“There is one spectacle grander than the sea, that is the sky; there is one spectacle grander than the sky, that is the interior of the soul.”   -Victor Hugo

A Brief Description of the Spindrift Properties Situated with extraordinary privacy and Southwest exposure on one of the most coveted streets from Carmel to Big Sur and along the craggy and picturesque California coastline. The compound represents the consolidation of two prior separately owned properties that were essentially torn to the ground, except for the maintenance of their original foundational footprints, which survived for purposes of streamlining approvals through the California Coastal Commission. The two separate lots, located at the gateway to Big Sur, on the granite coastal clis of Carmel Highlands’ famous Spindrift Road, encompass over 2 acres of oceanfront land. A unique feature of the land includes the four coves that make their way inland into the coastal canyon inlets of the property towards a mature Cypress grove, residing on approximately half the combined property.

The Property Layout Six structures reside on the property: ■ Two main houses ■ Two detached garages ■ Two smaller one-bedroom guesthouses. Three of the four living structures are cited very dramatically on the bluff side with anywhere from 85 to 120 feet in elevation to the ocean. Throughout the property and within the six structures there are: ■ Six en suite bedrooms ■ Six full bathrooms and two half baths ■ Two full kitchens and one smaller but efficient kitchenette ■ A wet bar ■ Two large living rooms with jaw-dropping ocean views ■ Three dining areas ■ Several independent sitting areas ■ One exterior and five interior stone fireplaces ■ An office area ■ A workout room ■ Artist studio/Writer’s Cabin ■ Two garages ■ Three laundry and utility areas ■ One exterior fireplace, two fire pits ■ And a soon-to-be completed permanent stone hot tub

“The sea is everything. It covers seven tenths of the terrestrial globe. Its breath is pure and healthy. It is an immense desert where man is never lonely, for he feels life stirring on all sides. -Jules Verne

A walk along the bluff and spring reveals a tapestry of ice plant, succulents and wildflowers.

The “Ruin Wall - which originally separated the properties has been reinforced and reengineered in original granite.

Autumn light as the earth revolves the autumn sun slips toward the Southern Hills tinting dawn’s light and twilight luminous pastels. - Excerpt from The Glinting Sea
