SWIM ACADEMY - ADULT & TEEN

Adult & Teen – Introduction to Swimming Ages 13+

Build the foundation for safe swimming while gaining confidence and comfort in the water. Learn essential skills such as breathing techniques, floating, and submerging. The fundamentals of freestyle and backstroke are introduced.

Adult & Teen – Intermediate Swimming Ages 13+

Develop and refine basic swim strokes, including freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. Improve breathing techniques, endurance, and the ability to tread water. Completion of Introduction to Swimming or equivalent experience and ability to swim at least 25 yards of freestyle unassisted is required. Swimmers must already be confident in the water.

Adult & Teen – Advanced Swimming Ages 13+

Improve endurance, pace, and stroke proficiency. Swimmers must already be skilled in freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. Butterfly and flip turns are also introduced. Participants must be approved by a coach to register for this level, after mastery of Intermediate Swimming class skills.

Registration

Participants needing WDSRA inclusion support must register at least 4 weeks in advance. If enrolling within 4 weeks of the start date, participation may be delayed until an aide can be secured by WDSRA.

If your preferred class is full, register for the waitlist. Additional classes or instructors may be added 1-3 weeks prior to the session starting.

Participants cannot register for a specific instructor. Staffing assignments are not finalized until the start of the season.

Class Levels

All swimmers must register based on their age and skill level. Refer to the program description for the necessary skills by level. All skills should be mastered prior to advancing to a higher level. For returning swimmers, refer to the progress report for the approved class.

Swimmers will be evaluated during the first class and may be required to move up or down a level due to their skills and comfort in the water.

Siblings cannot be enrolled in the same class if they do not meet the age and skill requirements.

Class Procedures

Participants should arrive in their swimsuit prior to the class start time and wait in the pool hallway for the instructor to take them to the pool deck.

Swimmers should bring a towel. Goggles and swim caps are not required but both are permitted.

Parents, guardians, and siblings are not permitted on the pool deck or bleachers and they may not assist in the pool. Family members can watch from the hallway only. For Parent Tot classes, only one parent/guardian may participate in the class. Class sizes vary by age and skill level.

Children who are not fully potty trained must wear a waterproof diaper cover over their swim diaper.

Absences

The instructor and supervisor do not need to be notified regarding an absence. Classes begin as scheduled regardless of if all swimmers are present.

Make-ups, credits, and refunds are not offered due to absences of any sort, including illness and vacation.

Withdrawals

Refunds and credits are not offered after the second class. If withdrawing prior to the second class, a prorated credit to the participant’s park district account is available. If a prorated refund is preferred, a 10% service fee is applied. Credits and refunds are prorated to only include future dates. Previous dates, whether they were attended or not, may not be credited or refunded.

FAQ’s

June 8-July 24 (M/T/W/F) 7:45-8:45 am

June 8-July 24 (M/T/W/F) 6-7:30 am

Q. My swimmer ages up in the middle of the season. How do I know which team is for them?

A. The team is based on your swimmer’s age by December 1 for the Winter Season, and June 1 for the Summer Team. For example, if your swimmer is 10, and turns 11 before December or June 1, then you will enroll them in the 11+ team. If your swimmer turns 11 after either of those dates, then you enroll them for the 10&U team.

Q. Do you offer payment plans?

A. Payment plans are available and will be charged on the first of every month. If you choose to do a payment plan, the only thing due at registration will be the $100 Volunteer Deposit.

Q. What is the Volunteer Deposit?

A. The Volunteer Deposit is a $100 fee assessed to every family enrolled. You will have the $100 returned to you at the end of the season if you volunteer for at least 6 half-meets throughout the season. This fee is per family, not per swimmer. If your family has two swimmers the fee is still only $100.

Q. Does it cost money to register for a meet?

A. No! All costs for the entire season (excluding strokes clinics) are included in your Dolphins payment. Throughout the season, the Dolphins do occasionally do Fundraising events, but donations to these events are optional.

Q. Does my swimmer have to compete in every meet?

strokes clinics. Work closely with coaches and hone your technique. Must be a member of Carol Stream Dolphins Swim Team to enroll.
