Keeping the holidays merry and BRIGHT

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house The fridge and freezer were running, as quiet as a mouse; The lights on the tree, placed with tender care, Shown brightly for reliable power was all around there;

The children were warm, nestled snug in their beds, While visions of electronics danced in their heads; And mom, tired from cooking, and I in my cap, Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the low-E window I flew like a flash, Threw open the blinds and the energy-efficient sash.

The security light on the crest of the new-fallen snow Gave the lustre of midday to objects below, When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a lineman and bucket truck with all the right gear,

With a highly skilled driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be Lineman Rick. In just a few minutes, other crew members came, And Rick whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

“Now, ERNIE! Now, STEVEN! Now, DAVY and ROB! On, BILLY! On KEVIN! On, RONNIE and BOB! To the top of the POLES! And check every last fuse, So holiday power these houses don’t lose.”

Lineman Rick and the others safely proceeded; In the bitter cold night, they found what was needed. As up to the pole-tops, with equipment so new, They replaced every old one, and then right on cue,

Rick sprang to his truck, to his crews gave a wave, And away they all drove, those linemen so brave. But I heard them exclaim, as they drove out of sight, “MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A BRIGHT NIGHT!”
