He has worked with contemporary composer Paul Moravec using his Tempest Fantasy and Time Gallery to create new ballets; and he has collaborated on many pieces including The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, The Masque of the Red Death, and a full evening Macbeth with contemporary composer J. Mark Scearce. Mr. Weiss started his career as a dancer with the New York City Ballet where he was a Principal under George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins who both created work on him. Before moving to Raleigh he directed the Pennsylvania Ballet for just shy of a decade. Among his many awards for excellence are a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Raleigh Medal of Arts, and an honorary Doctorate from NC State University.
