You can register for programs in one of two ways: online at www.carson.org/ccpr or by visiting the MAC, Carson Aquatic Facility, or Community Center (between 2:30pm6:30pm).

NEW PROGRAMS

If you see this symbol, it means it is a brand new program that we have not offered before. Sign up, enjoy, then tell us what you think. We are always trying to improve our programs and offer new experiences to the community.

CANCELATION/REFUND POLICY

Refunds will be given only when a program is canceled by the Parks and Recreation Department. Canceled contract class refunds will be the responsibility of the instructor. Refunds requested for any other reason will be determined at the discretion of management and may be subject to a 10% processing fee. Refunds may take 2-3 weeks to process.

By attending any Carson City Parks and Recreation program or event, you understand that a photo of you or your family may be taken and may be used in future marketing materials. Names are not published without permission granted by the participant or the participant’s parent or guardian. If you do not wish to have your photo taken, please notify the photographer or program supervisor.

Aquatic Programs

AQUACIZE

Aquacize is a co-ed water exercise program for adults of all ages, in a friendly, energetic atmosphere. Swimming skills are not required. No music is used so the pace is relaxed. This low-impact, water exercise program will tone muscles of all parts of the body with less stress on muscles. Classes are one hour long. Drop-ins welcome.

RANGE OF MOTION

This class is designed to increase mobility and range of motion through a series of gentle, head-to-toe exercises in the 92 degree Adult Therapy Pool. These exercises are extremely low impact and are perfect for those with arthritis or who are recovering from surgery or injury. If physical limitations, injuries, joint pain, or stiffness limit your mobility and/or exercising options, this class might be just what you need. Swimming skills not required. Exercises are not cardiovascular in nature.

DEEP WATER EXERCISE

A 45-minute deep water cardio workout with music. A flotation belt is provided.

ADAPTIVE SWIM LESSONS

Adaptive swim lessons are designed for youth who have ASD, severe water anxiety, or other disabilities. Lessons are designed for children who need exra assistance and an adapted curriculum to encourage water safety. Contact Andi at aurban@carsoncity.gov to register or for more information.

DROP-IN WATER POLO

This is a casual water polo opportunity for all skills levels. It’s a fun way to get in or stay in shape. Equipment is provided. This is a drop-in program and no instruction is provided.

GROWN-UPS & GUPPIES

Making the water fun for your guppy is the most important step in preparing for swim lessons. This class is designed to acquaint adult and child with play activities and to teach some very basic fundamental skills. The course is parentdriven, under the supervision of an instructor. No registration is required. Class is limited to 12 adult/child pairs, on a first-come, first-served basis.

DROP-IN KAYAKING

Ever wanted to learn how to kayak, or to keep up with your skills during the off-season? The Carson Aquatic Facility is opening its doors to kayakers. This is a drop-in program and no instruction is provided. Please clean your kayak before entering the facility, or ask staff for access to a hose.

RED CROSS LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION

Get trained as a lifeguard today! Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is a good way to seek lifeguard employment at facilities across the country, or just take the class to learn valuable skills in lifesaving, first aid, and CPR. Participants must be able to pass a pre skills swim test. The course is a blended learning program, where some course work will be online at home and the rest will be in person.

CARSON TIGERSHARKS COMPETITIVE SWIM PROGRAM

League swimming is the best way to be introduced to the sport of swimming without the high commitment of an elite club. Leagues run on a seasonal basis, and competitions are short and fun, typically running 2-3 hours. The Carson Tigersharks emphasize stroke technique, racing, and friendships for junior swimmers (aged 5-12) and senior swimmers (aged 13-18). ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: One 25yd length of front crawl, one 25yd length of back crawl, comfortable in deep water. UNDER WATER EGG HUNT

SPONSORED BY CARSON CITY TOYOTA

The Easter Bunny is missing hundreds of eggs and they’ve been found floating on the water at the Aquatic Facility. Kids should bring their goggles and a plastic basket, bucket, or mesh bag to collect eggs. All children must have a parent/adult present and kids 7 and under must be accompanied in the water. Please wear swim attire. Swim diapers are required for children who are not yet toilet trained. Coast guard approved lifejackets will be permitted and some are available to check out. Please arrive 15 minutes early. This event is free but preregistration is required. Register at www.carson.org/ccpr. Recommended age for Tot Pool is 6 years and under. PARENT’S NIGHT OUT

Parents, do you need a night out? Parents Night Out is a way for you to enjoy a night out without your kids. Our dedicated Capital Kids staff will be providing child care (K5th) for parents who would like a night to themselves. We will be providing pizza, activities, and a movie for kids to enjoy! Hurry and sign up as there are limited spaces available.

DRIVER’S EDUCATION HOSTED BY DOUBLE R DRIVING SCHOOL

The Driver’s Education Classroom is required for teens under 18 years of age in the state of Nevada. We teach using an informative platform which consists of a DVD, worksheets, word searches, crossword puzzles, lectures, drunk goggles, practice permit test, driving videos, handouts and well as guest speakers. CARSON JR VICTORY ROLLERS

Indoor Roller Derby! Girls and boys ages 10-17 will learn the basics of flat-track roller derby in a 6 week off-skates program before joining the rest of the team on the track. New participants are not required to have any skates or gear for the first 6 weeks and skating experience is not required. Once on skates, participants will learn how to skate safely and be taught derby rules and skills. Skaters advance at their own speed to eventually land a spot on the Junior Derby team. Adaptive Recreation

The Movers & Doers program provides recreational experiences for individuals of all abilities and their families. Activities are designed to contribute to the physical, mental, social, emotional growth, and development of all individuals. GOAL GETTERS JOG, WALK & DO PROGRAM

The Goal Getters Jog & Walk program is a great way to beat the winter breeze and get your body moving. Each week participants will jog & walk at the Carson City MAC indoor track. Every lap a participant completes will be accounted for and the distance will be measured at the end of each session. As a team of Goal Getters, participants will set out to go the distance. Soccer Tots is Skyhawks flagship program! Playable on almost any surface, these soccer-themed motor skill classes are very easy for youngsters to get into. Younger age groups focus on developing motor skills and selfconfidence; older classes focus more on developing core soccer skills and personal focus, and introduce an element of light competition. Instructor-to-student ratio is kept small to maximize individual development, and above all else we promote fun, fun, fun! (Parent participation is required for participants under 4 years old.) Led by Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher Wanda La Russa, these classes combine gentle movement, breathing exercises, and meditation techniques, using a chair for support. Ideal for seniors, those new to yoga, or individuals with limited mobility due to injury or arthritis, this practice builds strength, flexibility, improves balance, and promotes overall wellbeing.

This class is taught with the senior in mind. Those grand golden years have come upon us. Retirement, golf on Saturdays and Sunday brunch with the kids. It’s just as important now as it was when we were younger, in fact more so! This class focuses on strengthening muscles used when walking and getting out of a chair; reduces fear of falling, and aids seniors in staying mobile.

DOG OBEDIENCE

If you need help in establishing good conduct and curbing bad habits, this is the course for you. Instructor Guy Yeaman’s 50 years of experience will help you teach your dog to obey all the basic obedience commands; heel, sit, stand, stay, and recall. Each dog needs a training collar (choke chain, Halti, gentle leader, etc.). Dogs must be at least 4 months old and current on their shots. Written shot records must be shown at the start of class. The Carson Victory Rollers are a player-owned & operated non-profit league. Our mission is to train and support roller derby athletes, grow the sport locally, and increase access for members and fans alike. This league values inclusiveness for all, and a roller derby environment that fosters both athletic and personal growth. As a not-for-profit organization, with the camaraderie and support of the community, they hope to give back through charity work, and provide entertainment suitable for all ages. SHiNE DANCE FITNESS AND UPLIFT STRENGTH FITNESS

SHiNE is a dance fitness workout combining current hit music and choreography to help students feel confident and strong. This high-cardio exercise combines jazz, ballet and hip hop moves with calisthenics in a HIIT format for a full-body workout.

UPLIFT combines iconic hits from decades past and present with choreographed strength routines. You’ll use weights, bands, and focused balance and mat work for a well-rounded workout. Strength training has never been so fun! Come along! It’s your time to SHiNE!

Grab some friends and stay warm indoors during those cool spring evenings with our coed volleyball league! This is a 10- game season plus postseason playoffs and is a 6v6 league. Teams must have at least 3 females on the court. (More females than males are permitted.) Registration January 12 - February 22.

SELF-PACED MARATHON

If your New Year’s resolutions include exercise, try this marathon that can be broken up at your pace and your schedule. You can walk, jog, or run. MAC staff will help track your distance. Includes a t-shirt upon completion of 26.2 miles, which is 208 laps on the MAC track. Registration December 8 - January 4.

Come and play the newest team sport Carson City has to offer! This is a 6-game season (without postseason) on Wednesday evenings. Lower competition league with an emphasis on FUN! No awards or trophies will be handed out. Registration period: April 1 - April 26.

365 ON THE 395: A SELF-PACED YEAR-LONG CHALLENGE

Are you ready for a challenge? Join us at the MAC for a year-long, virtual 365-mile walking journey on the 395 highway. At your own pace and on your own time, MAC staff will help you log the miles that you walk, jog, or run every day throughout the year of 2026. You will be able to virtually track your progress as you reach notable sights along the route from Susanville to Alabama Hills on the beautiful US Route 395. Upon completion of the 365 mile journey, you will receive a t-shirt. Registration December 8 - January 4.

CAPITAL CITY SPRING FLING DISC GOLF TOURNAMENT

Join us at the Carson Ridge Disc Golf Park for a fun tournament style round of Disc Golf. The round will include both the Pony Express and Stadium Courses for a total of 27 holes. This event is a fundraiser for the Carson City Movers and Doers program, which focuses on providing adaptive recreational activities and opportunities within our community. The Stadium course will be set up in a short layout to ensure fun for all ages and abilities! Four divisions including Open, Women, Senior (50+) and Junior (<15) with prizes donated from local businesses for top finishers in each division. Register at www.discgolfscene.com.

DINKS & DRINKS PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENT

Round-robin pickleball tournament with bracket play and medal rounds as appropriate. All ages, skill levels (2.54.5+) Carson City Parks and Recreation Department supplies a bar with beer, wine, seltzers, as well as water and hydration drinks. Proceeds from the tournament go to the Mills Park Pickleball Court Project Fund at the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation, a 501(c)(3) organization. PICKLEBALL WITH MAE: PICKLEBALL FOR ADVANCED BEGINNERS

This is a 6-session class that is meant for participants who are familiar with the basics of Pickleball. Participants will improve upon their skills in dinking, volleying, gameplay strategy, positioning, footwork, defense, etc.

PICKLEBALL WITH MAE: INTRODUCTION TO PICKLEBALL

This is a 4-session class that will introduce new players to the fun sport of pickleball. Participants will learn the fundamentals for game play including game rules, basic serving and hitting (dinks and volleys), plus proper scoring instruction.

Children will complete a flat foam sewing card cut into a shape while using a shoelace to complete their project. They can keep the sewing card for further practice. Parent/guardian required to stay with their child. Classes are 30 minutes in length.

HAND SEWING FOR BEGINNERS BOOT CAMP

Do you want to learn how to sew? In this class you will learn basic hand sewing which will include getting familiar with hand sewing safety, notions, tools, threading a needle, tying knots, pinning, eight hand stitches, three sewing techniques and a simple project. Bring a snack for a break halfway through the class. Parent/guardian required to stay with participants under 18. Additional art supplies not included.

QUILTING BASICS

The class introduces the basic skills and techniques needed to create a hand-sewn quilt block. The Quilting Basics class aims to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills to confidently create their own quilts and explore the vast and rewarding world of quilting. Parent/ guardian required to stay with participants under 18. Each class is 3 hours in length.

I CAN’T BELIEVE I’M SEWING

Come join the sewing machine class & have fun learning how to use & control your machine! Do you simply want to learn how to use your sewing machine? Did you get a sewing machine for the Holidays & it’s collecting dust because you don’t know how to use it? Do you want to learn how to use a sewing machine so you can make your own clothes or fix & mend clothes? Are you stuck trying to figure out how to finish a project because the instructions are confusing? I will teach you how to have fun controlling your machine & if possible, give you instructions on how to finish your project that is confusing. If so, this class is for you! Bring a snack for a break halfway through the class. Parent/guardian required to stay with participants under 18.

Park Ranger-Led Programs

In 1996, Carson City residents voted for the Quality of Life Initiative which created the Open Space program. Carson City now has thousands of acres of Open Space and miles of trails. Come check out Carson’s beautiful Open Space properties on one of the many interpretive hikes. They’re free and great for all ages.

WINTER WONDERLAND PATROL

Join a Carson City Park Ranger on a foot patrol of the Carson River Trail system from Silver Saddle Ranch. These unique Park Ranger adventures offer an experience similar to a Park Ranger’s daily patrols of the Carson City’s trails. Participants may be able to address safety concerns, vandalism, and anything else that comes up. You can also look forward to climate and snow discussions, in addition to how riparian habitat and wildlife persists through bitter cold.

GREAT BASIN HIKE

Ever wonder what it would be like to live in Carson City thousands of years ago? Carson City is located in the Great Basin and throughout time this area has experienced much change, from the water to the animals this land would look completely unrecognizable to us 15,000 years ago. Join a Park Ranger at the Odyssey Trail for a hike all about the history of the Great Basin and learn how this area has changed throughout time.

Join the Carson City Park Rangers to learn more about the exciting world of our feathered friends that live in Carson City! Jr. Ranger’s will spread their wings to learn about the four S’s of birding – shape, size, sound and surrounding. There will be about a half mile stroll around Mills Park as we use binoculars to identify different species. We have a limited supply of binoculars, so please bring your own.

The community is invited to Mills Park from 10:00am –2:00pm on Saturday, May 16, 2025 for the 8th annual Kids to Parks Day event here in Carson City! The celebration will include music, food, outdoor activities from local organizations, educational booths, the Junior Park Ranger Olympics! The whole community is invited to join in on this fun day of outdoor play!
