Our songs would be my favorite tradition. The sisterhood songs have been sung at weddings, funerals and reunion gatherings. The relationships formed through the rush and pledge process became finalized in the activation ceremony; a sisterhood bond for life! Personal Message What joy and comfort I take in knowing the bond of sisterhood created by our experiences at Carthage and beyond. I have never been one for favorites. I loved them all! Personal Message for the Memory Book: I am currently ending my first year of retirement living in northern Michigan, and am enjoying it. My husband and I enjoy traveling, mostly road trips. We have visited all 50 states and have been to most of the capitol buildings. I have three children and five grandchildren so far. They are a joy! I have only the fondest of memories of my years at Carthage and of Kappa Chi. Although I haven't done well at keeping in touch, I think of so many of you often.

Kappa Chi Acceptance Ceremony Personal Message for the Memory Book: Since leaving Carthage, I've been blessed to have a successful managerial/marketing work experience here in Northern California, travelled extensively, married for over 20 years and raised a family including two step-daughters (and their seven grandchildren) and a son who is now in college at Gonzaga University in Spokane. Over the years, I've kept in touch with my best friend from Kappa Chi, Lisa Caywood Keating and our three other Kappa Chi travel companions, (Diane Kennedy, Laura Francis and Jan Beckmann) who have met periodically since college graduation. With social media, I'm now connected to many Kappa Chi sisters and love catching up with everyone. I feel blessed and privileged to have experienced such a rich and rewarding college life with Kappa Chi at the center.

One great memory: Being from Kenosha, we planned our pledge/ active party at my family home. After the party, we were activated in my family home. Great memory! It brought us together as young women, proved that we could accomplish so much as “sisters” and kept our friendships alive throughout so many years. Personal Message for the Memory Book: John and I have a hobby farm on 20 acres, 30 miles from Green Bay. Tending a large garden, 50 some chickens, plus ducks and pigs keeps us busy and happy, but we don't travel much! John's still teaching drawing at St. Norbert College. I have 3 children and 8 grandchildren, ages 2-14. Looking forward to more time with them, helping John put his new masters Art curriculum online, drawing, Bible study at church, and reading everything!

What was your favorite Kappa Chi Omega tradition? Candlelight ceremonies to announce the lavaliere-ing, pinning, or engagement of a sorority member. If you had the chance to relive a single Kappa Chi Omega moment, which one would you choose? I cannot select a single moment, but I will say that the strong feeling of sisterhood between members throughout the college years was a unique and very important bond. Personal Message for the Memory Book: In 1996 I was very happy to be a part of the 13 Special Alumnae Initiates, and the 40 current Kappa Chi Omega members, who accepted Chi Omega's invitation to attend the formal chapter installation and become initiated charter members of the Beta Lambda Chapter of Chi Omega, the largest national women’s fraternity and the first NPC group on the Carthage campus. Kappa Chi Omega's transformation to Chi Omega was a wonderful opportunity that opened the doors and windows of countless possibilities for the future of Kappa Chi Omega members at Carthage, but on a national level. I am very proud to be a member of both Kappa Chi Omega and Chi Omega. I continue to believe in the importance of sorority membership and the bond it creates among members through its structure and value system - high academic and moral standards, leadership, and service opportunities. Also, I am very proud of the fact that both my daughters, Kimberly and Allison, were sorority members (Kappa Kappa Gamma) throughout their college years and they, also, treasure their sorority experiences.

If you had the chance to relive a single Kappa Chi Omega moment, which one would you choose? Several years ago, women, including our daughter Carol, came to our home with a question, Would I help them organize a sorority? We did it! Our constitution was accepted. A motto, a shield, colors, and Greek letters were presented and voted on by the charter members. Each Monday evening for twenty years we met on campus. Several other advisors served during those years. Getting to know these young women was a rewarding experience. The maturity that occurred in four years was admirable. The years I served as an advisor were truly enjoyed. It was a privilege.

It is hard to believe that we are going to celebrate 20 years next year. The new members love hearing the story of their chapters’ early years as Kappa Chi Omega. The decision to go national was a very smart move for the sorority. Our sisters have many more opportunities that the local groups do not get to experience. They love to meet Kappa Chi Omega sisters at Homecoming...be sure to visit the floor if you are ever on campus.

Be a better president Personal Message for the Memory Book: I will never forget the competition between Kappa Chis and Pi Theta girls for powder-puff football...maybe that is what gave me my spark of competitiveness and future endeavors which led to the Ironman World Championship Triathlon in Kona, Hawaii. The initiation was fun because you got to learn about everyone and got to spend a lot of time with your pledge sisters and get to know them at all the meetings and parties. Personal Message for the Memory Book: I really enjoyed being a Kappa Chi because of the friendships I made and the fun we had at parties, Formals, and even the "View". I mostly enjoyed spending time in the dorm making popcorn (in real popcorn makers) and just talking to everyone. Being the R.A. on the Kappa Chi floor was always interesting because of what we could get away with that nobody would find out about and we all still knew!

I have three children and two grandchildren; they are truly the loves of my life. I received my Masters in Education, National Board Certification, and Dayton public schools teacher of the year in 2008. My travels at this time revolve around visiting family. The friendship/ sisters of Κappa Chi Omega have been special to me for years, being involved with them while at Carthage was paramount to my success. I think of them often even though we don’t keep in constant touch.

When I was honored to be the 1st president of Kappa Chi!! Several years ago we visited the campus and Kappa Chi’s floor. I gave my sorority pin and gavel to one of the sisters on the floor. Hope it got to the sorority archives! Personal Message for the Memory Book: Jon and I will celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2016—John is a Tau Sig alumni. We’ve made 11 cross-country moves; our daughter lives in Nashville, with our two grand-dogs; our son lives in San Antonio, with our two granddaughters. We are enjoying retirement at our lake house in Tennessee, and in our “mobile condo”. Sorry to miss this occasion but we are on a two month RV journey to the West Coast, following the route of Lewis and Clarke.

Occupation (what someone pays you to do): Business owner and manager of construction supply company Occupation (what no one pays you to do, but you do anyway): Travel whenever and wherever I can, run our farms and collect vintage signs (American Pickers) What was your favorite Kappa Chi Omega tradition? My favorite tradition was the Good Pimps and the Bad Pimps while we were pledging. I was really into it, and enjoyed the planning process. I recollect that we had to do two of each. One of the Good Pimps was leaving fresh bagels and muffins on the floor for breakfast...which was nice, but the Bad Pimps... I remember driving through Kenosha with half of our pledge class crammed in the back seat of my Diesel Rabbit. It was fall; we filled my car with bags of leaves that people had left on the curb. We probably carried seven to ten bags of leaves up to the fourth floor of Denhart at midnight, layering the entire floor with at least six inches of fluffy leaves. Then, over the PA system, we played a John Denver song about "Falling Leaves" It was very funny at the time. The second Bad Pimp involved dead fish... and I should say no more about that--was it Sharon Brickner who helped me carry the fish up the elevator? I've blocked out that memory--we carried it too far, and I think the Dean was involved in my reprimand. If you had the chance to relive a single Kappa Chi Omega moment, which one would you choose? Oh my... there were so many great times, and my memories have faded, but we played powderpuff football for charity against the Pi Thetas, I think in 1978. The real Carthage Redmen practiced with us and showed us the basics of the game. I recollect that Wathy, (Kathy Wagner) was possibly dating one of the football players at the time and would look gorgeous every night as we came down to the practice area. Practice was exhausting and fun. We wore all the gear and had intimidating nicknames on our helmets....mine was Diesel. It ended up being a great game, Kappa Chi won and several of us made touchdowns. Leanne Kingsley, the other running back, made the final touchdown, a moment that will be etched in my mind forever. It was amazing! We all loved the win, there was money donated to our charities, and my love of football was fostered by the real life experience playing Kappa Chi powder-puff! Personal Message for the Memory Book: I am so looking forward to seeing some long lost friends! It will be great to catch up. The time has flown by, but in my time warped mind, it feels that it was only a few short years ago that we were at Carthage by the lake.
My husband of 27 years, Gary, and I have been blessed with two children, Kristianne, 24 years old, and Kolbe, 21. Kristianne recently graduated from University of Iowa with a Business degree and through the ROTC, commissioned into the Air Force for pilot training. She is now a Lieutenant based in Ogden, Utah and deploying overseas this October. I plan on travelling to Europe to see her and ask for all your prayers as she proudly serves her country on foreign soil. Kolbe graduates from Iowa State this May with a degree in Agricultural Business. As I type this, we are driving out to Iowa in the morning for his graduation. I will be free of college expenses, finally finished! My family has been blessed in so many ways and as the kids were growing up I was able to take them along to many wonderful destinations. This past Christmas, eleven members of our family, including my parents, traveled to Stuttgart, Germany, Prague, Budapest and finally Vienna, Austria for the spectacular New Years Eve Ball complete with ball gowns, waltzes, and castles. In 1988, Gary and I married and bought a small farm near Marengo, Illinois. We don't live there, but I have horses and raise grass fed beef cattle along with a 40 acre apple orchard. I feel that I have the best of both worlds; I can work in Chicago, live in the suburbs but can easily drive to "the Farm" to experience the peace of rural life. I need that connection with the outdoors and my animals to maintain some sense of serenity in my life. Another cool thing that I'm involved with is a hiking group of five women friends that get together to explore some of our national parks and other scenic areas. We've been doing this since 1999 and have hiked sections of the Appalachian Trail, Colorado, Glacier, Yosemite and almost every other National Park in the Lower 48. This July we are embarking on our first international trip to Banff, Canada. We now stay in cabins and hotels, a little bit of glamping as we approach middle age. I must especially thank Karen Rasmussen (Rip) '79 and Dena Schorsch,'80, fellow Kappa Chi's who started me on my travel bent. Rips family, formerly of Racine, had retired to a quaint town in southern Ireland--Clonakilty, and Rip had invited Dena and me to stay in their castle-like house in January of 1978 for Winterim. We traveled around together, drank a lot of beer, had so much fun; all under the guise of "studying the role of women in medieval Ireland" Oh my! Those were the days. I went back to Clonakilty in 2007 with my family. It was beautiful to revisit and I truly cherish the memories made almost 30 years before with my Kappa Chi Sisters. In closing, a thank you to all my Kappa Chi friends who have helped me be the person I am today. There's so many things that come to mind, it’s tough to articulate, what you all mean to me, and how we all interconnected to each other, but that’s the point- our sisterhood connects usand, no matter what, we will always be Kappa Chi's.
