As there are a myriad of musical works on the idea of a transcendent or
transforming journey, it was quite difficult to create a composition that was engaging and inventive. Upon writing this work in the span of a few short days, the ideas of adventure, longing, aspirations, and discovery became the "journey" throughout this piece. Starting from a simple woodwind/string melody in the beginning, the piece personifies the journey of an old seafarer, someone who is out at sea for several months at a time; rarely having time to see their family, but searching for something beyond the sea. The fanfare-like elements and grandeur, coupled with the timid and reserved moments develop the a metaphorical journey frombeginning to end.
