More than high school. Her School.

Our Mission

Carondelet High School inspires excellence by preparing young women to live with heart, faith, and courage in the Catholic tradition and spirit of the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Our Vision

A Carondelet graduate is empowered by her Catholic, college-preparatory education and is known as a woman who responds to the needs of the times and makes a positive difference.

Our Values

Our values of heart, faith, courage, and excellence help to guide our students as they: lead with heart, grow in faith, advocate for others and empower one another with courage, and pursue excellence in school and in the world.

Our History

Carondelet High School was founded in 1965 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet at the request of Bishop Floyd Begin, the first bishop of Oakland. In the tradition of their congregation, the Sisters responded to the needs of the Church by establishing the only Catholic secondary school for young women in Contra Costa County.

Her Learning

An All-Girls Education

For the first two years, students benefit from all girls classes, which help them find their voices and grow in confidence. Through our unique partnership with De La Salle High School, they then have the opportunity to further develop their strengths in a co-ed setting, allowing them to practice and refine their voices in a diverse social and academic community.

At Carondelet, our young women are center stage. She learns to speak out and advocate for herself and others from the day she starts high school.

80% 80% of all-girls school graduates consider their academic performance as highly successful.

Girls’ school students also show more confidence compared to girls in coeducational schools, and typically do better academically and are more likely to study STEM subjects than girls in coed schools.

Dedicated Teachers & Staff

We understand the impact that we have on our students and we take that responsibility very seriously. Our caring, close-knit team of teachers and administrators collaborate each day to bring out the best in each student.

All girls school graduates are 6x 6x more likely to consider majoring in math, science, and technology compared to girls who attended coeducational schools.

College Preparatory Curriculum

Inside the Jean Hofmann Center for Innovation where students are encouraged and inspired to learn, collaborate, and broaden their skills in new ways.

Compared to coeducated peers, girls’ school graduates are 3x 3x more likely to consider engineering careers.

Personalized Attention

We offer personalized learning strategies and pathways developed to meet individual student needs. Through various support programs, we give our students every advantage to succeed in the classroom, in the community, and in life.

Our curriculum develops student self-advocacy, creative problem solving, collaborative learning, varied forms of self-expression, and the ability to communicate effectively. We stay at the forefront of best practices for girls’ education, continuously reassessing the tools and skills young women need to become confident, entrepreneurial, resilient, career-ready leaders in our dynamic world.

Sisterhood THE CARONDELET

We are a proud, supportive Sisterhood. We motivate each of our students to aim higher, take on new challenges, and feel part of something greater than herself. This Sisterhood has created an inclusive environment that embraces all students, welcomes diversity, and values social justice, empathy, gratitude, and service to our dear neighbor.

Our Catholic Foundation

At the heart of Carondelet is our Catholic tradition, rooted in the mission of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph (CSJ): to create an inclusive environment that embraces all students, welcomes diversity, and values social justice, empathy, service, and gratitude.

Carondelet students learn the skills they need to make their faith actionable, picking up on the traditions handed down by the Sisters of St. Joseph in addressing real world issues. Our curriculum helps our students to identify what it means to live with Heart, Faith, Courage, and Excellence. We integrate these measures into all aspects of the school with the expectation that our students will graduate ready to respond to the needs of the times and make a positive impact in the world.

Our Charism

In the spirit of our founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph, we embrace our charism of “unifying love” and our mission “to serve the dear neighbor without distinction.” This belief is at the heart of everything that we do.

Her Faith Journey

Students don’t just deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith and gospel values: they put them into practice.

Through retreats, immersion trips, and service opportunities, students are able to nourish their faith and their expressions of spirituality.

Liturgies and Prayer

There are several liturgies and prayer services held throughout the school year. Students are invited to become lectors, Eucharistic ministers, liturgical dancers, music ministers, and to offer spiritual reflections.

Retreats

The retreat program is designed to offer our student community time to reflect, rest, and bond with self, others, and God. The charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph and the Carondelet mission is woven into the themes of each retreat.

Social Justice &Immersions

Many opportunities to create a more just community and world are available to students. The church’s tradition of Catholic Social Teaching, a consistent ethic of life, and the CSJ charism provide the framework for the opportunities and emphases of our Social Justice program.

Service Opportunities

Students have the opportunity to collaborate with their peers and gather together to serve the local community. Students eager to volunteer are encouraged to learn about local agencies that our students frequently partner with. Logging service hours allows students to become eligible for service awards and membership to honors societies.

Her Athletics

Carondelet is a place where young women enjoy the opportunity to develop athletic abilities consistent with the highest standards of leadership, sportsmanship, academic scholarship, and school tradition. Our mission to live out our values of heart, faith, courage, and excellence remains at the core of our athletic ideals.

Her Wellness

The Cannon Wellness Center opened its doors to students in January 2023. The Cannon brings wellness to the forefront of our community, providing a comforting environment where students can connect with wellness counselors, utilize designated TeleHealth rooms, reset in the Gratitude Garden, or join in wellness activities such as painting, arts and crafts, and journal making.

Our wellness counselors provide programming for students around key social and emotional health topics, including: stress management and mindfulness, communication, healthy relationships, and responsible social media use.

Her Future

We strive to create a positive environment that gives students the tools they need to be successful in college and beyond.

College Counseling

Our student-centered college counseling program is rooted in Carondelet’s core values of educating young women to live with heart, faith, courage, and excellence.

College counselors encourage students to discover their interests, strengths, and values to make the most out of their high school years. As students begin the college application process, we support them in their pursuit of post-secondary plans that match individual goals and priorities.

Our Roadmap

The Carondelet approach to college counseling is to identify goals for each grade and help guide students through the college exploration process.

9th Grade: DISCOVER

Students try something new, discover an interest, get involved.

10th Grade: EXPLORE

Students deepen commitments and further academic interests.

11th Grade: THRIVE

Students begin their college search in earnest, learning valuable skills that will serve them in college and beyond.

12th Grade: LAUNCH

Students feel confident in applying to college and receive guidance and feedback along the way.

With the help of our College Counseling team, our rising seniors get a great start on their college applications and essays. Later in the year, seniors will share their essay drafts with college admissions officers, practice for college interviews, and receive help filling out the Common and UC applications.

College Counseling hosts “Road to College” nights where students interactively learn about the application process from college admissions officers. The night concludes with a small college fair, in which students can speak with college representatives to learn more about their options.
