Marvelous Mammals

Let’s take a closer look at furry critters called mammals! Learn the remarkable traits different mammals have that make them masters of their environment. Kids will use imaginary play to become a burrowing bunny, crafty coyote and more. We’ll look for squirrel nests, mouse tunnels and signs of animal activity on the trails in Central Park!

Digging for Dinosaurs

T-Rex, Triceratops and Stegosaurus collide! Campers will learn all about dinosaurs, both big and small! We will go on a pretend dinosaur-dig at the park, create our own dinosaurs and we may even find a dino track or two.

Buzz and Flutter

Bees, caterpillars, ants and more! Together we will learn about all kinds of tiny bugs found in Central Park. We’ll collect and identify all kinds of beetles, butterflies and more and release them back into the wild.

Mini Meteorologists

This week we will learn about our five senses while we enjoy the smells, sights and sounds of nature. Each day we will learn about one of our five senses while exploring Central Park and enjoy a craft, activity and story.

Did you ever wonder what causes the weather? Why is it hot in the summer and cold in the winter? Campers will make a cloud identifier window and put together a mini weather station to record what is going on outside each day! Let’s see if you can predict the weather.

Feathered Friends

Safety Town

Explore Your Senses

Falcons, woodpeckers, cardinals and more! Take flight and discover the world of birds! Campers will learn bird calls, search for birds in the woods as well as read stories and create birdthemed crafts.

Come to Safety Town and learn about water, bike and outdoor safety. Campers will learn about stranger danger from a police officer, check out a fire truck with fire fighters, practice bike safety in our mini Carmel Clay town and have fun while becoming more aware of the world around them.

Slippery, Slimy Critters

Does your child love snakes, turtles, toads, frogs and other cold-blooded critters? We will spend the week studying and learning about different reptiles and amphibians who call Indiana home. A few will even visit camp! Children will have an opportunity to hold a snake and feed a toad as they explore the various habitats in Central Park.

Water, Water, Everywhere

Water is amazing! It can form mountains and is needed to sustain life! Let’s look for animals who live near or in the Central Park lagoon, wade in the water in search of water critters and play in the Westermeier Commons Splash Pad!

Mud Fest

Let’s get messy! We will learn about soil, play in mud and have messy science experiments, art projects and more! The messier, the better!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Did you know it takes a plastic bag 10 to 20 years to decompose?

Or that it takes a glass bottle 1,000,000 years to decompose?

Campers will use recycled goods to create art projects as well as learn ways to reduce trash in their home through interactive games and activities. Saving the world can be fun!

Fishing

Let’s go down to the ole fishin’ hole! Campers will learn how to put the pole together and thread the hook on the line. We will make our own bobbers, play fishing games and spend time panfishing. We will provide all the necessary fishing equipment.

Pollinators

Did you know we need insects to survive? Our food source depends on pollinators. Many of our native pollinators are on the decline. We’ll discover which pollinators live in Central Park and how we can help increase and attract them so we can enjoy our favorite foods!

Life Cycles

Plants and animals experience physical changes that allow them to reach adulthood and produce new organisms.

Campers will learn about metamorphosis, the food chain and adaptation to the environment through games, crafts and hikes in the woods.

Ornithology

Ornithology, the study of birds, is fun and fascinating! We’ll dissect owl pellets, learn bird calls and hike around Central Park looking for woodpeckers, robins, cardinals, warblers and other colorful birds. While honing their birding skills, campers will play games, create unique pieces of art and more!

Meteorology

Did you ever wonder what causes the weather? Why is it hot in the summer and cold in the winter? Campers will make a mini tornado in a bottle, study clouds and learn all about the weather. We will construct a mini weather station to record what is going on outside each day. Let’s see if you can predict the weather!

Herpetology

Herpetology is the study of amphibians such as frogs, toads and salamanders as well as reptiles such as snakes, lizards and turtles.

We’ll search for tadpoles, toads and water snakes in the lagoon and learn about these amazing creatures using active games, experiments and crafts. This program includes live animals. Kids can choose to look at or hold the animals, if they are comfortable.

Geology

Geology encompasses various fields of study of the Earth.

Campers will learn all about rocks by testing them for characteristics such as hardness, luster, color, streak and gravity.

Campers will learn about volcanoes, seismic tremors and more through experiments and art projects.

Wilderness Survival

Spend the week learning how to survive in the wild! Campers will build a shelter out of leaves and branches, learn to use a compass and read a map. We’ll also spend time learning about archery and use a recurve bow to hit a target.

Science is all around us and it is COOL! Campers will explore the scientific method in a hands-on setting and have lots of fun doing it. We’ll conduct experiments, watch demonstrations and make take-home projects that reinforce the week’s focus. Ready for Take 1 of summer theatre fun? Learn lines, songs and choreography while making new friends! In the first four weeks, we’ll put on “Shrek Jr,” a musical.

The week of June 29, campers will expand their talents in a one-week camp with theater games, skits and a talent show. In the last four weeks, we’ll put on “Night at the Wax Museum,” a fun romp through history. There will be an on-site entertainer on Tuesday & Thursday.

The I.M.P.A.C.T. program teaches essential life skills in a job-like setting. WAITLIST POLICY

A transfer from one day camp to another day camp is contingent upon the availability of spots within the desired camp. If the camp is at maximum capacity, a transfer will be not allowed. Transfers will not be permitted once the camp week has concluded.

PARTIAL PAYMENT PLAN Parent/guardian may pay-in-full for enrollment(s) at the time of initial registration, or select the payment plan option. The schedule below specifies the payment dates and applicable payments. Payment plans are not available for half-day camps.

There is no fee to be placed on the waitlist. If a spot becomes available in the desired camp, the camper’s parent/guardian that is prioritized at the top of waitlist will be notified via e-mail.

The parent/guardian will have 24 hours from the time of the notification e-mail to make payment in full for the desired camp.

If payment has not been received in full, the next camper’s parent/guardian will be notified.

AGE POLICY The cutoff date for a camper’s age is September 1, 2020 or a camper’s age on the first day of the camp week.

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY • The department will issue a full refund if the department cancels a camp.

• Cancellations for a camp week must be requested a minimum of 2 weeks from the respective camp week start date to receive a 100% refund, less a $10 service charge for cancellation per camp week, per camper.

• All refunds are subject to the State Board of Accounts claim procedure and may take three to four weeks.

FIELD TRIPS All field trips are weather permitting.

Campers are responsible for bringing their own sack lunch and snack and must be able to take care of their respective restrooms needs.

INCLUSION STATEMENT, MODIFICATIONS + OTHER CONSIDERATIONS INCLUSION STATEMENT Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation’s (CCPR) Summer Camp Series (SCS) program is committed to being an inclusive program.

Dedicated to complicance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). By making reasonable modifications, our inclusion model allows participants of many different ability levels to join our SCS program.

Reasonable modifications are individualized techniques and resources used to enhance program participation without fundamentally altering a program.

With that in mind, please note that SCS is not a specialized, respite, or therapeutic program. Safety of each and every participant is our top priority. If, with reasonable modifications provided, a participant poses a threat of physical harm of themselves or others, or demonstrates that he or she cannot participate in our program safely, CCPR may decline the enrollment, or if currently participating, temporarily suspend participation.

REQUESTING MODIFICATIONS • When you register for camp, mark “yes” in the inclusive services request section.

In some cases, planning reasonable modifications may take two or more weeks. The earlier we know of your need, the more likely we can make a reasonable modification when the program begins.

• SCS Inclusion Supervisor will contact you to set up an assessment to establish an individuualized success plan for your camper.

• Please be aware that CCPR reserves the right to refuse to provide a modification when that modification fundamentally alters the nature of the program or is unreasonable according to ADA regulations.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS There are times when a camp does not fit a participant. It may be because: • The participant does not like the program activities and/or components (e.g. swimming, field trips or large group settings, etc.).

• The participant has a health condition that limits participation in activities of a long duration.

• The CCPR staff have yet to, with the family, find the right plan to facilitate participation.

• CCPR staff have not yet reached agreement with the family on a support plan for participation.

Whenever such a circumstance arises, CCPR reserves the right to delay the start of participation, or temporarily suspend a participant, until CCPR and the family develop a plan that assures safe and enjoyable participation for all participants.

CONCLUSION CCPR’s Summer Camp Series welcomes participants of many different ability levels, and strives to provide an exciting, positive, and safe program for all. Our goal is to make SCS rewarding for each and every participant.
