Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative

A time for thanks and giving

Operation RoundUP contributions aid neighbors

During this season of giving, we are reminded how thankful we are for our members’ financial support of Operation RoundUP® and the work of the CarteretCraven Electric Foundation board members who decide how the funds should be used.

Through RoundUP, CCEC members agree to have their electric bills rounded up to the nearest dollar each month (an average of $6 a year or 50¢ a month). Co-op members have been "rounding up" since 1999, and the more than $3.81 million raised has been spread across multiple charities for the benefit of programs and individuals in our area.

The foundation is run by co-op members who volunteer to serve on the board and review grant requests. Their mission is simple: "To assist and empower individuals with resources provided through the generosity of CCEC members."

Visit ccemc.com/RoundUP to see examples of the worthy causes supported by our members through Operation RoundUP. Are you in?

Operation RoundUP is completely voluntary, with the vast majority of our members participating. Check your bill and see if you have “opted in.” If you already participate in Operation RoundUP, thank you! If not, and you want to make a positive change in your community, complete the form included with your November bill.

CCEC is committed to building a brighter future by not only providing safe, reliable and affordable energy, but also by partnering with our members to give back to our local community.

Together, we can turn a little pocket change into a whole lot of good! Limited edition co-op shirts

You can also support RoundUP by purchasing a special, limited-edition Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative shirt. Short-sleeve shirts are $13 and longsleeve shirts are $18. All proceeds benefit Operation RoundUP.

Available in white, navy and gray, shirts can be purchased at our offices in Newport and Havelock. Warehouse and Facilities Specialist Joseph Grant wears his co-op shirt.

High schoolers: Earn a trip to Washington, D.C.

Join the state’s future leaders for a week of exploration, education and leadership training. CCEC is seeking applications from high school juniors and seniors for the leadership opportunity of a lifetime: The Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.

The Youth Tour allows students to experience Washington, D.C., and learn more about how they can make a difference as young adults. Tourists will learn about the cooperative business model and values, visit historic monuments and memorials, pay their respects at The Arlington National Cemetery, meet elected officials and tour a variety of Smithsonian museums, all while building a peer network with young leaders from across the country.

The co-op will sponsor one local student to join the June 2023 Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. The all-expense-paid, weeklong tour is hosted by electric cooperatives nationwide and is a tradition more than 50 years strong. About 1,800 students from more than 40 states are expected to participate in 2023, and North Carolina’s electric cooperatives will send a delegation of more than 45 students.

Co-op officials and past Youth Tour participants say: The Electric Cooperative Youth Tour is the perfect way for students to grow as a young leader in one of the world’s most influential places. “If you’re a high school student who wants to grow as a leader, Youth Tour is the perfect opportunity to kick your leadership skills into high gear,” said Melissa Glenn, communications director at CCEC. “This is a unique opportunity to see what career and volunteer options are available for you no matter what you’re interested in doing after high school.” The Youth Tour delegate will be selected based on the completion of an application and a short essay. Current high school juniors and seniors living in a home served by the co-op are eligible to apply.

For more information and an application, visit ccemc.com/YouthTour. The application deadline is Jan. 3, 2023.

Payment options to fit your lifestyle

For many of us, email bill notifications, online account management and electronic payments are a way of life. In fact, more than half of our members’ payments are handled electronically.

We realize that one size does not fit all, and that’s why we have a variety of payment and account management options available to make paying your bill and managing your electric usage as easy as possible.

PrePay

Our PrePay energy solution works the same as putting gas in your car: You pay for electricity as you need it. You can purchase small amounts every few days or buy more when your budget allows. Better yet, there are no deposits, no late fees and no monthly bills. You choose your own payment schedule.

Pay-by-Phone

Manage your electric bill securely, conveniently and quickly, 24/7 with our account inquiry and payment line. To access your account, call 252.777.5150.

Equalizer

Your monthly bills are totaled for the year and then divided into 12 equal payments. You have peace of mind knowing what your electric bill will be each month.

PowerPay24

With PowerPay24, you can pay your bill from any computer, anytime, even when you are away from home.

Visit carteretcraven.coop. You will be guided through the simple sign-up process on our secure site. You can use an e-check, debit card or credit card, and there’s no fee for this service. You also can use PowerPay24 to view your account, including billing and usage history.

On the go? Download the PowerPay app for your smartphone or tablet from iTunes and Google Play. You can make a secure payment or check your account from your mobile device with just one tap.

Check Free

You can authorize your bank to send us an electronic payment each month to pay your bill. Check with your bank about the availability of this option and the length of time it takes for the payment to be transferred, to avoid it posting late to your CCEC account.

AutoPay

CCEC offers automatic bank draft and recurring credit card payments. These options really take the worry out of bill paying. Your account is drafted on an established date each month, and you don’t have to remember anything.

Avoid high bills by checking ductwork

When was the last time that you ventured into your home's crawl-space or attic to inspect your HVAC system's ductwork?

If it has been a while, then now would be a good time to slip on some old clothes and have a peek at the condition of the ductwork in these seldom seen areas.

Ductwork should be inspected twice a year; once before you turn on your cooling system in the summer and once before you begin using your heating system in the winter.

Ducts often fall or become detached due to improper installation techniques. Mastic sealant is the only thing that should be used to seal ducts to register boots and other connections. HVAC or duct tape should NOT be used. Over a period of time, these tapes will lose their adhesive properties allowing ductwork to fall, releasing the heated or air-conditioned air that you paid for, under your home or into the attic.

So, take a few minutes to survey your ductwork before it costs you high energy bills this winter.
