Teachers, apply for a Bright Ideas grant; applications open April 1

Surry-Yadkin Electric Membership Corporation is partnering with outstanding educators to bring creative learning to life! Starting this month, teachers can apply for a Bright Ideas education grant of up to $1,000 to fund projects that enhance student success in K-12 classrooms and would otherwise not be possible. Applications and more information about the program can be found at ncbrightideas.com .

Grants are available in all curriculum areas including art, science, history and mathematics.

Equally as exciting is the expansion of services provided by Hugh Chatham Health. In January, the team opened a new physician practice, Hugh Chatham Health – Family Medicine and Obstetrics. The vision behind opening the new facility was to

Bright Ideas grant applications will be accepted through Sept. 15, but teachers are encouraged to apply early. Those who submit their application by Aug. 15 will be entered to win one of five $100 Visa gift cards.

Once the deadline closes, applications will be blind-judged by a team of retired educators from the Surry-Yad- kin EMC service area. Grant recipients will be awarded during surprise visits to their schools. offer a one-stop-shop for all members of the family who require healthcare. OB, newborn, pediatric, and adult patients can all be seen at the new facility. Three family medicine and obstetrical care physicians serve the practice, Meg Arboleda, MD, Brianna Hitchner, DO, and Jona Lamphier, DO. Arboleda and Hitchner are new providers for Hugh Chatham Health, and Lamphier has been with the facility for almost three years.

Supported by all 26 electric cooperatives in North Carolina, Bright Ideas grants have contributed $15 million to N.C. classrooms, funding a total of 14,200 projects that have benefited well over 3.5 million students statewide since 1994.

Urgent Care in Elkin. Both clinics are open seven days a week, offer extended hours, and walk-ins are welcome with no appointment necessary. Treatment of common conditions, such as minor illnesses and injuries, as well as occupational health services are offered at both clinics.
