Exhibitor Info

Our silent auction is conducted for the benefit of BINC, the Book Industry Charitable Foundation. Bidding starts at Thursday, October 6 at 2:30 pm and ends at 11:00 am on Friday, October 7. Winners will have time to collect their items before attending the Moveable Feast. Items for the auction have been generously donated by our exhibitors. A complete list of items is available at the silent auction booth. To participate, visit exhibitors to see their auction items (look for the green bookmarks). Place your bids at the silent auction booth, where the current high bid will be on display. Winners will be announced at 11:00 am on Friday and must be present to claim their items within 30 minutes, or the item(s) will be award to the next highest bidder.

Drinks

All bars at the show (except the main Stone Arch Bar) will be redeem only tickets and not be accepting cash or check. Please purchase your tickets at the dedicated drink ticket booth in the Winter Garden.

Exhibitor Meeting

To bring our exhibitors together to review trade show logistics, there will be an exhibitors’ meeting at the end of show set-up on Thursday, October 6, at 2:00 pm at the back of the exhibit floor. You’ll receive a free drink ticket for your attendance.

Please have your FedEx or UPS shipping number on hand and pick up shipping labels at the registration desk. Leave packages at The Depot’s front desk at any time. Wendell Berry

Wendell Berry’s body of work encompasses more than 50 volumes of essays, poems, and fiction. His writing is inspired by the landscape of the Heartland, both the natural world and the people who live there. As a promoter of Localism long before the term existed, Mr. Berry has championed the both the spirit of independent bookselling and publishing. Mr. Berry’s national honors include the National Humanities Medal, a Jefferson Lecture in the Humanities at the Kennedy Center, a Stegner Fellowship, a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, and in 2013 The Richard C. Holbrooke Distinguished Achievement Award, among many others. These award-winning authors weren’t able to be present at the show. In the past, self-publishers may have posed more of a nuisance to a busy bookseller. But today, many bookstores are seeing this as an opportunity to turn authors into customers. The ways in which independent stores work with self-published authors are as unique and varied as the stores themselves. Different models for working with self-published authors will be discussed, from consignment to creating a store-specific publishing program. This not only brings new content to readers, but adds value to the entire publishing industry. This session will showcase current booksellers who have successfully built such programs and introduce you to IngramSpark, a publish-on- demand service for authors. Learn how to bridge the gap in conversations between a bookseller and author; find positive solutions for rejecting and re-directing authors; utilize IngramSpark for in-store publishing programs.

Tracks Independent Bookstore Day, held on the last Saturday of April, is a one-day celebration of indie bookstores, bookselling, and the entire literary ecosystem. At its core are exclusive, just-for-indies books and literary items from major publishers and authors. In 2016, 430 bookstores around the US participated, generating an average sales increase of 200%. Four Midwestern stores, some initially skeptical, talk with the national IBD program director about what works, what doesn’t, and why you should JOIN THE PARTY!
