November 2026 CARROLL ELECTRIC MEMBERSHIP CORPORATION’S NEWSLETTER FOR MEMBERS

Members’ Spare Change Provides $135K for Nonprofits other tax-exempt entities, such as municipalities whose work benefits residents within Carroll EMC's service area. The Foundation's Board of Trustees reviews applications and evaluates each proposal based on its potential reach, implementation strategy and responsible use of funds. "I want to be sure we are good stewards of the funds entrusted to us by Members," says Karen Warren, Carroll EMC Foundation Trustee. "Although it might sound idealistic, I believe these grants can change the direction of an individual's life."

The Carroll Electric Membership Cooperative Foundation awarded more than $135,000 to 56 nonprofit organizations at its annual Impact Grant reception on August 20, helping fund projects that will meet local needs across Carroll, Haralson, Heard, Paulding, Polk, Floyd and Troup counties.

Since its establishment in 2001, the Carroll EMC Foundation has returned millions of dollars to local communities through grants, scholarships and charitable assistance programs. A complete list of this year’s Impact Grant recipients is available online at carrollemc.com/impactgrants.

Funding through Operation Round Up allows participating Co-op Members to round their electric bills up to the next dollar each month. The grants turn spare change into meaningful investments that address needs across west Georgia. The program helps organizations expand their reach and strengthen the services they provide. This year's funding cycle distributed $135,924 to projects focused on education, health and human services, civic engagement and other charitable purposes. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and

Carroll EMC Practices Emergency Response on Disaster Day Carroll Electric Membership Cooperative takes safety and storm preparedness seriously. While major storms provide real-world opportunities to activate the cooperative's Emergency Response Plan, Carroll EMC also dedicates time to training before they occur. That commitment includes its annual Disaster Day, designed to test procedures, strengthen response efforts and ensure employees are ready when the unexpected happens. To allow all employees to participate, the cooperative closes its offices for the day. Carroll EMC is the only electric cooperative in Georgia known to conduct a training event of this scale dedicated solely to preparedness. This year’s Disaster Day, held September 16, focused on emergency response coordination, giving employees a hands-on look at how different departments within the cooperative and community partners work together during critical events. Employees participated in several training sessions throughout the day, beginning with a presentation from Georgia EMC and Balch and Bingham LLP on accident and incident investigations. Additional sessions covered control center operations and 911 coordination; outage response resources and equipment; team building led by the University of West Georgia; and designated emergency gathering locations and communication procedures. The day concluded with a realistic emergency response exercise that tested employees' ability to react under pressure. During a demonstration at the training field, a lineman appeared to collapse in a bucket truck due to heat exhaustion and dehydration. Unknown to the audience, the incident was a planned hurt-man rescue scenario simulating a serious workplace emergency that could occur at any time, whether during normal operations or storm restoration efforts. Fellow crew members immediately called 911 and performed CPR while local first responders arrived on scene. The exercise involved the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, Carrollton City Fire Department, West Georgia Ambulance and life flight helicopter, allowing employees to witness firsthand how multiple agencies coordinate during a critical event. Matt Jones, Manager of System Design and co-chair of this year's Disaster Day planning committee, says the training helps employees prepare for what could happen. "At the end of the day, we want our Members safe and our employees going home to their families," Jones says. "Disaster Day gives us the chance to practice, learn and work through scenarios when every second counts.” 14B

Adjust your water heater settings to save energy. As cooler weather arrives, your water heater may be working harder to keep up with longer, hotter showers. Check its temperature setting and consider lowering it to 120°F, which the U.S. Department of Energy recommends for most households. Lowering the temperature can reduce energy use while also helping prevent scalding. Always check the owner’s manual before making adjustments. Source: U.S. Deptartment of Energy
