PROVIDING OUTSTANDING SOCIAL EXPERIENCES THAT EMPHASIZE FRIENDSHIP, FUN AND GOODWILL WHILE ENJOYING THE CLUB’S PREMIER DINING AND RECREATIONAL FACILITIES.

A MINUTE WITH THE GENERAL MANAGER Swim and Dive Champs were our buzzwords for the month of July. Since we are still receiving positive feedback as hosts of the 2022 Dive Champs, I am passing on it was a success and our club’s services for this event shined bright. Our team finished in 6th place overall, but we were number one in service. We are already gearing up for Swim Champs next year! My biggest news is that we completed the culinary brigade turnover with the best of the best from the KC area. Chef James has established a solid team consisting of Twawn Bui, Executive Sous Chef (from The Crossroads Hotel); Jenell Domoney, Banquet Chef; and Robert Cooper, Clubhouse À la Carte Kitchen. Each of these chefs brings their love of food and enthusiasm to keep the Carriage Club culinary experience second to none. We want to ensure that Carriage Club is at the top of your list to dine with your friends and family. The college students will be heading back to school soon, which means service staff positions are open for the end of the swim season and to prepare for Ice Season; it's hard to imagine cold weather, but it will be here before we know it! Kudos: Nothing makes me prouder of ALL our staff than to hear this quote over and over again: “This is the best 4th of July we have ever had, and we have been coming for a long time!” Members continually stop me and let me know how great all our events have been. I would summarize the 4th of July experience as a “Best Yet” experience. As with all the events, we are looking to improve and keep the excitement going. I hope to see everyone at the back-to-school pool event on August 14th. We are also looking forward to our Ladies Day at the Pool on August 26th, which already has the largest turnout yet in regards to RSVPs. Coming Up: I hope that you will join us at our Town Hall Meeting on August 25th at 5:30 PM in the Clubhouse. I will be speaking alongside President Jeff Hargroves and Vice President Erik Becker as we go over Club business, plans for the future, and answer any pressing questions you may have. As a final note, we kindly ask members with children under the age of 18 to ensure that their children are not using the 18-and-older lounge. We have had multiple issues over the summer, and this must stop immediately. The Carriage Club prides itself on multiple areas to serve our members and we appreciate your attention to adhering to the rules to make your time at the Club the best it can be. A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT Greetings, I hope you are having a wonderful summer and finding some respite from our Midwest heat waves. For all the families with participants in the swim, dive, and tennis programs – I hope this has been a rewarding summer experience that provided joy, memories, and personal progress for all the children and teens. We are so blessed to have such great support to create many successful experiences. Our coaches, pros, pool and tennis staff, and all the departments who support all things pool and tennis-related, excelled at providing a consistently high-level experience. Fortunately, we also benefit from a traditionally strong family/parent structure that helps carry out many important aspects of these programs. Beyond the traditional swim and dive programs, you probably noticed that our Carriage Club hosted this year’s Dive Champs for the city. We can all be proud of the way our club looked and performed during this event. Beyond our coaches and staff, we should salute the many volunteers who started on this journey approximately a year ago to create this success. Jamie Berg led the procession of all things related to Dive Champs with her clarity of vision of what success looked like and the grace with which she communicated with all involved along the way. So many others gave significant amounts of time and talents to make this event a success, including these committee chairs and other key roles: Beth O’Bryan - Volunteers; Ali Begnaud & Melissa Bowles – Landscaping; Buffy Gunter & Jay Klumpp - Text Casters; Shelley Copaken & Heather Pluard – Awards; Joe Zwillenberg & Robby Robinson - Emcee/Announcers; Mindy Wilson – Program; Sylvia Haverty, Shannon Thrun & Sally Sallee - Hospitality/Décor; Ann Long – Seniors. Thank you to these great people and all the other members who helped make this event a success! Continuing our newly established tradition, we will have a semi-annual “Town Hall, State of the Club” meeting on August 25th, at 5:30 p.m. Please join us to learn about the current and planned activities that drive our club. Details will come out soon and we hope you will join us – in person or virtually. We still have a good amount of time left in the summer to enjoy our club's many amenities. I hope to see you around the Club,

Jeff Hargroves Jeff Hargroves President Board of Directors

HOW CAN PILATES HELP ME?

How does Pilates help you achieve this? See below: Pilates helps you strengthen your core, which improves posture so you are able to stand straighter versus hunched over. You can attain a neutral, aligned body with proper Pilates exercises, which helps tremendously with balance. Pilates focuses on strengthening and improving the flexibility of the feet. If you don't have a strong, neutral footing, it will be very hard to have good balance. Pilates has all kinds of exercises specific to balance. If you would like to experience these exercises, the Carriage Club Pilates Studio will be hosting a Balance Workshop on Saturday, August 27 from 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM. Information can be found below, and you can sign up to attend through Sign-Up Genius. Scan the QR code on the right to register! If you have questions, please contact Lisa Cherepak via email lisa@thecarriageclub.com or (913) 219-7779.

Pilates Balance Workshop SATURDAY, AUGUST 27 · 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Learn how to improve your balance so you can standup paddleboard, hike a mountain, or simply walk in an upright position. We will practice footwork and do some selfmassaging while learning how Pilates can enhance your balance by strengthening your core, ankles and feet, all while aligning your spine. Instructor: Lisa Cherepak, Pilates Manager (15 years Pilates & 2 years Rehab Specialist experience)

PILATES NEWS

It's all about balance! Numerous studies have shown that Pilates exercises can improve balance with an effective increase in muscle strengthening and specific balance training. Having good balance means that you can control your body's position whether you are moving or simply standing still.

PLEASE WELCOME OUR NEW FOOD & BEVERAGE DIRECTOR

Chris Romero

Hello fellow members, my name is Chris Romero. I am excited to be the Carriage Club’s newest Food & Beverage Director! I am originally from Denver, CO (and yes, I am a Denver Broncos fan). I have lived in a lot of places due to my father being in the Air Force. We made Wichita, KS our home in the early 2000s. I attended Newman University on a bowling scholarship and received my bachelor’s degree in Business Management. Prior to arriving at the Carriage Club, I was with Wichita Country Club since 2010. My

mother worked in HR and the club needed extra help for a big wedding. I worked at that wedding and worked there ever since. I worked my way up to management in 2015 where I was the Banquet Manager. Throughout the years I have done mostly Banquets but also was the Dining Room Manager, Beverage Manager (throughout Covid), and recently was the Pool Manager before I left in July. I am looking forward to using my expertise to increase our service in the food and beverage program here at the Carriage Club. I am joined here in KC with my beautiful wife of 5 years, Kristen, and my 2 wonderful sons, Phillip & Johnathan. We are very excited to be here and to see what great things Kansas City has to offer. I’m always trying to learn more about our industry through reading material or traveling around town to see what other clubs, restaurants and bars are doing. I have recently been investing my time with wine since I am looking to take the Introductory sommelier course hopefully by next year. I will also tell you I am really into whiskey. My wife will tell you I have a nice collection of whiskey that never stops growing. Outside of work I like to play golf, bowl (even though I haven’t bowled in years), and just be with my family and friends! I await the opportunity to meet all of you, Chris Romero christopher@thecarriageclub.com (816)-363-1310 ext. 347
