workout with Total Body Aqua! This class will incorporate different exercises and techniques that will work all major muscle groups. This class is a great cardiovascular workout, as well as, a strength builder. All levels welcome.

Two Ways to Take Aqua Fitness Classes

1. Register for an entire session of an aqua fitness class. This guarantees you a space in the class you register for. Registration is accepted at carypark.com, Sunburst Bay Aquatic Center, and at the Community Center. Fees for the entire session are listed in the chart above.

2. If you prefer to take aqua fitness classes as your schedule allows, you my pay the walk in fee at the start of the class and take the class if space allows. The resident/non resident walk in fee for Aqua Jog & Stretch, Aqua Tabata and Total Body Aqua is $8/$12 and for Surfboard Yoga is $20/$30.

Unlimited group fitness passes and punch passes are not eligible on Aqua Fitness classes.

Swim Lesson Program General Information

All courses are taught by certified American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program (A.R.C.) Water Safety Instructors and Lifeguards. Swimmer attendance is important in order to ensure proper skill development and level advancement. On the first day of each session, a brief orientation is held for the parents with children in the program, including discussion of lesson plans and rain dates. The lesson coordinator will also be available to answer questions.

Swim Lesson Registration Deadline

The deadline for swim lesson registration is 48 hours before the session begins.

Swim Lesson Rules

A letter will be sent to parents following enrollment in the swim lesson program. Please refer to this letter for important information on lessons, rules, and guidelines.

Swim Lesson Cancellations

Always assume lessons will be held. In the event of questionable weather, visit carypark.com and click on the RainOutLine banner on the home page. There you may select to receive text alerts, email alerts, or you can download the app.

You may call 847.639.6200 to hear a recorded message of updates.

Unless otherwise listed, cancellations due to inclement weather will usually be made up on the Friday within the session. Make-ups or refunds will not be granted if the participant does not show up for a scheduled lesson that is held.

Learning to swim is learning a life skill! Choose from private, semi-private, and group lessons for children as young as 6 months to adults. Choose from weekday morning, weekday evening, or Saturday morning. All courses are taught by certified American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program (A.R.C.) Water Safety Instructors and Lifeguards.

Semi-Private Swim Lessons

Ages 4 years and older

Instructor: Staff Min/Max: 2/4 per instructor

Semi-private swim lessons offer individualized instruction for all ability levels from Level 2 Primary Skills through Level 4 Stroke Development. Descriptions for each level can be found on the next page. Unfortunately, there are no make-ups or refunds if the participant does not show up for a scheduled lesson.

Private Swim Lessons

Ages 4 years and older

Instructor: Staff Min/Max: 1/5

Private swim lessons offer one-on-one instruction for students at any age and ability level from Level 2 Primary Skills through Level 6 Stroke Proficiency. Descriptions for each level can be found on the next page. Unfortunately, there are no make-ups or refunds if the participant does not show up for a scheduled lesson.

Infant and Preschool Aquatics Program (Group Lesson)

Ages 6 months - 2 years with parent Instructor: Staff Max: 8/session

Through guided practice sessions, children learn skills such as water entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, back floating, underwater exploration, and more in a program that develops swim readiness and teaches children to have fun in the water. No class 7/4

Group Lessons

Ages 3 years and older Instructor: Staff Min/Max: Level 1: 8/12; Levels 2-4: 3/20; Levels 5 - 6: 2/4

Level 1 - Water Exploration

Ages 3 - 5 years

Swimmers learn to feel comfortable and enjoy the water while learning water adjustment in a group setting. Supported floating on the front and back, supported kicking on the front and back, underwater skills, and water safety skills will be taught. Required skills: Willingness to get in the pool and put face in the water without a parent. Max: 12 per session

Level 2 - Primary Skills

Ages 4 years and older

Enrolled swimmers must be comfortable in the water without a parent and have completed Level 1 or equivalent. Swimmers learn to retrieve objects under water, float and glide on the front and back, combine strokes using kick and alternating arm actions, 5 yards and deep water orientation with support. Required skills: Level 1 skills, bubbles with nose, comfortable being on front and back in water. Max: 20 per session

Level 3 - Stroke Readiness

Ages 6 years and older

Level 3 builds on skills by coordinating strokes and increasing endurance. Swimmers learn to coordinate front and back crawl for 10 yards, the basics of backstroke, and backstroke kick for 10 yards, and treading water. Required skills: Level 2 skills, front and back crawl. Max: 20 per session

Level 4 - Stroke Development

Ages 7 years and older

Level 4 develops stroke endurance and introduces the breaststroke and sidestroke. Swimmers learn elementary backstroke (10 yards), front and back crawl (25 yards), breaststroke kick (10 yards), scissors kick (10 yards), treading water for 2 minutes, and standing front dive. Required skills: Level 3 skills, breast and side strokes. Max: 20 per session

Level 5 - Stroke Refinement

Ages 8 years and older

Level 5 refines coordination and increases endurance of key strokes. Swimmers learn the breaststroke (10 yards), elementary backstroke (25 yards), front crawl (50 yards), backstroke (50 yards), and are introduced to the butterfly stroke. Required skills: Level 4 skills and all strokes. Max: 4 per session

Level 6 - Stroke Proficiency

Ages 8 years and older

Level 6 polishes strokes so swimmers perform them with more ease, efficiency, power, and smoothness over greater distances. Swimmers learn the butterfly (10 yards), sidestroke (25 yards), breaststroke (50 yards), backstroke (100 yards), front crawl (100 yards) and turns. Required skills: Level 5 skills and refined strokes. Max: 4 per session

A membership to the Fitness Center provides you with access to the cardio and strength rooms. All members must bring their pass and scan in each time they use the Fitness Center.

Fitness Center Usage Policy

Members must be 15 years or older to use the Fitness Center. Youth ages 15 - 17 years old must have signed consent of a parent or guardian to use the Fitness Center. Persons 55 years and older may receive the senior membership rate.

No matter what your current level of fitness is, a personal trainer can help you reach your fitness goals. Whether it’s to lose weight, tone up, improve your health or gain sport-specific improvement, a trainer can help design a program to meet your needs.

A fitness assessment is required before signing up for a personal training session. All personal training packages expire 6-months from the date of purchase.

Fitness Assessment

A fitness assessment is a confidential all-inclusive review of your current health and fitness levels. A certified trainer will meet with you to review your cardiovascular fitness, body composition/body fat percentage, flexibility, blood pressure and muscle strength/endurance. The trainer will discuss the results with you.

A fitness assessment is required before signing up for a personal training session. After registration, you will be contacted by a personal trainer to schedule an appointment.

Healthy Minds Healthy Bodies is available to qualified veterans for one year Fitness Center membership, up to 15 one hour personal training sessions and monthly networking events.
