Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space 3303 Butti Way # 9 (775) 887-2262

Message from the Director There is an increasing amount of research that demonstrates the health and wellness benefits from outdoor recreation. Studies show improvements to physical and mental health, as well as positive academic outcomes by spending just a little time each week in nature. Even though there is undeniable proof that increasing outdoor activities has numerous intrinsic benefits, surveys show a significant decrease nationwide in adults, and particularly youth, spending less and less time outside. In 1996, Carson City residents overwhelmingly passed the Quality of Life Initiative, which has preserved so many open spaces and special places throughout the capital city. With more parks per capita than the national average, Carson City offers thousands of acres of parks, trails and open spaces for you and your family to discover. This spring and summer, I encourage you to get outside and enjoy your favorite outdoor activities with the ones that you love. Challenge yourself by exploring miles of trails, participate in one of our interpretive hikes or outdoor camps - there is truly something for everyone. I look forward to seeing you out in our parks and trails this summer! Happy trails!

Carson Ridge Disc Golf Park Disc golf is played much like golf, just with a frisbee instead of a ball and baskets instead of holes. The best part about disc golf, at least at Carson Ridge Disc Golf Park, is it’s free!

Carson Ridge Disc Golf Park has been years in the making, having a soft opening in December 2019. The course, located on the corner of Flint Rd. and Rifle Range Rd., is now open to the public for play. A grand opening event will be scheduled for sometime in the spring.

The Disc Golf Park contains two separate courses, comprising a total of 27 holes. There is 9-hole family course with shorter distances to the baskets and easier terrain. The 18-hole Stadium Course is a tournament level course. The volunteers from Eagle Valley Disc Golf Association worked countless hours designing each section of the course. Disc golf aside, just walking the course is a pleasant hiking experience. The panoramic views of the Sierras and Carson City may be enough to motivate just about anyone to give disc golf a try. Disc golf sets will be available to check out at the front counter of the MAC at 1860 Russell Way. MAC hours are available on page 5.
