A MINUTE WITH OUR GENERAL MANAGER Hello Carriage Club Members, We are off to a great start completing our administrative team! I would like to announce that we have hired a new Communication and Membership Director, Susan “Suzy” Muller. She comes to the Carriage Club with many years of experience and a willingness to be part of our team. The Executive Chef search had a great response of qualified culinarians, and we are in process of selecting the right candidate for The Carriage Club. I am extremely excited and anticipate positive movement in our culinary program in the coming months. Dining is one of the top concerns identified in the survey and by the majority of comments I have received. Get ready… we are going to move the needle on your dining experience. The biggest change in our budget for 2022 across all departments was the cost of labor. Keeping and attracting new employees increased our budgeted payroll. This was touched on last month as well, but it is one of the biggest concerns/changes with the 2022 budget. More than once, I was approached by members inquiring about how much we pay our service/wait staff. When a topic has been asked repeatedly, I address it in the newsletter to make this concern transparent to everyone. The average hourly rate over the last three pay periods was over $20/hr. The club pays a base wage of approximately $12/hr (based on experience) PLUS a service charge of the sales during the shifts the service staff worked during the pay period. Our rate of pay is consistent with being at the top of the clubs in the area if not the best. We are still working on bids for the Pilates/Card room floor. No news at this time, as it is difficult to have contractors come out to bid due to staff shortages in this field as well. Vigilance and patience… we will have progress soon on this repair. The last scheduled day for the ice rink is March 6th and the season is winding down. It takes a great amount of effort to keep it running and safe. BIG shout out to maintenance and activities departments for all they do behind the scenes. Thank you, James Wolf, Bret Miller, and their crews! Ice sets The Carriage Club apart from all the other clubs during this time of year. Our Kitchen and Food/Beverage departments also need a shout out for their dedication throughout January. COVID caused over half our service and kitchen staff to be out and with no other options, we had to limit our foodservice. It was a challenge, and we are grateful for their dedication. Special thanks to Alec Swall and team for stepping up in the kitchen, Courtland, Rebecca, and all the staff who worked tirelessly to maintain foodservice for you during this time. Everyone is on the mend and our staff is 90% back and ready to serve. February is full of events from Valentine’s Day Events to the Ice Show. Be sure and check your emails and the club calendar for all the details. At the end of January, the BOD and the strategic planning committee started the work with Bill McMahon, McMahon Group, to develop The Carriage Club’s strategic plan. I am excited to collaborate with the BOD and David North accomplish the goals developed to ensure The Carriage Club is on the path for continued success. General Manager See you soon at the Club. HE CARRIAGE CLUB Regards, David
A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT Tracey Lewis Board for Directors, President THE CARRIAGE CLUB
Carriage Club Membership, Every year the Carriage Club Board relies on the Finance Committee to build help a budget to make sure club revenues meet those expenses of the club. As members your monthly fees are divided into two categories, membership dues and capital dues. This year the finance committee has recommended dues increase to address increases expenses in labor, costs of goods, and deferred maintenance with our club. We saw a broad increase in operational expenses of 8% which means your membership dues will increase the same amount. Your capital dues will increase 15% to allow us to address deferred maintenance and improvements of our facilities. These increases are applied to keep up with the current rise in the cost of our core services. The blended increase of these expenses is slightly less than 10%. We have checked with our pears to make sure these increases are comparable, or below to similar clubs in our area. You will find these increases in your March dues which will be in your April statement. You will also see minor increases in lesson fees in associated with the pool and the ice rink. I believe that two things, our collective investment in our club as well as the impending direction from our newly initiated strategic plan, will help our club’s community realize a greater value for our membership in the future. We thank you for your support of the club as a member and we are looking forward to a great 2022. Tracey Lewis The Carriage Club Board of Directors- President
