A field trip to Texas A and M Law School was an enriching expereince that offerred our class with insights into legal education, career paths in law, and the workings of the justice system Our day started with an introduction to the law school, and all students were able to engage in discussions about law with faculty and students. We felt so welcomed and are thankful that Texas A and M took the time to meet with us.
I’ve always wanted to practice law and be an attorney. I am thankful for the opportunity to visit this campus and learn more about law, and law school I really had a great time.
Akela LarzeiaGetting in to law school requires focus and dedication.
The panel discussion was very effective and provided me with additional confidence to apply after I graduate. Law school has always been a goal of our organization and we are thankful that we were able to attend the trip.

The biggest take away is that wisdom and understanding are both needed to practice law So why law? Our response would be why not law. At some point most people will need an attorney. To give back and to impact society in a positive way practicing law in the community can help the community. We are excited about the possibility of working in the law field as an attorney as well as other career paths in this field.
I was surprised to learn that it is better to simply listen before making an argument Listenings helps you to under stand and understanding helps lawyers win cases
Inajia Jefferson
Learning to listen and developing wisdom will help with law.
The biggest take away from this experience is to listen more that you speak. Every skilled attorney has the ability to listen and will respond accordingly. This is a great skill that we plan to implelement.

During the panel discussion discussion we were able to learn more about Texas A and M. The students stories were very interesting and informative. We learned that classes are not easy, to pay attention to our GPA, and to foster relationships with our peers and faculty. Faculty will provide the necessary recommendation letters so we want to work well with our teachers.
Becoming an attorney requires years of school, hard work, and dedication If I choose to become an attorney and practice law, it will require me to stick with the plan.
Zakari SmithStick with the plan so that you can graduate and practice law.
Again, what an amazing experience. We do recommend for the next class to visit Texas A and M. We look forward to attending Law School in the near future. The next field trip to Texas A and M will take place on 4/19/24. Carter will visit the the Dental School.

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is a college-readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to succeed in high school, college, and beyond, especially those that may be a first time graduate.
AVID students are college bound. Ms. Knighten works hard to ensure that each student attends college and have the opportunity for higher education.
The AVID Club allows it members to continue to learn and develop the AVID methodologies of WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading).
David W Carter High School
Students use their lunch time to study, search colleges and scholarships with guidance of Ms. Knighten, a former AVID teacher. “Although we no longer have the program, I wanted to give the seniors the opportunity to have the access of AVID as they conclude their senior year.” she states as her reason for establishing the club.
Senior Cameron Crawford testifies that he was able to keep track of graudation and college preparations.
Since our campus no longer has the class, these students participated in the club. if you are interested in AVID, maybe you can join the club too next school year. Contact Ms. Knighten with your questions and remember success is a habit that you can get with AVID.

Today, we took a field trip to Texas A and M School of Dentistry. We were able to learn about the path to become a Dentist as well as dental specialties. One of the most fascinating experiences of this trip was to learn about the paid internships for freshman students. I am interested in attending the paid internship this summer.
We learned that the building was over 113 years old. Also, Texas A & M will prepare us for Dental School. We also met a Scientist that has worked at Texas A & M since 1974. Becoming a Dentist is not impossible. Simply take one step at time. We learned that Texas A & M offers paid internships grades 9th - 12th. I plan to attend these interships and become a Dentist one day.

The field trip to Texas A&M was very engaging. I would rate this field trip a 10/10. One of the things I really enjoyed about this field trip was making a mold of teeth. This was fun because it was new experience and now I know more about what Dentist actually do. Overall, it was an excellent field trip.
