As I enter my second year in the role of president, I can honestly say that choosing to join Carmel Catholic has been one the best decisions I have ever made. I consider myself fortunate to be part of such a wonderful community and outstanding school.

Dear Carmel Catholic community,

When I assess this past year, I view it as one of positive changes and innovation. We have made progress in so many areas, including the development of our academic and spiritual programs. Our new academic offerings, including the INCubator entrepreneurship program, STEM course, and dual credit program with Loyola University, are all off to a successful start. Our media program is already making an impact on campus as media students embraced the challenge of programming and coordinating videos for our new, donor-sponsored video scoreboard – the largest one of its kind at an Illinois high school. Media students also have the privilege of working with WSFI 88.5 FM Catholic Radio to broadcast Carmel Catholic fall sports, including soccer, volleyball, and football.

We have made great improvements to our building and grounds by remodeling another portion of our hallway and classrooms, painting the interior of the building to achieve a uniform appearance, and displaying mission-related pieces of art around the school. Our physical environment supports our culture as a Catholic, Christ-centered community.

We honor our Catholic identity in other ways on campus as well. In addition to the all school Masses that continue to be held approximately once a month, Masses are now held weekly on Monday mornings, Wednesday afternoons, and Friday mornings in the Brandsma Chapel. All are welcome to join us in prayer for any Mass. While you’re on campus, be sure to visit the My Father’s Love exhibit by Ed Lantzer, which was recently featured on WGN News.

Close to 1,000 visitors have viewed the exhibit since it arrived in our south conference center this summer.

None of these achievements could be accomplished without the generosity of our alumni, parents, friends, and supporters. Thank you to each of you whose name appears in the 2015-16 Annual Report. Your gifts to our community will help ensure we continue to fulfill our mission to develop reflective thinkers, grateful stewards, and responsible leaders.

As a Catholic school community, we know that we are each called to be Disciples of Christ. The manner in which we follow our mission is intentional and deliberate. Corsairs on Campus

Already this fall, hundreds of prospective students have visited us on campus.

Volleyball Experience Carmel Catholic’s girls’ volleyball team had a special cheering section for their game on Thursday, September 15, against Grant High School. Grade school students and families across Lake County came to support the Corsairs. In between games, students were able show off their skills during hula hoop serving and setting challenges. The night ended with a question and answer session with Coach Dave Pazely and the varsity team.

Fun and Football Future Corsairs were invited to campus for our annual End Zone Party. Students in 7th and 8th grade gathered for a pizza party in the north end zone of Baker Stadium while our Corsairs took on St. Patrick. This year’s event, which took place on October 14, drew a large crowd of prospective students!

From the always popular Powder Puff Game to the Homecoming Dance, Spirit Week was enjoyed by faculty, staff, and students throughout the week of September 19.

The National Scholastic Press Association recently recognized the 2016 Harbinger, Carmel Catholic’s literary magazine, as All-American – the highest rating a publication can receive. A second critique from the American Scholastic Association awarded Harbinger first place distinction. The 2016 magazine, themed “Meraki,” contains a collection of photos, illustrations, poems, and short stories by students.

RPM to miles per hour? Students in Ms. Charlotte Pavelka’s Precalculus Honors course have been investigating this question by using simple tools, like a bike, tape measure, and their cell phone’s stopwatch.

Complex calculations of angular velocity and linear velocity make a lot more sense when you can see it.

Pea Plants in Biology

A Shakespearean Celebration

Students in Ms. Marcella Linahan’s biology class designed and conducted an experiment to determine what variables would effect the growth of pea plants.

The plants started out as seeds placed in containers to germinate. Once their small shoots began growing upward, students started taking measurements.

Students collected data on the growth of pea plants over several weeks.

On April 23, Mrs. Julie Wilkins and members of the English department led efforts to celebrate and recognize the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. Crew of Patches performed “Romeo and Juliet” in the auditorium for all freshmen. Then, Mrs. Wilkins’ classes continued the fun as they dressed in Shakespearean costumes, learned the arts of juggling and sword fighting, and role played.

Hosted by Midwest Chinese Teachers Alliance (MCTA) and sponsored by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago and the Confucius Institute in Chicago, the Eighth Midwest Chinese Speech Contest took place in the spring at Northside College Preparatory High School. Students enrolled in a Chinese program at the K-12 level and taught by an MCTA member were eligible to enter the contest.

The theme of the 2016 contest speeches was “Chinese and me.” Students came up with individual speeches and speech titles in the context of this theme by reflecting on the value of learning languages and the impact it has on their lives. Speech contestants were judged on four major criteria: pronunciation and tone, delivery, fluency, and content. Gold medals were awarded only to those students scoring a total of 90% or above.

The students, who are enrolled in Carmel Catholic’s Mandarin class, were encouraged to enter the competition by their instructor, Mr. John Cannuli.

Students Receive Gold Medals at Chinese Speech Contest

Math Team Excels at Mayor’s Cup Math Challenge Mundelein Mayor Steve Lentz visited Carmel Catholic High School in the spring to congratulate student members of the varsity and junior varsity math teams on their success at the Mayor’s Cup Math Challenge. The teams took top honors in the individual and team categories at the annual math competition, which attracted a record number of students from every school district in Mundelein.

Carmel Catholic students claimed six of the top ten individual awards in the varsity division: Tom Trzupek ’16 (1st place, $1250), Lauren Caffarelli ’17 (5th place, $500), Jason Hadjuk ’17 (6th place, $300), Zach Belyaev ’17 (8th place, $200), Matt Colbert ’16 (9th place, $150), and Sammy Dickmann ’17 (10th place, $100).

Carmel Catholic’s junior varsity team took eight of the top ten spots in their respective division: Patricia Freeman ’19 (1st place, $1000), Theresa Thiel ’18 (2nd place, $800), Patrick Delos Reyes ’19 (4th place, $500), Coral Wang ’18 (5th place, $400), George Yacu ’19 (6th place, $250), Peter Hefner ’19 (7th place, $200), Madison Sasman ’18 (8th place, $150), and Teddy Willemsen ’18 (9th place, $100).

More than 220 students from various schools competed for $12,000 in cash prizes. In the individual competition, Carmel Catholic students earned $5,900 in total scholarship money. All students participated in the individual competition, with the top 10 finishers in each division receiving a monetary scholarship.

A Passion for STEM Junior Natalie Koenig is already making a name for herself as a female leader in computer science and technology. Koenig was one of nearly 140 young women from across the United States who won a scholarship to attend “Women in Engineering” at Michigan Technological University, June 19-25. Women in Engineering is an intensive week-long look at careers in a variety of engineering disciplines including mechanical, computer, environmental, electrical, chemical, biomedical, civil, geological, and materials.

When Koenig was a young girl, her father, an IT professional, introduced her to the world of legos, computer games, and robotics. Since then, she has been developing her passions in this area and sharing it with her peers as well as youth.

Koenig is the founder of Carmel Catholic’s new pilot activity, Byte Club. Byte Club focuses on career opportunities in technology and computer science. Opportunities for student members will include activities such as app design, coding lessons, field trips to local business and universities, and guest speakers from experts in the field.

She is also currently pursuing the girl scout gold award. In doing so, she established Girls In First and Tech (GIFT), a program dedicated to mentoring girls as young as third grade in the area of technology. Koenig also helped to teach a lego robotics camp at College of Lake County this summer.

“I like mentoring because I get a huge kick out of watching kids look at their robot,” said Koenig. “I enjoy robotics so much and I want to share that with kids. It can be discouraging to be a girl in technology; in middle school, it’s difficult to find students with similar interests.”

It’s hard to believe that the list above is just a summary of Koenig’s accomplishments. She also attended Camp CEO for women in business, was a career aspirations winner with the 2016 Northern Illinois National Center for Women, and is a world champion robotics competitor. At Carmel Catholic, Koenig is currently taking AP computer science. She proudly built her first computer over the summer.

Student Excels in Poetry Contest In spring 2016, Mr. Alex Rafferty’s students participated in a poetry contest with Creative Communication. Jackie Bruce’s ’19 poem was selected out of several thousand entries as one of the ten best poems in the contest for the U.S. and Canada. In recognition of her achievement, Creative Communication sent Jackie a $25 check and complimentary copy of Mr. Alex Rafferty the anthology.

Creative Communication is devoted to the promotion of writing, teaching, and appreciation of student writing.

The intent of their student writing contests is to motivate student writers. The top entries are published in an anthology that records the creative insights of today’s student writers. Congratulations are also extended to Mr. Rafferty who now has the opportunity to be featured on Creative Communication’s blog and Facebook page.

National Merit Semifinalist Sammy Dickmann ’17 was recently named a semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship Program 2017 scholarship awards. Semifinalists must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test. As a semifinalist, Dickmann will have an opportunity to continue in the competition Sammy for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered Dickmann ’17 next spring.

Edcamp is an “unconference” that allows participants to drive the topics, steer the conversations, and accelerate professional development. It is meant to provide organic, participant-driven professional learning experiences created by educators, for educators. Carmel Catholic is proud to be the first Catholic school in Illinois to host an Edcamp open to the public. The event is open to all educators and anyone interested in education, including parents. Media Department This fall, Carmel Catholic launched a new media department offering courses in broadcast, journalism, and graphic design. While some of the course offerings were previously available in other departments, all the video broadcasting classes are new this year. Students involved with broadcasting are making an immediate impact on campus as they produce content highlighting Carmel Catholic academics and extracurriculars. Civic Education and Election News To help prepare our students for the recent election, several civic education and election events recently took place on campus.

In celebration of Citizenship Day on September 16, Americana trivia contests and practice citizenship tests were available during lunch periods. Citizenship Day commemorates the formation and signing of the Constitution of the United States on September 17, 1787.

On September 26, students were invited to watch the first presidential debate live. The following day, which was National Voter Registration Day, of-age students were given the opportunity to register to vote. On October 6, a Campaign Fair took place, inviting students to meet the candidates and/or their staff members.

Peter Nguyen ’16 was selected to participate in the Sea Cadet’s highly competitive International Exchange Program for the second time. Only two representatives from the United States were chosen for the program. In April 2016, Nguyen headed to Australia to work alongside cadets from Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and South Africa. In 2015 he was selected to represent U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) in its exchange with Canada. It is very rare to be selected twice for this extremely competitive program. Nguyen joined the USNSCC when he was only 11 years old. After years of demonstrating leadership and determination, he rose to the highest USNSCC cadet rank of Chief.

Student IT Team When you have computer problems, who are you going to call? IT, of course. At Carmel Catholic, that just might mean a talented group of technology-savvy students come to the rescue.

This summer, the CCHS IT team piloted a student IT team program with volunteers Mark Meny ’19, Noah Stansbury ’17, and Aaron White ’17. These students prepared Chromebooks, prepared laptops, assisted with help desk tickets, organized equipment, and even built their own server.

The program was such a success that it is continuing throughout the school year. The students are gaining valuable experience working in a Windows server environment, distributing and installing software, troubleshooting, and delivering customer support.

Healthcare Mentoring Program The CCHS OUCH (Opportunity to Understand Careers in Health) Club is piloting an experiential learning program this fall. The goal of the program, which is open to senior members of OUCH, is to develop opportunities for interaction between Carmel Catholic students and mentors in the healthcare and medical arena.

We are seeking parents and alumni to volunteer as mentors. Ideal mentors include doctors, nurses, chiropractors, physician assistants, veterinarians, dentists, orthodontists, medical sales personnel, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and occupational therapists, but other healthcare professionals are encouraged to participate. Strategic Plan Approved The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the approval of Carmel Catholic High School’s 2016-2020 Strategic Plan. The Strategic Planning Committee in partnership with Giving Tree Associates formed the plan.

This sixteen-member group supervised the strategic planning process, provided input into the areas for research, and identified strategic planning goals.

This strategic plan is organized around seven goal areas, each of which had a subcommittee who worked to revise the goals and develop objectives for their particular area of focus. The seven goal areas are: • Academics • Building and Grounds • Catholic Identity • Culture, Personnel, and Internal Communications • Enrollment Management and External Communications • Governance and Advancement • Student Life Prior to developing the plan, feedback about Carmel Catholic and ideas for its future were received from nearly 1,800 individuals through surveys, focus groups, and one-on-one interviews. Respondents included Carmel’s corporate board, board of directors, faculty, administrative staff, alumni, parents of current students, parents of prospective students, current students, and feeder parish pastors and principals. The murals each weigh over four hundred pounds and are crafted from hundreds of thousands of half-inch diamond shaped pieces of wood cut from more than 150 tree varieties. Lantzer (1932-2009), spent over 20 years of his life creating these breathtaking murals in hopes that one day his artwork would be an inspiration to many people.

The exhibit, which was recently featured as a cover story on WGN, is now open and free to the public. We aim to offer guided tours during our hours of operation; however, a guided tour will not always be available. Exhibit hours through December 18 are as follows: • 3:30 - 7 p.m. on Tuesdays • 3:30 - 7 p.m. on Thursdays • 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Sundays To learn more, visit carmelhs.org/myfatherslove.

Join Us for Mass You’ve probably heard that Carmel Catholic is now offering Mass three days a week in the Brandsma Chapel, but did you know that you are invited to attend? Throughout the first semester, the following weekly opportunities for prayer and worship are available to the entire Carmel Catholic community in the Brandsma Chapel: • Morning Mass: Mondays and Fridays at 7:10 a.m.

• Afternoon Mass: Wednesdays at 3:10 p.m.

• Rosary (led by the Social Justice Club): Tuesdays at 7:35 a.m.

Campus Ministry sponsored a student visit to Mount Carmel in Dubuque, Iowa where they met with sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM). During their visit, they had lunch with the sisters, assisted with a service project, visited the cemetery, and even presented the nuns with cupcakes in Carmel colors donated by our own Quest Food Services.

This August, a new faculty orientation program was implemented jointly with fellow Carmelite schools. New teachers from Carmel Catholic, Mount Carmel High School, and Joliet Catholic Academy gathered together at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Darien to learn about the mission of the Carmelites.

Mass of the Holy Spirit Thank you to Bishop Rassas for presiding at Carmel Catholic’s Mass of the Holy Spirit. The Mass of the Holy Spirit is a traditional way to open the school year for educational institutions since the 1600’s. We ask the Holy Spirit to inspire us in a special way for the coming school year. At the end of the Mass, Ms. Sue Crook, principal, gave a beautiful invocation as she commissioned our student body for the more than 50,000 hours of service they will complete collectively this school year. Mrs. Stith Meets Mother Teresa In May of 1976, Mrs. Paulette Stith, now a religious studies teacher at Carmel Catholic, was a teacher at Resurrection High School in Chicago when she and her co-student council moderator heard that Mother Teresa was in town and giving a speech at St. Mary of Providence school on Austin Avenue, a school and home for developmentally disabled girls.

Eager to meet a woman from whom they drew so much inspiration, they asked to leave school early and drove to St. Mary. When they arrived they knocked on the large doors and were greeted by a kind sister to whom they politely asked if they could speak with Mother Teresa.

The nun asked them to wait at the door. Much to Mrs. Stith and her friend’s delight, Mother Teresa emerged a few minutes later to greet them.

They told her of their vocation as Catholic school teachers and requested Mother Teresa speak at Resurrection’s graduation ceremony. Mother Teresa was very gracious, kind, and soft spoken in her reply. She said she wouldn’t be in town for the ceremony, but would be happy to write a note to the girls. Her note to the girls was simple, genuine, and beautiful: stay close to Jesus and Mary and live with love.

Mrs. Stith fortunately had a camera in the car and asked a passerby to take a picture of them. Considering this was a great moment in Mrs. Stith’s life, it modeled Mother Teresa’s life: an everyday moment that was shared with grace and God’s love.

Faculty News Mrs. Catherine Brennan, Mr. Jim Halford and Mr. Bill Taylor will present at the 2016 Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (IAHPERD) convention in St. Charles on November 17 and 18. Mr. Jake Luketin and Mrs. Brennan certified 150 Carmel Catholic freshmen in CPR. Mr. Luketin will be a guest speaker for two sessions at the Illinois High School Girls Gymnastics Coach’s Association (IHSGGCA) clinic at Glenbard West High School.

During the summer, two science members, Mr. Ray Krawzak and Dr. Peggy Halloran, had the opportunity to attend the 5th Annual Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Forum and Expo hosted by the National Science Teachers’ Association (NSTA) in Denver. Through various workshops and presentations, they were able to explore learning strategies used by colleagues around the country to integrate the practices and concepts of STEM into the science curriculum at Carmel Catholic.

Mrs. Kirsten Telwak presented at TCD’s Conference on Telecommunication in Dublin, Ireland. She presented on using Skype in her Spanish classes.

Mr. John Titterton, mathematics and STEM teacher, is the recipient of the University of Notre Dame Outstanding Educator Award. Created by the University of Notre Dame’s Alumni Association in 1996 to honor a Notre Dame graduate in elementary or secondary education, the Outstanding Educator Award is given to alumni who have distinguished themselves in educating students.

Ms. Suzanne Huntemann was named one of the top 100 flipped learning experts in the world. The Flipped Learning Global Initiative (FLGI), a worldwide coalition of educators, researchers, technologists, professional development providers, and education leaders, announced the top 100 list this October.

A group of Carmel Catholic student photographers are contributing to Carmel’s marketing and communications efforts by capturing student life on camera. In the spring, the photography club coordinated a student photo shoot on campus. They were responsible for selecting the locations, recruiting student volunteers, directing the volunteers, taking the photographs, and editing their images. Their photos can now be seen throughout Carmel publications, including the new image brochure which is being distributed to prospective families throughout the year. Spring Instrumental Concerts The Carmel Catholic bands ended the 2015-16 year with two wonderful concerts. One of the highlights of the annual Spring Instrumental Concert was the performance of “Ghost Train” by the Wind Ensemble.

“Ghost Train” illustrates a tale from American folklore of a supernatural machine that roars throughout the Western United States. It is highly programmatic

The Concert Band and the String Ensemble also performed a variety of symphonic pieces. A number of awards were distributed at the concert. Amanda Veerkamp ’16 and Tom Wattlet ’16 were recipients of the Leadership Award.

The Jazz Percussion Concert offered a lively and entertaining evening for guests. An assortment of selections was performed by the Jazz Combo, Percussion Ensemble, and the Jazz Band.

Spring Musical Announced The 2017 spring musical will be “The Sound of Music.” Tryouts take place this fall with the musical performances planned for April 21, 22, and 23.

Carmel Catholic High School Fine Arts presented its annual Cabaret Concert in the Carmel cafeteria on Sunday, October 23, at 2 and 6 p.m. Groups included the Carmel Catholic Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Treble Choir, Parkway Singers, Advanced Choir, and Carmel Cadence as well as soloists.

Orchesis Dance Company May 20 and 21, the Orchesis Dance Company Concert brought a record breaking crowd to the auditorium. The concert showcased talented beginning through advanced level Carmel dancers who participate in Orchesis as an extracurricular activity. Students and artistic director Ms. Kacey Valentine choreographed the show. Thank you to the more than 350 people who packed the auditorium to see the outstanding performance!

Corinne Hart ’14 is a member of the BFA dance program at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. During her time at Tisch, she has studied and performed works by renowned choreographers. Hart also studied with Toscana Dance Hub in Florence and Agropoli, Italy. She is excited to continue working, growing, and learning in New York City.

Ben Wiegman ’20 Named One the Best 14u Baseball Players

the weekend included an awards dinner for the athletes and their families. Proceeds from this event benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital (GCH) of Southwest Florida. GCH is the only children’s hospital between Tampa and Miami, and it provides vital healthcare for the region’s sick and injured children and their families, from infancy through age 18. Perfect Game is proud to have assisted in the development of more than 800 MLB players and 40,000 college-committed athletes since it was founded in 1995.

Lake County Stallions Honored at Community Night On September 2, Carmel Catholic proudly hosted members of the Lake County Stallions football and cheerleading programs for a new event, Community Night. The Lake County Stallions are dedicated to teaching the sports of cheerleading and football to children in kindergarten through eighth grade, regardless of their previous level of experience. Carmel Catholic celebrated the efforts of this local youth program by inviting participants to meet Carmel Catholic students before the Carmel Catholic vs.

DeKalb High School varsity football game. The Stallions cheerleaders also had the honor of performing during halftime.

“The Stallions would like to thank Carmel High School for hosting our cheerleaders, football players, coaches, and families during Community Night,” said Ben Terrell, vice president of the Lake County Stallions. “It was an awesome experience for our young athletes to walk into the stadium hand-in-hand with the Carmel football team before such a big game.”

WSFI and Corsair Broadcast Ben Wiegman ’20 pitched for one inning live on Fox Sports on September 4 as part of the Perfect Game (PG) Select Baseball Festival. This game featured the very best 14u players in North America and was played at JetBlue Park, the spring training home of the Boston Red Sox, which also serves as the site for countless other PG events, including the annual Junior National and National Showcases each June. There was no player participation fee for all players selected and 16

WSFI 88.5 FM Catholic radio is broadcasting several football, soccer, and volleyball games for Carmel Catholic this school year.

It is with great pleasure that Carmel Catholic High School celebrated police officers, firefighters, and first responders at Carmel Catholic for Community on Friday, September 30. First responders and their immediate family members received preferred on-campus parking, a complimentary t-shirt, food and beverages, and free admission to the Corsairs varsity football game in which Carmel Catholic took on Notre Dame High School.

Carmel Catholic students hosted their grandparents for Mass and lunch at the school on Sunday, September 11. Over 650 were in attendance at the Grandparents’ Day celebration. This special morning allows grandparents to spend one-on-one time with their grandchildren at Carmel.

After lunch, students took their grandparents on tours of the school and visited the My Father’s Love exhibit that Carmel Catholic is hosting in the south conference center.

Alumni Events Recap 50-Year Reunion

On June 4, 1966, 164 young men from the Carmel High School for Boys and 89 young ladies from the Carmel High School for Girls accepted diplomas at the very first Carmel commencement. On June 4 of this year, Carmel Catholic was the site of a very special 50-year celebration. Members of the Charter Class of 1966, as well as some of the original faculty from the late 1960’s and other special guests returned to Carmel to mark the historic day.

Classmates walked the halls, touring their former school, and sharing stories along the way. A reunion Mass in the Brandsma Chapel was followed by a special presentation to the members of the class and former faculty and staff.

A celebratory cocktail hour in the Information Commons heard the class singing the Carmel fight song. Then the night continued in the cafeteria with dinner and dancing to live music from “Brass from the Past.”

The weekend went by very quickly, but the memories and pride of the Class of ’66 will last forever. Thanks to all who made it a celebration to remember.

Alumni and Teacher Reunite Tom Blake ’77 recently visited Carmel Catholic for the first time in many years.

Blake majored in aerospace engineering and is a pilot for American Airlines. He spoke fondly of the physics class in high school that led him down his path and was reunited with his physics teacher at Carmel, Ms. Joanne Bader, during his visit.

Career Networking Series The Alumni Association started a Career Networking Series, which will include various professional topics presented by Carmel alumni for anyone in the Carmel community. Our first event was held Wednesday, October 5. Attorney Ted Bond, Jr. ’84 discussed charitable giving in estate planning. We plan to expand into other areas and potentially offer this series in a live stream.

Happy Hours Corsair Happy Hours were held in the Chicago Loop on June 29, and in the Schaumburg area on October 13. We are in the process of organizing more Happy Hour gatherings so keep your eyes open for additional dates!

On Saturday, July 16, Carmel Catholic alumni, family, and friends joined forces with the St. Viator community to pack nearly 26,000 meals at Feed my Starving Children in Libertyville! This year, Carmel was well represented and packed more meals than St. Viator! Join us next summer for the third annual event.

Movie Night While the weather did not cooperate for Carmel Catholic’s first outdoor movie night sponsored by the Alumni Association, the indoor showing of “Finding Nemo” delighted Carmel family members of all ages. Cookies and a Career We’ve continued our lunch and learn series, Cookies and a Career, for the third school year. On September 29, Jim Magna ’04, an investigator for the Lake County Child Advocacy Center, spoke to Carmel students about his life and career path after graduating from Carmel.

The series continues with three more alumni speakers during the 2016Jim Magna ’04 17 school year.

Jamie Harrington recently retired from coaching football after doing so at the high school and collegiate levels for 45 years. Harrington was head football coach at Loyola Academy, Stagg High School, and Deerfield High School.

He was elected to the Deerfield High School Football Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Illinois Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2013. His career included a state championship at Deerfield High School in 1975 and a prep bowl championship at Loyola Academy in 1986. Harrington resides in Green Oaks, Ill.

After working for the Archdiocese of Chicago as the coordinator of ReCiL – Reclaiming Christ in Life Young Adult Ministry, Timone Davis launched PEACE centered WHOLENESS with her husband Orlando, where they are blending clinical counseling and spiritual companioning. In addition to running a business, Davis is an assistant professor in the Institute of Pastoral Studies at Loyola University Chicago. In her spare time, she serves as the treasurer of the Black Catholic Theological Symposium.

Joseph Fusz joined the Law Offices of David R. Del Re, P.C. in Waukegan, Ill. as an Associate Attorney. Fusz will concentrate his legal practice on criminal defense and civil litigation.

2000

In January, Ramsey Lama was appointed to serve as district court judge in the 11th Judicial District in the state of Colorado. Lama formally was the solo practitioner at the Law Office of Ramsey Lama, LLC focusing on criminal defense. Prior to owning his own firm, Lama worked for the Office of the Colorado State Public Defender in its Salida and Grand Junction Offices. Lama earned his undergraduate degree from Aquinas College in 2004 and his Juris Doctor from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 2008.

Capt. Tom Morrow, commander of Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, is the recipient of the 2016 Leftwich Trophy. The Leftwich Trophy is awarded annually to a Marine captain in the ground combat arms community who “clearly and dramatically demonstrate[s] the ideals of courage, resourcefulness, perseverance, and concern for the well-being of our Corps and his enlisted Marines,” according to the award criteria. It’s named for Navy Cross and Silver Star recipient Lt. Col. William G. Leftwich Jr., who was killed in a 1970 helicopter crash while overseeing an emergency air extraction of a reconnaissance team in Vietnam.

In April, Kevin Devitt returned to the University of AlabamaBirmingham following one season as an assistant coach at Wright State, helping the Raiders to a school-record 13 Horizon League victories and an appearance in the Horizon League Tournament championship game. A 2010 graduate of DePaul University, Devitt spent three years at UAB, including one season as the director of operations after previously serving as the administrative assistant and associate director of operations during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. Devitt also coached three seasons at Roosevelt

University in Chicago, two seasons at Richards High School, and one year at Lindblom High School.

His coaching resume also includes working the Reebok Breakout Challenge in Philadelphia, Pa., as well as the Jim Whitesell Basketball Camp and the Dwyane Wade Skills Academy.

Kaye Foley, a producer at Yahoo News, received a Rising Star Award! Cynopsis Media’s Rising Star Awards celebrate young professionals whose smarts, ingenuity, and drive are an inspiration in the workplace.

Winning a Rising Star Award also serves as recognition of a professional’s leadership skills. The 2016 Rising Stars represent media companies from ABC, Discovery, NBC, People Magazine, and Nickelodeon.

Lauren Feely was named Bowling Green State University’s Junior Scholar Athlete of the Year at the 2016 Ziggy Awards - BGSU’s Athletic Honors Night. The former Carmel Catholic gymnast competed as an all-arounder in every one of the Falcons’ meets this past season, helping the team to their first appearance at the NCAA regionals for 25 years.

Feely won the all-around title at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) meet at Ball State in March and placed sixth at the Tuscaloosa regional meet in April.

She was named to the second team all-MAC and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. An inclusive early childhood education major, with a 4.0 GPA, Feely was also named academic all-MAC and a MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete, both for the second straight year.

Trenton Jansen recently completed a paid summer internship at Pfizer Inc. in Lake Forest, Ill. Pfizer is an American global pharmaceutical corporation, which is among the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. Jansen interned in the Government Reporting and

Kotryna Jukneviciute, current Georgetown University student, was one of four participants representing the United States at the Y20 summit in China over the summer. The Y20 (short for “Youth 20”) encourages the participants from around the world to pay close attention to the most pressing global problems, to exchange, collide, fully negotiate, and finally reach consensus as future leaders.

Jacqueline Timmins received the Outdoor Inspiration Award at the Outdoor Industry Association’s winter expo held in Salt Lake City, Utah, in January. The Outdoor Inspiration Awards celebrate those whose efforts go above and beyond in inspiring others in their communities to enjoy, participate in, and support outdoor activities. Timmins is a biomedical engineering student at the University of Iowa.

Kaitlyn Edicola is currently attending New York University.

During her freshman year, Edicola was recognized as a student who could make a difference at NYU. She won the The Josh Goldfaden Award for expository writing and was hired as an NYU Ambassador out of over 700 applications. This summer, Edicola was offered an internship in New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office including attending and working at the National Democratic Convention in Philadelphia, and was recently asked to co-chair the housing committee for the New York State Democratic Party at the convention. Edicola is also the co-captain of NYU’s dance team for the 2016-17 school year. She is majoring in politics at NYU.

Brienne Minor set a new win record as a freshman at Michigan and made her mark in several other categories. Minor was named All-American in both singles and doubles, which was only done one other time Michigan history.

This summer, she was one of eight tennis standouts playing on the 2016 National Collegiate Women’s Team.
