Then Je sus sai d, “He w ears to ho has hear, let him hear .” -Mark 4:9 We will learn many exciting things together! Through the power of storytelling, we will hear the Bible tell us what God’s Kingdom is like. Jesus told stories called parables to make God’s word easier to understand. • God’s generous gift of grace isn’t based on anything that we do but on the fact that God loves us. • God treasures and cares for us no matter what we do. God’s Kingdom isn’t only at camp – it is everywhere in the world. • The world and its people have many needs; there are many ways we can help. • Wherever we are, our smallest acts of good can help grow God’s Kingdom.

Discover God’s Kingdom with us! Greetings from the special place known as Sullivan Hills! Whether you’ve never been to camp or have come so many times you’ve lost count, Sullivan Hills Camp is a worthwhile experience for anyone to have. When I think of the benefits of camp, the word ‘growth’ comes to mind. Sullivan Hills Camp is a place where spiritual and emotional growth happens. Children gain independence and a heightened feeling of overall confidence as they try new things. The Sullivan Hills program is a community of new and old friends participating in safe and exciting activities. Each day is full of active adventures in our beautiful outdoor setting. We have summer programs for all ages, including adults – find the right one(s) for your family and give us the honor of being part of your life journey! We have an amazing God who loves us to a degree that we can’t fully understand! God’s Kingdom is all around us in the natural beauty at camp. No matter how many times we’ve been to camp, there are always new and amazing things waiting to be discovered – new friends, new experiences, new trails, and new insights about God.

Wide Open Spaces

The facilities and staff at Sullivan Hills Camp combine to create a safe and friendly environment that meets campers’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

The Homestead The Homestead is the program hub at Sullivan Hills. It is a unique blend of old and new that encourages fun, friends and adventure. Facilities on The Homestead include Heiliger Dining Hall, the shower house, worship sites and outdoor gathering spaces. The most recent addition, the Buckley Retreat Center, provides staff and campers with modern housing including airconditioning and shelter from the weather.

Filsinger Pond Filsinger Pond is located on the edge of The Homestead. This one-acre pond is the site of much splashing, laughing, praying and singing. Campers learn to paddleboat, kayak and fish during the day and worship by candlelight on the pond’s island at night.

Time at the Swim Tank The swim tank is a unique Sullivan Hills favorite! Campers will love cooling off each day as they splash and play with friends in the tank.

Exploring Sullivan Hills Camp Campers will enjoy God’s creation as they explore Sullivan Hills’ 640 acres. They can take a hayrack ride around camp or hike to the cross at Shepherd’s Lookout, the prairie dog viewing blind or spend time at the archery range or the covered wagons.

Summer Ministry Team Each year Nebraska Lutheran Outdoor Ministries hires more than 65 college-age adults for a summer of learning, growing, fun, challenge, and friendship to be our Summer Ministry Team. Staff participate in ten days of extensive training to learn about Lutheran theology, safety, Bible study, teaching techniques, age characteristics, age-appropriate camp activities and all the ins and outs of camp life. The Summer Ministry Team then spends their summer caring for campers, sharing their faith and gaining valuable life skills at multiple program sites, including Sullivan Hills.

Middle School Confirmation Camp

This program at Sullivan Hills offers youth a chance to get out of the classroom and experience camp with their confirmation pastor or leader. New to 2012, Week 4 confirmation camp is only for kids who come with their confirmation group. Week 6 is open week, open for everyone! Confirmation groups meet in the morning to do Bible study and faith-based activities with staff. The middle school program gives kids the opportunity to participate in all their camp favorites including Water Olympics and the new high ropes course.

Open Week

Open week at Sullivan Hills gives Middle School students the opportunity to meet new friends and learn about God in a fun and safe environment. Grow in your faith through conversation, study, worship, prayer and TAWG (Time Alone With God). Have fun with new friends, enjoy a sleep out and learn how to go geocaching.

Senior High Programs

9th-12th grades

Mini Week at SH

Senior high youth often leave camp with a closer relationship with Christ, a new understanding of their unique gifts, lifelong friendships and great memories. All senior high programs are full of action-packed programming such as hikes, campfires, hayrack rides and water olympics but still give these young adults lots of opportunity to choose their own adventure!

Adventure Camp at CJH

Spend a week challenging yourself on the high ropes courses at Carol Joy Holling in Ashland, NE. Scale a climbing wall. Try scuba diving with trained instructors, relax in a canoe on an area lake, and go geocaching at a state park. This experience will physically challenge you, provide opportunities to build relationships and develop your faith. Housing Campers will stay at the Whispering Winds site at CJH, where you’ll stay in a platform tent with other campers your age and a counselor.

Colorado Backpacking Trip

Come with us as we load up the backpacks, travel the trails, and sleep under the stars to truly experience the beauty of the Colorado Rockies. Skilled backpacking guides will lead our group through the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area, just west of Boulder, Colorado. The trip ends with a rafting trip on the Cache La Poudre River with certified river guides. The trip includes transportation, food, skilled instructors, camping equipment and a t-shirt. Participants are responsible for their own backcountry clothing and sleeping bag. The trip begins and ends at Sullivan Hills Camp. Participants will receive pre-trip information with packing lists and departure times.

Housing Policy Campers may request to be housed with a friend during their stay. We discourage housing larger groups of friends because it limits their ability to meet new people. Use the space on the registration to request one housing mate. Assignments are made prior to the camping session; requests cannot be guaranteed.

Equal Opportunity Policy Rules for acceptance and participation in the program are the same for everyone without regard to race, color, national origin, disability, age or sex. Any person who believes he or she has been discriminated against in this program should write to: Administrator, Food and Consumer Service, 3101 Park Center Drive, Alexandria, VA 22302. Inclement Weather Sullivan Hills has its own below-ground storm shelter. During times of inclement weather, NLOM staff monitor weather conditions at all times. We move campers to storm shelters when weather threatens.

No Child Turned Away Policy Sullivan Hills Camp’s policy is that no child will be turned away because of the inability to pay their camp tuition. If your child(ren) need a partial or full camp scholarship, please call Mary Bower toll free 1-888-656-6254.

Campers With Special Needs Contact us if the camper has specific needs such as hearing or visual impairments, learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, physical/behavioral challenges, emotional concerns or special medical considerations. There may be individuals we cannot accommodate because of site or facility limitations or individual needs that are beyond our scope of care. An honest profile of your child is necessary so we can provide the best possible experience. NLOM encourages integration of campers with disabilities as appropriate. Parent Resource Parents – check out www.sullivanhills.org for helpful hints for kids as they come to camp as well as helpful hints for parents as their kids go off to camp.
