Composershaveusedtheword“Alleluia” forcenturiestodenoatetheexclamationof praise or joy in both sacred and secular settings.

This setting composed by Carlos Lalonde emphasizes the feelings of energetic jubilation into an accessible piece based on a two-bar motif that seamlessly is imitatedbetweenallofthechorusparts.

A beautifully lyrical section is wedged between the outer jubilant sections that reaches a purely blissful climax before returningtothebeginningmaterial.

About the Composer

Carlos Lalonde (b. 2001)is a rising Filipino-Americancomposerofinstrumental andchoralconcertmusic.

Theyhavebeencommissionedbynumerous performing groups and institutions for their electrifying and powerful music. Past accolades include Cantus’ Young & Emerging Composer Competition, the Greater Twin Cities Youth Orchestras (GTCYS) Call for Scores Competition, and served as the 2022 Composer-In-Residence of the Alabama Orchestra Association (AOA). Their concert music has been performed internationally and has received recognition from organizations, like UNESCO.

They are a registered member of ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) and the American Composers Forum as an active composer in the Midwest. Their educational music catalog is published by Carl Fischer Music. They are currently pursuing a master’s degree in Music Composition at the College ofMusicatMichiganStateUniversity.

Singers are tasked with performing frequent changing meters, syncopated rhythms, and kaleidoscopic modulations betweendistantkeycenters.

All is worthwhile, however, as singers and audience members alike can reflect on the po i gn a n tl y j oy f ul a nd exuberant moments in their lives that suits the opening to a concert program perfectly.

This setting of Alleluia is intuitive and approachable for beginning to intermediate-level singers who are ready to embrace a heightened level of unwavering,unapologeticexcitement.
