What is the Summer Reading Adventure?

Readers of all ages can earn rewards as they read throughout the summer. Enjoy special events, performances and educational programs all summer long while earning rewards for reading. This year’s theme, “Level Up at Your Library,” encourages participants to explore new skills, discover hobbies and find great books at all three library locations.

How do I participate?

• Register – Visit carlsbadlibrary.beanstack.org or use the Beanstack Tracker app for Android or iOS. Log into your account or create one if you are a new reader.

• Record – Readers of all ages record their reading minutes in Beanstack.

• Report – Children 12 and under can receive a free book by sharing their recent reads with a friendly volunteer in the children’s area of each library location.

• Rewards – Rewards will be available for pickup starting June 9 at all library locations. Minutes

Keep reading! For every hour read after 600 minutes, choose a treasure chest item while supplies last.

These special events are best suited for families unless otherwise noted. All events are free and open to the public. Space is limited at these events; please arrive early.

Fan-favorite Arty Loon returns with his jaw-dropping comedy magic show.

Anime Your Way

For ages nine and up Wednesday, July 16, 5 p.m.

Level up your art skills! Learn to draw a new and original anime character from former “Simpsons” artist Carlos Nieto.

Dig Dug Puppets 

Monday, July 21, 3 p.m.

Enjoy a lively puppet show with some very colorful—and funny— prehistoric creatures.

Teddy Bear Picnic

Preschool Storytime

Wednesday, July 23, 10:30 a.m.

Bring your stuffed animal and join us on the front lawn for snacks, crafts, stories and songs at our annual Teddy Bear Picnic! If your stuffed animal is brave enough it’s welcome to stay at the library for our Stuffy Sleepover!

Level up your dance moves as you rock along with the famous Ralph from Ralph’s World.

Come hear author Samantha Mills discuss her book “The Wings Upon Her Back” and level up your reading!

Free tickets for performances at the Dove Library will be available one week in advance of each event.

Weekly Chess Meet-Up

Saturdays, 2 – 4 p.m.

Library Learning Center

Join us for our Community Chess Meet-Up, open to all ages and skill levels. Chess boards and pieces are provided, and we also have five chess sets available to checkout to practice and play at home!

Saturdays, 2 – 3 p.m.

Ages 5 & up

Come build what you’ve been reading and share with a Summer Reading Adventure volunteer.

Bubble Bliss

Wednesdays and Saturdays, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane (Children’s Garden)

All ages and families are welcome. Come and enjoy a state of bubble happiness at the Dove Library. Throughout the summer, families are invited to blissfully play with bubbles in the Children’s garden.

This event is debuting over the summer!

Tween Game Time

Mondays: June 9, July 14 and Aug.11, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.

For tweens, ages 9 – 12 or grades 3rd – 6th: Starting on June 9, join us on the second Monday of the month for games and snacks! Bring your friends or make new ones.

EXPLORATION HUB EVENTS

Level up in the Exploration HUB at the Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane this summer to learn all about the 3D printer, the silhouette cameo and basic coding and robotic skills.
