Welcome to Truist Point, home of the Carolina Core FC (CCFC). We are so glad you are here to support the Foxes! If you are here to support the other team, although we may question your life choices, we are glad you are here, too. While these upcoming 90 plus minutes are all about soccer, CCFC is more than just a soccer club and Truist Point is more than just a stadium in a small town. Truist Point stadium was born in 2016 out of the dire need of our city to revitalize its downtown to bring people and jobs back to its core. In 2022, out of fierce passion to bring more access to opportunity and to create more jobs in our core, CCFC was started as an independent club of MLS NEXT Pro. CCFC and the league are committed to driving a new era of North American soccer and offer exciting, unprecedented opportunities to players, coaches, and sports business professionals. CCFC is dedicated to the development and career advancement of every individual that comes to and through our club, not just our players. And through the vehicle of soccer, we are bringing people, yourself included, into the heart of our city to drive upward economic mobility so that every person in our community has access to opportunities that enrich their lives. Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is proud to celebrate 7-year-old Nolan Jackson during their entitlement match on Saturday, July 25th with a special Winning Moment. Nolan loves playing soccer and is bravely managing life with Sickle Cell Disease. As part of his Winning Moment, Nolan will take part in the Ceremonial First Kick and join the team on the field for the coin toss.

For midfielder Robinson Aguirre, the opportunity to represent El Salvador on the international stage in 2022 was about much more than soccer. It was a chance to honor his family’s roots, wear a nation’s crest with pride, and compete alongside some of the country’s best players.
Eligible to play for El Salvador through his grandfather, who held dual citizenship in El Salvador and Honduras, Aguirre never took the opportunity for granted. What began as a connection through his family quickly evolved into a deep appreciation for the country, its culture, and the responsibility that came with representing it.
One of the biggest reasons that connection became so meaningful was the passion of the Salvadoran supporters. Whether playing at home or in front of large crowds across the United States, Aguirre quickly experienced firsthand what it meant to represent a country whose fans live and breathe the game.
“The people and fans are amazing,” Aguirre said. “Every time I would represent the country, there was a sense of pressure, but it was the good kind. The fans always want the best for you and push you to achieve everything you can.”
That unwavering support created an atmosphere unlike anything Aguirre had experienced before. Rather than feeling overwhelmed by the expectations that came with wearing the national team jersey, he embraced the responsibility and used it as motivation every time he was called into camp.
One of the defining moments of Aguirre’s international career came when he made his senior national team debut against Guatemala in San Jose, California. After just a few training sessions with the squad, he was focused on making a positive impression and learning from the experienced players around him. Then, head coach Hugo Pérez delivered the news every young player dreams of hearing.
“He gave me all the confidence in the world,” Aguirre recalled. “Playing in front of thousands of people for my senior team debut was a one-of-a-kind experience.”
Walking onto the field for his first senior international appearance in 2022 is a memory, Aguirre says will stay with him forever. Competing against Guatemala in front of thousands of passionate supporters marked the culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice while reaffirming that he belonged on the international stage.
While the matches themselves created unforgettable memories, Aguirre says some of the most valuable experiences came away from the spotlight. Sharing the locker room with veteran internationals gave him the opportunity to learn from players who had spent years representing their country. Their leadership, professionalism, and guidance helped accelerate his development both on and off the field.
Balancing club responsibilities with international duty also presented new challenges. Traveling between countries, adapting to different tactical systems, and building chemistry with teammates in a short amount of time required flexibility and maturity. Those experiences pushed Aguirre outside his comfort zone and helped him become a more complete player.
Representing El Salvador ultimately became about more than earning international caps. It deepened his connection to his family’s heritage, exposed him to one of the region’s most passionate soccer cultures, and provided experiences that continue to shape both his career and his perspective on the game.
Jake Davis is a former goalkeeper and current coach with experience developing players at the collegiate, academy, and professional levels. After his playing career, he transitioned into coaching roles with organizations including the Boston Bolts and Houston Dynamo academy systems, Assumption College, and the University of Virginia women’s program. Davis later joined the professional ranks with Hartford Athletic in the USL Championship and Cavalry FC in the CPL, where he continued his work in goalkeeper development and player analysis.

From its inception, CCFC’s vision has been clear: build a true professional pathway in the Carolina Core. What began with the launch of a men’s MLS Next Pro team has evolved into a vertically integrated development model, from recreation to classic, to MLS NEXT Academy Division, to MLS NEXT Homegrown Division, and ultimately to the professional ranks. CCFC Academy launched with the MLS NEXT league for the 2024 season starting with two teams - U13 and U14. Entering year three, CCFC will include U13, U14, U15, U17, and U19 age groups in the MLS NEXT Homegrown Division. MLS NEXT Homegrown represents the highest level of boys youth soccer in the United States. We are proud to be the first non-MLS team to make our MLS Next Academy free for each player, aiming to break down the financial barriers typically associated with high-level youth soccer and provide young players with an unprecedented opportunity to pursue their dreams. In just two seasons, CCFC’s Homegrown teams have earned national rankings, postseason appearances, and individual player invitations to U.S. Youth National Team identification events - proof that elite-level development can thrive in the Core.
The expanded MLS NEXT Homegrown Division will operate alongside CCFC’s existing MLS NEXT Academy Division and Classic programming at each of the age groups, ensuring competitive pathways for players across multiple aspiration and development levels within one unified club structure. Importantly, the CCFC Academy remains committed to ensuring access to top-tier competition. The club will continue to offer substantial support through merit-based and financial-need scholarships, reinforcing its belief that talent and work ethic - not financial circumstance - should determine opportunity.

Chicago Fire FC II serves as the secondary tem of the MLS Club Chicago Fire. The team plays its games in Bridgeview, Illinois at SeatGeek Stadium. Chicago Fire FC II joined MLS NEXT Pro in 2022 as an inaugural member. Mike Matkovich manages Chicago Fire FC II, after previously serving as the club’s Head Domestic Scout for the prio two seasons. The Russian coach has over 30 years of coaching experience throughout various levels of soccer. Matkovich was previously head coach of the U.S. U18 Men’s Youth National Team from 2009 to 2012, guiding the team to the Australian Youth Olympic Festival championship and third place of the Lisbon Tournament in Portugal in 2009. He began his coaching career with Chicago Magic Soccer CLub and the Chicago Fire Reserves in which he’s credited with helping to develop talents such as Ned Grabavoy (2005 MLS Cup Winner), Eric Lichaj (16 appearances for the US Men’s National Team) and Brad Guzan (144 appearances for English Premier Division club Aston Villa).
