You can register for programs in one of two ways: online at www.carson.org/ccpr or by visiting the MAC, Carson Aquatic Facility, or Community Center (between 2:30pm6:30pm).

NEW PROGRAMS

If you see this symbol, it means it is a brand new program that we have not offered before. Sign up, enjoy, then tell us what you think. We are always trying to improve our programs and offer new experiences to the community.

CANCELATION/REFUND POLICY

Refunds will be given only when a program is canceled by the Parks and Recreation Department. Canceled contract class refunds will be the responsibility of the instructor. Refunds requested for any other reason will be determined at the discretion of management and may be subject to a 10% processing fee. Refunds may take 2-3 weeks to process.

By attending any Carson City Parks and Recreation program or event, you understand that a photo of you or your family may be taken and may be used in future marketing materials. Names are not published without permission granted by the participant or the participant’s parent or guardian. If you do not wish to have your photo taken, please notify the photographer or program supervisor.

YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS

Aquatic Programs

AQUACIZE

Aquacize is a co-ed water exercise program for adults of all ages, in a friendly, energetic atmosphere. Swimming skills are not required. No music is used so the pace is relaxed. This low-impact, water exercise program will tone muscles of all parts of the body with less stress on muscles. Classes are one hour long. Drop-ins welcome.

RANGE OF MOTION

This class is designed to increase mobility and range of motion through a series of gentle, head-to-toe exercises in the 92 degree Adult Therapy Pool. These exercises are extremely low impact and are perfect for those with arthritis or who are recovering from surgery or injury. If physical limitations, injuries, joint pain, or stiffness limit your mobility and/or exercising options, this class might be just what you need. Swimming skills not required. Exercises are not cardiovascular in nature.

DEEP WATER EXERCISE

A 45-minute deep water cardio workout with music. A flotation belt is provided.

ADAPTIVE SWIM LESSONS

Adaptive swim lessons are designed for youth who have ASD, severe water anxiety, or other disabilities. Lessons are designed for children who need exra assistance and an adapted curriculum to encourage water safety. Contact Andi at aurban@carson.org to register or for more information.

DROP-IN WATER POLO

This is a casual water polo opportunity for all skills levels. It’s a fun way to get in or stay in shape. Equipment is provided. This is a drop-in program and no instruction is provided.

GROWN-UPS & GUPPIES

Making the water fun for your guppy is the most important step in preparing for swim lessons. This class is designed to acquaint adult and child with play activities and to teach some very basic fundamental skills. The course is parentdriven, under the supervision of an instructor. No registration is required. Class is limited to 12 adult/child pairs, on a first-come, first-served basis.

DROP-IN KAYAKING

Ever wanted to learn how to kayak, or to keep up with your skills during the off-season? The Carson Aquatic Facility is opening its doors to kayakers. This is a drop-in program and no instruction is provided. Please clean your kayak before entering the facility, or ask staff for access to a hose.

RED CROSS LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION

Get trained as a lifeguard today! Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is a good way to seek lifeguard employment at facilities across the country, or just take the class to learn valuable skills in lifesaving, first aid, and CPR. Participants must be able to pass a pre skills swim test. The course is a blended learning program, where some course work will be online at home and the rest will be in person.

POOCH PLUNGE

HOSTED BY CASI

The Carson City Aquatic Facility is partnering with Carson Animal Services Initiative (CASI) to offer an aquatic adventure for your pups! Pets must be at least 6 months old, current on vaccinations, and friendly around other dogs that are in season. Tennis balls, extra towels and dog treats are provided. For more information, call CASI at (775) 230-5874. Proceeds support CASI.

CARSON TIGERSHARKS COMPETITIVE SWIM PROGRAM

League swimming is the best way to be introduced to the sport of swimming without the high commitment of an elite club. Leagues run on a seasonal basis, and competitions are short and fun, typically running 2-3 hours. The Carson Tigersharks emphasize stroke technique, racing, and friendships for junior swimmers (aged 5-12) and senior swimmers (aged 13-18). ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: One 25yd length of front crawl, one 25yd length of back crawl, comfortable in deep water. PARENT’S NIGHT OUT

Parents, do you need a night out? Parents Night Out is a way for you to enjoy a night out without your kids. Our dedicated Capital Kids staff will be providing child care (K5th) for parents who would like a night to themselves. We will be providing pizza, activities, and a movie for kids to enjoy! Hurry and sign up as there are limited spaces available.

GOLDEN LION TAI CHI C’HAUN & QI GONG

DRIVER’S EDUCATION HOSTED BY DOUBLE R DRIVING SCHOOL

The Driver’s Education Classroom is required for teens under 18 years of age to the DMV requirements for the State of Nevada. We teach using an informative platform which consist of a DVD, worksheets, word searches, crosswords puzzles, lectures, drunk goggles, practice permit test, driving videos, various handouts as well as a few guest speakers. Tai Chi - the ancient Chinese martial art form known worldwide for health, relaxation, and longevity benefits. CARSON JR VICTORY ROLLERS

Indoor Roller Derby! Girls and boys ages 10-17 will learn the basics of flat-track roller derby in a 6 week off-skates program before joining the rest of the team on the track. New participants are not required to have any skates or gear for the first 6 weeks and skating experience is not required. Once on skates, participants will learn how to skate safely and be taught derby rules and skills. Skaters advance at their own speed to eventually land a spot on the Junior Derby team. Adaptive Recreation

The Movers & Doers program provides recreational experiences for individuals of all abilities and their families. Activities are designed to contribute to the physical, mental, social, emotional growth, and development of all individuals. FALL BOWLING LEAGUE

Bowling is a great way to meet new friends, stay active and participate in a weekly league. Bowlers will get the chance receive a Movers and Doers Bowling shirt, play 2 games of bowling, and receive shoes while bowling, if needed. Join the fun starting September 3, 2025.

GOAL GETTERS JOG, WALK AND DO

The Goal Getters Jog & Walk program is a great way to beat the winter breeze and get your body moving. Each week participants will jog & walk at the Carson City MAC indoor track. Every lap a participant completes will be accounted for and the distance will be measured at the end of each session. As a team of Goal Getters participants will set out to go the distance.

YOUTH COED VOLLEYBALL INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM

This is an introductory instructional program to the sport of volleyball. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the basics of the sport from Carson City Recreation staff over 10 - one-hour long sessions. This program is open to all skill levels. Registration August 1 - September 29.

LITTLE SENATORS INSTRUCTIONAL

BASKETBALL

This is a great instructional program for boys and girls who are in 1st or 2nd grade. Experience is not necessary to join this program as this program is designed to teach children the proper fundamentals of basketball. Participants will practice dribbling, passing, defensive positions, and proper shooting techniques. Includes 10 sessions and a basketball to keep. Registration October 1- November 23. Carson City Parks & Recreation uniforms are required, past seasons uniforms maybe used.

YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE

The youth basketball program provides players the opportunity to develop basic skills, team play and sportsmanship. Teams are grouped by ability through our “warmups”. “Warmup” dates can be seen at www.carson.org/sports. All players are required to play a minimum amount of playing time in each game. Games are played at the MAC, Community Center and Middle Schools. Practices begin in December and games will begin in January. PRACTICE TIMES AND GAME TIMES VARY. VOLUNTEER COACHES NEEDED! Begin an athletic journey with Multi-Sport Tots! This program offers a variety of sports through fun, ageappropriate activities, enhancing balance, coordination, and fitness. SKYHAWKS SOCCER TOTS

Soccer Tots is Skyhawks flagship program! Playable on almost any surface, these soccer-themed motor skill classes are very easy for youngsters to get into. Younger age groups focus on developing motor skills and selfconfidence; older classes focus more on developing core soccer skills and personal focus, and introduce an element of light competition. Instructor-to-student ratio is kept small to maximize individual development, and above all else we promote fun, fun, fun! (Parent participation is required for participants under 4 years old.) MY TODDLER IS SEWING!

Children will complete a flat foam sewing card cut into a shape while using a shoelace to complete their project. They can keep the sewing card for further practice. Parent/guardian required to stay with their child. Classes are 30 minutes in length.

HAND SEWING FOR BEGINNERS BOOT CAMP

Do you want to learn how to sew? In this class you will learn basic hand sewing which will include getting familiar with hand sewing safety, notions, tools, threading a needle, tying knots, pinning, eight hand stitches, three sewing techniques and a simple project. Bring a snack for a break halfway through the class. Parent/guardian required to stay with participants under 18.

QUILTING BASICS

The class introduces the basic skills and techniques needed to create a hand-sewn quilt block. The Quilting Basics class aims to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills to confidently create their own quilts and explore the vast and rewarding world of quilting. Parent/guardian required to stay with participants under 18. Each class is 3 hours in length.

I CAN’T BELIEVE I’M SEWING

Come join the sewing machine class & have fun learning how to use & control your machine! Do you simply want to learn how to use your sewing machine? Did you get a sewing machine for the Holidays & it’s collecting dust because you don’t know how to use it? Do you want to learn how to use a sewing machine so you can make your own clothes or fix & mend clothes? Are you stuck trying to figure out how to finish a project because the instructions are confusing? I will teach you how to have fun controlling your machine & if possible, give you instructions on how to finish your project that is confusing. If so, this class is for you! Bring a snack for a break halfway through the class. Parent/guardian required to stay with participants under 18.

Adult Classes and Enrichment

CHAIR YOGA

Experience the calming and strengthening effects of Hatha chair yoga, designed for accessibility. Led by Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher Wanda La Russa, these classes combine gentle movement, breathing exercises, and meditation techniques, using a chair for support. Ideal for seniors, those new to yoga, or individuals with limited mobility due to injury or arthritis, this practice builds strength, flexibility, improves balance, and promotes overall wellbeing.

MUSCLE RESISTANCE TRAINING PROGRAM

This class is taught with the senior in mind. Those grand golden years have come upon us. Retirement, golf on Saturdays and Sunday brunch with the kids. It’s just as important now as it was when we were younger, in fact more so! This class focuses on strengthening muscles used when walking and getting out of a chair; reduces fear of falling, and aids seniors in staying mobile.

DOG OBEDIENCE

If you need help in establishing good conduct and curbing bad habits, this is the course for you. Instructor Guy Yeaman’s 50 years of experience will help you teach your dog to obey all the basic obedience commands; heel, sit, stand, stay, and recall. Each dog needs a training collar (choke chain, Halti, gentle leader, etc.). Dogs must be at least 4 months old and current on their shots. Written shot records must be shown at the start of class. CARSON VICTORY ROLLERS

The Carson Victory Rollers are a player-owned & operated non-profit league. Our mission is to train and support roller derby athletes, grow the sport locally, and increase access for members and fans alike. This league values inclusiveness for all, and a roller derby environment that fosters both athletic and personal growth. As a not-for-profit organization, with the camaraderie and support of the community, they hope to give back through charity work, and provide entertainment suitable for all ages. Grab some friends and stay warm indoors during those cool fall evenings with our coed volleyball league! This is a 10- game season plus postseason playoffs and is a 6v6 league. If your New Year’s resolutions include exercise, try this marathon than can be broken up at your pace and your schedule. You can walk, jog, or run. MAC staff will help track your distance. Includes a t-shirt upon completion of 26.2 miles, which is 208 laps on the MAC track. Registration December 8 - January 4.

365 ON THE 395: A SELF-PACED YEAR-LONG CHALLENGE

Are you ready for a challenge? Join us at the MAC for a year-long, virtual 365-mile walking journey on the 395 highway. At your own pace and on your own time, MAC staff will help you log the miles that you walk, jog, or run every day throughout the year of 2026. You will be able to virtually track your progress as you reach notable sights along the route from Susanville to Alabama Hills on the beautiful US Route 395. Upon completion of the 365 mile journey, you will receive a tshirt. Registration December 8 - January 4.

This Dodgeball tournament is open to any business, organization, or group in Carson City or surrounding area. Teams must have at least 6 players. This is a double-elimination tournament. Games are best of 3. Registration September 1 - November 1.

PICKLEBALL WITH MAE: INTRODUCTION TO PICKLEBALL

This is a 4-session class that will introduce new players to the fun sport of pickleball. Participants will learn the fundamentals for game play including game rules, basic serving and hitting (dinks and volleys), plus proper scoring instruction.

The second annual “ORDUNO” coed adult kickball tournament is an under-the-lights, 3-game guarantee, kickball tournament. All teams are strongly encouraged to dress in superhero themed attire. Teams must have at least 5 males and 5 females on the field to participate but may have up to 16 players on their roster. Batting order must alternate male/female. Championship winning team will win shirts! Centennial Snack Bar will be open serving food and drinks to participants 21+.

The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with Skiing is Believing on offering mountain bike and skating clinics for both youth and adults. SUMMIT CAMP - ADULT (Ages 18+)

A one day, adult, introductory to intermediate mountain bike clinic intended to hone skills and technique on the bike so you can hit the mountain biking trails full throttle, or at your preferred speed! The program focuses on fundamental to intermediate level mountain bike skills and development through a series of drills, progressions, and guided practice both on and off trails.

SUMMIT CAMP - KIDS (Ages 8-18)

A co-ed, three week mountain bike program focusing on introductory to intermediate level mountain bike skills through a series of skills, drills and progressions under the guise of BICP certified bike coaches. Intended to hone skills and technique on the bike so you can hit the mountain biking trails full throttle!

WOMEN ON WHEELS FUNDAMENTALS (Ages 18+)

During this one day mountain bike program, women will learn, practice and be introduced to the skills and positions that will make them a better more confident rider. Attendees will learn from an all-female BICP-certified bike staff, while surrounded by other supportive women who also want to improve their skills on two wheels. Learn the fundamentals or improve what you already know on the extensive trail systems in Carson City.

WOMEN ON WHEELS INTERMEDIATE (Ages 18+)

A three week progressive clinic for women focused on improving fundamental skills on the mtn. bike and taking them to the next level! Riders will learn from an all-female BICP-certified bike staff, while surrounded by other supportive women who also want to take their skills on two wheels to the next level.

GRAVITY GIRLS (ages 8-18)

A one day all-girls mountain bike clinic meant to help young girls fall in love with the sport of mountain biking as well as the alpine environment and terrain. Gravity Girls is intended to introduce biking skills and drills while developing confidence on the bike and beyond in a supportive all-girl environment.

WOMEN ON WHEELS - INLINE SKATING (ages 18+)

A four-week inline skating program, exclusive to women, preparing individuals with exercises and progressions specifically geared to improve their alpine skiing while also improving their skills on skates!

In 1996, Carson City residents voted for the Quality of Life Initiative which created the Open Space program. Carson City now has thousands of acres of Open Space and miles of trails. Come check out Carson’s beautiful Open Space properties on one of the many interpretive hikes. They’re free and great for all ages.

COYOTE WALK

It’s the time again for one of the year’s most anticipated hikes! Join the Park Rangers for an educational walk all about the coyotes! While enjoying a walk along the Carson River from Silver Saddle Ranch, you will get to learn everything about coyotes from identification to their habits and culture. If you have been afraid of coyotes while hiking in this area, this is the walk for you.

AFTER DARK CEMETERY WALKING TOURS

Join the Carson City Park Rangers for a night of spooky historical fun at Lone Mountain Cemetery! Travel around the cemetery learning about the lives and deaths of Carson's famous historical figures. This tour will be a about a one mile loop under the darkness, so prepare for some spooky happenings. A $10 donation is not required, but strongly encouraged to Lone Mountain Cemetery.

JR RANGER ADVENTURES: PAINTING IN THE PARK

Join the Carson City Park Rangers for our next Jr. Park Ranger Adventure Series – Painting in the Park! From the Cottonwood tree galley to the open pasture fields under the wide open sky, let Carson River Park spark your creativity during this outdoor art adventure. Mini easels, canvases, acrylic paint, and brushes will be provided, but feel free to bring your favorite supplies. No experience needed – just bring your imagination!
