February 2015 Dear Friends of the Carmel Catholic Community, I am privileged to welcome you to the 41st annual Street Scenes celebration.

Street Scenes is a wonderful event at Carmel because of the way it brings all the members of our community together throughout the year in preparation for this weekend. While the actual Street Scenes event takes place over the course of three days, it is the culmination of over 1,000 volunteers, all of our students, our faculty, and staff working throughout the year. Street Scenes is indeed a celebration of the extended Carmel community – parents, students, faculty, alumni, and friends participate in the planning and organization, the decorations, the construction, the entertainment, the food and beverages, the set up, and the clean up. Each group shares their time, talent and hard work to make Street Scenes happen.

Over the years, people have come and gone, themes have changed, show rooms and food service have been expanded, but one thing has been constant: the good feeling and fun of people working together, the strong sense of celebration. Street Scenes is an example of community at its best.

It is my hope that you will enjoy yourselves during this celebration. I also hope that you are able to share in the warmth of the Carmel community while you are here.

Planning Underway For The 41st Annual Street Scenes Celebration “Street Scenes Celebrates Superheroes” The 41th Annual Street Scenes – Carmel Catholic High School’s largest annual fundraiser – is Lake County’s most significant community builder and the biggest party around! This fun-filled event, to be held February 13-14, 2015, has become a Lake County tradition since it began in 1974. The theme for 2015 is “Street Scenes Celebrates Superheroes”. This theme is certain to provide the inspiration for many wonderful interpretations by the always popular student show and other entertainers throughout the building.

At Street Scenes there will be food, comedy, nightclub, casino, and music venues as the hallmarks of the event. Street Scenes provides the perfect place to get out of the winter cold and reconnect with family and friends while enjoying great entertainment and delicious food.

In addition to being an exciting and entertaining event, the funds generated are a significant part of the school’s annual operating budget.

Carmel Catholic students, as well as 7th and 8th grade students from Catholic elementary schools and those from other schools who have taken the placement test are welcome to attend Street Scenes during “Student Night” on Thursday, February 12, 2015.

The Street Scenes Ad Drive takes place each fall and this is the first important step in kicking off the Street Scenes fundraiser. This year’s Ad Drive will begin on August 29th. Once complete, the Street Scenes Ad Directory rivals the Yellow Pages as a comprehensive directory of Lake County vendors. An online version of the book is also accessible on the internet. Complete with its alphabetical index of advertisers by major category of services or product, the Street Scenes Ad Directory serves as a handy reference for everyone who uses it. It is a welcome gift to all who attend the event and will be distributed to all advertisers in late January, 2015.

There are many people who work to make this annual enterprise a success. The students take the lead on the Ad Drive by contacting and collecting ads. Carmel Catholic parents and friends can support Street Scenes as entertainers, artists, bartenders, stage crews, electricians, shortorder cooks, ticket sellers, printers, seamstresses, set-up and take-down crews and so much more! Each year Street Scenes’ dedicated volunteers work together to make the event successful. This is an outstanding community builder!

Please help us make the 41st Annual Street Scenes one of the best and biggest ever! We count on you and are always grateful for your support!

Along the way they entertained as dancer and singer, served three years as General Chair Couple ('86, '87, '88), annually were interviewed by Waukegan's radio station regarding Street Scenes, and chaired several entertainment rooms. For several years Joanne chaired Publicity and she was especially instrumental in the old "Press Day" when the media came to do stories about Street Scenes. Joanne implemented using balloons for decorations, especially in the Casino, many years ago and continued working in that capacity through Street Scenes #40 last year. George's group Chicago Gear and Transmission Co entertained from 1979 through 2003 and opened for the Student Show for many, many years. Joanne and George were deeply involved in the very early days of Street Scenes developing and implementing many of the things we routinely do today.
