faculty speaker Professor Greg Barron joined the Carthage faculty in 2017 from SC Johnson, headquartered in Racine, Wisconsin, where he held the title of senior vice president – new business development. His previous roles at the company included senior vice president – new products; senior vice president – air care and Canadian operations; and vice president and area director – Africa/Near East.

Greg Barron

He has extensive experience in marketing, sales, finance, and general management, and he has spent more than half of his career working outside the United States. Prof. Barron has shown enthusiasm for teaching, dedication to his students, and determination to bring new academic opportunities to Carthage, such as our new graduate business track in sports management. Prof. Barron is very active in community leadership. He serves as president of the Racine County Economic Development Corporation and the Racine County Opportunity Center.

senior class speaker

The winner of the Distinguished Senior Award has performed at an exceptional level in academics and has demonstrated exemplary leadership in the Carthage community and beyond. Faculty and seniors were asked to nominate graduating seniors for this award, and nominees then were required to submit a resumé and a personal statement. A group of faculty and staff reviewed the submissions, deliberated, and chose the winner.

As the winner of the Distinguished Senior Award, Kamren Smith ’20 will deliver the senior class address. During the Celebration of Scholars video award ceremony, Professor Neil Kristian Scharnick cited Kamren’s “character, drive, insightfulness, and compassion” as qualities befitting a Distinguished Senior. A finance and management major from Joliet, Illinois, Kamren has made the dean’s list every semester. In addition, he earned academic all-conference honors each season while rising to team captain as a sprinter on the men’s track and field team. Beyond the classroom, Kamren has developed into a student leader. He co-founded My Brother’s Keeper, a leadership program for men of color, and has been actively involved in a variety of organizations: Finance and Investment Club, Pi Sigma Epsilon business fraternity, Black Student Union, Alpha Lambda Delta honor society, and Carthage Activities Board.

Kamren Smith ’20

During an internship at Froedtert South, he assisted with the hospital-wide budget, which led to a full-time position after graduation as a financial analyst. Kamren also has been accepted to the Carthage master’s program in business, joining the first cohort in the new sports management track this fall.

Be Thou My Vision (Lord of All Hopefulness) Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy, whose trust, ever childlike, no cares could destroy: Be there at our waking, and give us, we pray, your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day. Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith, whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe: Be there at our labors, and give us, we pray, your strength in our hearts, Lord, at the noon of the day. Lord of all kindliness, Lord of all grace, your hands swift to welcome, your arms to embrace: Be there at our homing, and give us, we pray, your love in our hearts, Lord, at the eve of the day. Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm, whose voice is contentment, whose presence is balm: Be there at our sleeping, and give us, we pray, your peace in our hearts, Lord, at the end of the day.
