How can we leave a legacy for the next generation?
If you watched the news this past week you saw an amazing story. David W. Carter High School was on the news and our very own Mr. Jones and Mr. Chapman were highlighted. So, what was this story all about? Please read below.
Keeping up with technology, photos, images of the games captured during the school year can be very challenging Attempting to store these files requires a significant amount of hard-drive space
We have the yearbooks from year to year but all of the photos that do not make it in the yearbook are deleted So how can these images be saved and the students that work so hard to leave a legacy here at Carter High School be remembered?
Mr Chapman, Mr Jones, and members of the community stepped in to help with this dilemma
How can we create a space that will allow our scholars to remember those that have inspired greatness on our campus ? Also, how can these memories be visually represented to our student body? The leaving a legacy wall of fame was created to help in this area
Mr Jones serves as the director of the athletic department He has served as the athletic director for many years here at David W. Carter High School. I had the opportunity to interview Mr Jones This is what he has to say
The Hall of Fame is a way to honor our current students and alumni Many students have left a legacy for us here at David W Carter High School The Hall of Fame allows our students to interact with technology in a very unique and creative way. The Hall of Fame is a digital board that allows us to upload photos of various games that our current athletes and alumni play so that the legacy of an outstandingathletic programwillcontinue
Between classes and when students visit the gym they are able to see current and past students showcasing their talents and gifts. The feedback so far from the students has been very positive
Most students are fascinated by some of the older images
Chance and Adrianna stated that this Wall of Fame is a great idea for the current Carter students Layla, whose a part of the yearbook club states that seeing her work displayed on the big screenisveryrewarding Thestudentbodyisverythankfulforthe HallofFame
Our Principal, Mr. Chapman, Coach Jones, and members of the community were all very instrumental in getting this Wall of Fame for DWC High School Thank you for your hard work Mr Chapman is very involved in the community andwearelookingforwardtowhat’snext
ByLatericaHendersonOne of the best experiences in high school is to be invited to the signing day The signing day happens during 2nd semester when high school athletes make their final decision where they will attend college and continue playing the sport that they love Imagine an athlete that has been playing their sport since elementary and now they are going to college to continue their dream of heading to the league
We are excited to have several students that participated in signing day Kennedy DeHorney will attend the University of Memphis. Chance Puryear will attend SMU. Samuel Kennard will attend Texas A&M Commerce. Khylon Andrews, Dequavius Jackson, and Caleb Richardson will attend Texas College. Josiah Smith will attend Morehouse College.
The main question from this interview centered around what degree they wanted to graduate with from college Caleb stated that he will major in agricullture Khyvion hopes to major in engineering, and De’Quavious hopes to major in business We are so proud of these athletes and cannot wait to see what happends next in their sport’scareer
These athletes have many strentghts in their sports Caleb says his strenghts in baseball includes his running ability, glove work, and his ability to play any position on the field Khyvion says his strenghts involves his ability to read the defense He is one of our most exciting players to watch We are excited to see what these players will do in college Also, they can expect to see many of the carter alumni at some of their games even if we are watchning on TV
