I am the only child of two wonderful parents. My mother is a retired school administrator, and my father is currently the Economic Development Director in my hometown of Oxford. I am originally from Houston, Texas, and most of my family still lives there.

Lumbee

EMC Communications Specialist David Spencer presented his challenges in finding his way to success and how he overcame them at Richmond Community College as part of the college's Minority Male Success Initiative (MMSI). Students had the opportunity to speak with Spencer afterward and receive an autographed copy of his book, "Dark Skin American."

The MMSI platform promotes inclusion for minority males by minimizing barriers and issues and providing avenues to leadership development, academic enhancement, and achieving educational outcomes. The central goal is to help students be successful in their collegiate careers and produce graduates with high academic achievement and preparedness for transfer and employment.
