Ingredients

2 pie crust pastries

6 apples, peeled and thinly sliced 3/4 cup sugar

3 tablespoons flour

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 dash salt

2 tablespoons butter, cold

1 large egg, beaten

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 425°.

2. Roll each pie crust pastry to 1/8” thickness and place in a 9” pie pan. Press gently to lay flat in pan. Prick with fork to allow even baking.

3. Mix sugar, flour, salt and cinnamon in bowl. Add apple slices and mix well. Fill the pie pan with the apple mixture and pat down with a spoon. Dot the filling with pieces of butter.

4. Moisten the lip of the pie pan with water. Place the second rolled pie crust over the apple mixture. Trim excess dough and flute the edges to seal the pie. Brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with additional sugar.

5. Prick with a fork or use a knife to cut four 2-3” slits on top of the pie to create vents for steam to escape.

6. Bake for 50 minutes, until the pastry is golden and the filling bubbles through the vents.

7. Let cool before cutting to allow the filling to settle.
