It’s an exciting time at Sullivan Hills Camp. For the third year in a row, donors have stepped up and are paying for a significant portion of the camp fee for anyone who wants to attend Sullivan Hills Camp. In fact, one congregation, United Church of the Plains (UCP) in Dalton has contributed a generous $20,000 to support Sullivan Hills Camp. Pr Eric Alm, from UCP said, “Sullivan Hills is an extremely affordable, beautiful, and local outdoor ministry with superb staff, an outstanding facility, and strong leadership. It is wonderful to have such a close, local option for engaging, exciting, and faithdeepening outdoor ministry! “

Because of this gift and many others like it, all Sullivan Hills Camp sessions are again just $50 per session in 2016!
Thank you to those who have gathered annually at Sullivan Hills Camp for the potluck, fellowship and Quilt Auction. Thank you to those who have joined us at Chappell Golf Course for our annual Camp Classic. We’ve had a lot of fun and raised a lot of dollars to support the mission of Sullivan Hills. Through the years you were there to support, to attend, and to pray for both of these events.

It has come time to try something new. On Saturday, June 18th we invite you to come support us at our inaugural The Heart of the Hills - a benefit for Sullivan Hills Camp at Country Inn & Suites in Sidney. We will have good food, fun speakers and a great time. This event aims to gather our wonderful community of supporters to come together in a new and exciting way. Individual seats are $50 each and a table of 8 is $400.

Throughout the week at camp, campers and staff will learn what it looks like to be a follower of Jesus. In a world telling us that we need the biggest and the best to succeed, and that only the strong will prevail – Jesus shows us a completely different way of living. When we follow Jesus, often our world is turned ‘Upside Down’ and we are called to do things that pull us out of our comfort zone. During the week together, we will learn about how Jesus calls us to feed, forgive, pray, serve humbly, and love our neighbor.
Generosity Makes a Difference Kermit and Marge Nelson of Dalton, NE always have been special friends of Sullivan Hills Camp. They were the first people to make a donation to help Nebraska Lutheran Outdoor Ministries launch the camp after the land had been donated by Lillian and Lester Sullivan. NLOM’s Executive Director, Dave Coker, visited with them in their home to request that first gift in 1995. He said, “I’ve never met another couple more in love with each other than Kermit and Marge. I am so thankful that I got to know them.” After making that first gift, the Nelsons continued their generous financial support of Sullivan Hills every year. Marge put it most simply when she said, “We wanted to help young people.”

Sullivan Hills UFO (UnFinished Objects) Retreats have become a sought-after event. Our Spring retreat was FULL and the Fall retreat is nearly full already! It’s a great time to spend away with friends and get caught up on projects, relaxation and fun! There is no leader for these retreats. Participants bring their own projects.

Kermit’s gift will help subsidize camp fees so Sullivan Hills can continue to offer children a week of camp for only $50. Coker shared, “We are so thrilled to see Sullivan Hills running near capacity since donors made it possible for us to drop the fee so dramatically. It means that children, who would have never had the opportunity to attend camp, get to have a fun and faith-filled experience.”

Kermit passed away in 2015 at 97 and Marge has moved to a care facility in Sidney. Not long after Kermit’s death, NLOM learned that Sullivan Hills would receive a gift of $10,000
from his estate. The Nelson’s daughter, Gwen Johnson, said that her father had always been generous. “He cared about children. Dad lost his father when he was only ten and his mom raised eight children. People rallied around them to help. That impacted Dad’s generosity to others.”
