As the seasons change and we welcome the beauty of autumn, I bring you the latest news and updates from the Carriage Club!
October is a month of transition, not only in our dining areas but also in our events and activities. We continue to offer an array of opportunities to enjoy your membership throughout the fall and winter months. You will not want to miss any of the events ahead for you and your family. Check your email and our website for the complete list of events. October events include Ladies Night Out on Friday, October 20, and our annual Halloween Party is Wednesday, October 27.
Dining Area Updates: All outlets are currently serving new fall menus. It is al fresco dining season, so enjoy the mild fall evenings and join us on the patio for lunch or dinner! You can view our current openings and closing below:
Main Dining Room:
OPEN for lunch, Happy Hour, and dinner Tuesday through Saturday CLOSED on Sundays and Mondays
Coach House:
OPEN for Happy Hour and dinner Tuesday through Saturday CLOSED on Sundays and Mondays
I have received several consistent questions when I walk around and hear… “Hey, David”. The top question is how many members do we have? Answer: Current membership is 650 with a net loss of 26 year-to-date. In comparison to the same time last year, we lost 28 members. The budget forecast is a net loss of 30 for the year. On the flip side of this coin, we have had 16 new members join. The next big question I’m asked is when will construction start? Answer: We plan to begin construction at the end of the pool season (September 2024) with a completion timeframe of approximately 11 months. This is an exciting time for the Carriage Club, and I want to ensure you are informed during the entire process. I am always happy to answer any of your questions or concerns
Holiday Bookings: The word is out about our excellent service, hospitality, and cuisine. We are booked for the entire month of December except for the 21, 22, and 23! We appreciate you hosting your events at the Carriage Club and look forward to serving you. Please contact Becca Rice for any banquet needs.
Fun Fact: It has been one year since the Club started composting, and to date, we have diverted 20,000 lbs of waste from the landfill!
See you at the Club, David North
As I write this note to our membership, I am eagerly looking forward to cooler temperatures in Kansas City this week Fall weather just doesn’t seem like it can come fast enough after a sweltering summer with heat index readings that broke all-time records. Carriage Club shines in the winter months as the Club comes alive with hockey, figure skating, and my new favorite activity- platform tennis. This year, we expect ~175 skaters to compete in hockey based on existing and projected registrations. I am particularly proud of the development of our girls hockey program, with 40+ skaters registered for the ‘’23/’24 season, including 23 under the age of 10. For those that are unaware, Carriage Club has worked with other local hockey programs and the KCYHA to offer our families and kids opportunities to form teams that allow them to compete at different levels with skaters of similar ability. While this hasn’t been easy given old rules under the KCHA (Kansas City Youth Hockey Association), we are excited by the increased flexibility offered to our Club That said, “house league”, or teams made up exclusively of Carriage Club members that play the other 4 local hockey clubs will remain the top priority given the bond such hockey creates among our member community and with the Carriage Club itself. Though Kelsey has taken a position outside of Carriage Club more closely aligned with personal interests, she will continue to lead the figure skating program of ~150 skaters this winter which will, of course, culminate in the famous Ice Show at the end of the season. As a dad with three girls that have participated in the figure skating programs nearly their whole lives, I can’t encourage other members enough to take advantage of our wonderful skating culture and a whole new set of friendships that otherwise may not exist. Registration for both hockey and figure skating remains OPEN!
Turning to another topic, the Construction and Design Committees continue to work hard in conjunction with our project team and staff to refine the conceptual drawings presented to our membership (and available under the “Resources” tab of our member portal. This group is tasked with determining the best possible use of limited space. Though larger than the current Coach House with additions to the east, west, and north, every decision to increase space allocation for one purpose is met with the necessity to reduce space for another. We are laser focused on both increasing capacity/quality for fitness and dining- highly visible improvements- while simultaneously improving our staff’s ability to serve our members. The latter set of improvements and updates to mechanical infrastructure will be less visible but highly important to the staff’s ability to create a positive member experience (new offerings, shorter wait times, etc.).
On a final note, I would like to thank the 60+ members the voluntarily pre-paid the 5-year assessment at a 15% discount, providing increased project flexibility in the early years of our program. If you determine you are interested in this program, please contact Leslie Zisner or David North.
Until next month,
Erik Becker, President
