Registration Dates Residents: register now Non-residents: May 10

Full payment for most programs is due at the time of registration. Payment may be made by cash, check or credit card (Visa/MC/AMEX/DISC). Make checks payable to the Carol Stream Park District; There is a $20 fee for returned checks.

Program Capacity All programs have minimum and maximum enrollments. If the minimum enrollment is not met one week prior to the program date, the Park District may have to cancel, postpone or consolidate the program with another. If the program is cancelled, full credits will be issued.

Waiting Lists Once the maximum enrollment is met for a class, a waiting list will be formed. We will create additional classes when feasible and you will be contacted. Credits will be processed after the first scheduled class.

Haley, a Senior at Glenbard West High School, recently moved to Carol Stream from Chicago, where she completed 62 hours volunteering for the Chicago Park District as a junior camp counselor. Haley began volunteering with the Carol Stream Park District in January 2010.

In the last few months, she has assisted our staff with special events including: Winter in the Park, Daddy Daughter Dance, Mother-Daughter Doll Tea Party, kids egg hunt, Annie Jr., theatre production, the Preschool Fun Fair and the Bunny Bash. We appreciate her enthusiastic spirit and her willingness to pitch in with whatever the task is that needs to be accomplished. She has quickly become a familiar face around the park district. The Carol Stream Park District Board of Commissioners consists of seven individuals who are elected by the community to represent the communityâ€™s best interests. The charge of the Board is to set policies that will guide the Park District. Board members serve a four-year term and receive no compensation for the time they give. They come from a variety of backgrounds but share one important trait - a commitment to serving the park and recreational needs of our community.

Board Meetings Regularly scheduled meetings of the Board are held on the second and/or the fourth Monday of each month according to a schedule adopted by the Board yearly. Please check our website for our current meeting schedule. Regular Board Meetings open at 7:00 pm.

Students will develop confidence and skills in this ‘fun’demental class. Floatation devices will be used under the direct supervision of an instructor. This Swim School is conducted in an average water depth of four feet. If your child is uncomfortable with this depth, we suggest Starfish Paddlers where there are smaller groups. White Sox Baseball/Softball Camps White Sox Training Centers are a grass roots approach to nurturing a lifelong love of baseball & softball. Young players who are interested in improving their skills will be given a chance to learn basic and advanced skills from some of the most gifted teachers in the game. Registration Guidelines 1. Register online at csparks.org or use the registration form in this guide. 2. Registration is by grade level. Players are to be registered for the grade the player we be in for the 2010/11 school year. • Preschoolers must be entering kindergarten for the 2011/12 school year. • Grades may be combined based on registration numbers.

Requests 1. One mutual friendship request per player will be granted for players in grades 1 and 2. 2. One practice day conflict will be accepted for all players. 3. A park district request form must be used and the guidelines must be followed. Request forms are available on csparks.org or at the front desk at Simkus Recreation Center. 4. Request deadlines are the same as registration deadlines. 5. Due to the nature of the program, we cannot accept coach or carpool requests.

Waitlist 1. Players placed on a wait list are not guaranteed team placement. 2. Before team formation: • Player will be moved off the wait list when there are enough players to form an additional team. 3. After team formation: • Placement will only be done when a team or teams are below the established maximum number of team participants. 4. • Classes are held at Simkus Recreation Center. • Parent viewing opportunities are Aug 2 to Aug 7. • Assessments are required for Grasshopper, Beginner, Beginner II, Advanced Beginner, and Novice levels. Assessments are also required for any of these levels if more than one session has been skipped. Call (630) 784-6105 to schedule a time. • Only the registered child will be allowed to attend and participate. • During parent/child classes and parent observation week, please make alternate arrangements for siblings. Payment Information

Program Curriculum

The park district preschool program curriculum reflects the Illinois Learning Standards and helps children develop prekindergarten skills including letter and name recognition, listening, health habits, cooperative play, fine motor skills and socialization skills. The experiences are both educational and recreational, which aid in social, physical, intellectual and emotional growth. Our program follows the District 93 school calendar.

Pathway to Preschool Program

The parents of the children that are not fully capable of handling their own toileting needs must stay on site during class hours or be within five minutes of the building during class hours.

The 4-year old program is designed to help your child develop readiness skills for kindergarten. Our program will stress the development of independence and academic skills through learning centers, structured activities, math concepts, lower and upper case letters and letter sound recognition. Children will explore their community through local field trips.

The Pathway to Preschool Program is designed for children that miss the age requirement for our regular preschool program. This program is designed to help build the bridge to our preschool program and provides an opportunity for 2½-3 year olds to enhance their social, physical and creative development. Children will learn through play and emphasis will be placed on becoming comfortable in a classroom environment. Pathway to Kindergarten Children must be 4 years old by June 1, 2010

The 3-year old program is designed for your child’s first learning experience and to prepare them to naturally transition to the 4-year old program. Our program will stress social skills, colors, shapes, fine motor skills, name recognition, following directions, sharing and cooperative play. Children will explore their community through local field trips.

This five-day program is especially designed for the more advanced, mature 4-year old who has had at least one year of preschool experience and turned four by June 1, 2010. Children will prepare for kindergarten curriculum and develop self-confidence as they focus on beginning writing skills, story comprehension, math concepts, scientific problem solving and story dictation. Children will explore their community through local field trips.

Coral Cove Water Park Rental The Coral Cove Water Park is available for rentals during the summer on Fridays and Saturdays from 8:15 pm - 10:15 pm and on Sundays from 7:15 pm to 9:15 pm. Rentals may be canceled due to inclement weather at the manager’s discretion and can be rescheduled if dates are open.

Special Recreation The benefits of recreation extend far beyond the soccer field or the dance floor. The skills that are learned and practiced in leisure provide a tremendous foundation for life. For an individual with a disability, recreational activities can improve self-confidence, provide socialization opportunities, and reinforce a sense of teamwork and tolerance. They can establish friendships and gain social independence. The benefits are endless!

Volunteers/Part Time Staff We are looking for caring people with a desire to give a little. Volunteers are needed to assist in a variety of programs from sports to crafts to special events. The Carol Stream Park District continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect the participantsâ€™ safety. However, participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for the above listed programs/activities must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational activities/programs. You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ward are physically fit and/or skilled for the activities contemplated by this agreement. It is always advisable, especially if the participant is pregnant, disabled in any way or recently suffered an illness, injury or impairment, to consult a physician before undertaking any physical activity.

WARNING OF RISK Recreational activities are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity. Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers and injuries due to inclement weather, slip and falls, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating, and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities exist. In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the Carol Stream Park District to guarantee absolute safety.
