EVENTS Burn The Mic Thursdays, June 20, July 18, & August 15, 7:00–8:00 PM The Kentucky Black Writers Collaborative’s Burn The Mic Series is a vibrant platform amplifying the voices and creativity of writers and spoken word artists in the heart of Kentucky. This dynamic series provides a welcoming space for poets, storytellers, and wordsmiths to share their narratives, fostering a sense of community and celebration. The KBWC invites writers of all ages and levels of experience to share their work. Sign-ups start at 6:30 PM. SAY IT LOUD: ASCENDING Thursday, June 27, 6:00–8:00 PM This recurring live event is designed to showcase both prominent and emerging Black writers and artists of the Commonwealth. The second installment of the 2024 series will feature readings by Lexington Youth Poets Laureate Kiitan Adedeji and Zoya Abbas, Beaux Hardin, and Cierra Moore. Anonimuss Rose is our musical guest. Black & Lit Book Club with Nita Clarke ONLINE: Monday, July 8, 6:00–7:00 PM Black & Lit Book Club features new books by Black Kentucky writers. This book club is open to KBWC members and anyone who wishes to attend. When possible, we will meet with the featured author. The first 25 registrants will receive a free copy of Nita Clarke’s Mint Julep: The Reunion.
